No other word could better describe Brio "Lilo" Valentino. He came into my life uninvited when something in my voice spoke to him.
A fragility that couldn’t mask the pain.
From the beginning, he warned me that we were different. He was darkness. I was light. His Lucila.
Despite our differences, we fit together perfectly, like a lock and key. I had no choice but to let him in. Once inside, he picked me up off the floor and gave me hope for a brighter future.
The thing about darkness and light, though? They always create shadows. And the bloody secrets between us followed us around, keeping us separated, until we were forced to face them.
Choices have consequences—and I wasn’t sure whether ours were ruthless enough to keep us apart forever.

I struggled through the whole book. I could not get into, but I was determined to finish it because of a few secrets that I wanted to know about.
I didn't like the fact we had alternate chapters every time concerning the present and the past. It made things so confusing to keep up. On top of that there were way too many side characters and events to keep track of. It felt like there were too many moving parts for what this book was trying to be. I could not care less about some of the sub-plots.
Both the MCs were frustrating. I didn't connect with either of them. It was all a jumbled mess tbh.
One good thing was how loyal he was to her even through the separation through those 4 years though we find out at the end for like a second he was in prison for 2 years of the 4 and that was never brought up unless I blacked out and ignored it? She never mentions at all that he went to prison and how that was for her in those 2 years when he was not around her, which was again so frustrating and bizarre.
We find out important things in passing sometimes and it frustrated me how it was just not connecting well together.
The only light in this whole book was Minnie and Carine and they were the only reason this book got 2 stars from me. Her death was sad, and it hurt even though you knew it was coming.
Also, I will not be reading Ava's book (the fmc's sister) as the preview we get at the end of the book for her own story, we see the uncle Lilo connects to at the end is killed and we find out Ava slept with him (her sister’s uncle in law) so yah not at all interested in continuing with this world.
Loved it! Ruthless Consequences is a heart-breaking story about true love being tested till breaking and it still finding its way in the end. Four years ago, Lilo and Lucilla broke on the eve of their wedding. Now, the Shadow Man watches Lucilla from the darkness that claimed him, forever keeping his eye on his light - whether she wants it or not. Tons of secret are unfolded and at points you can almost physically feel the pressure build from what lies between them. I loved how they complemented each other and the chemistry between them was super hot. The story did flip back and forth from the present to the past, but I'm glad since that part of their relationship really needed to be explained in detail, but it did make it move a bit slower at times. Overall, I really enjoyed the book and I can't wait to read Lucilla's sister's book next!
Ruthless Consequences by Bella Di Corte is the first book in the Vice City series and can be read as a standalone. It is told in first person, from dual perspective.
Mafia era UNLOCKED! This was a solid 3.5 for me. It would have been a 4 if it wasn’t for the dual time lines—I hate dual time lines lol. Other than that this was my first book from this author and I’m interested in reading more from her.

Review:
Ruthless consequences tells the story of love and heartbreak of Lucila and Lilo. I believe it was a love at first sight kind of story. Lilo feels the connection to Lucila even before he sets his eyes on her and decides to protect and take care of her.
If I had go describe this FMC with a word it would be “burdened”. It seemed all the responsibility for everyone’s mistakes and bad decisions fell on her shoulders and she did the right thing because she felt was her duty. I didn’t understand Lilo’s instant feelings for her. She was just this broken girl and he didn’t have time to really know her to justify such strong feelings. My favorite character was definitely Lilo and I admired his dedication. For Lucila I mostly just felt pity.
The chapters alternate between their two POVs and also it comes and goes from past yo present. We know something happened to break them up, and we get to know slowly how things got where they currently are. The series continues with Dangerous Obsession with the story of Ava and her obsession for danger.
*** I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. ***
Bella Di Corte writes mafia romance in the most hauntingly beautiful way. Ruthless Consequences is holding my heart captive. Lilo and Lucila's gut wrenching second chance romance was angsty and poetic perfection.
Lilo "Brio" Valentino lost everything four years back. He has been waiting in the dark underbelly of New York city and getting power in the organized crime world till the time is right. And he can no longer stay away from the love of his life, Lucila. But they have the debris of their destructive heartbreak standing between them. He won't stop at anything. Even when the enemy is trying to eliminate him.
I absolutely love how Bella Di Corte builds every character emotion by emotion. It's not about their love or passion only. It's about getting to know each character deeply. Their dreams. Their nightmares. Their desires. Their pain. You get completely immersed in their world and that makes the reading experience even more enjoyable. Lucila has a complex life. She didn't get #love from parents but she had plenty of love to give to her sisters. She is holding her brittle dysfunction family together by herself. Lilo came into her life like a storm. He gave her a safe space to be vulnerable, he protected her and he gave his everything but sometimes it is not enough. He has a darkness that needs Lucila's light. Lilo is an epic hero. His broken edges. His overwhelming love for Lilo. He is feared and respected in his violent world. He may be cold and merciless and unforgiving in his dark world but for Lucila, he is whole another person. Or probably the same one, because he loves Lucila with the same ferocity and intensity. The plot was complex and full of suspense. Ruthless Consequences will tug at your heartstrings and also keep you on the edge till the very last page. Bella Di Corte's writing is undoubtedly the asset of this epic love story.
Ruthless Consequences is the first book in the Vice City series and this was a legit mafia book.
This book follows the up-and-down relationship of Lilo and Lucila. They met at a young age and knew they were meant for each other from the moment they met. Lilo is known as the Shadow Man and he is also my new book boyfriend. He is dark when he needs to be and light when he wants to be. He has this soft side to him that only Lucila sees, which makes your heart melt. Lucila had a rough upbringing, but she persevered. Being the oldest of three, she was a mother figure to her younger sisters. Constantly feeling like she had the weight of the world on her shoulders, she hid her coping mechanism from the outside. Lilo balances Lucila. Lucila balances Lilo.
There was A LOT of story and character development in the first half of the book. It read slow for me as it bounces from the past to present. However, once everything was explained, the book pace picked up. It was an action-packed mafia lovestory! I really thought it was going to end on a cliffhanger, but Bella Di Corte didn't disappoint! Whew!
Overall, if you enjoy mafia like I do, then you need to read this book!

Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶🌶 Written in first person duel POV
I love dark romances. I absolutely love when men are so obsessed with their female that they’d literally do anything for them. There’s nothing better, to me, than a man willing to bust knees yet is still a family man. Lilo is that and so much more. I adored his character and everything he did to keep his family safe.
Bella Di Corte is a new author for me. I truly enjoyed her world building. There’s so many characters and players. I was so invested in everything and everyone. I can’t wait to see what where she takes us with Ava’s sorry.
The reason for 4 stars is because I’m not the biggest fan of when the chapters go from past to present. I’ll put down the book, then when I pick it up I get confused and have to go back to see if I’m in the past or not. The story at times seemed to go a little slow for me, but otherwise the plot was amazing.
From the first moment Lilo laid eyes on Lucila he knew she was the one. Her beautiful voice when singing mesmerized him. Then he lost her. After four years he was determined to win her back. Obstacles were thrown in their path testing their relationship but their bond was too strong. A beautifully written second chance at love will pull o your heartstrings.
First of all, I don't like second chance AND long separation tropes, but I wanted to give this Bella di Corte book a chance. Secondly, the author switches constantly between past and present, hero and heroine chapters. So disruptive. I would have preferred to first read the chapters on the past and then come to the present. Third: the hero feels very much drawn to the underworld, his family are good working class Italian immigrants, the heroine is rather repulsed by his darkness. And herein lies the problem. In the end, I need a heroine who loves the hero fully, including his darkness or even because of it. And last, I didn't finish the book, was too bored, but from what I've garnered is that the hero doesn't have a big standing in the mafia underworld. And let's be honest, mafia life is shitty if you aren't in the higher ranks, especially in guilty pleasure romance escapism. So all in all I was too bored and too disrupted between the jumping chapters. Not recommendable. DNF
I enjoyed this one quite a bit. The drama was okay, wasn't a huge fan of past and present ping pong writing tho. Anyway, I'm too sleepy to write anything rn but I want to write something and if I procrastinate I would end up not writing anything. Anyway, Brio or Lilo was a hot.
Ruthless Consequences by Bella Di Corte is the First book in the Vice City Series. This is the story of Lilo and Lucila. Lilo knew from the first sight that Lucila would be his. But, they where pulled apart for a few years but Lilo never stopped watching over her. Lucila hasn't had a easy life and after her mother left the family she has taken over raising her younger sister. Then her father gets in trouble and she is the one that is having to pay the price to fix. This starts their story. Loved this book and I am a huge fan of Ms. Di Corte's writing. I highly recommend both.
“We’re at a crossroads, Lucila.” “That’s because you won’t let me go!” “Not even after I’m dead.”
A beautiful and tortured second chance love story. Beautiful is the love between the young Lucila and Lilo. Tortured are the memories of one another still running through their veins.
Lilo, named Brio. A proud name from his amazing mother. Carine, a mother who tried for so many years to get him and his father to meet in the middle. She tried music to get him out of his violent ways. Michele, his father runs a bakery, he is the American dream. Runs an honest and proud business and is against everything mafia stands for. Lilo is making a name for himself in the neighborhood and is becoming increasingly important to the mafia. Not only is he big and violent, he is smart. He truly is a weapon that one in particular wants to control.
It’s insta love that I was here for. Includes both POV’s and flashbacks btw the past and present.
Lucila was all light, fight, and vulnerability, with a voice that drew everyone in. In particular Lilo when he comes home and finds her singing while his mother plays the piano. On their way to starting a new life, until blood was shed.
The author describes them as Light and Dark. Who meet in the shadows. Their kiss, their Coney Island, his brutality, their sex, it was all so vivid. Their passion when he played the piano and she sang, the past and present memories colliding between the music, was where the author shined. Bella Di Corte was writing their soundtrack. A song I want to play on repeat.
Lucila’s strength was extraordinary. Yes she didn’t fight wildly, but she fought against the hurt and chose to love. There she was taking care of others, smiling through so much pain, enjoying one pleasure chocolate. Well before Lilo gets a hold of her, to touch her, kiss her, lick her, fuck her. oof.
It’s dangerous, it’s figuring out what life do you want to make for yourself when now you have so much to live for. That love can serve as a catalyst to make your way in this world through blood, sweat, and tears.
I loved the chaos and excitement of the final scene.
Is there a Bella Di Corte story I don't love? Absolutely NOT. Can't say it any plainer than that!
Bella has a poetic way of writing. I don't mean her stories are poems, only that she has such a beautiful way of describing emotions, that she brings what's written on paper (or e-reader) to life. YOU FEEL EVERYTHING!
Her characters and stories are so vivid. They become more than characters in books we're reading. The become family and friends whose story we live. Ones we love; ones we laugh and cry with, grieve and rejoice with, are brave and fearful with; ones who stay with us long after we've finished reading and will want to revisit again and again! I have! (Already read this one twice, back to back!)
This woman can write a story! And this one is no different! It is typical Bella... An amazing story with all the feels and all the wonderful, lifelike characters. For those who have read Bella's Fausti Family Saga, you will love the references, tidbits and mentions in this story related to the Fausti's. If you haven't read it, don't worry. You won't lose anything from not having read it (except maybe some time and money because you'll want to buy the Fausti Family Saga and read it after this to learn who they are; and then you'll want to re-read this one again!)
Honestly, I'm hoping Bella will treat us to more of Lilo and Lucila. I want to know what happens after; where they go, what they do and more. Whether she gives it to to us a a sequel, a novella or even part of her sister Ava's story, I don't care...I just want more. And Ava, oh does she have a story to tell! Will it be with Tegran? Matteo or another Fausti? Someone new? I sincerely hope Bella has Ava on her TBW (to be written) list!
I received an advanced reader copy of this story for an honest review, but I have already pre-ordered the anthology this story will first appear in and I will definitely purchase the solo book for my library when it is release on it's own. If Bella's name is on it, I buy it!
I should have known this was going to be good because Bella Di Corte was the author of this new Mafia series. Brando and Scarlett Fausti are my favorite mafia couple and the Fausti family is definitely royalty to me. I loved this love story it was sad and then it was fast moving and very exciting, it's a mafia story remember, and it has the Fausti family mentioned throughout the story. This is the story of Brio Tigran Valentino and his soul mate Lucila Girardi. Lucila has two sisters Ava a year or so younger and then after their mother Janis leaves them a lady drops off this little baby named Minnie and Lucila took care of her like she was hers, besides she looked her father, and they said it was his child. Then there was her father Sonny who was grieving the loss of his wife who left him for a life of freedom to have sex with whomever she wanted and wherever she wanted. She wanted to travel the world and be free to have sexual partners. So, Lucila's father was in the house, but he rarely cared what they were doing so it would seem. Their friend down the street, Molly took care of them especially Minnie while they were in school because Minnie had learning problems, but Lucila loved her and raised her as if she was her own. Then there is Brio aka "Lilo" Valentino. Lilo became a product of the streets because he had so much happened on the inside of him and nowhere to direct the inner workings to. They met each other when she was young and was sent to his mother Carine's for help because the counselor said there was things that Lila needed to work out what was going on, on the inside of her, she was broken and so Carine was a piano teacher and taught music. Lila had a beautiful voice and so she had Lila sing to help redirect her brokenness. Lila would not eat also. She would only eat chocolate bars. So we have these two broken young people who are drawn to each other. This is the beginning of the story. This story has sex, romance and violence because after all this is a mafia story, it is centered around family. Marchele is Lilo's father, and they have a love hate relationship. Carine his mother is the buffer between husband and son. This story had so much happened even in the beginning sometimes I had to read the chapter again to make sure I wasn't missing something. I loved this mafia romance story, and I would highly recommend this series. At the end we get a sneak peek at what is going to happen with Ava, Lucila's sister, I am excited to read the next book in this series.
What an intricate weaving of facts this story is, through interesting and fast-paced scenes, and quite unique. This book is told by both lead characters, Lilo and Lucila, as well as being told in two-time frames. A little confusing you say? Well, yes and no, at times it was a little, even though you did know what was happening but believed me each piece of the puzzle is carefully plotted to be placed exactly where it needs to be. I found this word crafting absolutely brilliant and the drama outstanding. It enables readers to be armed with enough facts to gain an understanding of the story, then bit by bit learn more with twists thrown in, but not in the usual manner, so yes—unique.
Lucila and Lilo are both likable characters, I found Lucila to be so giving and kind that at times it could be detrimental to her. For someone so young she had an older person’s view on life, I think because she’d been through so much. Lilo too was caring and absolutely adored two women, his mother, and Lucila. He was a caring man in other ways too, and even though involved with the underworld, he was a man of his word and always tried to be honest.
There were so many exciting and nerve-wracking times in the story when I literally sat up on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what would happen next. Lots of emotions were expressed by the characters and quite frankly for them by me, too. A fantastic ending seals this book as top-notch and definitely 5 stars.

Brio “Lilo” Valentino is a man that loves his mother and tolerates his father, but his father tolerates him too. The only thing that brings father and son together is Carine, Brio’s mother. She’s a woman with a big heart that helps out troubled youth by teaching them music. His father runs the family bakery that has been open since his grandfather moved to America to live the American dream. Lilo is intense and ruthless. He’s a dangerous man and if you cross him, you’ll learn just how ruthless he is.
Lucila Girardi is a young girl trying to hide from the pain and memory of loss. She copes with a strange mechanism and when she is referred to Carine Valentino for music lessons, her eyes are opened, and a new path is formed for her. Better than the darkness she was slipping into or is it. When Lucila and Lilo meet for the first time, it’s like no one else is present. He’s dark and she’s light.
This was a tragic, beautiful story of two people finding each other, going through terrible pain, going their own ways, and then finding each other again. It’s tragic, painful, heart wrenching, and action packed. The life that Lilo lives is not for the faint hearted and when his whole world is threatened, he will stop at nothing to protect his family and Lucila. These two have a lot to go through and overcome but in the end, they were made for each other, and their tragedies bring them closer together. I love the characters and the story. Ava is a wildcard, and I can’t wait to read her book. I give this book a 5-star review and look forward to the next book in the series.
This book was NOT what I was expecting at all. There will be some spo iler ish con tent in this review! First, it doesn't feel like an actual maf book with lots of action. You're led to believe the main guy, Brio, but yet he's called Lilo and the explanation why makes no sense, and frankly it's confusing with the main females name being a L name too, is supposed to be some scary underworld guy. But you don't get to see any of that really. There is SO MUCH back and forth because it's a second chance book, which I'm not a fan of anyhow. But seriously half of the first half of the book is seems like it's scenes from their past. Then when it comes down to it, their reason for being apart is not believable. Sure she had an event happen, but most people would at least have a conversation. There's no real explanation or details to things. You get bits here and there that are like oh okay... like he went to jail for two years, but did he not write letters? What did she do those years? She's wrote like she should have some real mental illness / anguish, but it's never properly addressed or unveiled during the book. At one point there's a big dog, but then that's it. Like what was the point? In general it wasn't smooth, it was all over the place, the reasoning didn't seem compelling enough and I didn't love any of the characters. It was long and super wordy, but yet you didn't go anywhere really. A lot of space filler. And the preview for Ava's book? Not okay choices! You don't off someone's family member to then think the heroine will join your family. It was a bad choice for that to happen with Tig. Unbelievable.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. It is said that first love is always alive and lives in your heart always. Well Brio Valentino aka Lilo and Lucila Girardi epitomised these very words. From the moment Lilo laid eyes on Lucila, he recognised her as the light to his darkness. The one and only woman meant for him. This he showed by his actions towards her. As fate would have it though, his many attempts to prevent his world from crossing over to hers ended on a bad note. The dangers from his world along with tragic events led to their separation. However, the situation which tore them apart would reunite them.
Lucila had a problematic past. Forced to grow up early to care for her siblings. She engaged in abnormal eating habits. She has come a long way since then and has proven to be resilient.
Brio has connections to the mafia, but he didn’t take an oath and he is not a made man. He marches to his own tune. Dubbed the Shadow Man, first by the love of his life, then by his acquaintances for the way he took out his targets.
Lucila and Brio’s story was an absolute delight. Told from alternate POV and moving between past and present, the story sucked me in. Soon I became completely invested in the lives of the characters. Corte gave us a firsthand look into their lives. The reader shared in their pain, disappointments, challenges and triumphs. Their chemistry was undeniable, and the love they had for each other permeated the pages. It warmed my heart to see how their relationship in the past developed and their separation broke it. Learning the reason for the separation made it worse. Working their way back to each other came with many challenges. Watching them work through their issues and overcoming challenges proved a delight.
Wow 5🌟 for me, again another book that emotionally attached me to the Characters, consequences of reading one of Bella’s books. Mafia Romance’s well written and captivating combined with charm and enchantment. This book will play with your heart strings with a surprise twist. This will also lead us into Ava’s story, Lucila sister who is Fausti hunting.
Lilo (Brio) and Lucila is a story of loss, four yrs have passed, now the time is right for Brio to claim Lucila again. He will not stop, now he is ready to take on the who ever stands in his way.
Brio: vigor or vivacity of style or performance.

Ruthless Consequences is the first book in the Vice City series. The book centers around the tremendous relationship of Lilo and Lucila. They met at a young age and knew they were meant for one another. Lilo is known as the Shadow Man. He is dark and dangerous. Building a name and reputation for himself on the wrong side of the law. He is someone you don’t want to mess with. But when it comes to Lucila she gets to see and fell his softer side. That is only reserved for her. Lucila had a rough upbringing. No mother and a present father who is actually not present at all. She carries the worry and burden of her sisters and her absent father on her own. She and Lilo have a once in a lifetime type of love. That was unbreakable. Until it broke. The story is detailed and description filled. I felt like I was living and a part of Lilo and Lucila’s world. It’s told in past and present and dual pov. Loved that because I got to witness and feel what was going on in each characters mind. And the past and present was like putting together a puzzle. Each piece slowly coming together to give a complete picture. The book is action packed. It’s sexy and steamy. Any everything I expect from a mafia book. This is my second read by this amazing author. Ms. Di Corte is brilliant at mafia love stories. And so far she has knocked it out of the ballpark for me! She is now a must read and a one click author and definitely one of my top favorites!
Lilo lost everything four years back, including the love of his life, Lucila. He's been gaining power while waiting on the right time to make his move in order to get his life back, and the love of his life, Lucila. It's been torture for him to be lying in wait because he can't interact with her, and yet, he's still been a little part of her life without her knowing. There's so much pain in these pages as these two star crossed lovers have suffered a great deal while apart. Of course with his rising power in the mafia world, there's also a great deal of danger that had the twists coming in hot, and trust me, Lilo will burn the world down for his girl. I was on the edge of my seat the whole way through because the crumbs hinting at the big picture kept me all kinds of jacked up. I don't want to say a lot about this story, because I would never want to actually give anything away, so trust me, this review has barely scratched the surface of everything I experienced. I can't wait for more of this new series, and HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
So much angst! I just wanted them to be together but it was worth the wait. Those reveals really got me! Lilo and Lucila happen to meet through his mother. For him, it was love at first sight. His darkness sought her light.
Her life hasn't always been easy. Her mother walked out on the family. She blames her father. Lucila is raising a half-sister that was dumped on their doorstep. And Lilo hurts her in a way she never expected.
In the present, she works at his father's bakery and still has dinner with his family on Sunday nights. She still lives with her father taking care of her sister. One night a man comes to the house demanding her father's debts be paid. She agrees to work at his nightclub to help pay off his debt.
She doesn't want Lilo to find out. But they're suddenly spending more time around each other. They still love each other deeply. But will it be enough to keep them together?
Thank you so much to the author and Wildfire for this ARC to review. Working on review

Ruthless Consequences by @Bella Di Corte is hands down one of the best mafia Romance I've ever read. All the secrets in between and love tests give it all that thrill that makes the readers fall more in love with the book and its characters.❤
Ruthless Consequences is a second chance, mafia romance about Lilo and Lucila. It goes back and forth between present and four years prior when everything changed for them. Lucila is the oldest of 3, and her mom ran off when she was young. I felt for her, it seemed like everything fell on her shoulders and she took responsibility for others mistakes. Lilo was drawn to her from the moment he saw her. He was there for her and loved her. But because of certain actions, he loses her. After everything happens, he still watches her, protects her. She’s everything to him. But 4 years later, he’s determined to get her back! This was a good second chance love story. This couple went through a lot and both suffered heartache, but they were eventually able to get their HEA. I loved the ending, it was perfect!
This is the first in a new series, and this is Brio / Lilo and Lucila’s story. The moment that Lilo laid eyes on Lucila, he knew she was the one for him, and he may be ruthless, but she brings out his softer and possessive side. Life happens and they do not see each other again for 4-years, but she is the light to his darkness. Lucila has not had an easy life, and she is raising her half sister alone. No spoilers, this is a story which needs to be read, and it flits between the past and the present giving a better understanding to this storyline. This is a well written story which is raw, gritty, and emotionally charged, with secrets, challenges, family, angst, second chances, intrigue, and love, which leads to a compelling page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
