Giovanni #3

Virtuous

Rate this book
The heart is not commanded.

Giovanni is not sleeping, and he refuses to eat, as if trying to follow his beloved Master to the grave. Silvio is similarly lost as to how to care for his broken-hearted boy, and always there is the haunting sense that his brother is watching, reminding him in subtle ways that he is not adequately providing for his precious schiavo.

But Silvio is determined to be strong. To be the Dominant Giovanni needs and the man he desires in this season of grieving. Together they will forge a new path with virtues unique to their budding dynamic. But even with the discipline, rules, and structure Silvio provides, there is something more Giovanni craves…

Pain.

When Giovanni goes to dangerous lengths to reach his Master, all of Silvio’s hard work threatens to unravel. Silvio must figure out a way to soothe his boy, or else Giovanni will succeed in his risky endeavor and be lost to him forever.

VIRTUOUS, the third installment of the GIOVANNI trilogy, is an introspective MM romance about grief and healing. Trigger warnings for addiction, self-harm, and mentions of past sexual trauma. This book is meant for entertainment purposes only, not as a guide to safe, sane, and consensual BDSM practices.

I nibble at his ear, then say to him, "Reach between your legs and tell me if you're still gaping."
He pushes aside the flimsy thong to probe between his cheeks.
"Yes, Sir, still wet and wide open."
"You going to take my cock again?"
"I want to."

honestly loved these characters to death but giovanni's story being stretched to three books was just so unnecessary. book 1 (which is actually book 2) is this massive landslide win for me when it comes to bdsm stories. and unfortunately it overshadowed the succeeding books. not my great read but i'm happy and now content to finally wrap up gio's story. the sex was hot though so i'm not full blown complaining lmao.

"You are failing him".
This book hurt my heart
I have no words to express how much Laura Lascarso absolutely SLAYS with her writing style and descriptive language.

Her prose is compelling and pretty, maybe a bit purple at times but I eat that up from a few authors and she's one of them.

This trilogy has been such a journey and we've finally reached the ending. Giovanni is happy with his Sir, is healing after the death of his Master, although the process is slow and ongoing; as it should be.

Laura describes this as Angst-Lite. I'm here to say: LIES

Lordt I started crying in chapter one and cried everytime Master was mentioned. And I don't cry easily. That should tell you something.

I completely believe that Valentin was still with Giovanni someway or another. He loved him too much to completely leave him. Valentin's spirit seems to haunt not only Gio but Silvio too, because Silvio had been failing Gio and Valentin was having none of it.

The book is healing for both these men. Gio has to eventually come to terms with Valentin's death and Silvio needs to confront the fact that his brother not only died but left him his Schiavo.

Through multiple trials and errors, discussion and intimacy, Silvio and Gio find their footing and I was so happy to read their HEA.

You may say that Valentin was too present in this book. For me, his presence was crucial in all ways. Gio and Valentin are togther because of him and they stayed together after his death thanks to him.
Gio will always be Master's Schiavo, before he will ever be Silvio's boy.

Steam: Extra steamy à la panties went poof.

HEA: yes! Thank goodness.

Now I need Laura to write me a scene where Gio and Valentin reunite in the afterlife.

K Thanks bye.

“You are failing him” My heart cracked.

Giovanni is lost in grief, he doesn’t eat, lost too much weight, and Silvio desperately wants to take the reins, but can’t seem to find a way in.
Silvio is not Valentin, who was strict to the extreme and knew exactly what Giovanni craved, needed.
Silvio tries tentatively to find connection. He wants it in his way, he’s not Master as his brother was, he’s Sir.

Master is gone but oh so present.

Silvio could get simply jealous because Valentin is always on Giovanni’s mind, but he doesn’t. Giovanni’s welfare is what is important, only Giovanni!
Where Silvio easily could act like Valentin, he stays true to himself and tries hard to be what Giovanni needs but in his own way. That’s just simpler said than done, it’s immensely complicated.

The grief and loss are huge and palpable, when you’re home and lose the ruler of your life, it’s devastating, that’s how it felt.
When you own a precious vulnerable creature like Giovanni, it’s a huge responsibility.
You could say Giovanni is a hand full, two hands, a lifetime long.

“ I want to earn my right to dominate you, not simply inherit it.”

The question is will Giovanni give his heart as he gave his body.

Grief comes in any form, at the most unexpected moments, that was super emotional. I cried and cried, at those special moments you’re own grief is presenting.

What a journey! The story was close to my heart, it was precious, the whole series was. Silvio and Giovanni took my breath away, the dedication was out of this world, so much unconditional love. Valentin deserved to be present, it was everything!
The writing was melodic music to my ears, sometimes it felt even sacred, so intimate, I have no words to describe it, please understand it is special, bittersweet but so special.

Yes, I’m content. Not happy, I never wanted this series to end, them to leave, and that’s grief too.

ALL the stars and more!

Before Reading: I've been scared for this book to come out because no one, NO ONE can replace Valentin and yet here I am about to see how that goes. I'm like Gio, it's a hard limit. And we are still living grief in our household too, so how will I handle this book? How?! I don't know if green.... *Conundrum

After Reading: So much "green." This is such a fitting finale for Valentin, Gio and Silvio, or Master, schiavo and Sir. Lascarso lovingly crafted this series off the back of what was originally a standalone book, Master's Schiavo which actually ended up serving as book #2 in the Giovanni trilogy. I didn't think I needed a trilogy but I was happily proved wrong after each release.

I'm going to grieve this world coming to an end, these characters I love so, so much.

A beautiful end to the series. Giovanni is such a hauntingly compelling character, and I’m glad to see him find fulfillment with Silvio as he processes his grief over losing Master.

I Love it.
I feared this will be the same as book 2 but it’s different in its own unique way.

I admire Silvio's and Giovanni's growth ❤️

This is about grief, healing, codependency, and well written BDSM.

A beautifully written conclusion to a one-of-a-kind series!

Virtuous is not a stand-alone and there will be series spoilers in this review.

I’m emotional writing this review - that’s how great this series is! It has taken me through the emotional wringer and I’ve loved every minute. This book in particular is an exploration of grief in the wake of Valentin’s death. Laura does an incredible job showing how differently Gio and Silvio process their grief. Where Gio has given himself the space to acknowledge his grief and gradually come to terms with life after Valentin, Silvio hides his grief so deep inside that he doesn’t realize how wounded he is by the loss of his brother, who was more like a father figure. And the way that his grief finally catches up to him is really interesting! It’s a flip on what you might have expected from these guys, but it makes sense when you think about how involved Gio was in Valentin’s end-of-life care, and so has had more time to process things.

It was hard reading about Gio and Silvio without Valentin around! Especially since part of Gio’s grief journey further highlights just how deep his connection was with his Master. But I absolutely loved the dynamic between Gio and Silvio. They have a very different relationship. Their love and affection isn’t nearly as deep as Gio and Valentin’s, but it’s still really beautiful, and plenty filthy. The story is told from Silvio’s POV, so we finally get to know him better and understand just how much he cares about Gio. He really pushes Gio outside of his comfort zone and challenges him to stop letting his past dictate his life. And Gio is instrumental in helping Silvio navigate a world without the support and guidance from his brother.

Master’s Schiavo was my favorite book of 2021 and this series will stay with me forever. It’s one of the most intense love stories I’ve ever read! I’m glad that Laura decided to write Gio and Valentin’s story, and then gave us more. The ending of this series is so satisfying and I’m left thinking of Gio and Valentin living a long and happy life together.

I’m updating my review to include the audio version. I really enjoyed the audio. I feel when the narrator is able to make you feel you are actually listening to the characters the emotion is deeper than reading the book. Daniel Carter brought these characters to life. I also picked up a few things that made me a lot happier at the end of the book. Giovanni made me feel that he had reached a place of being okay. He felt that the master had saved his life but Silvio was teaching him to live. This series is one I will reread even with the tears it brings.
My original book review:
I wanted more since after Giovanni and Master’s Schiavo. I felt the story was unfinished. I’m not sure I wanted nor expected this story, yet it completes the story at this point in their lives. Maybe it is just me but I’m really depressed and now hate to let go of Giovanni.
After Valentin’s death Giovanni is lost. He wants to be with Valentin and appears to be trying to do just that. Not eating nor sleeping and beyond missing Valentin. They were perfect together and with Valentin’s death, Giovanni is heartbroken.
Silvio is supposed to be taking care of Giovanni yet he has no idea what to do. He can’t even grieve himself for feeling guilty of failing Valentin’s wishes that he care for Giovanni. He is nothing like Valentin and cannot provide the same structure Giovanni needs.
This story deals with how these two men deal with Valentin’s death and how they try to put their lives back together. I felt for Silvio because I believe he will never feel confident that he has Giovanni’s heart. The relationship between them will always have Valentin’s strong personality in their thoughts. Yes, they may go on but….
It must have been heart breaking for the author to write this part of the story. It is original and true to life as events would probably play out. It is also why I feel this author is exceptional and is on my short list of authors to follow.

Sir side of the story

The conclusion of this terribly beautiful, triggering, heartbreaking, crazy romantic and obscenely hot story is told from Sir/Silvio perspective, which I really appreciate cause it gives us the chance to get to know this passionate, daring, loving young man and watch him grow and evolve while facing the saddest and the happiest moments of his life and the challenges that it brings. The sentiments/feelings that the relationship with Giovanni and his later older brother Valentin bring up are very realistic and relatable.
An amazing series.

Thank you so much to GRR for this audiobook!
I loved the first two audiobooks and loved this one just as much. Silvio is such an amazing character and I loved being in his head. Daniel Carter does an excellent job of getting you to feel both men’s emotions. This book is very much a catharsis for Silvio and Gio, and it was done beautifully.

Writing this review is bittersweet, as I loved the ending but I’m so sad to say goodbye to the beautiful Giovanni! I have loved him since we met him, but I’m glad to see him one last time.
Gio and his Sir, Silvio, are both reeling from a great loss, while also trying to find their way into their new reality. Gio is having trouble finding his ground, while Silvio is struggling with his ability to give Giovanni what he needs. Both are struggling with the fact that without Valentin, they’ve both lost guidance and support.
Both men have very complicated feelings about Valentin as well. While Gio oscillates between grief, helplessness, and anger, Silvio is dealing with jealousy and feelings of inadequacy.
This is a story about so much: grief in all
It’s stages, learning that you can’t always be everything a person needs, and that every relationship is different and can’t be forced into a mold. Giovanni has been healing for a long time and still has a ways to go, and Silvio must find ways to support and strengthen Gio.
This entire series is incredibly beautiful and emotional. I can’t recommend it highly enough.
Addio e stai bene Giovanni. Grazie mille.

A Heartfelt & Compelling Series Finale! Great Story & Listen🎧📚🎧

Virtuous
Giovanni Book 3
By: Laura Lascarso
Narrated by: Daniel Carter

Laura Lascarso takes her readers and audiobook listeners on an emotional rollercoaster ride for the finale to Giovanni’s story, though I was not ready to say goodbye and hope to hear more from these characters again in the future. The author does an amazing job bringing you into her story, placing you alongside her characters and making you feel what they are going thru, their pain, despair and anguish. Losing his master devastated Gio, and Silvio is trying to remain strong for him, but is at a loss at what to do. He knows he can not fill Valentin’s shoes, but his brother wanted him to become a master to Gio, and he will have to do it in his own way. Despite suffering from his own grief, Silvio is doing the best he can, and he continues to learn things about Gio, his needs, his likes and even past events he was not aware of. And since he is as vulnerable as ever, he needs to get a handle on it all, before Gio relapses and falls into some old habits. This beautifully written and plotted story tugs on your heartstrings like no other and is a story that will stay with you for a very long time. Was it Silvio’s patience and perseverance that saved Gio, or his love? Either way, their love winds up healing them both and they learned to live again. Laura Lascarso, thank you for another great story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 Daniel Carter continues to do a fabulous job of portraying these characters, bringing out all their emotions and making you feeling every single one. He gives each character their own distinct voice, making it easy to follow along and tell who is who. Carter is a versatile voice artist and an entertaining storyteller, his narration enhances this to another level. Thank you for another great listen.

A fitting ending (an audio review)

The first two books in this series were super angsty…and this one was only mildly less so.

I love Giovanni. I’ve said this before – I want to wrap him in a big hug and hold him tight and tell him everything is going to be okay. Because things look dicey for him. His master died in the last book (okay, I still get teary at that), and he’s been left to the care of Signore (Sir) – Master’s younger brother.

On paper, at least, this seems like a good match – one is a masochist and one is a (sort of) sadist. One likes to Top and one likes to bottom. All isn’t easy, though. Sir prefers bondage while, for Giovanni, this has been a hard no. For super good reasons. But he wants to please Sir. For Sir, the infliction of deliberate pain is a hard no. But Giovanni needs pain to be inflicted like he needs air to breathe. So…can they compromise?

Also, Giovanni is still sort of broken, and anything that takes him away from his routine is liable to set him off. Sir can anticipate some of this, but at times, the depth of Giovanni’s mental illness confounds him. Still, he’s patient. He surrounds Giovanni with people willing to care for him. To nurture him. And, slowly, Giovanni makes progress. But it’s never linear – even as he finds courage to handle some things, he takes steps backward in others.

I yearned for a happy ending and I got one. Giovanni’s journey was one I was glad I listened to. Worth my time, for certain.

I’ll shout out to Daniel Carter who did a good job narrating this series. I wouldn’t hesitate to pick up more audios narrated by him and I’ll definitely be on the look out for more Laura Lascarso books.

Giovanni, Silvio’s broken, beautiful boy. Gio is grieving the loss of Valentin and Silvio must find a way to see him through it and to heal himself as well. My heart ached for them both and yet there are so many beautiful moments along their journey to find a way to live without him. To find a way together. This isn’t a story of sadness as much as it is of hope. Did I mention also very erotic? This is the most engrossed in rope play I have ever felt while reading. Silvio is a very different kind of dominant than Valentin was and while at the beginning they might wonder how this could possibly work, both are wholly dedicated to seeing it through. I enjoyed both styles of dominance. I absolutely adored Giovanni every step of the way. Beautifully written, their love story is heartfelt and engrossing. Surprisingly and amazingly no less epic than the story of Giovanni and Valentin. This isn’t 2nd best. This is life moving forward and love blossoming in such a way that it does not take away a moment Giovanni and Valentin’s life together. They both grow and learn from each other, they both bring out the best in each other. They respect the past and build a future. I am in awe of the author to pull this off in such a way, bravo! Now, can we have a graphic novel version? :)

Virtuous is the third and final book in the Giovanni Trilogy, and my favorite. I highly suggest reading the first two books in the series otherwise you’ll be lost and miss key details. This series is beautifully written, but it does have triggers and content that is not suitable for everyone – read the warnings.

My heart broke in the second book when Valentin passed away. It was an emotional moment with the consequences echoing and revibrating throughout this book. This book is angsty – there’s no getting around that when dealing with grief – but it also has a beautiful and happy ending that fit so perfectly with the overall storyline. I really enjoyed seeing Giovanni and Silvio’s relationship transform and bloom into what it finally becomes. Valentin will never be forgotten, but neither will his memory keep Giovanni and Silvio frozen in a rut. The foundation of this trilogy has been love, and that is felt deeply until the very end.

The audiobook was narrated by Daniel Carter who does a wonderful job voicing all the characters and bringing the poignant moments to life. There was a lot of emotion and intensity within this story, and Daniel narrated it wonderfully by giving us a balanced performance that felt touching without being over the top. The audiobook production was well done.

🎧Audiobook Review🎧
Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Performance: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is the third book with Giovanni and also this time it broke my heart not only once. I recommend reading or listening to the books in order to understand Giovanni and his pain. I suffered along with him, not only in this book, but also in the first two volumes.
The author wrote the books so well that I was very quickly immersed in the world of Giovanni, Silvio and Valentino. Giovanni did not come out of the last relationship unscathed and Silvio has his hands full trying to stop Giovanni's self-destructive behavior. But he, too, must be able to grieve at some point.
The characters have incredible depth and you can directly feel the pain while reading or listening to them and at the same time hope for a happy ending. I loved Giovanni, but Silvio is also endearing because he has a lot of patience with Giovanni and tries to give him what he needs.
I was happy about the ending, it fit for me. It was wonderful to accompany Giovanni on his journey, even if I needed some tissues.

Daniel Carter made me experience this audiobook very intensely. He was really good at portraying the emotions, the sadness, the pain, but also little joyful moments. He was the perfect narrator for this series and I will gladly look for more audiobooks with him as narrator.

Conclusion to a heart-wrenching trilogy

We have met and suffered with Giovanni throughout the three books, and each book breaks your heart on multiple occasions.

Exceptionally well written to the point that you want to reach in and help relieve the pain and heartache. The characters have such depth and diverse backstories that you are drawn in from the beginning.

The narration by Danial Carter was on point, but as usual, I did have to speed it up to 1.45 on audible. However, Danial does a great job of the characters, and he lulls you into a false sense of security before reading a part of the book that makes you cry. What a ride we went on.

The End

I wanted to give this book 3.5 stars but we can't. It would have been at least a 4* but the previous books in the trilogy were sooo spectacular! In this story Giovanni is less defined and his persona is more fluid. He is at times a slave, masochist, little, middle, but always a brat. His grief has him floundering, me too. Silvio in this telling is depicted as insecure and more of a Daddy than a Dom. It was disconcerting for me to hear him use the endearment "princess" in referring to his submissive. Silvio's grief also has him floundering, so me too. The evolution of both men seems forced. The inclusion of the Greek myths is again an inspired and welcomed addition. It seems like the author wanted to give her readers a HEA, so she compromised on some aspects of her main characters previously well drawn personality traits. However this is a must read if you've read the previous two books. I will miss Giovanni's world.

Audio review.
After reading the blurb I decided to give this author a try. I think going into this book I lucked but not reading the first two books in the trilogy.  Not knowing the relationships and learning from the MCs made me enjoy the story. Giovanni is  a sub that needs everything from Silvio. Silvio needs to learn how to work to understand what Giovanni needs and the confidence to give it to him. The intersections are tender, smoldering, and so much more. it's honestly difficult to describe.

This audio is fantastic. Each character is given a distinct voice. His voice is lovely and I will be looking for more books narrated by him.

The only issue I had with the story is some of the intimate scenes. Make sure to read all the trigger warnings.

Over all the audio was solid.

This book is so true to the fact that everyone grieves differently and even the same person grieves differently at different times after a death. Both Giovanni and Silvio are left reeling by Valentin's death and this is the story of how they find their way into a new and different relationship that allows them to still love Valentin and honor his memory while moving on and building a new life. Nothing is easy here, the emotions are raw and right on the surface but it was a story I couldn't put down. Reading it is a different experience from listening to the audiobook with a brilliant performance by Daniel Carter. Hearing these two is both more heartbreaking but in the end more hopeful as well.

I loved the first book and thought Gio and his Master were perfect for each other, so I didn't expect to enjoy Gio and his Sir as much as I did. Especially after not really being fond of his Sir in book 2 and I bawled like a baby at the end of book 2. However, I ended up finishing this book thinking that this relationship actually surpassed what Gio and Valentine had and it was wonderful seeing Gio finally grow as a person and blossom. Perhaps Valentine was too much of an enabler and Sir gave Gio the push he needed to live again. This was a very pleasant surprise. It was a very sweet, emotional, and steamy story that I loved from start to finish. Glad Gio finally got the HEA he deserved. It was a wonderful story.

The narrator did a fantastic job. He expressed all the emotions perfectly and brought the story to life. He gave the characters distinct voices that suited each character perfectly and were pleasant to listen to. This was a pleasure to listen to.

I really enjoyed this book. This is the first book I've listened to by this author. This story had such wonderful characters! I really loved both Silvio and Giovanni. This story was a beautiful and emotional journey of love and grief as they come to terms with Valentin's death- who was Silvio's brother and Gio's master- and heal and love.

I listened to this as an audiobook narrated by Daniel Carter. He did a fantastic job with his narration and the different voices. He spoke clearly and smoothly and I found his voice very soothing and compelling. This is the first I've listened of him and must find more of his work!

Overall a very enjoyable audiobook!

What a perfect end to this series! I’m just so satisfied about everything. The storyline, the feelings, the pacing and the ending!

Silvio and Giovanni are both grieving, and the love they find between them is so freaking beautiful. The two of them definitely misses their third part, but they find their own way of balance in live. Laura is a master in writing emotional stories, with broken men 💛 Just get your tissues out, it’s just so moving and emotional. Not angsty, just lots of feels 💛

The HEA at the end fits the story beautifully. It’s so them! 💛
In my opinion you need to read the two first books to get the full experience of this story 💛

Laura Lascarso has given us a brilliant trilogy, a journey that will forever be in my heart. I can't express with words the turmoil of emotions these books have raised when I read them.

Giovanni deserves to be loved, protected, and spoiled, and Silvio is the right man for the job. Only now he's lost, he does know how to fulfill Giovanni's needs. Master's absence is so present, his ghost everywhere, all the time.

Ugh, this book! I cried and screamed at the pages, and had my heart broken for both MCs. But Laura managed to put all the pieces together and give us a beautiful ending to the series.

“Master saved my life. Sir showed me how to live.”

Giovanni's story was a beautiful metamorphosis, from surviving to truly living, from the safety of structure to the addictive freedom and youth.

All sex scenes were captivating, but more so were the minds of the three men and their intimately shared perspectives, which were described with stunning care and depth by the author.

Grief, pain, and trauma are never easy to portray, especially not in a way that honors someone’s experience without glorifying suffering or disrespecting real-life journeys. But this trilogy did just that. It was deeply touching and emotionally stimulating in the best way possible.

This whole love story is beautiful but this ending was written so tenderly that you're able to grieve along with Giovanni and Silvio. You're witness to their healing and to their love for each other and most importantly, for Valentin.
I love that Gio grows and makes life changes but still remains true to himself and that his Sir there for him through it all.

I've waited for this book for so long and tried not to read it too fast so it would last as long as possible.

I love Laura's work because it's always so touching, so deep and so raw. We have seen Gio going through a lot, and there seems to be no end in sight, because that's how it works in real life too. It's an entire journey to get him to be happy, healthy, whole. And love is always helpful, but skills and management are required.

The very last sentence 𝙨𝙡𝙖𝙮𝙚𝙙 me. “𝑴𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒔𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒅 𝒎𝒚 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆. 𝑺𝒊𝒓 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒅 𝒎𝒆 𝒉𝒐𝒘 𝒕𝒐 𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆."

Utterly sublime; I swear, Laura Lascarso couldn’t have concluded this series any better. It’s bitter, beautiful, heart-wrenching, 𝒐𝒉𝒔𝒐𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒎𝒚, and achingly sweet.

This final installment is just as beautifully written as the first two... although, the depths of grief in this one are often quite heartbreaking. The emotional content will most likely leave you feeling bruised. The overall sense of loss may leave you feeling adrift. Prepare to feel the pain of these characters deeply. Lascarso never disappoints. She is a truly gifted wordsmith with a staggering talent for language and prose. 4.5 stars... docking half a star for leaving me gutted.

Greatly appreciated and admired Daniel Carter's absolutely outstanding audio performance bringing these compelling characters to life. A gorgeous listening experience!
