Caroline Watson has been living at Mrs. Hardy’s School for Girls since she was orphaned. When forced into marriage by the headmistress, she plots a desperate escape the night before to the furthest place her money will take her.
Even as he tells himself he is uninterested in the beautiful brunette who appeared off the stagecoach like an angel, Dr. Edward Mason finds himself attracted to Caroline. Still, he’s determined that no one is going to tempt him into a relationship ever again.
Pushed together, Edward offers Caroline a job. Just as she’s comfortable and settled in, a strange man comes to town and follows her. Now she’s faced with a choice. Ask for help or run again.
Sarah Lamb is wife to an amazing teacher and mom to two boys who are growing up just a little too fast. Her day job is helping others to become writers, while she squeezes in each spare moment she can on her own books. She spends her days working and writing in the Blue Ridge Mountains and planning her next trip to Disney World.
This is another great book in the Runaway Brides of the West series. This is Caroline and Edward's story. It's a sweet love story that makes you feel good. Caroline is an orphan that has been promised in marriage to the Headmistress' brother. He is much older than Caroline and she doesn't want to marry him. Her friend, Mary helps her escape to the furthest place her money will take her, which is Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. Upon arriving there, she meets Edward, who is the town doctor. He directs her to Mrs. Meeks boarding house, which is where he stays too. When Caroline tells Mrs. Meeks that she needs a job, she talks Edward into hiring her. She is an excellent employee and had helped her father, who was also a doctor, in his practice. Starting out as friends and co-workers, they slowing start developing feelings for each other. But, trouble has followed Caroline to town or is she imagining it? Read this great book to find out what happens. I loved the characters and Mrs. Meeks is something else. The plot of the book was interesting and kept me turning pages to see what happened next. A great book, that I recommend, especially if you like historical western romance. I look forward to reading more by author Sarah Lamb.
An orphan at twelve, Caroline was placed in a girls' school where, once her education was finished, she was employed to work as household help. Unfortunately, the proprietress intended to marry Caroline off to her disgusting brother, an aging creep in need of a wife to meet the terms of an inheritance. Not knowing her rights, Caroline flees to the town of Cottonwood Falls, where she finds a room to rent with the kindly Mrs. Meeks, and a job at the office of the handsome Dr. Mason. This is a well-paced romance that hits all the right beats. Caroline has a background that fits nicely with the conclusion, which is surprisingly suspenseful. Recommended.
I loved this! I devoured it in one sitting. Caroline is forced to leave the Orphanage when her Guardian is trying to marry her off. She ends up in a delightful new town, with a new job assisting the local Doctor. Will this fresh start be just what she needs? Is she safe from danger now? This was a wonderful, clean, sweet story. I loved Caroline and the Doctor's characters as well as their "helpful" landlady. This book and the first book are my favourites in the series so far. I know I'll be rereading this one day. It was clean and just gave a warm, cozy feeling while I was reading it. You've got to try it!
Unwanted marriage spurs Caroline to action and thankfully her unplanned trip ends with a Mrs. Meeks to help direct her survival. Let's face it, every frontier doctor could use help and that has nothing to do with Caroline's new friend being a matchmaker at heart. You can bet on that! But will those plans come to fruition or will Mrs. Meeks finally lose a bet? I loved the town characters. Sometimes it's so good to pick up a light and entertaining book when you need a pock-me-up. This is a wonderful, simple and action packed romance geared for any age. It's nice to know there are clean, wholesome romances that are easy to recommend to anyone.
Caroline's parents were killed in a wagon accident when she was 12. A family friend was made guardian of her so she grew up in a girls finishing school in KS. She is now 22. After she aged out, she stayed on to work at the school. Mrs. Hardy has now decided that she will marry.....her brother who is in his 50s. Caroline runs away. She takes the stage to as far as her money will take her. When she arrives, she meets Dr. Edward Mason. He takes her to the boarding house where he lives. Mrs. Meeks gives her room and board and says she'll help her find a job. She suggests that Dr. Mason needs an assistant. When he learns that her father was a doctor, he is impressed. As she works with his books and notes, she also assists with patients. He is quite impressed that she sticks in there even when it's a very precarious situation. Caroline confides in Mrs. Meeks that Mr. Hardy may come after her. Since she is of age, she doesn't have to marry him. Then they tell Edward. When the Hardy's show up and kidnap both Caroline and Edward, they have to work together to survive. Such a good book.
She may be a busy body but Mrs Meeks is exactly what Caroline and Edward need, they are both quiet and shy, happy to help others and live a humble life, but they spend so long dancing around each other and ignoring the sparks. Without Mrs Meeks matchmaking they may never have embraced their love. Caroline and Edward are two really sweet and selfless characters who you cannot help but like and I love that Mary also finds her way too. A really cute addition to the series, I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
This is a sweet love story with lots is adventure and excitement.Caroline is an orphan and has lived at the girls school. Now the school mistress has explained that she is to marry the head mistresses unsavory brother. She is petrified at that idea. The cook helps Caroline to escape and run. Here money will only take her so far on the train. She arrives at Cotton wood Falls and decides this is where she wants to stay. You will enjoy discovering how they find their happily ever after.
A sweet and clean romance. Caroline is orphaned at a young age and taken advantage of as she grew to an adult. Trying to escape an arranged marriage, she runs away. There is a happily-ever-after ending. There were two things I wanted to know about that weren’t answered. One Caroline’s inheritance…I wanted her to recover it, and two where did the uncle come from? Why wouldn’t he have been Caroline’s guardian?
short book she was in a orphanage after her dad a dr and mom died in a accident she was 19 and the head of the orphanage was forcing her to marry her brother so he could get a inheritance she ran away and found a boarding house with a dr in it and he hired her to be his assistant they fell in love but the woman and her brother showed up and kidnapped both of them the sheriff saved them and they got married

Caroline was a sweetheart who strove to be cooperative, but found she had to flee when someone took advantage of her good nature. I loved the hypothetical town where she ended up. The characters were heartwarming. As Caroline became more herself, she developed her interests. Sweet romance led to a lovely ending.
New to me author! I really enjoyed Caroline’s story. She was all alone in the world and found she was basically being sold to a nasty older man for money. Thankfully, a nice coworker helped her escape. When she arrived to her destination, she had no where to love and no job. But then, she met Dr. Edward Mason ❤️
There is a rotten apple in the Mrs. Hardy School for Girls barrel and Caroline is fortunate to escape. God was smiling on her when she reaches the end of her money and falls at the feet of Dr. Edward Mason. It could have been a case of out of the frying pan into the fire, but Edward is just who Caroline needs. I enjoyed this story by Sarah Lamb. She is a new to me author but I will be following her for more stories.
Caroline has lived a life serving others in some capacity her whole life. When the thought of an arranged marriage at the hands of the head mistress comes about she flees town to start a new life of her own choosing. Edward is a small town doctor and loves helping others. I found this historical read very sweet look forward to reading more from this author.
I always enjoy books with strong intelligent characters who have great integrity and love to serve others. This book has all that, plus some intriguing, and tension, coupled with a great town and warm, caring characters. I really enjoyed it. Ok. It's shorter than I usually like, but it had all the necessary ingredients for a good afternoon's read.
Reading Caroline: Runaway Brides of The West was a pleasure. Caroline has had enough, when Mrs Hardy decides to marry her off. She runs as far as her money will take her. When she reaches the town of Cottonwood Falls, she knows this is where she should be. She meets Dr Edward Mason and her life is changed forever. They don’t have to run no more.
As Caroline is aided in her flight from a forced marriage, she has to learn to take charge of her own future. Meeting Edward is a blessing and calls forth pleasant memories of aiding her parents.
This is a wonderfully sweet story that I really enjoyed. Being forced into marriage, Caroline runs away to escape the situation. Traveling as far as her limited money takes on the stagecoach, she finds friends and love!
Loved this book! The perfect sweet escape to a calm and simple lifestyle from the past. The characters and their challenges are realistic and refreshing. It's especially nice to see Caroline believe in herself and find love. Looking forward to reading more from this author.

A sweet romance story. The main character is running away from an unexpected arranged marriage. When she ends up in her new town, she ends up working for the local doctor. Their journey is not without trial, but it works out in the end.
This is the first book that I have read by Sarah Lamb and I will be reading more of her books. Loved the story of Caroline and Edward...and you gotta love Mrs. Meeks!
