God, what a disappointment. This was a Stuff Your Kindle freebie, and I wanted to love it. I honestly enjoyed aspects of it. Yes, it's got some pretty significant plot holes. Yes, the heroine does some too-stupid-to-live things. Yes, it's completely unbelievable that if the abuse she was suffering was so severe, no one noticed (and she was up and moving around with ease). Yes, it's unbelievable that the mind-reading drake didn't know exactly what she was up to. All true. But it was still silly, fluffy fun. I would have happily said it was a three-star, nothing serious read. But good lord, the editing. I can't figure out how more people haven't mentioned it in previous reviews. Maybe they were all pre-publication and thought the problems would get fixed before it went to print. Maybe they're fake, IDK. But the fact that it's not been mentioned by more people is...odd because it's a significant issue.
Look, it's one thing to not pick up on the occasional homophone, missing word, or if the spellcheck didn't catch the use of 'up' instead of 'us.' But this book has characters who speak telepathically. This is indicated by italics, with no quotation marks or dialogue tag. But in the last 1/4 of the book, the italics just stop. So, you have dialogue with nothing to indicate it as so. In the first 3/4 of the book, there are several instances of dialogue being italicized, along with the next 3 or 4 paragraphs of the narrative. It's clear the author simply forgot to turn italics off.
Now, I'm usually pretty forgiving about editing. It's easy enough to miss the small stuff, even repeatedly. But if no one is noticing multiple instances of several paragraphs of erroneous italicization, then no one read this book after the first draft, not even the author, and that's unforgivable. Thank god it was free. I'd be incensed if I'd paid for it.
The thing is, I liked the story (as ridiculous as it was). I liked that the heroine was deaf. I liked her snark and that she refused to be a perpetual victim. I liked that one of the important men is visibly marred. I liked the dragon-men and world. I might have even read the next one. But I'm not willing to pay for someone's drafts.
Princess Georgia is desperate. Her kingdom is poor. They have no army. They're being attacked. And her father just arranged a marriage for her. He meant well. He chose someone wealthy enough to bolster their kingdom and handsome to boot. He just didn't realize he was a sadistic jerk who liked knives. Now she has to save her kingdom and herself.
Spoilers ahead. This was recommended to me by a friend. I'm hearing impaired and always enjoy finding books where the MCs aren't perfect. A deaf princess? Bring it! Only, she goes spying a lot and I don't know how she doesn't alert who she's spying on because she can't hear if she's breathing too loud, scuffed her feet, or any number of ways she could accidentally give away what she's doing. She also tolerates being carved by her fiance and his brother. Trigger warnings for both of them cutting her and threatening r*pe. Which wasn't warned about in the blurb. Due to her wanting to break the betrothal I figured abuse but not to that level. Not without some sort of warning. Georgia ducks out in the night, hoping to find the drakes- a people that cause fear, to help her. But I didn't get the sense there were all that many of them. And she didn't abandon her plan, even when she realized he could pick up on her thoughts. She also didn't seem worried about the other women in the castle being hurt by the brothers when she left. Also, princesses tend to be guarded. Why did no one worry over her? No one heard her screaming? The laundress never saw any bloody clothes from staunching the bleeding? No healer saw a drop in salve supply as Georgia would have tried to prevent infection? This was a very shaky feeble plot and what little (and heavily forced) steam added didn't exactly fill the plot holes. But of all my complaints, the lack of warnings is the major cause of lower stars.
Interesting story and unique world building BUT the editing and grammar are horrible. Drakes use mind speech and when it was first introduced the author used italics for mind speech and regular font for everything else. Cool, easy to understand.
Then mid book the author uses italics for a bunch of non mind speech stuff then the chapter after she abandons using italics altogether leaving the reader to figure it out on their own. A lot of really childish type of plot things happening plus it is implied this will be a ménage but it is really not set up well for that to happen. Also this first book is totally incomplete, even for a book in a series. There’s not enough action and character motivations don’t make sense. For example, her betrothed has no problem cutting her up with knives or branding her but never does anything sexual. I would not recommend this series. I started book 2 but so much eye rolling going on that I am abandoning it all. This author needs to pay for a professional proofreader. Its like she finished the draft and never looked at it again, just publishing it as it is. There are so many proofreading errors that could have easily been caught. Also weird how many POVs she tries to squeeze in.
I enjoyed the concept of this plot. At first it had a hold on me. I felt for the FMC and wanted the bad guy dead so bad. Then we went to the dragons and it was like the FMC became SO stupid. I wanted to punch her in the face, kind of stupid. It ends very suddenly and you need to read book two to know what’s happens with the bad guy. But I just don’t think I can. I didn’t hate this story and just couldn’t get passed the FMC shit.
I collect Alice in Wonderland editions and retellings. So, once I stumbled into the Reverse Harem and indie published world I also discovered the Wonderland inspired books by Erin Bedford. It was the moment I fell in love with her writing, her storytelling and the fantasy worlds she creates. I'm therefore always very excited when I get an e-mail from BookSprout to tell me that a new review copy is available! And I was especially looking forward to this one! That cover is gorgeous!
And damn! The first few chapters of this book were quite heavy! I was glad that Bedford didn't go into too many details, because already the summary of what had happened made me quite sick. However, it also made it easy to believe why the heroine in this story decided to take a leap of faith and to search for help in a very unlikely place. If you're desperate and really have something to fight for, fear is no longer an obstacle.
I personally would have loved to see and learn much more about the politics of the Monsters. It felt like we got a glimpse of their society but since they didn't really trust our heroine yet it feels like there has to be more to discover. Or maybe there is not, which would hopefully give everyone a reason to fight. Because if you're just surviving and not really living, what's life worth? I can't wait to see how that will all play out!
Just like I'm really curious about the romance and how it will develop. In this book it's clear that the connection between our heroine and her monster is more lust than really love. However, by the end of the book a lot of cards are on the table, which means that there might also be room for the characters to start building a more emotional connection. I absolutely can't wait to see that happen, because it's very clear the spark is there!
It's a really addictive first book and I can't wait to get more!
Tropes: ➡️ Several love interests (I think the series is a reverse harem but not in this book) 🐉 Possessive but adorable dragons mates 🫦 He marks her as his 🔥 Fiercy and curvy FMC with disability (deaf) 🩸 "Who did this to you"

~ STORY & PLOT 📝 ~ Recipe to Courting her Monsters : - 4 cup of good fantasy plot - 1 hella strong heroine - 3 sexy dragons - 2 tbs of spice - 1 pinch of angst
And let it steam for 174 pages. ⏲️
Seriously, it was so easy to read and I loved how it was written. The pace is fast and the story short but nothing felt rushed. I also very much appreciated that it isn't insta-love.
There's clear attraction between all the MCs but nothing so uncontrollable that it's cringe or feels unnatural.
Also, I was surprised by how cinnamon rolls the MMCs were! It's cute I like it. 🥰
~ SPICE 🌶️ ~ The spice is good with no special kinks. The dragon king knows how to use his tail among other things tho 😏.
There are only a few scenes but I think it was the right amount considering the size of the book, and also more of it wouldn't have made much sense or would have rushed the story. 🤷🏽♀️
Oh my god! This is the start of what is going to be another bloody amazing series. I absolutely fell in love with Ryu and absolutely hated Cal and Lu, evil doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel about them which just goes to show how brilliantly written this book is. To feel such disgust and hate for 2 fictional characters in only a few chapters is the work of a genius. The book finished too quickly! I was so involved in what I was reading I honestly didn’t realise that it was the last word until I reread it a couple of times. Need to have the next book in my hands immediately! Trust me you will regret it if you don’t read this book.

Courting her monsters is the first book in a new serie by Erin Bedford.
Georgia have a big problem and she's gonna need help if she wants to solve it. For this help, she's gonna need to play a part of a prisonner and hoping that Ryu will accepts or risking her life. But if she not risking something she might as well be already dead. For her kingdom she will do anything.
I have really loved this book and with the cliffhanger it left us with, can't wait to read the second one in the serie.

When she finds out what Cal is like and who she is to marry to combined their kingdoms. What will she do? Will she leave or stay? Will she get the Drakes help or will she end up suffering more?.

Really enjoyed this book. I like how determined Georgia is to protect her people and how being deaf hasn't broken her spirit.
Ryu is your typical alpha male but I love how he is with Georgia. I'm waiting to be won over by his brothers though so hopefully they have more dialogue in the next book!
Can't wait for the next installment, just wish each book was a little longer!.

georgia is a princess who is deaf. her people are struggling and she is hoping to marry to help out her kingdom/people. when she meets her betrothed him and his brother are vile and she refuses to be stuck to him for life.
so she runs off and meets the dragon king and tries to see if he will help. dragons are their enemies, but georgia isn’t scared of them..
this ended on such a cliff hanger and I NEED THE NEXT BOOK ASAP PLZ!!!
Twist and turns at every turn. Who is the true monster? The prince is evil, the princess desperate and the monster caring. Now waiting is the game till book 2 is released and YES, I will be continuing the series. I'm very interested in how the confrontation will play out.
This is book one of The Monsters You Know and the main character is Princess Georgia of Kinkos, who is being pushed into an arranged marriage to help save her kingdom. Her father has been weakened after the death of his wife, the Queen, three years ago from an illness that spread through the kingdom and others, which also took Georgia’s hearing from her. She has been left in a world of silence ever since, with her father and staff in the palace learning sign language to help her communicate, but she hasn’t used her voice much, with nearly everyone treating her differently now. A prince from one of the neighbouring kingdoms, Plumus, has come to Kinkos looking for her hand in marriage. Prince Callahan (Cal) has come with his brother Luis (Lu), and all Georgia can hope is that he is kind and won’t ignore her as being broken. She would marry a drake if they would treat her with respect and save her kingdom from ruin. But she soon finds her betrothed is far crueller than she could have ever expected. He and his brothers are monsters who are treating her as their prisoner, pushing her mind and body, knowing she can’t tell her father or their kingdom will be overrun. Only her handmaiden, Aryn, has seen what these men have been doing to her. Aryn wants her to tell her father, but doing that Georgia knows, will leave their kingdom in ruin and open to other kingdoms overrunning them.
Overhearing the two brothers speaking late one night, with Georgia lip reading and Aryn hearing what was said, they both find out exactly what diabolical plans the prince and his brother have for her and her father, as well as their kingdom, and even the drakes! Georgia can only think of one option being left open to her and that is to ride into the forests where the drakes are thought to live and see if she can get in front of the king of the drakes and ask for his help. It won’t quite be as easy as she had hoped and she may wonder if she has escaped one set of monsters, to be with another. She offers herself to the drakes for the sake of her kingdom and the king decides to push her to see exactly what she means by that and she is separated from her handmaiden. She worries about what exactly she has let herself in for, but does find herself attracted to the king, Ryu, and his two brothers, Ira and Desmond. She also wonders where Aryn has been taken, but soon finds her with the female drakes, who keep separate from the male drakes for safety from the males and have a lot more power over them than she expected. They are as fierce as the male drakes, knowing how to fight and taking multiple males to boost the chances of having young. Something that is completely different in Georgia’s normal world. Ryu finds himself becoming more and more intrigued with the feisty princess and is shocked at what Cal and Lu have done to her. He is wary of what she truly wants from him and his people and will test her, to find out the truth. So much more to come from this cracking storyline and I can’t wait to read the next one, as it draws you in and makes you want more.
I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
This was a Stuff Your Kindle Day freebie so I really can't be that upset about it plus I went into it blind and I should not have. This book could have been so much better. The story line had so much potential and I think because of that thought process of mine I was a little generous in my rating.
From this point on this review will have spoilers please continue reading at your own discretion.
Trigger warnings for this book includes rape and extreme physical and emotional abuse.
The world building was unique and overall pretty good. The MFC, Princess Georgia, is desperate to help her struggling kingdom and will do anything to help them which is admirable but man do I wish she would have spoken up and not kept silent.
Her father means well arranging a marriage for her with the prince of a strong wealthy kingdom and was completely oblivious to the abuse the prince and his brother were already putting his daughter through the second they met her. It's a good premise for the enemy of the story. Princess Georgia is determined to still help her kingdom but not the way her father plans to, she sneaks out to find the Drakes, a clan of dragons that are said to be the most dangerous in the world. She's deaf and the dragon king can read her thoughts and speak to her with his, great story-line set up already.
She plans to force the dragons to help her and save her kingdom but keeps it a secret some how through the whole book even though the drake king can read her mind? I have a hard time believing she did not once think about it while the king was around her?
Lastly biggest complaint is the editing, I can forgive editing errors in Stuff Your Kindle Day books to an extent, but this was so bad. When the drake king talks using his mind its notated with italics, which is great I love that but then somewhere along the lines it just stops? You cannot tell when the drake king and princess Georgia are speaking through their minds halfway through the books because italics are being used for things other than the mind communication and not being used at all for that aspect of the story.
There are also a ton of different POV's the author tried to squeeze into the book, which don't get me wrong I love a good multi-POV story but this was just done poorly in my opinion.
I love the plot line and the overall idea of this story it had so much potential and I was throughly disappointed in the execution of it. I will most likely not read the rest of the series.

Georgia is a deaf princess, betrothed to a handsome prince from another kingdom in order to create an alliance between their people. Upon meeting her new fiancé, Georgia is horrified to learn that him and his brother are sadists who cut and carve her body to 'break her' before the wedding. Fleeing their torture and desperate to save her kingdom from their horrific plot, she and her handmaid seek out the Drakes hidden deep in the forests of her kingdom. Desperate to have the Drake King's help to save her kingdom, Georgia plans to seduce him... and is inexplicitly drawn to him.
This was not a bad read overall. With some spice throughout the plot, it was very intriguing, but I would check the trigger warnings before diving into this because there are themes of sexual assault and violence, as well as other forms of nonconsensual sexual content.
Even though the plot was mostly enjoyable, I did struggle halfway through with numerous grammatical and editing errors. During a few chapters towards the end, all the of "mind-speaking/telepathy" was not italicized, despite it being italicized the entirety of the book leading up to it. It was a bit confusing for a moment, as it occurs suddenly and then a few chapters later resolves itself. There were a few other errors scattered through the text, but thankfully they were not overwhelming, just a little noticeable.
I did really enjoy the fact that Georgia is deaf and has to communicate through sign-language and reading lips. I think the author did well conveying this, especially during parts when characters were not facing her directly and she was unable to understand what they were saying without an interpreter, via her handmaid. (09/2023)
Not a bad series opening, but there were flaws that were forgotten to be considered in the plot, and unfortunately with each one I realized my enthusiasm lowered a bit. Georgia is a brave but deaf princess that learned to live with her handicap and found a way around. Yet now that she is supposed to marry a brutal and cruel prince to help her kingdom, she needs a desperate plan. Running to the drakes, she tries to seduce the king to secure his help - but that's not without a risk either. I welcomed the chance to read a steamy PNR with a deaf heroine, yet exactly Georgia's part wasn't handled well when it comes to details. No one noticing the princess going missing (she escaped way too easily), hearing her screams when abused (she is deaf, not mute), or hear her sneaking around (she can't assess if she is quiet enough). The romance part is a rollercoaster, sometimes steamy sometimes full of annoyance on both sides. With the cliffhanger at the end though, I'd be interesting how this can develop further.
I absolutely fell in love with this book! ** will include spoilers ** So lets start from the beginning, I absolutely love that the MC is deaf and everything that revolves around it. To me, it truly makes this book stand out amongst many others. The story line and plot are really interesting in my opinion and had me hooked! I do wish there was more world building in the very beginning of the book, I did find myself having to reread things to make sure I understood lol but it truly got better once she met with the drakes and entered their world! I love seeing Georgia's character development! Going from a timid scared abused girl, to a woman taking charge and doing whats needed to be done! (Although, withstanding the abuse from Cal and Lou made her far from weak in the beginning). I hope we see more of Ira and Desmond although I know they don't play too much of role, Obviously Ryu is the Main Character Daddy ✨ but they truly were enjoyable! Can't wait to see how everything turns out in the next book(s)

This was an awesome series opener and an intense read. Princess Georgia was a fab fmc - deaf from an illness, she found a way to thrive in her kingdom. However, she got matched to a rather evil fellow with nefarious plans for her and her people. After torture and abuse by him and his brother, she fled in the night to get help from an unlikely source - the Drakes. These people were descendants of dragons so they were unusual looking and considered monsters by most humans. King Ryu was a perfect specimen of a dragon king, and rather broody about it, too ;) He and Georgia definitely had sizzling chemistry and while they don't love each other, you could see their relationship developing and the potential is so hot! I really found myself totally entranced by this story and I'm dying to get the next book to see how things continue to unfold. Expect drama, danger, courage, an evil villain and steam to fully grab you and make this a one-sit read. Well done!
What drew me to this free ebook was the heroine was is deaf. Georgia is the princess of Kinokos and lost her hearing due to an illness that killed her mother. She refuses to marry her abusive finance and seeks out the Drakes, a secretive group of human like dragon creatures. With her handmaid, Aryn, she tries to convince the drake king, Ryu to help her by seducing him.
Ryu was kind but not entirely trusting of how Georgia claims to have been lost in the forest and brought back to their hidden society in the mountain. I liked how she doesn't back down and how learnt ways to compensate with not being able to hear. The frustration of characters who cannot use sign language let realistic. The way the drake society functions was interesting.
This is supposed to be a reverse harem but the story focused more on the couple. There was some sitting issues that made the reading experience abit off.
since the series that I loved by this author is over, I was not sure what to expect with starting over with a new series, new characters, and new problems. This book definitely eased the ache in my heart. There was a risk when dealing with someone with a disability. Not that they shouldn't be represented in stories, but whether or not you could do that disability justice because you risk it feeling forced. I think the frustrations and struggles that not being able to hear would cause were not forced but a part of the story naturally. So really enjoyed this book and looking forward to seeing how everything develops
I really liked this book, it is the first book where one of the main characters has some form of a disability and that she has had to put up with her betrothed Cal and his brother do those things to her, in order to save/help her father and her kingdom is very brave. The fact that the drake king was able to talk to her and she could actually hear him in her mind was brilliant. I cannot believe that it ended the way it did, I hope that the nest book in the series I find out whether or not the drake king will help Georgia and her handmaiden and the rest of her kingdom. I cannot wait to read the next book.
Georgia is a princess in a horrible situation - her kingdom is in trouble, her betrothed is a human monster, and she has no one to turn to for help… or does she? When she rides into the forest at night and is taken captive by drakes (dragon-human hybrids), she’s brought before their king, who is intrigued by her. King Ryu knows not all is as it seems, but he hasn’t figured out her game… yet. I loved Georgia’s fire and the determination with which she refused to let her hearing loss keep her down. Exciting things are to come in the next book, I can just feel it!
I couldn't put this book down! I have always loved dragons, but this story - the broody and sexy King Ryu !!!!! He is strong, smart, caring, tempting, temperamental and more.
And then there is Georgia- a firey princess who won't let anything stop her. I love the unique characteristic that she has (don't want to spoil it). I love how Ms. Bedford handled this characteristics. The princess continued to impress me throughout the story. Her determination and dedication and love for her people- wow. I loved the love and special bond with Ayrn. They have a beautiful friendship.
An amazing story. Georgia is the daughter of the King of Kinkos. She is supposed to marry the Prince of Plumus. But after learning of his plan to marry her and then kill her to take over her lands, she decides to get help frim the drakes. So she and her handmaiden Aryn set out to the drake lands. When they get to drake territory they are captured and taken to the drake king, Ryu. The book ends on a cliffhanger, but a wonderful story. Cant wait to read the next installment. Thanx.

I love a good story with a good female mc and this one is fantastic. Our female mc Georgia is strong, dependant and for a twist she is also deaf. Our storyline, her journey is exciting and thrilling as she risks everything to save her kingdom and heads for the dragons descendants the drakes. Ryu Is our intriguing male mc who finds himself drawn to Georgia though he doesn’t understand why. A fantastic slow burn romance with a little spice but not too much and an entertaining storyline that holds onto you till the end and I am looking forward to more.
Princess Georgia lost her hearing and her dear mother around the same time, she doesn't need more trouble. To protect her people, Georgia is prepared to go far, but can she put up with the cruelty of her betrothed? Or does she have other options? I hate Cal and Lu (I can't wait for them getting what they are owed). I am loving Ryu's character. I loved this intriguing story, Georgia's strength (although she is disadvantaged), and I am looking forward to what happens next.

This fantasy romance had deftly crafted world building. There was plenty of angst, which I know plenty of people love in a romance, though it was a little much for me personally. There was plenty of action and danger to keep the pacing quick and the stakes high. The development of the romance was swoony and the spicy scenes were quite satisfying. I recommend this romance for people who like more angsty, a little dark fantasy romances.

I love the idea of a bowser/peach love! I feel like it would have been more fun to have cal”Mario” be nice and her choose the bad guy anyways but appreciate the game changer. Only thing that didn’t make me feel 5 stars is it felt rushed at times, a little like unfinished scenes. Not fully well rounded. But I have to say, the world building was good, I loved the alternate Mario/bowser universe with Georgia in the lead, plus the characters had strong personalities and I enjoyed/devoured it! Looking forward to more/hoping for little dragon babies🤞🤞🤞
The way that I devoured this book was nothing short of carnivorous!
I could not put this dark monster romance down there was disability rep (hearing). Not only is the FMC Lively and courageous, She cares for those around her. when she finds out how vile her betrothed is she decides to take matters into her own hands and devises a plan to seek help from the Drakes (which are basically dragons! humanoid dragons.) Ryu is our Grumpy dragon King on the outside but the way he was so attentive to Georgia melted my heart.
3.5 stars. Georgia, the female human princess, has been betrothed to a human prince but he’s evil with plans torture her and usurp her kingdom. When she discovers his plans for more than her torture, she runs away to the drakes who live in their kingdom, planing to ingratiate herself with them and ask for their military assistance. King Ryu and his brothers, Princes Ira and Desmond, aren’t sure what to think of this human invader with her human attendant, though Ryu and Ira know they’re unduly attracted to her…
This is the first story in a trilogy, written from multiple POV, and an interesting, engaging, slow burn romance where I’m not actually even sure how many male leads there’ll end up being! I enjoyed the contrast between first person POV for Georgia and third person POV for all the males. I genuinely found it slow moving but interesting. This story seemed to be a LOT of set up and I’m hoping the go the following stories are a little faster paced. I REALLY enjoyed that Georgia is hearing impaired and that her disability is a genuine part of the story and changes the way interactions occur.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
