A young, edgy paranormal cozy that was amazing!

First sentence and I was already intrigued.

Mitzy is tough, sassy, sarcastic, and broke. She has a dingy apartment and a lousy job. Then her life changes dramatically, completely, 180 degrees, and she moves to Pin Cherry Harbor, a small town where her late Grandmother lived. And it’s like stepping back in time! Mitzy’s reaction to carbon paper is hilarious!

Mitzy made me smile a lot with her wicked sense of humor. And her smarts. A diamond in the rough. All fight and no flight. And the comfortable banter between her and the ghost of her late Grams (Ghost-ma) was very entertaining! A clever mystery too. Or more accurate: two mysteries are intermingled. This cozy was somewhat edgier than most cozies I’ve read and I loved it! I believe it’s up there with the best!

This was the kind of book that has you turning the pages like mad and then you’re sad because it’s over and you have to wait until the next book comes out.

Quote 1: “His face says “not pleased” in at least five languages.” LOL
Quote 2: “Did I faint? I pinch myself. Ow! Apparently I did not faint. Another movie classic fails to deliver.” Love it!!!

I received an ARC of this from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

And to be honest, this wasn't the book for me. I feel a bit bad about rating 2 stars, but I have to be honest, the book was really just 'ok' for me. If it had been drawn out any longer than the 186 pages, it would have been a 1 star review without a doubt.

I love cozy mysteries, ghosts, paranormal, and love to see books set in Michigan. When I read the description, I thought I'd enjoy the book. But it really didn't work for me. Maybe I'm not the target audience - I'm in my 40's, so the whole "20 something having a hard time with the world" thing doesn't work for me. I couldn't stand the character of Mitzy at all. First of all, her name was just annoying, but the whole book she seemed to really just be complaining non stop. OK, life was difficult, but she seemed to know her cycle of partying, booze, poor nutrition was bad. Why did it take a surprise inheritance to set her straight? I mean, really. And the constant comments about what she was wearing was just annoying. I don't know, I just really didn't like anything from the book, and her whole reaction to the ghost of grandma and her long lost dad - it was hard to buy.

Maybe this review will balance out the others and help those of you decide what to try and what to skip. IT wasn't for me, but that's ok.

Mitzy Moon is a down on her luck barista until destiny steps in …or at least a lawyer with a special delivery. She’s stunned to learn, after losing her mom and spending most of her childhood in foster care, that she has a family. Not only that, the grandmother she never met has left her a small fortune as well as a bookshop.
Mitzy arrives in Pin Cherry Harbor to claim her inheritance … only to be accused of murder when the sheriff finds her standing over a body in the alley behind her bookshop. With a little help from her grandmother’s ghost and the spoiled cat she’s inherited, Mitzy is able to clear her name and also solve a case involving the father she never knew.

Fries & Alibis has a funny MC, a quirky small town, and is a perfect paranormal cozy mystery that has me ready to devour book two!

Nothing ordinary here

Misty Moon is a twenty one year old orphan that has seen the tougher side of the foster care system. She is living in a run down apartment and three months behind on rent when she receives information that will change her life.
She takes off the the Great Lakes and to find what her inheritance includes
She has just begun the process of arriving in town, finding her Grandmother's lawyer and claiming her new life when she is arrested for murder. To make things better she is arrested by the gorgeous sheriff whom she immediately forms a crush on.
Her caracal cat, ghostly Grandmother and alchemist lawyer join forces to help her and life just gets more convoluted. Another murder or two and her excon father coming into her life gives the reader numerous plots and subplots to immerse themselves into.
This is a new series to me but I look forward to more of Mitzy Moon.

Mon avis en français

My English review

I didn’t know the series or the author, but when I came across this first volume, I was curious to find out more.

Mitzy Moon is broke. She doesn’t have a family anymore: her mother died and she has to fend for herself. But then she is visited by a man who tells her that her grandmother, whom she did not know, has died and that she has inherited a large amount of money as well as a book store. A very nice surprise, but it also brings many questions: Who was her grandmother? Why has her father never contacted her? Who is she really? But as she tries to find out who she is, she stumbles upon her grandfather’s dead body and becomes the number one suspect. Between proving her innocence, discovering the identity of the murderer, getting to know her father, and most importantly, dealing with the ghost of her grandmother, Mitzy will be at a loss.

This was a nice classic cozy, but it’s like a lot of others. I’m not sure if I’ll ever read the sequel, but on occasion why not.

I did not like a single thing about this book.

Mitzy is rude, disgusting, and a slut. She doesn't pay her debts and has zero regards for others. The author attempts to excuse this away by saying she was an orphan and fails. She's not snarky, she's mean. I really should have thrown this book to the side when in the first chapter it was clear that Mitzy has no class or morals.

The Sheriff is an idiot. He keeps arresting her when she has zero motive. The only reason ONLY REASON he keeps arresting her is because she's new in town? WTH? Since when is that a crime? What sort of ridiculous reason is that? I don't see him as hot. I see him as somebody I'd run away from and never look back. There is no way the author could ever redeem him or her for that matter.

"Twiggy" is just plain mean spirited. She's not cute or funny.

The mean-girl deputy (who is fat and short because hey let's add fat shaming to this steaming mess of a book) was ridiculous. Was she supposed to be the villain somehow? I just found her annoying.

The characters are awful, the author completely failed in making me like any of these characters. I hated the characters so much that I gave up before I even got 30% into the book. Right after the 3rd time he "arrested" her, I was done.

It's that bad.

Gah.

I feel bad leaving a 1-star rating. However, according to the Good Reads rating system that means I don't like the book. Since I didn't like it enough to finish it? Anyways, others love it so give it a try. This is just my opinion.

When you inherit a bookshop in "almost-Canada" . . .

There's nothing to stop you from deciding to "venture off to great lakes and mysterious harbors."

When I met Mizithra Achelois Moon in the first few pages of this new series, I wasn't sure I'd warm up to her.  Before the end of the chapter, however, I'd definitely changed my mind about Mitzy.

Just hours after arriving to claim her inheritance, Mitzy finds herself arrested for the murder of a stranger she soon learns was her grandfather!  Enter the mysterious Silas, the almost fatherly Odell, and the mischievous caracal called Pyewacket.  As unlikely a set of sleuth's assistants as you'd ever want to meet; soon to be joined by the otherworldly presence of Mitzy's Grams.   What they uncover as they dig deep into both the current murder and a seemingly related one from years ago will keep you turning pages and falling head over heels for Silvertale's characters and the small sleepy town of Pin Cherry Harbour.

"You are the most irritating mammal in the universe, Pyewacket.  And I think I love you."  I think I do as well.   I wonder if my dachshund would welcome a caracal fur-sibling?

Grab this one as soon as you can; I can promise you an exciting read.  And like me, you'll be wanting to move to Pin Cherry just so you can eat at Myrtle's and hear all the gossip!

[I received a copy of this book from the author, for an honest review of the book.   The opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.]

Fast-paced and sassy

Mitzy is great. With all the confidence you'd expect from someone her age. After a tough upbringing as an orphan; when her mother dies and her father is awol - life chucks her lemons and she develops a thick skin. Three months behind on her rent, seems doing her best isn't cutting the mustard. Until Silas arrives on her doorstep. A letter, a bundle of cash, keys to a bookstore and she's off as fast as her legs can carry her. An unexpected inheritance is about to change the course of her life.
No sooner as she's off she bus at Pin Cherry and gets a taste of her new home, she's in trouble. Much like her father before her, she's collared for murder.
Great characters, love the rapport with dead Grandma, I think the paranormal stuff will keep unfolding. I wish I could get away with stuffing all those calories. Good job, clever mystery and can't wait to read the next book. So glad I'm an ARC reader of this new series.

I LOVE this book! Mitzy is a snarky, smart, perfectly flawed heroine! I cheered for her from the start. Each of the characters is unique and wonderful. If you're looking for a fresh, fun cozy read, DON'T miss this one! Next book? YES PLEASE!

it was so much fun to have one of my favorite cozy mysteries come to life through the wonderful narration by Colleen Marlo. I enjoyed revisiting the snarky, insecure young woman who unexpectedly inherits a bookstore in a place she's never heard of. What she finds is a cute town sheriff who accuses her of murder almost as soon as she steps of the bus. As Mitzy explores her new home she discovers a ghostly grandmother, an alchemist lawyer, a long lost father and whole cast of wonderful characters. I love this audio version of a thoroughly enjoyable book and can't wait to hear more!

What happens when a broke barista suddenly inherits a fortunate and a family she never knew? Shenanigans that’s what! This was a fun, paranormal read. Mitzy is a fun character determined not to be railroaded into a murder charge as she investigates the murder of her grandpa all while getting to know her ghostly grandma and that darn demon cat. I’m not sold on that sheriff because while Mitzi may think he’s sexy I think he’s just incompetent 👀👀😒 but there’s no accounting for taste even in between the pages 🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️

Mitzy Moon is behind on her rent, has a lousy job, and no family. Put when she opens the door to a little old man her life changes completely. She has inherited money and a bookstore from a grandma she never knew. When she arrives in town things go awry. She almost immediately become a suspect in a murder, inherits a cat, meets her grandmother’s ghost and much more.

This is a fun mystery. I love Mitzy’s character. She is unique, flawed, strong willed and full of spunk. The secondary characters are also unique and likable. The mystery is well plotted with quite a few twists and turns along the way.

I listened to the audio version of the book. The narrator Coleen Marlo does a fabulous job bring the book to life. She brings out each character’s personality. Great book to listen to made me aloud out loud while listening.

All thoughts and opinions are my own, and in no way, have I been influenced by anyone.

Loved this book. This is a cute book about a newly wealthy young lady who meets her father for the first time and solves the mystery of her grandfather's death. She is assisted by a ghost of her grandmother and a super charged kitty. It was highly entertaining and I did not want to put it down!

So much fun!

This was so much more than I was expecting, and Mitzy and her strange life was very compelling. The murder mystery, the hot Sheriff, and a certain ghost just added more to an already delightful read. However, I think the icing on this cake was Pye (I’ll leave it to you to discover Pye for yourself 😁).

An intriguing new series with a main character that goes from destitute orphan to millionaire to murder suspect! Snarky dialogue that is often witty and humorous makes for an entertaining listen on audiobook. A cast of sidekicks that are equal parts persnickety and lovable including a ghost grandmother makes the plot intriguing and enjoyable. I'm definitely curious to see where the series goes next with these characters.

Fun. Delightful. Charming. Lots of great one-liners. This is the first book in a new series and I am hooked already.

Mitzi Moon, broke and jobless, finds herself the beneficiary of her grandmother’s “Last Will and Testament”. She has inherited a bookstore and a good amount of money. Mitzi sees this as the ideal time to move on and go check out that bookstore she now owns. But shortly after arriving in Pin Cherry Harbour she finds a body and becomes a suspect in a murder. So now Mitzy is determined to find the real killer and becomes a bit of an amateur detective.

The characters are entertaining. Grams who just happens to be a ghost. Mitzy, quirky and sarcastic, can see and communicate with Grams (AKA Ghost-ma). And that girl can put away the food! Sheriff Erick Harper (AKA Sheriff Too Hot to Handle). Odell, the cook at Myrtle’s Diner who keeps Mitzi fed. Twiggy, Tilly and Tally, Silas, and Robin Pyewacket Goodfellow (Pye). Pye is my favorite – a caracal cat who is obsessed with Fruity Puffs cereal. A cast of remarkable characters who help Mitzi track down the real killer.

I loved it! Made me smile and laugh. Mitzi isn’t quite used to how quickly news spreads in a small town so we experience small town life with its good and bad points.

I am looking forward to more books from Trixie Silvertale. (Don’t you just love that name!)

I just finished this delightful romp as the first of a new series by Trixie Silvertale and I had a smile on my face from the first page forward to its conclusion!

Mitzy is a character I believe all who read this book will fall in love with. She goes from orphan to getting money and inheriting a bookstore to boot. She sees this as an opportunity to start over and jumps at the chance. However she has only been in town for an hour or so and is arrested for murdering a man in the alley behind the bookstore. Thus the stage is set for a rollicking adventure as she sees her just deceased “Grams” as a ghost who she can talk to as well. The humor is nonstop as she goes about trying to prove her innocence.

I believe readers from teenagers to adults will simply enjoy this story and will be eagerly awaiting (like me) for the next wacky adventures that only Mitzy can have.

Trixie is a new author but her humor is to die for! She is a natural at it and I was held in her spell as the story played out! Kudos Trixie on such a smashing success as a writer of good clean humor and a character I am anxious to follow as long as this series lasts.

The book is terrific and I heartily recommend it!!

Ah, Mitzy Moon how I adore you !!!!!!! Fries and Alibis is the first book in the Mitzy Moon Mystery Series and what a DEBUT it is!!!!

I absolutely love cozy paranormal mysteries and this one is not to be missed. I was pulled in from the first few pages. Mitzy is a spitfire , a broke spitfire who moves to Pin Cherry Harbor (great name).
This town is a bit like going back in history. Pin Cherry Harbor is where her late grandmother lived. Well Ghost Grandma.

The characters the author developed are well thought out and complex. Mitzy is really hilarious and a bit snarky, in the best possible way. There are two mysteries seamlessly integrated into the story. I don't know how the author did , as it was so well written.

I loved this book and I cannot wait for the next one in the series.

I love this book! The characters are so much fun to get to know and I wanted them to be my friends. The main character is Mitzy Moon. She’s an orphan, a barista who is late on her rent, and she has lost her job when a man comes to apartment and notifies her that her grandmother had died and left her the estate which includes a bookstore. Mitzy sees this as a chance to leave behind her problems so she loads up everything she can in her clunky car. The first day she’s at her bookstore, she finds a body. She gets arrested for murdering him. With the help of her grandmother who is now a ghost (she calls her Ghostma - lol), she must discover who killed the man who is really her grandfather. I can’t wait for the next books to be released so I can find out what trouble she gets into next!

I love this new series by Trixie Silvertale. I was given an advanced copy for an honest review. There is a bit of snark(which I like), and mild paranormal elements that I love. The characters are fun and I cant wait to see them develop. I just listened to the audio version and the narrator does a great job with all of the characters and their voices. I think she gave a whole new dimension to the book.

One of the best paranormal cozy mysteries I have read. I am astounded that this is the first book by this author. The characters are engaging, their relationships and emotions feel real and while the plot is familiar, it has never captured me so completely. I will be reading more from this series and will be watching for any books by this author. I received a free copy of this book but that has not influenced my review in any way.

Mitzy Moon is an orphan, so when she discovers her long lost grandmother left her a fortune and a bookshop of rare tomes brimming with magic she can’t accept fast enough. But as soon as she sets foot in the quirky village of Pin Cherry Harbor to claim her inheritance, the handsome sheriff catches her standing over a corpse. Desperate to prove her innocence, she’s forced to accept help from her granny’s entitled cat and a spirit from beyond the grave.

This cozy mystery was so cute and fun! I picked it up and couldn’t put it down. I’m definitely more in love with thrillers than mysteries but I just may have to read the rest of these books.

Mitzi was such a fun character and I loved the ghost/paranormal aspects of this book. While reading, it honestly felt like watching a tv show. Picturing Mitzi run around this small town trying to sold a murder with the help of a caracal cat, ghost grandmother, and alchemists lawyer. Loved it!

I can definitely see the author's reading history in this first book. It has the humorous sense of a "The Cat Who" book. Ms. Silvertale brings a bubbliness to her MC in spite of her tough downtrodden background. Mitzy seems to rise above each crisis and move forward. I'd say she might get some of her personality from her Grandmother, even though the two have never met in life. This is the grandmother who leaves her a bookstore in her will. Mitzy moves to Pit Cherry, a very small behind the times town to claim the bookstore. She leaves behind unpaid rent and bills thinking she is an orphan. When she gets to Pit Cherry, she discovers she's inherited quite the place...a bookstore with first editions and a museum, a worker she doesn't pay, a caracal cat who eats cereal, a lawyer who knows some strange things, and some family she didn't know she had. Plus, the sheriff wants to arrest her for murder. This is definitely a series I want to continue reading. Recommended.

The list of cozy mysteries I've read is short, but it'll be growing now that I've read the first book in the Mitzy Moon series. The story is written at a wonderful pace and had many charming characters. Pin Cherry Harbor is the perfect cozy, yet perfect for a mystery too. The reason for 4 stars was because I struggled a bit with understanding how Mitzy could so easily have a relationship with her father. I can't wait to dive into book two!
