The 1950s came with the rise of Elvis Presley, Rock n Roll music, the civil rights movement in America, and much more. The United States' military power was considered the World's strongest, and the country's economy flourished. In this era, many homemakers enjoyed the convenience of pre-packaged foods, especially for baking and canned foods. Grocery stores were now offering a variety of canned meats, fish, vegetables, fruit, flavored gelatin powders, baking mix, and much more, making it easier for home cooks.

It was in the 1950s that homemakers started to innovate and use new kitchen appliances, making cooking easier for every homemaker. Jello was in with the appearance of towering Jell-O molds or serving warm tuna casseroles at every potluck party. Many dishes also have Chex-Mix, Spam, and pineapple, a Hawaiian influence that still perdures today.

In this cookbook, you'll find over 110 of the most popular and classic recipes from the 1950s. You won't have to seek out these recipes in old closets or forgotten cupboards anymore because this cookbook has them all organized in one place!

Having been born in 1957, I remember most of these recipes!

Starting with the first recipe "Bacon Spider Web Bread" (which my mom made with bacon grease instead of real bacon pieces), cornmeal pancakes, Swedish meatballs, and all the cookie recipes it led me back to my past/childhood.

Now that is only me and my little Pekingese dog sharing an apartment, I plan to make several (if not all) of these recipes from "my" past.

One of the great things about this book is that it also includes a conversion chart for amounts as they were a bit different back in the day.

Wonderful old recipes from when home cooking was the norm.

I loved looking into these recipes from when Grandma and Mom cooked all our meals at home. I wrote down many of their recipes but there were many I have lost over time.
I even found an old Tomato soup recipe which I remember my Great Aunt teaching me. It's been my go to recipe for many years. I'm in my 7th & found it in this book!! Happy me!
