Are you tired of boring Chinese textbooks?

The kind that start off with "Hello, my name is ...".
We are. Definitely. We know that learning Chinese is hard work - but why can't hard work be fun?

That's why we've created Oh, Jerry! - a Chinese (Mandarin) textbook based on a coherent story instead of dull dialogues. It starts very simply, but gets more and more intriguing. Can't stop reading? Well then - you will have to learn Chinese!

This is the story:

When Chinese teacher Qi enters his classroom, he finds a horse among his students - Jerry. Jerry is amazing. Despite being a horse, he speaks and writes fluently in Chinese, Japanese, German, and other languages. He also cooks, cleans, listens to music (and to the rain), is romantic, sensitive, gentle ... Soon enough, the teacher and Jerry move in together and become roommates. Qi thinks about Jerry day and night. But Jerry has a mysterious past, which could potentially complicate things.

Oh, Jerry! is a parody on soap operas, a parody on fantasy novels, a parody on Chinese textbooks - but actually, it is a Chinese textbook.

Relevant vocabulary

We have carefully selected the most frequently used words in the Chinese language and made sure that the story is primarily made up of those words. Separate texts and exercises focus on conversational topics that will prepare you for real-life situations.

Simple explanations with visual aids

Is Chinese grammar a headache? It won't be with Oh, Jerry! Uncover the structure of the Chinese language with informal yet comprehensive explanations and plenty of easy-to-remember examples.

But writing Chinese is a nightmare!

Only if you learn Chinese characters without understanding their meaning - otherwise it's actually quite beautiful! Therefore we've included as much information as possible as to the background of each character. That way it will be much easier for you to understand the patterns of Chinese characters. We've also included video instructions on how to write the characters.

Amazing textbook!
The story is funny and entertaining, which helps you remember the grammar and vocabulary a lot easier. The content is really balanced, you get to practice everything from reading and writing to listening and pronunciation. At the beginning you even get a QR code that sends you to an archive of helpful videos concerning pronunciation and explanations of tones.
The new vocabulary and characters are explained in a logical order, so it's easy to remember and make the connections. The story is written in 3 ways : Mandarin, the literal translation in English and the actual translation in English.
Overall I feel like this textbook is the perfect tool for anyone who wants to learn Chinese effectively and read something fun at the same time :)
