We love Charlie and Mouse! They perfectly capture and mundane and funny parts of childhood.

First sentence: Mom was in the kitchen. Mouse was in the kitchen, too. "Mouse!" said Mom. "You are making a mess." "Mom!" said Mouse. "You are making a mess." "I am not just making a mess," said Mom. "I am making dinner." "Well," said Mouse, "I am not just making a mess either. I am making a potion. It is a magic potion."

Charlie and Mouse are back again in Charlie and Mouse are Magic. There are four stories in this early reader/early chapter book: "Magic," "Invisible," "Animals," and "More Magic."

I love how all the stories flow into one another. I love how the narrative is relatable both to children AND to adults. I love that the whole story seems to read on two levels.

I love, love, love, love, love, love, love, crazy love, love, love the Charlie and Mouse stories by Laurel Snyder. These characters are among my favorite and best characters ever. Highly recommended.

Just to note--for better or worse--to the delight of giggly children, perhaps--the kids do get nude in some scenes (as they are playing outside when they think they are invisible...and when they are drying from the subsequent bath.)

Mouse is making a magic potion and won't clear out of the way for Mom making dinner. But when his magic potion works and he gets his wish he goes outside with Charlie. The two boys are convinced they are invisible and get up to antics thinking no one can see them, then they clean up and bring a whole crowd of animals to dinner. After dinner they introduce Dad to the magic potion and make more wishes, but it only seems to work for one of them.

I have mixed feelings about this one. I felt like Mouse was a little sassy with his mother in the first chapter, but the way she acts later makes me think I read it wrong and she was already grumpy. The boys get a little risqué when they think no one can see them and they decide to run around naked in the rain (only bare butts shown on page). The ending redeemed the book for me and made me laugh.

Charlie and Mouse are back! In this installment, Mouse makes a magic potion that he believes will - with just a small drop on the nose - grant a wish! And it works! Mouse's cookie wish is granted. As usual, Charlie and Mouse create a small amount of mischief. But baths and pot pie for dinner help.

A fine series of first chapter books, I always enjoy Charlie & Mouse's adventures. They portray a slice of realistic life with humor and fun. Just have materials on hand to create your own magic potion. And some cookies - just in case!

This whole series is just a gentle early reader experience. This one especially gave me Bluey vibes, but the whole series does a nice job at balancing the imaginative experiences of the kids with the parenting perspective of the adults.

In this story we have some magic afoot, including some potion-making and some invisibility. Somehow the most ordinary moments are made lovely.

Mouse invents a potion that grants wishes - at least that is what he think it does. More charming fun with Charlie and Mouse

I thought this book was very cute and entertaining. I like the three different stories told in the book all being connected but different.
