In war, anything goes.

My mission was simple. Infiltrate Clan Disaris, eliminate their queen, and survive long enough to get the hell out of there and back home to Clan Letos.

The infiltration part was easy. I’d been mistaken for a human all my life. Familiars are very close to their vampire masters, and the perfect disguise for an assassin. But before I could complete my mission, a chance encounter changed everything.

Jasper Cane. The tall, dark, and insanely hot vampire from Clan Shaye. A rival assassin on a similar mission.

Now it’s a race to see who can get to the queen first. I could do it if I stop thinking about how sexy he is.

I’ll have to kill him if he gets in my way. If he doesn’t kill me first.

I guess it’s true what they say.

All’s fair in love and war.

Marked by Shadows is one of sixteen books within the Games of the Underworld shared universe. It is a standalone dark romance novel. It can be read independently, but to get the full story, it is highly recommended to read all of the books within the series.

That intro.

The author will take you further into the world of Games of the Underworld. Where in book one we find the story through the eyes of the humans and the human resistance, this book will bring you the world through the eyes of the vampires and the varying clans.

The sheer amount of information slowly getting trickled to the readers will leave you curious for more. Assassinations and missions behind the missions, we come to find two very interesting characters on the same path from different sides.

And that villain?

You will be thoroughly entertained with this fast paced read that is very reminiscent of watching a movie, Hollywood style.

Who said male authors couldn't write romance? Some of these spicy scenes will leave you wanting...

*clears throat*

Four clans of vampires are fighting for world domination. There is also a human resistance, but ever since the virus spread on earth the humans have been ever dwindling.

Jasper is an assassin and part of the Shaye clan, their numbers are also dwindling. Their leader Duradel is a ruthless killer and doesn't care who he murders, including his own men. Jasper is also a Variant on top of being a vampire, meaning he can copy any person's appearance. Great power, but also comes at the cost of very painful transformation. The person who he is sent to assassinate tries to convince Jasper to come to his side and assassinate another clan leader. Jasper's would be target becomes his boss when Aurelia walks into his line of vision. Jasper hasn't felt this type of pull since his lover and partner died years ago, and he'll go to great lengths to pursue Aurelia, who is equally attracted to Jasper. Aurelia assists in this mission, posing as a human because she is a day walking vamp they infiltrate the target's palace.

I enjoyed the story very much, and the book put me in mind of Vampire Game of Thrones. This is my second story in the Underworld, and I do want to read more. I would like to check into more by this author as well.

One thing that pulled me out of the story was describing physical appearances instead of letting us look through the character's eyes--- maybe a few characters would think of terms of eye color, hair color, and build, but every character did that.

Not just a romance.

I get so much out of this reading it as a post-apocalyptic war drama with spicy romance elements rather than simply a romance with some plot. There's deeper meanings and secrets at play and I find myself immensely enjoying reading into every little nuance whether they may be plot important hints, simply delicious little pleasures or elaborate conspiracy theories I've made a unicorn out of in my own mind, I don't care what anyone says it's fun!!
We get to see more into the different clans, who leads them and the characteristics their bloodlines develop. While secret members reveal themselves and past characters get mention, we're also introduced to a very colourful character with his chaotic ways and a signature kill style, who is very verbally expressive 🥵
👁👄👁
Will he be an ally to our main heroes, Jasper and Aurelia? After all, while they share the same goal... it's all a means to an end... right? And each has their heart in the right place... or so they each think.

In conclusion tho I implore you, there will be so much more fun to have out of these books if you ingest the others also! I hope you decide to read them and enjoy them as much as I have 🖤

An interesting read

This was my first time reading a book by Lawrence hall and it was super interesting. I mean this was a pretty unique take on paranormal romance stories, where there is fighting, plot and a little bit of romance. And this was a fresh breath of air.

Told from multiple perspectives, this book is a fast read and has multiple twists and turns.

My only problem with this book is that it was told that as a reader I could read it as a standalone but there were aspects of it that i didn't really get. So, for anyone planning to read this one, my recommendation would be to start from the first book in this series.

After the disclaimer I was fully ready to feel guilty about loving it. After finishing, my conscience is clear. I was promised characters who went dark and misbehaved, and the only thing I love more than morally grey characters are unrepentantly evil characters who are well written. What was delivered was repetitive fight scenes, characters with no depth, development or chemistry, and scenes that TRIED really hard to be spicy and taboo but came across as male glorification of the most basic and unsatisfying minimum. The story idea itself has potential, but unfortunately the execution missed the mark.

Where to begin?
This story sinks its fangs into the reader and takes them deeper into the Games of the Underworld. With each character we get another piece of what this world they live in is like.
I loved the detail of the scenes as they vividly painted a picture of the world in my mind. The banter between the characters was one of the things I enjoyed the most. That mixed with the action scenes and the twists and turns, and I couldn't put the book down.
The balance of humor and serious, light and dark made this book a quick and enjoyable read. What team are you? I am team on the fence. You'll have to read the book for yourself to determine that.

Intrigue Galore!!

Ok!! This book took you down the rabbit hole and then bobbed and weaved through many plot points and introduced and killed so many people…. So it was great to be back in this world. Got some bloody times being in the Vampire clans. There was a lot of jumping between different characters and at first I got a little lost but stay the course because it makes sense and it gets better!!! This book feels like it gives you more male perspective versus female, introduces some serious crazy (Ian), check your triggers because there are many, lots of gore, lots of murder and mayhem (yes!!), some smexy times, and get ready for a wild ride!

This book in the underworld saga or series is from the POV of the vampires and gives us a little more insight in to the different clans. Assassins trying to take out the queen of the all female clan. Sending men to do that work even if they are the best of the best maybe not the greatest idea.
OK cutting it short I loved the characters and the violent scenes as well as the more "romantic" ones. Looking forward to the next one to learn more about this fantastic dysantopic frightening world. Highly recommended and even though I'm on the resistance side all I can say is IAN is my new hero.

So here is the thing, I am really not a huge fan when it comes to PNR but this series kind of got me to like it. This one is dark and I don’t like one thing that’s going to happen (not gonna spoil here) but it’s a great fast read. Next to some hot scenes you’ll have some fun moments. I still get a bit confused by the clans but getting there. And surprisingly I can’t wait for the next book.
And in my opinion it’s highly recommended to start with the prequel.
Oh and I am completely team Jasper

Holy smokes! This full novel was not like anything I’ve come to expect from this author. He definitely flexed for this book. So much fighting and blood! And just when I thought I might have it all figured out and know where the story was going, a big twist came and I was wrong. So wrong. All I can say it buckle up and enjoy the ride. It’s thrilling with lots of unexpected turns.
