Leading the Whole Teacher: Strategies for Supporting the Educators in Your School
What Can Leaders Do for Teachers?
Amid the growing teacher shortage crisis and the extra demands placed on teachers during the COVID-19 pandemic, if there’s anything we’ve learned as educational leaders, it’s that some things are out of our control. But we do have agency in ensuring that our teachers are well supported and that we’re meeting their needs, and when teachers are nurtured, they are better able to nurture their students. I was researching mentor programs for new teachers & came across Allyson Apsey’s structure. This book was referenced in the documents I was looking over, so I decided it might be worth reading. It was a pretty quick read full of great ideas and advice. There were so many take aways from her book. She reflects a lot and also challenges the reader to do the same. While I’m not a principal or in administration (the target audience for this book), there were so many things to glean here. There’s no perfect school, but the structure and guidance offered here are a great reference for school leaders and teachers to look to.
