Silverjack McCall: Texas Legend: Who Killed Plug Ugly? A Fifth Texan Western Adventure

Rate this book
A tremendous fifth adventure from Lee Pierce! After the ambush at Aspen Meadows, Silverjack McCall decided to ride back to Texas. His half-brother, Clay Thornton, was a Texas Ranger, and Silverjack wanted to try his hand at being a Ranger. This is the story of Silverjack’s first duty as a Ranger. Pharaoh Smith is a seasoned veteran Texas Ranger who becomes Silverjack’s mentor. Ranger Smith’s younger brother is murdered. The Rangers send Smith and McCall to investigate. The killing has local lawman, Eustace Perkins, an old friend of Pharaoh Smith, stumped. The two Rangers ride into town separately—Pharaoh Smith as a Texas Ranger, Silverjack McCall undercover as a drifter. Plug Ugly was liked by almost everyone, and there seem to be no indications as to who the killer is or their motive. Ranger Smith searches for clues but continually hits a brick wall. The town’s citizens are reluctant to talk to the Ranger. Ranger McCall, working undercover, finds some of the locals more willing to talk to someone other than a lawman. The plot takes a circuitous route before the murder is solved. Along the way, there are plenty of fights and smoking six-guns to hold the interest of the most action-hungry readers.
