I just needed to get through my senior year of college.
Figure out where to accept an internship after graduation.
Then, there he was.
Ready to be my knight in shining armor, unafraid of the flames surrounding me.
But you wanna know a secret?
I was the true villain.
Not brave enough to quell the shadows from my past.
And by the time I realized what I’d done?
It was too late.

Violet Young is a senior at Hartford University, where she’s earning her degree in art. Liam Storm is the successful owner of Storm Construction. Violet and Liam’s pasts have left them both in torment, haunted by wounds that have yet to heal.
When fate seems to keep pushing them together, resisting temptation eventually feels like a losing battle. But someone doesn’t want Vi and Liam together. And they’re willing to do anything to keep them apart.

4.5 ⭐️ I could compare this book to a walk in the forest during a sunny Fall afternoon. You’ll enjoy the view, all the different colours, you’ll be happy, feeling great. But then, you’ll take a different route from what you are used to and BAM! there’s a little hill to climb. You’re surprised by it, didn’t notice those little signs telling you it’ll be there. You’ll climb it… it won’t always be easy, maybe you’ll fall, maybe you’ll get hurt… but it’ll be worth it because the view at the top will be everything you wished for.
That’s what reading Burned has been for me. Started out slowly, nicely, meeting these new characters, swooning over Liam (girls… the man is perfection, thoroughly broken but perfect in every single way👌🏻), thinking that Violet could easily be one of my friends. Meeting the gang and enjoying the ride. The thing is, I didn’t pay enough attention to those little details, the ones that lead me to this new path in my reading journey… and, as expected, there was my little hill to climb! So, that’s what I did, and, of course, I got hurt a little along the way, but boy was it worth it!
So, give this book a shot, climb the hill, I’m sure you’ll enjoy the view 😉
𝗣𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝘂𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲: ❤️🔥Swoon worthy romance ❤️🔥Great character development and growth ❤️🔥Spice spice spice ❤️🔥All the feels
This is a new to me author and I'm so glad I found her! I loved Liam and Violet together. They had really good chemistry and each had doubts about being together but pulled through when they realized they couldnt stay away from eachother. I loved the mystery, the spice the plot...all of it. Ready for Cam and Lucy!
Resolved to meaningless relationships and consumed with his family’s construction company to avoid being hurt and abandoned. Liam will never let anyone make him feel lost, heartbroken and unwanted…ever again.
Convinced she is content with her art and her few close friends, she doesn’t need anything more than that. Violet is haunted by trauma, and in her mind undeserving of love and happiness…not after everything that has happened anyway.
But...life has other plans for Liam and Violet.
A.J. Ray’s debut novel is mesmerizing. A fresh and engaging story of two wounded souls who find and heal each other in ways neither could fathom. A beautiful and emotional friends-to-lovers romance that holds you in it’s grips as Liam and Violet navigate through life, loss, betrayal and heartbreak…only to find healing and happiness in the end. A.J. has crafted such immensely deep personalities in Liam and Violet, that you can almost feel the emotion rolling off the pages as you read. Perfectly balanced with romance, spice, suspense and beauty, Burned is a five star read for me. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the next two books in the White Plains series, Broken and Betrayed.
This book gave me all the feelings.. I was on an emotional rollercoaster and was unsure of what was going to happen next.
I feel as though these characters where people in real life I felt such a connection to Violet and Liam. Both of them have these intense stories from their childhood that have stuck with them as adults and hindered them in finding or trying to find love.
Liam runs his Pop’s construction company, after his pops passes away suddenly. Liam basically just focuses on being a good boss and running the company. Then he meat Violet by chance at a club and date has other plans.
Violet is such a smart, sassy and determined character. I instantly felt like she could be my best friend. She cares a lot about her family and friends. Very focused on her senior year of college and finding an internship.
The burn is slow with Liam and Violet as they both basically say they want to be friends but once the fire is lite there is no turning back for either of them.
Though there was so interesting twists that I totally didn’t see coming and was quite shocked. I do see why it happened and understand it now.
You need to go read this book! I can’t recommend it enough!!
Phew, this book! It had me going there for a minute! It’s one of those reads where you wait for something to happen and then wait for all the things to stop happening, but in a very enjoyable way.
Violet is such a sweet character and even though her life has been touched by tragedy she still views the world through a kind heart. When her mind and her heart war with turbulent emotions…well it made for a good story that I’m happy to have read.
Liam is set in his happily forever alone, but not for the night, ways. He brings the steam and spice all on his own but lucky him, Vi is here for it. Thanks to a moment in his childhood that forever changed him, he’s not exactly an open book. But maybe a certain artist will change that for him?
Overall, this was an easy and enjoyable read. It had good chemistry between the MCs, spicy scenes, fun side characters, a little bit of action to keep you guessing, and one of the sweetest endings out there.
This is a good book for those of us reading on our breaks at work as it’s a moving story but there aren’t a ton of twists and turns. I would recommend this book to fellow romance readers.
There is a bit of mystery/suspense that’s woven throughout the book. It’s not a main focus, but it’s there as and added storyline which adds some more intrigued to the book.
This focuses more on Liam and Violet’s relationship and watching two people fall in love who never thought they would be able to.
A.J. Ray does a really great job with portraying the characters feelings and emotions. I was crying just reading the prologue.
I will admit I was so mad at Violet for doing what she did to Liam. I didn’t want Liam to forgive her, because I was so so mad at her. I know she has past trauma, but she didn’t even try to work through the situation or anything. Didn’t try to process it and talk it out with Liam.
But as you continue to read you realize that Violet regrets it and the anger that may have been simmering towards her does dissipate.
I look forward to reading Cameron and Lucy’s book!
From broken, fear filled pasts comes new beginnings.
I LOVED this book! AJ Ray did such an amazing job at writting her characters to be relatable and beautiful.
I loved Violet and her timid, artsy personality. She wants a relationship and not a one night stand. But with Liam, she feels like maybe a one night stand wouldn't be so bad after all.
Liam's been hurt in the past and doesn't trust well. He's the sweetest, most generous man, who is just scared to put himself out there. But when he meets Violet he falls and he falls hard.
This book was everything. Liam and Violet were meant to be, their love for the ages. They find each other and everything finally feels like it's the way it should be. But the twist you don't see coming will knock you on your butt!
I would recommend this book over and over till I was blue in the face.
It was really hot and emotional reading! Violet and Liam. Omg, I couldn't imagine how wonderful they are. Each page got more and more interesting and more interesting and I wanted to know how it would all end.
Violet. She is a really sweet and pretty character. She is kind and emotional. I really liked to watch her thoughts and actions. as a character she was perfect for me i totally got her vibe. I would call their relationship pleasant and spicy, like christmas gingerbread spicy but very sweet and pleasant. In this book I liked everything: the hot moments, a pleasant ending, their relationship that they tried to build and what they did for this relationship. It is a perfect book for romance lovers!
Violet is still scarred and broken from an accident in her past that cost her everything. Liam felt the sting of abandonment at a young age and has vowed to never feel unloved and unwanted again. Both have pushed everyone away as they felt unworthy of love. They accidentally bump into each other not once but twice. Fate seems to keep pushing them into each other and eventually despite their best efforts they can’t help but be pulled into each other seeing the walls around themselves reflected in the other.
Can they finally allow themselves the chance to be happy together or will their pasts continue to tear them apart?
Liam and Violet were such sweet but damaged little babes. I wanted to wrap them both in a big hug. The tension between these two was perfection. They were truly exactly what the other needed no matter how much they felt they didn’t deserve it. And I always give bonus points for a cute pet especially a cute little doggo.
Plus we got a little element of suspense at the end there that kept me on the edge of my seat. I had a feeling something was up with a certain character but I definitely didn’t see that coming 👀
Overall I really enjoyed this read and for AJ’s first book I’m so impressed by how good it was! If you’re looking for an easy and captivating read with characters you’ll fall for and a little bit of action then I think this is one you need to check out! I can’t wait to read more from AJ and I’ll definitely be reading Cam and Lucy’s story soon!
Burned by AJ Ray ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5 Liam has abandonment issues. He has chosen to focus on running his family’s business and just having the occasional fling. All of that changes when he meets Violet. A beautiful college senior who instantly takes his breath away. They decide to be friends as both are not wanting a relationship. They both realize quickly that their friendship is beautiful and it has suddenly blossomed into so much more. When life throws a curveball will Violet stick around or will her actions become Liam’s biggest fear? You will just have to read to find out! This book is so good! A friends to lovers, small town, who hurt you romance you do not want to miss!
I feel like my review will not do this book justice, but I will try! - I loved the characters in this book and their development. The storyline was excellent because not only did you have a love story, you had two people struggling to overcome horrific events in their pasts, that continued to shape them and affect their present lives. You had darker elements in the form of guys that don’t take rejection well. Mysterious events happening throughout the book. Granted, I had kinda guessed who the ‘bad guy’ was gonna be, but I still didn’t figure out the whole plot. This was just a thoroughly enjoyable read! And the spice was pretty good too!!
There is no way this is her debut book. I've read new authors before and their first books are usually rocky. This book was so incredible I need more. I pre ordered the next book an I can't wait. Where are your other books hiding. I need them. I loved all the characters, but Liam wow just wow. I am now (safe and friendly) stalking her now so I don't miss any books. I'm so glad I saw her on Instagram looked up her book and ordered it. Read it in one day I couldn't put it down. Thank you for an awesome book. This book will not disappoint. I'm a fan.
I absolutely loved this book! I stayed up way too late reading it because I had to see how it ended. I loved the beginning friends with benefits and then the falling in love vibe of Liam and Violet. The way the author built the suspense of each characters past was really well done. There was a little drama, some spice and a twist of who-done-it. This is a fantastic debut book! I can’t wait to read the next one!
This story is really good. This is a debut author and I am totally in love with her writing and characters. I can't express enough how much I enjoyed this book and the way it all I folded.
Liam and Violet are both not looking for love and have pasts that still linger... But to read their story and watch them grow and fall in love is so sweet. You also get some suspense in this story and that made it even better.
I can't wait to dive into the next book of the series.
Liam and Violet were a match made in trauma heaven. Though there was barely any real healing on Liams side, I think the HEA the author gave us meant to show that he had healed. Violet had to work through hers and confronted it, I am not sure Liam did, at least not 'on screen'.
The book was a quick read, only taking about 3 hours. It was well written and I truly loved the characters. I'm off to snag the 2nd!
First of all I can’t believe this is A.J. Ray’s debut book! Such a well written storyline, amazing narrative and great attention to details! I got all of the feels reading this slow burn romance, with the main characters, Violet and Liam. Very believable and just a must read. The secondary characters leave room for more books by this awesome author and the Epilogue is simply priceless ❤️
I liked the sweet chemistry between the female character and the male protagonist. He was charming, she was flirty in a fun way that felt organic and honest.
I had a hard time reading all the toxic tropes though. Every male character that wasn't the main guys friend was met with way over the top macho posturing. There's more but I'll let them go.
This debut novel was amazing I was up all night reading this. I was drawn in by the story and it kept me engaged throughout. The characters were well established and the whole story was just amazing. there was just the right amount of steam and angst . I adored it . I am hitting the next book in the series now and I can't wait
Oof. This was not my jam. Almost DNF. Characters were so blah, the story was so far fetched, everything felt forced and unnatural… kind of hated it. I finished it because I was hopeful the end would redeem the rest of the boring story. It tried. It failed. Too many things happened and the big dramatic event at the end made no sense.
This book really was such a great read. It gave me all the feels. My heart broke for Violet and Liam all that they had to endure. Liam was so passionate. Violet is full of so much sass I loved it. The author really drew you in with these characters. I couldn’t get enough of this book. I need more!
A little too cheesy for me and the constant miscommunication or lack of communication was driving me nuts. I almost couldn’t finish reading it, but I just had to know how it ends. It was just an okay read for me, overall
violet is such a kind soul. she’s optimistic despite the situations she’s faced thru out her life. she’s an independent girl who knows what she wants when she wants. not to mention she’s an artist who cares for everyone around her.
liam’s honesty is one thing i really liked ab him. his not afraid to be vulnerable & open. boy oh fucking boy does he have a filthy mouth; WHICH WE LOVE. he’s been through a lot in his life & has struggled to let himself be fall in love bcos of it, which truly broke my heart.
and lucy deserves a special mention as she is the friend we all need. sum one who says it how it is & always has ur back through thick & thin. i hope & wish she finds the same happiness too bcos she deserves it.
this was a truly amazing book filled with suspense, romance & so many laughable moments. the chemistry between the two of them was nothing short of amazing. they truly deserve nothing but the best!!🥹
3⭐️- cute book, just fine. Liam clearly needs more therapy and so does Violet. If they’d had that then I’m sure this book could have been a 4.
Violet and Liam keep bumping into each other, and can’t help the attraction that they feel. Both having issues in their past that make them hesitant to date, they try to be friends, but can’t help their chemistry.
All goes well for a long time, your typical end of college romance. Dates, parties, friends, classes, work, but with some issues thrown in there. Liam clearly has someone who is not pleased with him. His business has one of their jobs burned down, Violet is told to break things off with him, he’s in a car accident, his house is vandalized, and just some overall weirdness.
The third act breakup is a little annoying to me. This is where the therapy comment comes in. All of it could have been avoided if they just worked through their stuff and communicated.
Aside from the third act break up and it feeling a little rushed, I really didn’t mind the book. Not a bad read.
This is an amazing book. Rare to find such substance in a college aged book. Liam and Violet are great together. Very well written. Love the closeness of the guys. The texts in the book are fun. Not overdone at all. Very enjoyable and I read this in one sitting as I couldn't wait to see what happened next. Nicely done Ms. Ray.
