Elise wishes she were invisible. Roan wishes he wasn’t.

ROAN
At eighteen, I was a young man winning the game of life. I had a college football scholarship and a cute girlfriend on my arm for my hometown’s annual Halloween party. Forget spiking the punch. The eccentric old scientist who lives in the woods brewed something more potent… and permanently life-altering.

Twenty years later, I’m not a man, I’m a monster. Invisibility isn’t the superpower people think it is. It’s a curse. A condition I wouldn’t wish on anyone, and since the crazy old scientist doesn’t know how I got this way, or if I can spread it to others, I’m not just destined to be unseen, I’m also going to be alone. That’s how it has to be.

Until the night I post a grumpy “In Search Of” ad, and get a single reply. I don’t know why Elise agreed to my self-serving demands of complete visual anonymity, but my life was instantly fuller because she did. I don’t have to see her to fall for her. But I know it can never be more than long-distance feelings and inspiration for my right hand.

Until the day Elise surprises me by breaking our anonymity agreement and shows up in my coffee shop… and gets a monstrous surprise in return.

ELISE
People can claim otherwise, but appearances matter. I learned that after an accident left one side of my face heavily scarred. I’m used to the staring. The pointing and whispering. Kids asking their parents if I’m a monster. I’m also used to being alone, because the dating pool dried up the day I lost half my beauty.

I was searching job listings the night I found Roan’s “In Search Of” post. It’s been years since I read a singles ad, and I still don’t know why I did. Call it coincidence, fate, or the universe doing something to balance the scales. It was as if Roan wrote that ad for me.

Every day since has been better than the one before it. My friends think Roan must be a hideous ogre to be hiding behind his “no pictures, no contact” rule. I don’t care what he looks like. Roan and I click in every way–and I do mean every. He doesn’t need to touch me in person to satisfy me. But I’d like him to.

Six months after agreeing to his conditions, I want to break them. I’m ready to take the biggest risk of my life–rejection by the man I love. I want all of Roan Byrne. The good, the sexy, and if he does turn out to be an ogre, the ugly. I only hope that when he sees me, he feels the same way…

**4/5 stars**

This series has the same premise for every novella. After a dreadful Halloween night, the people who drank a special punch started morphing into monsters and they now all live in a little town called Screaming Woods.

In this novella, we follow Roan, an invisible man who has an online romance with Elise, who has been scarred from a car accident a decade ago. It all started from an 'In Search of' that Roan posted on the internet, with the requirements of anonymity. He never expected someone to message him back, but Elise didn't hesitate one second. Since then, they've been texting to each other, getting closer and closer, and falling in love...Until Elise decides to go against their agreement of never seeing each other in person and visits him in Screaming Woods.

I actually really liked this novella. It was original, cute and well paced. I'm happy that the main characters had known each other for a few months before they met. It only strenghtened their relationship in my eyes.

Roan was reserved but protective, and a bit jealous and possessive at times. He showed a bit of insecurity because of his condition but was willing to work with options Elise came up with.

“In Search Of” ad
I’m not proud of. ISO single, non-superficial woman with intelligence and a sense of humor. Bonus points for a dirty mind, if only for the sake of fun conversation. Cybersex optional, but not required. Online, visually anonymous communication only. No in-person meet ups, no video chats, no exchange of pictures. My appearance is off-limits, and in return, yours is completely unimportant to me. Terms are non-negotiable.

-Roan

As for Elise, she was sweet and creative. I liked that she was brave enough to try to meet Roan in person, as she was very complexed by her scarred face. For some reason, I was happy to she wasn't a virgin.

Dear Unlucky Giant Leprechaun,
I meet your criteria and I accept your terms. Let’s arrange a time to chat. Maybe we’ll both be luckier for it.

I thought they made a lovely couple, had good chemistry and they made me smile more than once, which is a bonus.

Love's Invisible Connections

This was a really cute and a bit unexpected quick listen. I love how they met - virtually and in person. Elise and Roan have some hurdles to overcome, and they use plenty of ingenuity to come up with solutions.

The steam was... mmm.... 😍 The supporting cast of characters was intriguing. 😄 They definitely weren't run of the mill!

I received an author's copy of the audio book. The narrators are Lexi Evans and Logan Anare. I'm fairly certain it was my first time enjoying either, and I really liked both Irish accents, duet narration, and all!

Well, this was definitely unique and kinda fun! This was my first read with an invisible hero.

Elise and Roan meet online after Roan drunkenly and frustratingly puts out an ad on a singles site. Elise is intrigued by it and decides to respond. Surprising to both of them, they hit it off. Both agree to an online relationship, because one doesn’t want to be seen and the other CAN’T be seen. And neither believe they are worthy or capable of being loved.

I was pleasantly surprised by this short, sweet and sometimes quirky story set in the town of Screaming Woods. Elise and Roan are adorable together and I enjoyed reading their story.

All the monsters in this town were affected by a curse 20 years ago and it’s fun to see all the different characters who live there. I look forward to meeting more of them.

A really fun Halloween read!

I’m not normally a paranormal romance reader but I enjoyed this short instalove read a lot. In fact the concept for the entire series was interesting and unique.

Many years ago at a Halloween party, I scientist messed with the punch and it turned anyone who drank it into some kind of “monster”. I loved that take on the traditional-we met at a Halloween party-Halloween trope.

This was the first book I picked up in the series and it was about an invisible man who fell for his pen pal. Not only is he invisible, but he can turn some other objects invisible as well so he’s pretty concerned about touching his girl. This leads to them getting rather creative in the bedroom.

Good read that I recommend this season!

Elise was badly scarred in a car accident. Roan was rendered invisible after a magic potion went awry and turned everyone at a Halloween party into monsters. Both Elise and Roan have resigned themselves to a life alone.

Then Roan, in an act of drunken impulsiveness, posts a personal ad and Elise replies. The conditions are firm--they'll never meet in person.

But attraction and curiosity soon have Elisa breaking the rules. But will they risk all by revealing all?

Now You See Me is a short erotic romance novella that heats up pretty quickly since the characters already know each other when the story starts. The characters are charming, the story inventive, and the sex scenes hot & sweet.

This a great afternoon read. I read it in one sitting.

Three stars ☆☆☆

Twenty years ago, after sampling a homebrew at a Halloween party, Roan turned into a monster. Other people turned into other things- ogres, zombies, dragons, etc. But Roan simply... disappeared for years. He turned into an invisible man. Nearly everything he touches becomes invisible too. He places an ad online to potentially meet someone- but there would be no pictures exchanged or video calling.

Elise is heavily scarred and after ten years of celibacy she decides to branch out and answer Roan's ad. They get along great for six months. After falling in love with Roan, Elise decides to move to his town to meet him.

There's a lot that I liked about this book- the pacing, the chemistry between the hero and heroine, and the ending. I wasn't a fan of him wearing gloves and having to use a plastic sheet to keep them separate during sexy times, that kinda turned me off.

For a quick short read, this was pretty nicely done! Sweet characters, the whole invisibility concept rather well thought out, and i loved that the heroine was like “yea just try pushing me away”

I’m grateful for the Screaming Woods series for introducing me to a couple of new-to-me authors like this one. HOWEVER. these covers are some of the worst I’ve seen in the romance category.

Now You See Me de Karla Doyle parte de la serie Monster Between the Sheets

Argumento:

Elise desea ser invisible. Roan desea que no lo fuera.

Roan

My favourite so far. Roan and Elise were a fun couple, both with their own fears and insecurities. I liked the blind dating thing and how they became each other's world. I'm glad Roan wasn't a dick in the alley and fessed up. Atticus outing him was funny. The latex sex was interesting. I'm curious about Leroy.

- Invisible man
- Scarred FMC (caused by an accident)
- Online romance
- Teeny tiny misunderstanding
- Very creative spicy time

Twenty years ago in Screaming Woods, a mishap with the punch at the town Halloween party caused a good number of residents to turn into various types of monsters. All books in this series deal with the aftermath of that event and thus have similar vibes/tropes. Roan was on his way to getting a football scholarship when the punch turned him invisible, now everything pourus he touches, also becomes invisible. He has gone a long time without human (or monster) contact because of it. One night when drunk he posts an ad online, "fun times with no strings and no pictures". Elise, who is scarred from an accident, answers. They fall in love and Elise pushes boundries.

This is a super cute story that kind of hits close to home for a lot of people, meeting online and falling in love with the idea of someone. It was not something I had read before and I really enjoyed it and it definitely is one of my favorites so far.

Since Roan is so scared to touch anything skin to...well skin I guess, he and Elise have to find very creative ways to do the deed. Latex gloves and a shower curtain namely. It was sort of fun to watch them stumble around and figuring it out, doing anything to be with each other.

Excellent!

Elise and Roan were a great couple in this oh so cute steamy little monster series! Roan is the ultimate invisible man and Elise loves him in spite of it. Two flawed characters who develop an intense love for each other based on what's internal instead of the external. One of the best stories in this series of short stories!

YES! YES! YES! Everything about this monster romance is a resounding YES!! I couldn’t get enough of this book and its outstanding writing. A monster romance liked you’ve never read with steamy scenes like you have never experienced!!

First of all, the premise of this multi author series is unique and refreshing. I can’t wait to read every book in it! Almost an entire town is turned into some form of monster after a local scientist tried to create some fun during a Halloween party. The hero of this story is Roan, who became the invisible man because of the punch. Not only is he invisible but he turns anything porous that he touches invisible. WHAT?!? Now that’s a crazy addition to a romance!

He meets Elise online after she responds to his ISO ad looking for friendship with anonymity. She’s a woman who was disfigured in a car accident and wishes she could be invisible. She quickly becomes his everything but he knows they can never have more. Things take an interesting turn when she’s willing to overcome her own physical deformities to come looking for him. The things these two are willing to try in order to be with each other makes this book absolutely fantastic! One of the most incredible and unique romances I have ever read. I was thrilled with the ways things came together for this couple and couldn’t have asked for a more perfect ending. If you are interested in a monster romance with unique scenes, lovable characters, extremely steamy scenes, and a beautiful ending, than this is the book for you!!

An invisible man with an Irish accent finds love!
Audiobook edition: 5 stars overall, 5 stars story, 5 stars narration

It’s hard for an invisible man to find love, especially if his invisibility is contagious. This charming, good guy named Roan meets the love of his life online, Elise, a regular lady with facial scarring. I highly recommend this 2-hour audiobook to anyone who likes steamy paranormal romance with great relationship development. There are some curse words and a few steamy scenes. From the first few minutes, I became hooked on the unusual long-distance relationship story and was rooting for the two to really get together. I love the writing from a new-to-me author. It has great, romantic dialogue and a lovely HEA.

Although the overly simple backstory of the isolated town full of “monstous-looking” but friendly people is rather hard to believe, I quickly fell in love with this quirky town, and I look forward to listening to more books in this series by Karla Doyle.

The duet narration was exquisitely performed by Lexi Evans and Logan Anare. I haven’t listened to these narrators before, and I was very impressed. They immediately brought the story to life, and I felt sympathy for the loneliness and difficult circumstances of each character. Logan Evans has such a sexy Irish accent for the guy, and both narrators have beautiful tones to their voices. They are excellent at pacing, emoting, and everything. In addition, the production quality was excellent.

I requested and received a free audiocode from the author, and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

I gotta say this is one heck of a unique fantasy/sci-fi romance. A crazy scientist spikes the punch at a party in an entirely new way and everyone changes.
The town survives with the new situation and everyone accepts each others unique issues. The coffee shop owner Roan has learned to live without touching any human for fear of changing them as he has other porous things.
Meanwhile, in another larger city an accident causes a woman named Elise to be disfigured in face and neck. The facial damage causes people to consider her grotesquely changed.
They live in closed off worlds. One in an almost fantastical way of not everyone finding the little town of changed humans. The other living and working in the same house with some friends, but neither having love. Neither feeling they are worth it due to circumstances.
Aad, let us face it THIS book is about true love. The kind that starts based on the persons character, personality, heck, based on their soul. Instead of the way the world today focuses on swiping left or right based on a big picture of the outside and a small blip of a bio.
Kinda heavy topic in a heck of a good story. Unique and worthy of any time of year (i did find it for Halloween).

Structure is good. Maybe a couple small edit blips of am added word or sentence that needed a tweek. Nothing heavily incorrect. Characters had depth and, for a short fantasy/sci-fi, a great deal of care was taken to ensure as few loopholes as possible in plot and scenarios. Very good and extremely well done.

Sex is described. Nothing forced or rough. Some “dirty” language used between characters. HEA.

I loved this book! What a unique paranormal romance! I've lately read several ghost romance stories and really enjoyed them. But one with a living character who was invisible and could turn other living things invisible by touching them was new, unique, and a definite must read for me! Great world building and wonderful characters. Roan has been living alone and invisible for twenty years after drinking the punch at a Halloween party that changed everyone into monsters. He might not have become a werewolf, zombie, naga, or dragon, but turning invisible and not being able to touch anyone without cursing them to his fate led to a lonely life. He posted a message in a chat room to essentially make an online friend to enjoy conversations with with no possibility of meeting up or revealing themselves. He was lucky enough to get a reply and they hit it off for the last 6 months. Elise was badly scarred after a car accident and people avoid her or think she's a monster. She's been more open with Roan than she ever has with anyone and knows he's the only one for her. So she decides to take a leap of faith and go to see him in person. This was such a wonderful, captivating story and I loved all the characters. I wish it were longer than it was! This is the first book I've read by this author and I hope to read more in this series! 5 stars.

This is an OK paranormal romance, but I did have a few issues with it. It gets 3 stars from me.

Mostly it was too short to have as much character development as I like. I would have liked more backstory on both Roan and Elise.

I liked that the couple got to know each other online, with texts, and with phone calls before they actually met. That gave them time to get to know each other, so I believed they were actually in love. They were also in lust, but they did love each other.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

Ebook

2.75/5

Summary: Almost 20 years after a town-wide poisoning left him invisible, the coffee shop owner MMC strikes up an online friendship and romance with a scarred and somewhat shut in FMC who he never intends to meet in person - until she shows up in town.

Stats: CR/PNR, M/F, open door, part of a series but stand alone, novella

Notes: This had some interesting moments, but really, it was just too short to develop anything well enough. I would have found it more interesting if the development of the epistolary relationship got more time rather than being jumped over. Finally, once again, no, no, no - your parents being Irish doesn’t mean you have any great likelihood of having an Irish accent yourself after never having lived in Ireland. It’s just not how it works the vast majority of the time - why, why was this added? It makes no sense and is completely unnecessary.

For the last 20 years Roan has been Screaming Woods resident invisible barista.
Before the Halloween Party that changed his life 20 years prior, Roan had big dreams that didn't automatically mean him taking over his parents coffee shop. Watching a few of his fellow monsters find women who love them, even though they're monsters has Roan feeling his lonliness even more. But how is an invisible man suppose to date?
Good thing for computers!

Elise never knew answering an ad could change her life so completely. After an accident left her scarred up she's now become use to the looks people give her, the murmur behind hands, and just the overall isolation that has seemed to come from her looks now. She has pretty much isolated herself to her house to save herself from the looks and whispers.
When she answers Roan's ad she feels as if they are both kindered spirits. After months though, Elise is ready to push the boundries that Roan and her set forth in the beginning. She believes that both can look beyond the other's exteriors or problems and maybe have a happy relationship that goes beyond the computer.

This one was so cute.
I loved and laughed at the innovated ways Elise went about for them to be intimate.
I'm interested to learn if the good scientist ever finds a way to maybe change the residents back...

Next up in our Screaming Woods adventures is a man who's a little bit invisible (okay, a lot invisible) and a woman who tries to keep her scars hidden. Roan can't imagine there's a woman out there who wouldn't mind his inability to be seen. Elise can't imagine there's anyone who could overlook her scars.

GUESS WHAT? These two work nicely together. After a six month stretch of getting to know one another via chat and by phone, Elise takes the plunge and heads to Screaming Woods to see about a face to face meeting. Sure, it's against their rules and she's very much afraid Roan will reject her once he sees her scars, but she's putting herself out there because she feels like it's something she needs to do.

On Roan's end, he's thrown for a loop when Elise shows up at his coffee shop. It takes some wise words from his employee to get him moving in the right direction. Which is toward Elise, in case it wasn't clear.

No joke, I'm enjoying my time spent in this town with these monsters.

Okay, so I went into this with the expectations of the last two and I was pleasantly surprised.

First, I love that two people who viewed themselves as horribly as Roan and Elise did regarding their outward appearance could find so much love and acceptance within each other. Elise was scarred from a car accident 10 years prior and had holed herself away from the world, fearing the public and their taunts and stares. Roan drank the monster punch 20 years prior and instead of being turned into a shifter, vampire, orc, or other manner of creature, he simply turned invisible.

Two lonely people terrified of others seeing them meet in a chat room, and for 6 months they communicate every day, their deepest conversations and lightest blending seamlessly until Elise decides that she's going to put herself out there and find out if their love online could work in person.

They overcome his fears of passing his condition on to her and are able to build something together. It was sweet, steamy, and downright adorable at some moments, especially watching them both overcome their fears of acceptance.

Seriously for an extremely short read, it was surprisingly good <3

Accidental spider in mouth scene

Roan (mmc, monster)
Elise (mfc, human)

Twenty years ago, the town had a Halloween party that changed everyone's life. Some turned into literal monsters, and others were filled with dark magic.
Roan got the curse of invisibility, but all gifts/ curses come with a cost. His is the inability to physically touch things that are soft or porous. They disappear if he does touch them. So he hasn't touched a human since the night he turned. He's been too afraid. Elise has been treated differently since a car wreck left her face and body scared. She gives him options and hope.

Monsters falling in love with humans is the basis of this series. It appears that most characters will be either v-card holders or have been celibate for several years. So far, it's been meet and fall into bed very soon after. Typical insta-love timeline, but it works well with this series.

Roan and Elise's Story . . .

An eccentric scientist in the woods brewed a potion that 18-year-old Roan Byrne drank at a Halloween party. It turned him invisible. Because they didn’t know if being around him would do this to others, he stays alone in the woods. He has remained alone for 20 years now, a monster.

Elise wishes she were invisible to hide the scars from an accident over one side of her face that makes people shun her. Roan wishes he wasn’t invisible so he can have his normal life back and not be forced to isolate himself and forever be unseen. He now knows his touch can turn objects invisible, so he has no choice. But one day, Roan is lonely and finds himself placing an ad for an online relationship requiring no visual contact, and Elise agrees. They enjoy each other’s friendship until Elise breaks the agreement and tries to meet him in his hometown. She already knows she loves him. Will he reject her? Will she accept his rejection? Or will she keep trying until they find a way to be together?

Love, sight unseen

This is the third book I've read in this multi author series and it's amazing! Set in a town full of "monsters," each book focuses on the humanity in feeling different and the healing power of love. This story is full of human drama and heart.

Roan and Elise meet online and form a relationship without ever seeing each other. This works for both of them because Roan is invisible thanks to drinking the punch at a Halloween party 20 years ago and Elise is scarred due to a car accident. They each have reasons for wanting to hide behind the anonymity of an online romance. Interestingly, since Roan lives in a town full of so called monsters, his invisibility is met with total acceptance and it's Elise in the real world who is treated like a freak by strangers. In spite of that, she's so brave with the way she goes to Roan. I absolutely loved this romance!

This is a safe read that does have some explicit language and sex. While it's part of a series, it's a complete standalone. I definitely recommend it!
