"A marvelous sequel to Huron Breeze. It's thrilling and absorbing—a wonderful whodunit mystery." —David Dobiasek, "The Voice" of Best Thriller Books
Labor Day Weekend—one last taste of summer.
In the quiet, sunrise-side town of Hampstead, Michigan, Rachel Roberts descends the stairs in her beach house, ready to sit on the back deck, have a glass of wine, and feel the Huron breezes come in from the water as the stars start to glow in the night sky above.
But everything changes when she sees headlights coming down her driveway. As the vehicle approaches, she becomes both excited and puzzled. Excited, because the vehicle belongs to her friend, retired Hampstead P.I. Obadiah Ben-David. Puzzled, because she has no idea why he is paying her an evening visit.
She soon learns that death has returned to Hampstead.
There has been an apparent murder-suicide involving the dazzling, socialite couple Artie and Misty Jensen in their mansion located in the posh, gated, beach-side neighborhood of Falcon Crest, and Ben-David has been asked to lend a hand as Hampstead's new P.I. has been called away to deal with a family emergency. Ben-David is confident that it will be a quick visit to Falcon Crest. Whereas the murder case last summer was mystifying and treacherous, this one seems to be straightforward. Nevertheless, he would like for Rachel to be a second set of eyes for him when he examines the crime scene.
She accepts.
She shouldn't have.
For when the final days of summer arrive, the temperatures begin to cool . . . and the Huron nights heat up.
If you are a fan of James Patterson, Janet Evanovich, Robert B. Parker, Louise Penny, Michael Connelly, Nora Roberts, John D. MacDonald, Lisa Gardner, John Grisham's Camino series, or the TV series Castle, you'll enjoy Huron Nights, Landon Beach's Great Lakes Saga, and Landon Beach's stand-alone psychological thriller, Narrator.

If around the holidays you allow yourself indulgences, as many of us do, I say don’t be stingy with yourself; pick up Landon Beach’s new banger, Huron Nights, a book generous of spirit and sure to knock your knickers off like the rest of his hits.
Like conch stuffing buried inside a butter-basted turducken, this text is rich - rich with mystery; rich with familiar, intriguing characters; rich with Great Lakes culture; rich with romance you pine to see succeed and lusting depravity you devotedly hope to see wreck its purveyors; rich with fascinating architecture, described masterfully by Beach; rich with crime scenes you can almost smell while his protagonists attempt to make sense of a horrifying scenario; rich especially with the internal navigation of a masterful author as she unearths the creative inspirations necessary for her next great work. I don’t mean to carve this whole bird for you, but I cannot help but give credit where it is due. This is another magnificent text, and Beach is unsparing in everything he offers his readers in this one.
One of my favorite teachers and mentors once persuaded us to reread texts we loved, liking the process to the joys of revisiting old friends we miss connecting with. While this book is novel in all the ways you hope for, especially in a murder mystery, I felt, in the process of reading it, like I was kicking it again with some old friends; not only do I enjoy the familiar characters and feeling the warmth of both lasting and evolving bonds between them, I appreciate that Beach’s now familiar, stalwart style lends me the confidence of my friends who have, over and over again, proven trustworthy.
Life is too short to be stingy with yourself, so be kind and get this book in your hand. Dip your bread in the gravy. Melt cheese on your taters. Crumble up some bacon for your beans. Be basty. We all deserve to feel rich sometimes.
I am very intrigued and impressed by the authors ability to mix two plots - the actual story plot + the fictional writers Adrienne Astra plot - and the mystery within the mystery of Riley Cannons identity.
I will say, I despised Mark Jensen’s entire character and was throughly surprised with the epic plot twist at the end of the novel.
Cannot wait for the next in the series: the Adrienne Astra novel teasers sound epic!
I loved this book! It was a true page turner, and I finished it in less than 3 days. I love the storyline and can't wait to read the next in the series.
The follow-up to Huron Breeze is strong stuff: a perfect sequel and a great mystery on its own. Beach’s lovable detectives root around in the hot-tub murder-suicide of a wealthy couple, and everyone has lots of reasons to lie. It’s constant fun watching Obadiah and Rachel grill the rest of the high-and-low cast as they home in: Beach’s Hampstead people are hilarious, infuriating, recognizable, and never predictable. The novel is full of conversations that gradually unfold suspects (and detectives), ironing them smooth so their hidden sins and graces show. The rich ones are invariably nastier than the rest, and Obadiah’s slow burn at their duplicity builds to a completely magical explosion, a Labor Day treat. I’m already looking forward to the next book!
Beach brought favorite characters back from his preview book Huron Breeze! In another mystery which combines action and compelling characters I enjoyed his story line and plot twists! Note to author: keep this series coming!
Wow! Another 5 Star winner for Landon Beach! If you liked Rachel Roberts and Obidiah Ben-David solving a murder mystery in Huron Breeze, you will love them together once again solving more murders in Huron Nights. Roberts is a famous writer who is stuck trying to finish her novel while keeping her identity hidden. Ben-David, a don’t-mess-with-me retired veteran cop is filling in for the local investigator and reaches out to Rachel to join forces again to help solve the recent murders of Artie and Misty Jenson. They are the owners of the most prestigious estate on Lake Huron. Any one of the characters could have had a motive to murder the Jensons….the lazy, somewhat cut off entitled online gaming son, Mark Jensen….one of the envious socialite neighboring couples….a townie, Joey Pavin, who runs a local seedy hotel….an online gamer and drifter, Curt Ballard.…or someone else??!! While we get to know new and interesting characters in Huron Nights, Beach also weaves in some former favorites, one being Roberts’ agent, the sarcastic, quick-witted Topaz. She adds laugh-out-loud humor and we can’t get enough of her! As the murder mystery solving continues, Rachel’s writing is not only again ignited, but she finds a new beginning. Beach weaves together another perfect read with twists, imagination, and constant suspense. The book grabbed my attention from the first to the last page. His art of writing and bringing it all together are genius with nothing left unsettled. His masterful description of characters and setting make you feel like you are part of the story. Huron Nights is a must read and I didn’t want it to end. How Beach expertly intertwines the lives of his characters, reminds me of the great detective stories of novelist, Agatha Christie! If you’re looking for a new author, look no further than Landon Beach. His winning books can be enjoyed by everyone!
Ug...this book could have been worse, nah, I'm just kidding - it is awful. I have a conspiracy theory that Riley Sager and Charlie Donlea are actually women, posing as men, hoping to get more male readers. Landon Beach is, I believe, a married couple, Landon and Beach Jones(?). I think Landon writes the female parts and Beach writes the female parts, explaining why this book is so BAD!
I began writing this even as Scott Brick was whining his way to the finish. Yes, whining, not winding, Scott Brick is the worst, he makes a bad book worse as in this case, he can make a great book, terrible. So even before the finish, I kept saying to myself, "I know where this is headed. Landon Beach is going to pull a Jeffrey Archer and make Ariane Astrid or whatever the heck her name is have a series of her own, "in real life", I pleaded don't do it!" But alas, LB has done it. There is zero chance I can stomach that bit of absurdity.
I also think that LB may be the speech writer for Kamala Harris, the word salad thrust upon the "dear reader" in this tome defies explanation. The tall retired detective, whatever his name is, and the lead female character, whatever her name is spent well over an hour of reading time at 1.7 speed eating at a Country Club. Yes, over an hour, for NOTHING! None of the encounters at the CC helped move the story along. It was mind-numbing.
Further, does LB even know how a CC works, especially an exclusive, private club? You can't just show up and eat dinner. You MUST be a member, especially when the real members are billionaires. Those folks don't want to wine and dine with the riff-raff. Absurd, do some research.
I used to like LB, I really did, but this POS and the Narrator have done me in.
Huron Nights is one of those whodoneit’s you can hardly put down! The author takes you on a merry-go-round as you try to figure out who the culprit(s) are. Is it one person or two or a group? What I loved is that it wasn’t easy to figure out, and I didn’t figure it out until it was revealed, which is hard to pull off these days. In addition to the mystery itself, I loved the continuing relationships from the first installment – Huron Breeze – and enjoyed watching the main characters continue in their growing synchrony as an investigative team while also developing personally. The two main characters have depth and draw you in. You like them, and they hold your attention throughout the story. As in the first novel, the author weaves together the mystery in this book with the mystery being written by one of the main characters. I loved watching the two stories unfold side by side. The psychological issues were portrayed well, and the in-depth glimpse of the gaming world was awesome as well as disturbing. Bravo on the commentary slipped in. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series and highly recommend this one. If you haven’t read Huron Breeze, you might want to start there and keep going!
Landon Beach has done it again! Racheal (an international best-selling author writing under a pen name) is facing serious writer’s block when her friend and private investigator pulls her into an apparent murder-suicide in a posh community on Lake Huron. Each time they think they have a working theory of the case, the ground shifts under them and they must unravel a new thread in the mystery. Racheal’s plot for her newest novel and the plot behind the murder mystery unfold together, feeding on each other to an exciting climax.
Action right from the starting gate, this murder mystery/thriller is a thoroughbred that keeps you on your toes. Fascinating characters, unexpected twists, and great dialogue make this a winner! The story line reminded me of the kind of clues and twists in the novels of Agatha Christie – great fun!
Huron Nights is a sequel to Huron Breeze, which also features Rachel, the secretive best-selling author, and her investigator friend. Both are highly recommended!
This page-turner left me sifting through clues, imagining alternate motives, and ultimately gasping out loud when the nail in the coffin was revealed -- another excellent whodunit from Landon Beach! Huron Nights returns to small-town northern Michigan for another mystery with my favorite platonic buddy-cop duo. Reading about them is like seeing old friends. Their dynamic breaks the typical tropes and delivers a magnetic, at times enviable, co-working relationship that gets answers. No mucking about; just business. My kind of team! Rachel really nails it as the strong female protagonist I love to see in novels. But she's complex, with honest feelings and a restless mind -- I can relate! Fans of Landon Beach will appreciate the Easter eggs sprinkled throughout this novel however, you certainly don't need to read the others to get completely absorbed in this engaging mystery. Highly recommend!
“Huron Nights” is an amazing sequel to Landon Beach’s first book in the series “Huron Breeze”! We get to see a romantic side to Rachel and how an event from years ago has shaped who she is and why. We get to see inside her struggle to mesh who she really is with her pen persona, and it all coincides with another murder mystery she and Ben-David are trying to solve. We travel with Rachel from Michigan to Key West, from the exclusive community in Huron Heights to the famous Sloppy Joe’s in the southernmost part of Florida, and get some insight as to why Rachel is so alone and so secretive. This is a winner of a novel - I can’t recommend it enough!
It was sooooooo much fun to have another adventure with the two main characters from Huron Breeze. I really enjoyed the first book and the sequel didn't disappoint. The relationship between characters picked right up where it left off. This was a great story with enough twists and characters to keep me guessing and plenty of detail and development to keep me fully engaged. To me, there was a 'second' twist at the end of the book that I didn't see coming and really got me thinking about relationships...past and present. Thanks Landon Beach!
This book is about writing a thriller. Most of this story is about 4 murders. It sets up a convoluted set of circumstances and a number of suspects. Unlike most books the solution comes in rush at the end two years after real time. I was discombobulated when I read the wrap up. It all made sense but why the rush. Then I read the epilogue which put the circumstances of the murder in its place. This book wasn’t about the crime. It was about Rachael. An excellent and original idea and a satisfying ending.
I am absolutely glad I had read Huron Breeze first, because it gave me a frame of reference for all things Riley Cannon. This is an outstanding book, but I did have to seclude myself in order to keep track of the relationships in all of their complexities, to follow the wealth, and to, of course, follow the lurid sexual encounters and hidden relationships. And what fun it was-until well after midnight last night. Rachel Roberts and Obadiah Ben-David return from Huron Breeze with a simple background investigation that does not stay simple for long. And, obviously, Rachel will end up helping with this query, all the way to more than one ending. Lessons learned lead to cascading catastrophic consequences, with wealth and who has it and who wants it colliding with at lease one person who wants happiness and recognition ahead of family money. And do not forget that there are no bounds to what some people will do for money… When the audible book comes out I plan to listen to it just for the fun of it, and pretend I don’t recall the characters and their involvements in Falcon Crest. And if you know who Riley Cannon is, please don’t tell the others!

I've always wanted a glimpse into the lifestyles of the rich and famous and this book, although fiction, helped me quench that thirst a bit. Neat characters, some familiar, some new, helped build suspense and intrigue throughout. I was hoping for a different outcome in the Key West but then again, you can't win them all. Nice book, looking forward to the next one. Hoping the series on Adrienne Astra comes to life.
Very interesting multiple murder mysteries. Rachel and Obadiah take off again on a search for answers to the murders in the quiet town of Hampstead Michigan. I found the many story lines intersecting the crimes a bit much, more emphasis on the oft repeated sexual high-jinks of the community more an issue than character development or solving the current crimes.
This murder mystery takes place in Michigan’s upper lower peninsula . Rachel Roberts with secrets of her own , teams with Obadiah Ben-David , a retired professional investigator to solve an apparent murder-suicide of an affluent married couple . With a cast of characters, the sleuths uncover a trail of greed, sexual affairs, lies and jealousy. It’s a very long read but it’s a page turner .
I love a series and hate it when my characters end. This is another great mystery and I love that Landon Beach books can be audiobooks too! Take your winter vacation on the beach or your next snow day and snuggle down and read this great book! I love a good unseen twist and Huron Nights delivers.
Huron Nights is the sequel to an incredibly captivating and well-written mystery saga that features the intelligent, intuitive, platonic investigating-duo I fell in love with in the first book. Rachel Roberts and Obadiah Ben-David are faced with another intense, high-stakes summer season as they investigate a supposed murder-suicide in an upper class community where gossip and decades of secrets will slowly come unraveled. One of my favorite elements of the book is Rachel simultaneously developing her own novel based on the events she endures throughout the story. I can't recommend this book enough! 5/5 writing, story-telling, and character-development.
Really enjoying this series! It’s winter for me, but I’m acting like I’m lying on the beach and plowing through the books. It’s fun guessing along with the characters as to who is the killer. The characters are well developed. On to the next book!
As always, Landon Beach delivers with a fantastic story and believable characters. I do prefer the audiobook versions as Scott Brick does such an amazing job of delivering the story so well.
A total waste of my time and Audible credit. The book was less than stellar but what made it worse was the narrator. He was soooo melodramatic that I wanted to spit up.
Landon Beach does it again! He has written a complex, highly entertaining who done it mystery. I could not put it down. I love to guess who the murderer is and I had to change my mind so many times. Rachel and Obidiah make a great team again. I am so glad he decided to make this a series. I am looking forward to the next one!
I believe you will really enjoy Huron Nights by Landon Beach. This was a fun mystery to read. The story is unique in that you get to follow the storyline in two books. This one and the story by the main character. I hope you like this book as much as I did.
