Accidental Alien Brides #3

Wed to the Alien Brute

Rate this book
My dreams of marrying a hot alien came true— except the grumpy brute can’t stand me.

I am the only one excited —okay, delighted— at finding myself married to a hulking, alien warlord. I’ve always been into scales and tails, and this big green beefcake is right up my alley. Except, he’s not into me. But I want my fun, and that’s the very least I can get out of this arranged marriage.

I’m determined to get my way, and I’m sick of being ignored. When my grumpy husband leaves for the capital, I have an evil plan: stow away on his ship and wear him down with my sunny disposition.

Except, he’s not going to the capital. He’s scoping out a secret base, and he is furious with me. But when the enemy Roth board our ship, endangering his mission and me, his grouchy front cracks. If we want to survive, he’ll have to realize there’s more to me than sunshine and rainbows.

And I’ll have to figure out if I'm brave enough to give him what he wants: love.

This one was just alright to me. There were a few funny moments and some of the new reveals kept it interesting. But I just didn't care for Dergoz and Bex as a couple. They are the weakest addition thus far to this series..

I'm actually more interested in reading about the rightful Roth King, Nydo and the Arco, Reif, than I am about the next few couples of the Sueven males.. but I know there will be more set up in these books, for the species' I'm most interested in, before I actually get to read their stories.

I think this is the last book out for now in this series.. not sure when I'll return to it though, when the next book comes out.

Based on books 1-3, I would recommend this series.

In my opinion, this was the weakest of the series so far. Still fun and entertaining, but I found Bex to be really annoying. I know she used humor to cope with her struggles with relationships, but I found it to be way too exaggerated and honestly not funny. She also purposely used so much slang that dergoz was always confused and it got repetitive. Ultimately though, I still like all the plot elements going on in the background. There were some things revealed that make me excited for future books and the world was slightly more expanded.

“He puts the grump in grumpy.”

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💜🩷💙💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌎
Character development: ☹️😍😋😤🥰
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Rebecca (a.k.a. Bex) - she was the only one of the all-female mission to Suevan territory that wasn’t very upset when she found out that what they thought was a welcoming ceremony, was actually a wedding ceremony and she was now married to an alien. See Bex was a huge fan of alien and monster romance novels, and she was more than happy to be starring in a real-life version of one of her favorite novels. She had fantasized about falling for a monster for years. Though she wasn’t too happy about the fact that their choices were taken from them by their own government, she thought her new husband was all that and a bag of chips.

The Hero: Warlord Dergoz (a.k.a. the brute) - he chose Bex when the females first landed on his planet and was more than attracted to the curvy female. Though when he heard her refer to him as a ‘monster’, he was completely disheartened. He had always been called ‘the brute’ by his colleagues and he wasn’t fond of being thought of that way, so when his own wife called him a monster, he took it to heart. He was grouchy and broody and refused to spend time with Bex.

The Story: The human women were each implanted with a symbiont translator, but they each started working at different times, so Bex still could not understand the Suevans. Though she had Gen, to translate when she went to Dergoz’s home to give him a batch of cookies she baked. He was grumpy again and wouldn’t talk directly to her, but he mentioned that he had to go to the capital that evening, so Bex came up with a plan to stow away aboard his ship and go with him. Little did she know that the warlord commander had cancelled the trip to the capital and was instead sending the brute, who was one of the best warlords, on a dangerous mission to a databank of their enemies, the Roth.

I have enjoyed this series quite a bit so far. Each book is different, the first had an attack on the planet by the Roth, the second was an Indiana Jones-like adventure through the jungle, and this one is a space adventure. The characters are great, and the world building is also pretty good. I like that for a change; the female isn’t all butt-hurt about being on an alien planet and being mated to an alien. I like it when the females take things in stride and see their new life as a big adventure. I mean if I was in space, or on a new planet, and paired with a tall, handsome warrior that I was attracted to, I would hope that I would see it as a new adventure, though I would miss my family on earth, and probably some of the things I like about Earth, I would still try to enjoy myself.

This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Mason Lloyd and Hollie Jackson, both of whom I like very much. They are expressive and natural sounding; you definitely can’t tell they are reading.

Monster romance readers!!

If you’re obsessed with monster romance, then you travel to another planet and you discover that that weird ceremony you just did was actually your wedding to some (hot, tall, and weird peened) alien? DO NOT gleefully proclaim you now get to F a Monster. They don’t like to be called that 😆

This book is all about Bex, romance reader extraordinaire, trying desperately to get her alien husband Dergoz (aka the Brute 😉) to ~dick her down already~ (her words, not mine) 💀

In a silly, totally joking way, I felt personally attacked by how much romance novels have addled this heroine’s brain. I mean, her forced proximity one bed trope scheme made a lot of sense to me. But seeing how confused her friends were when she started talking about her ‘trousseau’… are we okay? Should we be worried about ourselves over here in romance book land?

… Nah! Because Bex was totally right. Slightly scary, broody, super hot vibrating peen alien guy who’s obsessed with you and eating 🐈? Amazing. Human lady with the horndog level of your average romance reader and just wants to have freaky sex, discovering love in the process? Even better!

This was just pure joy, alien romance amazingness. It was so funny and so steamy! And by the end Bex had Dergoz reading Orc romances (Husband Buddy Read, anyone?)… which he then explained to the alien guys who haven’t figured out how to woo their human wives yet. Oh my, the next few books are going to be the best thing I’ve ever read, I can just tell 🤣🤣

Big fan of Bex

I thought Bex was a breath of fresh air in this series. She has all the self confidence and is competent, but not primarily as a fighter. She’s also a monster f*cker, which makes her more relatable to… uh… you know… some people.
I didn’t love Dergoz as much, but I liked the play of the romance between them.

Spice: 4/5

Hilarious & Chaotic Monster Romance

QUICKLOOK:
This book was a mixed bag of marbles! Hilarious enemies to lovers, sweet fated mates, naughty monster romance, a pet companion, action/adventure, a HEA and much more.

You'll need a little backstory to get up to speed (skip over if you've read prev books)

BACKSTORY:
Female Federation officers from Earth were unknowingly tricked, by their own Federation, into marrying Suevan warlords in exchange for technology that would save Earth from another invasion.

The Suevans negotiated for willing women- that's def NOT what they got. But nobody realized it until after the sacred marriage ceremony and language implant. The women are stuck on Sueva indefinitely (Earth won't let them come back). So they're blending into Suevan society the best they can.

Each book features a new couple and their HEA but also has an overarching storyline. This is Book 3, so we are on our 3rd couple.

THIS BOOK:
Bex, our female lead, has always been a huge monster romance fan. She wants to erm... bang- no let's call it love 😉....love a monster 🤣. These alien warlords are so her thing- scales, tails, fangs and muscles for days.

But her warlord, Dergoz, (who everyone already calls a brute) overheard Bex call him a monster and he takes it as an insult. A very hurtful and shameful one.

Therefore, Dergoz wants no part of it- or her. Bex tries baking him sweets and putting herself in his face as much as possible. But he's not having it and instead storms away angry every time. All of her monster romance dreams are going up in flames and Bex is determined to fix it.

So she stows-away on Dergoz's ship, thinking she'll seduce him on his way to the capital city of Sueva. He can't walk away on a tiny ship and she's packed all the essential seduction accessories to succeed. Only, he's going on a dangerous mission into enemy territory- not the capital. And whew boy do things get interesting lol.

OPINIONS: I'm going to shoot it to you straight. I absolutely loved most of this book, the laughter it inspired was so healing. But there were a few parts I didn't care for. Hence the 4 stars.

Let's start on the cons and get em' out of the way. The parts I didn't care for were all due to them not being believable for ME. Such as being smack dab in the middle of intense danger/action but the couple stops to conversate or wants to get freaky. My anxiety is screaming the entire time and I can't enjoy it. I liked the way things turned out in the end. So I pretended it didn't happen and was good to go.

Okay, now the pros. Bex was hilarious and pure chaos. The Queen of surprises and idioms. I never knew what she was going to say or do next. That was totally refreshing and her character was so unique. She had me laughing until my sides hurt with her clown side but then she'd save the day in some way and I'd be proud of her. A bag of marbles lol.

Dergoz, aka the brute, was also unpredictable. Grumpy one second and then pure heart the next. I loved the culture clashes that came about from his lack of understanding Earth slang/idioms. Once he was given some praise and confidence, he tried super hard to please. Which was so cute and sighworthy. And hilarious. His first attempt at dirty talk went horribly, terribly wrong but it was sooooo funny. It may or may not have involved meat curtains 🤣😬.

I loved the camraderie between friends, old and new. It was really relatable how they bicker and burn each other with fake dissing. Yet always stand up for one another when truly needed.

I adored the vicious pet companion, Horacio. He was funny, sweet, and so dang cool. Plus, he was a total baddie and had six tails. 🐱

There were adventures, battles, shocking twists, true villains and maybe see-my-side bad guys.

Overall, this book was hella funny and entertaining. I'll def continue the series.

It never went to deep dark places and always had consent. Due to a ton of sailor language, spicy scenes, and hilarious shenanigans- I suggest for adults only. And I recommend for fans of monster romance.

Read through KU. Happy reading fellow romance enthusiasts!

I read the first 2 and they were funny and wanted to enjoy this one too but it only exacerbates the problem with the second book. These are supposed to be highly trained women and they act like petulant teenagers half the time. They demand to be involved in things they know nothing about and get mad when people try to keep them safe from citations they are not able to handle. I don't think I will be reading anymore of these because the rest of the women seem to with be unremarkable or just straight annoying.

"For you I would be monstrous. For you I would burn the world and everything in it, just for you to forgive me. Just for one look. One kiss."

4.5 stars!

Not only was Dergoz and Bex's story my favorite of the series so far, but it also got me out of my book slump! I loved how vulnerable yet possessive Dergoz was. Because of a miscommunication with Bex's obsession with monster-fucking, he was hesitant at first to acknowledge her as his mate. However, Bex wasn't going to just accept his rejection and took matters into her own hands, and I loved her tenacity so much. As is typical with January Bell, the humor and language mistranslations were top-notch between the human woman and alien males, while the sexual interludes between Dergoz and Bex were monstrously hot. There were a few surprise introductions to new allies towards the end, and I'm excited to see how the new storylines evolve🖤

Tropes: arranged marriage, grumpy/sunshine, reluctant hero, sassy heroine, forced proximity, only one bed, mating ceremony, language barrier, size difference, monster romance, dirty talking hero, tail play, STEAMY🔥

Book 3 in the "unknowingly wed to a bunch of aliens by my own government in desperate need of advanced alien technology to save humanity because only human women are fertile apparently" series was pretty good! Good story, funny, good character development, A+ alien cat.

I felt that Bex and Dergoz were much more balanced than Niki and Draz of book 1 and I was much more pleased with Bex as a character as a whole. I still feel like the whole human crew feels more like a college group of 20 something friends that went on a trip rather than a trained space military crew.

Anyway, Bex is a fellow monster romancer whose dreams come true being wedded to an alien - only he's not interested in her! It turns out the alien Dergoz is a long-term commitment kind of guy and Bex is a casual hookup kind of girl and they have to come clean about that and work it out. All of them working that stuff out with each other was great and handled well. Lots of great lines and scenes in that part of the plot.

There's a scene where Dergoz leaves Bex behind instead of treating her like the competent, able, skilled person she is and I was furious. Bex was also furious and Dergoz admittedly very regretful but I felt like she forgave him too easily and too quickly. I did appreciate how much she fought for herself though: “I might not be scaly, or finned, or eight feet tall, but I am good with a gun and I am great with tech. I am a military officer. I am trained. And I am capable. I will not let you sideline me just because you want to shove a kid inside me.” (p. 126). Kindle Edition.

I absolutely LOVE Horatio! I'm picturing a deadlier version of a vulpix. I also hadn't made the connection about each female character getting some kind of alien animal so I hope that continues as a trend. I was also happy to get an introduction to another alien species and a little peek into more about the Roth beyond just a vague violent, evil entity.

I'm looking forward to book 4 so I'll probably sound off on that one when it comes out in a month!

In a groundbreaking mission, Earth has launched an all-female team into space with the objective of establishing contact with extraterrestrial life and fostering goodwill. However, the team encounters unexpected challenges that go beyond their initial expectations. A significant aspect of this encounter involves differing perceptions: while the human women see it as a welcoming initiative, the aliens view it through the lens of traditional customs, including marriage.

This situation unfolds in a complex and often hostile environment, raising concerns about the safety of the human team. As the narrative progresses, the dynamics between the women and the alien alpha warlords evolve, highlighting their protective instincts toward the newcomers. This interplay leads to intense chemistry among the characters, prompting them to confront their feelings and desires amidst the challenges they face.

The story is rich with elements of action, misunderstandings, fear, pain, love, and humor, creating a multifaceted exploration of relationships across species and the journey toward mutual understanding and connection.

I was howling with laugher with this one.

This would have been a four star read for me before the halfway point. I liked that this book addressed a bit of my critiques from the last book using the FMC. She is a monster lover (love this) and the MMC overhears her calling him a monster. He’s hurt as he’s called a monster when it comes to fighting and doesn’t want her to view him this way as well. Once this is cleared up it touches a bit on him feeling like she only like him because she likes monsters and that’s resolved as well.

My issue was halfway into this book you have the MMC treating the FMC like a damsel in distress and refusing to listen to reason. Part of what I like about this series is the FMC’s have specialized skills and are badass soldier girls. So him putting her in that box rubbed me all sorts of wrong. To add to this his apology wasn’t enough. It consisted mostly of him trying to apologize using his amazing alien dick. I need more grovel and than alien make up sex. Not an angry fuck and a weak apology, after the fact.

I almost DNF'd at 50%. My rating is more like 2.5 stars. I don't like the writing. Too many unnecessary words. Probably to bolster the word count for KU. Like: I flinched back reflexively, instead of just: I flinched back. Plus other things I won't waste my time on. It was such a Ruby Dixon copycat, including kidnapping the women. I did like the nightmare kitty and the Orc books that kidnapped the women and kept them alive on their sp*nk. Wow-too funny and messed up. I probably won't finish the series. The Rath baddies that went to Earth and killed hundreds of thousands of people get redeemed a bit. The true king, whose bloodline was thought to have died out, shows himself. He can turn into flame (?). He kept himself hidden because the current ruler would've hunted him and his 2 brothers down and killed them. He's determined to take him out now with the help of the Swathen (?) and some merman race that has the same problem of only males being born. The King "scented" his human mate amongst some freshly captured POW's.

Yeah, I just couldn't get into this one.

My main complaint is that Bex is annoying, almost unlikeable at times, so it's hard to care for her story.

Let's start from the beginning. Dergoz is mad that Bex called him a monster, referring to her romance books, so he avoids her. He's mad that she wants the novelty of having relations with a "monster" over her wanting him for him, and honestly, it's a valid complaint. She literally fetishizes him and only wanted the novelty of being with a "monster". Bex never reflects on why he's hurt and they just move on from this plot point, OK.

Next, Dergoz is being sent on a dangerous mission, where he will most likely have to go up against an entire army and could possibly be walking into a trap. What's Bex's brilliant plan? Sneak on board his ship and try to seduce him, with no questions about where he's going or why he was being sent off, to try and seduce him. For the sake of the plot, Dergoz had extra items, but stepping back to observe the situation, he had no clue she would be there, and she's lucky he had anything extra at all. Especially bc this was supposed to be a suicide mission for Dergoz.

Then, they encounter these creatures called the Roth. Now, it's already been established that the Roth need human women, plan on turning them into broodmares, have already people, and have no qualms about kidnapping or drugging human women. So these Roth invade their ship, and her husband asks that she hides, due to all the reasons stated above. What does Bex do? She gets up on a crate in lingerie and starts singing Mary had a little lamb while twerking (almost falling off the crate mind you) while Dergoz actually incapacitates them. I want everyone to keep in mind that Bex was supposedly a trained military member before all of this. When they incapacitate the two Roth soldiers, they go back to the Roth ship to send them packing, Dergoz dragging the two incapacitated soldiers. Bex, still in lingerie, walks ONTO THE SHIP without paying attention, and a third Roth that was still on the ship ALMOST FUCKING SHOOTS HER. She didn't even NOTICE a plasma rifle was aimed at her until Dergoz had already neutralized the threat. This was the part of the book where I started thinking that Bex was low-key a liability.

Ok, so then they actually land on the Roth planet so Dergoz can complete his mission. The problem is that Bex wants to come along as well, onto a Roth stronghold crawling with soldiers that are 3 feet taller and 20x stronger and faster than she is. Dergoz obviously doesn't want her to go. Remember that the Roth are actively looking for human women to kidnap and breed at this time BTW. Bex refuses to listen, so Dergoz ties her up and leaves while he goes on his mission. The book wants you to think this was some terrible betrayal he did and that he left her to die, but that's NOT what happened. She had food, water, a comms tablet so she could call Dergoz or anyone else for help, a predator that she befriended earlier with acid saliva and a sonic scream was protecting her, and she was in a soundproof building far away from everything else. She literally could not be more protected. Especially because Dergoz and the other guy he was with were immediately brutalized and kidnapped as she was whining that she couldn't be there. WHY? So you could immediately get kidnapped too??? Hell, the only reason they were able to escape was because she was left there and was able to gather supplies and call for backup. Then she willingly let's herself get captured, and they inject ovulation enhancers in her to make her a broodmare IMMEDIATELY. She's mad at Dergoz for leaving her and saying she could've been an asset, but if these two fully grown adult alien men that are bigger, stronger, and faster than you immediately lost, what makes you think you being there would have been helpful?

By this point, I'm checked out of the book. They keep trying to characterize Bex as "chaotic", but all I could think about was how this person survived military training or have lasted in the military. She doesn't understand dangerous situations, runs head first into danger, and her personality is just being "quirky" and "chaotic". I couldn't even enjoy the romance because the sex scenes were just ok, and they don't really have a lot of chemistry, or at least not as much chemistry the characters in the first two books.

Anyway, rant over. TL;DR - The FMC was veering into "too stupid to live" category, the romance was just ok, the plot relied on a LOT of contrivances to happen and and almost seemed afraid of letting the FMC ever be wrong. Not one star because there were still elements of the book I enjoyed, but can't rate it higher than 2 stars.

I’m going to be taking a break from this series for a while as I really struggled with Bex as a main character. I was really excited for this book but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I expected. There were too many modern references and jokes that didn’t land, and she could have been so much more than she was.

There was a setup for future couples and different alien races and planets which will be fun to read about, but I definitely need a break from a while.

Also I’m slightly annoyed at myself that I knew exactly what Orc books were being referenced, but I am also a monster loving girlie.

Quick(ish) Review

Third book in, and I’m still enjoying this series. There’s a lot of familiar SFR tropes, but the standout thing is the communication, especially during sex. I like that while Dwgoz is inexperienced, he and Bex talk it out. The group is starting to develop more and really show their personalities and while it’s giving me IPB vibes, I’m not mad at it. I also like that Ms. bell includes content warnings at the beginning of the books, very helpful. All in all, I’m happy to stay on this crazy train and see where it goes. If you like SFR, I think you’d enjoy this.

Really enjoyed this one, but I was expecting to like Bex more. I really struggled with her in the beginning and didn't like there wasn't more of a discussion around the fact that she really hurt him. I get he hurt her too (because hurt people hurt people), but I wanted a little more work done on her end of the mutual apologies. I absolutely adored the alien kitty though -> even though he was a bit of a dues ex machina.

While I had fun with this one, I'm disappointed in how their relationship developed. I don't think either of the MC's learned from their mistakes, and we didn't even get an "I love you" scene. Yeah they got their HEA, but it didn't feel sincere. And maybe that's a more realistic interpretation of a relationship, but um, I'm here reading about himbo aliens. I'm not exactly looking for 'realism'.

I have been DYING for Bex's book and not just because Bex is my besties name. I always love reading about a monster romance loving FMC finding a monster or alien of her own. This is hands down my favorite in the series. Bex and her Brute are top tier for me. Also is anything cuter than a venomous alien cat creature named Horatio that (in the audiobook) kind of sounds like he's fronting an 80s hair band with all the YEAHing he does.

When Bex's fantasy of marrying a handsome alien becomes a reality, she's over the moon – until she realizes that her new husband can't stand her. Despite her excitement about being wed to a giant green warrior, Dergoz has no interest in her. Fed up with being ignored, Bex is determined to make the most of her arranged marriage. Her plan? To stow away on his ship and charm him with her sunny disposition.

However, things don't go according to plan as Dergoz's mission takes him to a secret base, and he's furious with Bex for putting herself in danger. When an enemy boards their ship, Dergoz's gruff exterior begins to crack as he fights to keep them both safe. Meanwhile, Bex must decide if she's brave enough to show Dergoz the love he craves.

"For you I would be monstrous. For you I would burn the world and everything in it, just for you to forgive me. Just for one look. One kiss."

Hi, yes. Hello. I am in love with a green, tailed alien named Dergoz. If he has a million fans, I'm one of them. If he has one fan, it's me. If he has no fans, I'm dead. There isn't a single thing I wouldn't do for him. I swear January Bell wrote this book with me in mind and conjured up Dergoz with my ideal alien in mind. I'm sorry but that quote?!?! How could you not expect me to be absolutely GONE for this man?

Bex was an icon. A relatable AF icon. A fellow alien/monster romance reader who gets essentially sold off by her government to this alien race (who don't know they came without knowledge of what was happening to them) honestly hit the jackpot with this.

I'm literally obsessed with this series and especially with this book!

The heroine was so annoying. She kept throwing herself at the hero. He was upset because he heard her call him a monster. She reads a lot of romance novels with monsters in them so she giving him a compliment. She finally explains that to him.

She also kept using slang from Earth knowing that the hero's translator couldn't translate it. It was so annoying having her explain over and over what she actually meant.

Honestly the best part of the book was the Arco (alien mermaid people) who convince half of the human women rescued from the alien jail to go to Arco instead of Sevua where the hero is from. He tells the women there is a shortage of women there and they will be honored guests. If they decide to choose a mate they will be treated like queens.

I've edited my review. The author just released a short story about the Arcon (alien mermaid people) called Alien Tides, in March 2023. So it looks like she is planning another series with the Arcon as the heroes.

At the end of the book hero and heroine are having a bachelor party and a bachelorette party because she said she wanted a real wedding like on Earth. Hero tells his friends he has been reading romance novels from earth and they involve orcs and kidnapping and saying Mine. The other aliens are very interested in the kidnapping idea.

We find out at the end of the book that two of the hero's friends kidnapped their mates and they are now missing.
