A school for the magically gifted should be safe for those who are different, but dark secrets are hiding around every corner.
The Obelisk Academy is a hidden sanctuary for those who can use magic, and a new year is starting. It should be an opportunity to learn and grow, but for a few of the least privileged, it becomes a nightmare. A headmistress and other students are determined to not only lock them out of their education, but sometimes it seems like their very lives are in danger.
During an assignment, this group of strong students uncovers ancient secrets and an evil so great that they must stop it at all costs or risk the end of magic forever.
With no one in their corner and no one to trust, they must weed out those helping this grave darkness and learn how to defend themselves against what's to come.

Jennifer Wedmore is a native of Florida, a wife, mom of three and now an author. Her journey in writing started with a bit of good-natured peer pressure. Growing up her goal was to be known as eccentric and she hopes that is evident in her stories. Why choose one genre when she can play in several?
This is an academy story that introduces us to 10 scholarship students, some of whom don't feel like they are very “gifted'' but they did manage to get into a school for the magically gifted. They begin the story at the bottom of their peers but end up being super important for everyone's survival. There is a headmistress that has odd rules that favor the rich, privileged students and allows them to do anything they want to the scholarship students. If they try to retaliate or protect themselves they are put in isolation or kicked out. This causes the outcasts to decide to protect one another, even if they don’t yet trust one another completely. They are puzzling out each other and becoming the family some have never had, but there is an evil coming and they're not prepared. This was an interesting read, with enough drama to keep you guessing until the cliffhanger. Would be appropriate for YA or tween readers as well.

This is an interesting read and I cannot wait for more. This drama will keep you guessing throughout and the cliffhanger is fantastic. All of the characters will keep you guessing throughout with the intrigue and mystery. I never knew what was going to happen. You could tell that the kids were going to become a tightly knit unit right away that was powerful but otherwise everything else was up in the air.

I enjoyed this academy story that stars 10 scholarship students who begin the story at the bottom of their peers but end up being super important for everyone's survival. But how it all happens was the plot of this story with interesting students and instructors I spent most of the book trying to figure out which side they really were on. A few surprises, lots of fighting the bad evil, and trying to survive it all. A bit of mystery and suspense and magic.
Some of them don't feel like they are very gifted, but they have managed to get into a school for the magically gifted. If the dark secrets are exposed, what could the fall out be? Can these lesser privileged students band together? Or will they be divided? I enjoyed reading about this interesting group of students, their struggles and the mystery/suspense of their tale.

Probably only 3 1/2 stars. Couldn’t really get into this book at the beginning if it wasn’t an ARC I would have given up on it. It did improve, it has a good base story and the character and location descriptions are good, I just felt it repeated itself quite a bit and I don’t like books written from multiple perspectives. The ending was quite a cliffhanger leading into the next book.

this was what I was hoping for based on the description. I had a great time reading this and it worked as a beginning. I enjoyed the Ancient Obelisk Ternion Season 1 and am excited to see where this series will go.

We have a academy story about ten scholarship students, that the headmistress does everything to discourage. The Rich students are able to do alot. What will happen when the rich need the bottom kids? Will they beat the evil? I had a hard time reading this book due to it not being edited yet.

A head mistress that has odd rules that favors rich, privileged students and allows them to do anything they want to the scholarship students. If they try to retaliate or protect themselves they put in isolation or kicked out. The outcast have decided to protect one another but not yet trust one another completely. They are figuring out one another and becoming a sort of family some have never had. There is a Evil coming and they're not prepared. The only ones that seems to notice something is off is this group of 10. Someone within is helping and they are being targeted. This could also be read by pre teens and younger. I received this book from Booksprout and voluntarily reviewed it. 4.8🌟
