Needed Trigger Warnings

This wasn't the best written book but the plot was good until there was a CSA scene described on page without warning. Things like that definitely need trigger warnings before you start the book.

I received an advance review copy of Princess Broken, but I have not been paid/encouraged to leave any kind of review in particular.
That being said, I genuinely loved this book.

I'm not fussy about my RH romances (so long as they have some smut!), but I have loved the other vampire series by Mara Leigh. The Vampire's Illuminant especially.

One of the things I love about Mara's books is they just dive straight in, and the romance has quite a fast burn. Not that we don't get the set up for everything going on, but there's also not an annoying amount of exposition. It probably helps to have an understanding of who Ana is from the previous books (Bound by her Blood), but as this is Ana's first story of her own she does become a fully fledged character for the first time in this book.
Princess broken starts off straight away with Ana undertaking her diplomatic duties on behalf of the Vampire King. She's innocent and sweet, has strong morals and is has an understated strength that works well for her. She has her personal demons (literally!) but she's strong enough to acknowledge them and find ways of managing.
She meets her Psycho Vampire Bodyguards very quickly and despite some lies of omission everyone seems relatively happy with the situation. With the 4 of them, I get literally everything I love in a RH romance. Insta-love, denial, a little bully love/love-hate, and of course Ana's sexuality awakens full force. 5 star smut ahead, and the relationship building conversations are sweet. Ana knows how to be diplomatic, while still being sweet and caring. It's something the bodyguards are obviously unfamiliar with and that's a fun element.
The plot is entertaining enough. Not overly complex, and kind of everything you'd expect from a story about Princess Anastasia Romanov, but there are some mysteries going on with the bodyguards that are keeping me on my toes. It seems like perhaps everyone and everything is connected, I'm excited to see how this pays out.
If you enjoyed Mara Leigh's other vampire series, you'll love this. It's a nice continuation of the universe that has been created previously.

Horrendous tbh but I mildly enjoyed myself. Can’t give it more than 1 star for many reasons but will I read the next book? Possibly

3/5 Series Review

The first book was fast paced with the MFC meeting the MCs and the story coming forward only to stall out. She does nothing but laze about and wait. The second book things start to pick up and then the third book is just a ridiculous amount of sex scenes and sorts third act break up vibes. Melodramatic.

I thought I was going to love this because the others in this shared universe were well done. Anastasia Romanov as a vampire princess is a concept that could have been so BA. Unfortunately, you can tell from the very first few chapters that she’s actually a weak, self centered brat.

She’s an ambassador who is really bad at connecting dots and finding solutions. (Spoiler) When her century long blood bonded companion/only lover/closest friend is killed she constantly compares how much more she is attracted to these new vampires than him. She barely seems to be upset. Even if she was in shock in the moment, she never really takes time to truly grieve him.

She’s also ignorant and sheltered. Just because she spent the last century underground at the vampire palace doesn’t mean she should be so naive. In several situations she’s almost child like… it was awkward.

Perhaps it was my fault for assuming that Anastasia would be a powerhouse of a MFC and really come into her own in this spin off. Unfortunately, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Oh, and the brat holds a grudge. But only when she feels like it and not in a BA bitch grudge but more of a temper tantrum.

If that’s not enough, don’t worry, she’ll throw more child like tantrums when she doesn’t get her way. Especially in book 3. 🙄

I think the more I write I’m tempted to drop my review from a 3/5 to a 2.5/5. I also wish this was a duet and huge chunks of her internal whining would be cut out.

Princess Broken: Her Psycho Vampire Bodyguards Book 1 Kindle Edition

by Mara Leigh

Thank you to the author for the complimentary advanced reviewer's copy. I am choosing to leave a fair and honest review.

I tried, I mean I really tried to get through this book. It's not a case of DNF so much as could not finish.

The writing itself was just awful. I felt like I was reading a high school girl's version of what vampires would be like. The prose was choppy, never quite settling on a tone. The character of Anastasia was annoying, and the opening chapter's pov – Rasputin, were childishly created. They, too, felt like they came from the fevered imagination of a 17 year old.

Ms. Leigh was clearly aiming for a Reverse Harem dark romance and she missed the mark. It felt like she had taken notes from reading the masters of the sub-genre (Steffanie Holmes, Jaymin Eve, Tate James, Rebecca Royce, and Kristy Cunning) and was ticking off steps.

I can't recommend this book in any way.

Ive read a few books by this author and it never lets me down!

This story is amazing. First i thought oh no another vampire story but as i kept reading because yes i got hooked by Flame's pov, i found that eventho its a vampire RH it stil stands apart from the rest, it felt different to me its kind of hard to explain youd have to read it and then you be like yeah i get it!

Of all 4 guys Flame is my favorite!
And i could tell prettt early on that smitten kittens is a understatement! Even if they dont show it!

What really stood apart for me was the very first chapter! The information given there made me realise at the last chapter how and what it truely was and it also surprised me.. makes me think about the why Mariano did what he did it all made sence at the final chapter of the book and i LOVE that.

I also like Ana and her story/journey and i can only hope that the second book will be even better.

The story is amazingly written it hooks you and doesnt let you go.. it keeps you captivated till the very left sentence and then i wanted to cry because book 2 is not out yet and i need answer.. i need more.

I recommend this 8.5/10.

Great story

If you like vampire stories, you'll enjoy this one.

When vampire Princess Anastasia is set to meet with the head of a crime syndicate, all hell breaks out and she's rescued by 4 vampires who were hired by the mob boss to kidnap her at the last minute. The vamps take her back to their city, Freetown, where only certain vampires are allowed to live underground.

They are under the impression that because they killed her mate, they each owe her their lives forever. He was only her blood donor, she had no love for him, even though he loved her. She doesn't tell the men that though.

She needs to get back to the palace and to her father, the King. But soon, feelings begin to develop and two of them break the "code" and have sex with her and exchange blood.

When her "mate" suddenly turns up alive, the guys have no choice but to return her back to him. But once they do, they find his dead body that was on the scene and realize that she's been kidnapped by something evil.

Can't wait for the next book.

Anastasia (Ana) is set to met with a crime boss but when she's almost kidnapped and her blood donor is killed, 4 vampire bodyguards save her and take her. She's been hold up in the vampire castle since she was turned into a vampire about a century ago after her entire human family was murdered. She's been very sheltered and now with her freedom, she's wanting to live a little so to speak. Her vampire bodyguards are willing to do whatever she wants even though she's supposed to be hands off for them. They end up falling for her and she falls for them.

When the vampire bodyguards think that her blood donor is actually alive, they have no choice but to bring her back to him because they think he's Ana's mate even though he was just her blood donor. He had feelings for her but she never loved him.

There was a lot going on in this book. There was a lot of danger for Ana and the twists just kept coming. I never knew where this story was going to end up. The storyline was good for the most part but it was rather wordy and lagged a bit in parts.

Great Read!

Whilst a story involving Princess Anastasia Romanov surviving the assassination of her family is not a new concept this one was well thought out and made for great reading.
As far as this story goes, it’s clear that the upbringing of her “bodyguards” and indeed her own upbringing human and vampire make it cringeworthy at times, it’s very definitely a romantic kind of cringeworthy. In this story it’s not just the Princess who as the title suggests is broken but her would be mates are broken too. This is an intelligent merging between fantasy and elements of the real life story of Anastasia.
Would definitely recommend this book for those who love the vampire genre of urban fantasy. I’m only a little put out that I forgot to make sure that all books in the series had been released. At least it’s due later this year.

This was my first time reading anything by Mara Leigh and I was not disappointed!!! I did not want Princess Broken to end. I am obsessed with Ana and how innocent she is and loved seeing her come into her own sexuality. Plus I love a FMC that is sarcastically funny! The relationship between Ana and her new bodyguards was frustrating and enjoyable and 🔥🥵! And I wanted more from the all, well maybe not Phil (but I am holding onto hope that he will redeem himself)! This book does end on a cliffhanger and it was a pretty big plot twist!!! I cannot wait for the next book in this series to come out.

Overly protection detail

Anastasia is the younger sister of Selina from one of the author's other series. Now in her role as ambassador to the crown she ends up in the protection of 4 vampires after a deal gone wrong. Not too bad except their protection means not going home and unlocking other feelings she didn't expect.

The beginning was a bit of a slow warm up to me but then it started to warm up. We got to learn more about each guy and their code. The ending was very interesting I look forward to seeing how the next book plays out.

Wow, what a read. This book grabbed me and kept me reading until the very last page. It moves along at a pace that makes for an easy and enjoyable read. The characters are amazing and no matter what happens you cannot help but love them. This book is a must read that needs to be on the top of your TBR list, there is no doubt about it.

Princess Anastasia is a Vampire?

Princess Anastasia, the lost Russian princess is still alive because she is a vampire. Four goofy guards think they killed her mate and feel responsible for her and are attracted to her, and she is attracted to them. I will let you guess what happens.

Eh I didn't really think it was all that sexy. I liked the men and the story but there was just a lot of unnecessary stuff that bored me. I finished and moved on to the second one already because I can't help myself.
