When a werewolf offers you a cupcake, do you take it?

Gage Dubois has always been a werewolf to avoid. Temperamental and territorial. But now he’s just being a pain-in-my-patootie.

It's a dangerous time for us, but I can’t fully involve myself in the plans and work to keep the Otherside out, not yet. I’ve got my own mission, thanks to a fairy that left his mark on me.

My familial background is shrouded in shadows - literally, because supposedly that’s where I’m from - the Shadow realm. But how to get there, and get answers?

Unlock my powers, of course. And where those unleashed powers take me? Well, I’ll just have to strap in for the ride.

A few years ago Sherry had an epiphany. Life is what you make it- and she was ready to make it HERS. So, she grabbed the bull by the horns and quit her job at a tech startup to pursue personal passions and adventure dreams. She successfully taught herself graphic design. She hiked 558 miles through southern California on the Pacific Crest Trail. She wrote some romances and self-published them.

Goodreads allows an author to review their own books, and...well, I always do. It’s a place I can reflect on the writing journey of each book, share my author’s perspective with the readers.

Obviously, Cat and Gage began as secondary characters in Guarding Justice. There, one interaction between them began it all:

Gage’s wide form comes through the dining room from the kitchen. As if he felt the charge of magic in the air too.
“What’s all this?” He says over Cat’s shoulder.
“Just a little trip planning.” She hands me the blue passport.
“Trip?” Gage’s eyebrows shoot up to the top of his head.
“Yes, if you must know. We are going to Scotland.”
“When?” Gage’s questions are firing with all the sweetness of a rotting apple.
“Tuesday, if you must know.” Cat’s calm voice is a shiny veneer over disdain.
Looking up from Cat’s handy-work, I catch Gage and Cat in a tense showdown.
Gage’s forehead vein is popping much like the time he tried to teach me how to make souffles and mine kept deflating, and there’s a perceptible flush to his cheeks.
“...Or are we prisoners here?” Cat inquires with a syrupy tone.

I knew then I’d be exploring the hate to love relationship...between a witch and a werewolf. Of course that meant I needed to find the reason for the hostility between the two. Thus unfolded time-travel, a quest, and a mis-fired memory spell. And what’s more? A surprise connection at the very end. One plot twist that hit me just two days before I finished!

It’s all so awesome - I won't give away all the details here - so really the only way you can experience it is to read it for yourself! But let me just say, mysterious characters, action, steamy scenes, all my signature themes are there!

When Cat learns that not only is her mother (who she can’t recall ever knowing) alive, but she and her people need her help, she knows she needs to get back to the Shadow Realm. The path back doesn’t seem easy, because she doesn’t even know how to get there or how to navigate once she is there. She must find the map, no matter what it takes.

I loved getting back into the Otherside Chronicles, and was very excited to see Gage again. I was surprised by the turn of events, and while everything made sense and the sex scenes were as saucy as usual, I didn’t love them.

The contexts for both of them were so wrong. The first one I can shake off, because it was very consensual, but the second one seemed very rapey to me, even though she said in the end she didn’t mind too much because it was ‘fair’ and she got two orgasms. I don’t know, it still feels wrong.

The sex aside, I really enjoyed the journey of this book. Cat was an interesting character that we’ve seen in the other books, but never to this degree. Enemies to lovers is always fun, and I look forward to seeing more of their relationship (as long as it’s consensual).

Awesome

Cats story was awesome and added so much more to the coming battle with the otherside. The story between Car and Gage leaves another part of the puzzle put into place. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book.
