Rate this book
Featuring the next three books in Jack Gatland's DI Declan Walsh series , this collected edition brings you WHISPER FOR THE REAPER, TO HUNT A MAGPIE and A RITUAL FOR THE DYING.

Books included as part of this box set:

4: WHISPER FOR THE REAPER
Sometimes the quietest villages have the loudest secrets… Ten years ago, DCI Patrick Walsh found himself hunting The Red Reaper; a serial killer so cunning that every body found with his calling card was reluctantly classed as a suicide. Never seen, never found, never caught. Now, DI Declan Walsh, suspended and on injury leave finds himself pulled back into this unsolved case of his late father, when a series of new bodies start to appear in his village; all seemingly suicides, and all with the same calling card...

5: TO HUNT A MAGPIE
One for sorrow... Two for death. Thirty years ago a group of five child detectives; Tommy, Luke, Tess, Jane and Daniel, along with their dog, Dexter made the national press with their crime solving. Nicknamed the Magpies , their adventures were written up as novels by author Reginald Troughton and released to children around the world, including a ten-year old Declan Walsh. But now, someone is targeting the Magpies , with Reginald brutally murdered while writing a last, 'lost' adventure. And DI Declan Walsh and the team of the Last Chance Saloon must not only solve Reginald's murder with the 'help' of these rusty amateurs, but at the same time save the surviving members of the Magpies from a devious and determined killer with a chilling connection...

6: A RITUAL FOR THE DYING
Thrice cursed. Thrice bound. Thrice damned. When the body of a famous television academic is discovered in Greenwich Park, carefully positioned beside a megalithic stone fountain and missing a hand, DI Declan Walsh and the team of the Last Chance Saloon find themselves not only involved in a case that connects to the supernatural, but one that also involves 17th century architects, Ley Lines, nuclear reactors and a secret, black market organisation that specialises in particular occult items; some that date all the way back to both Aleister Crowley and the Elizabethan Magician, Dr John Dee himself, and connected to a missing treasure. But as the team hunt a killer, one that uses ritualistic locations and weapons to perform their murders, Declan will journey on a heretical treasure hunt through an underground pagan and spiritual subculture of witches, shamans, druids, magicians and heathens, a world of esoteric luncheons and virtual sabbats, and where curses are believed real, and the dead indeed talk...

...But is one of those dead voices that of his one-time love, Kendis Taylor?

Really good fun as long as you’re able to suspend disbelief for long enough! Light hearted.
Some irritating facets. Americanisms such as ‘on the weekend’ and calling a police station a precinct. The Royal Parks Constabulary was abolished in 2005 but still lives on in this book while Dr Marcos’ rôle is pushing fancifulness to the absolute limit.
This may be a Kindle thing but why so many italics?!

worth the read but…

I love this series but book 6 had too many characters, aliases, and plot twists. I found I lost interest. The first 2 books were great though

Like some other “followers” book six was a struggle. Nearly didn’t finish it. While I’ve purchased next three I feel I need a break, so reading different author / genre.

Excellent series of 3 books.
I am not sure I would want to be one of "Dekkers" friends as they don't seem to last too long!

Good no-holds-barred combination of mystery and thriller
