A ver, ni mal ni bien. Primero, es que me da pereza que todo ocurra en Estados Unidos, pero bueno. Luego, me gustó que Brutus secuestrara a Hailey, pero es que él era demasiado perfecto, no sé. Muy poca posesividad para ser un Bigfoot de esos. Y también es que hay muy poco conflicto entre ellos. Hailey se resiste medio día, la verdad.
Es verdad que me ha gustado cómo Brutus trataba a Hailey y que fuera respetuoso con ella y lo del conflicto con la otra tribu también ha estado bien.
Eso sí, el *trauma* que me ha dado lo del mating call, que todo el mundo se entere de que f0ian... YO POR AHÍ NO PASO.
Es verdad que me ha gustado cómo Brutus trataba a Hailey y que fuera respetuoso con ella y lo del conflicto con la otra tribu también ha estado bien.

Me ha recordado en cierta manera a alguna de las historias de S.J. Sanders por la escritura de la autora y la cadencia de la historia. El desarrollo es lento, a pesar de que está el tema del destino, la relación entre ambos se va desarrollando con el tiempo.
Me ha gustado bastante así que seguiré con la historias del resto de los hermanos de Brutus.

Although this book is the first story of a planned series, it is a standalone story. I am usually a fan of seeing two very different mates (Sasquatch and human in this book), try to navigate and understand another culture. There are some humorous scenes, but it just seems weird to me that the Sasquatch was so familiar with human things, language and some of the culture. There isn’t a lot of drama or angst (or surprises) in the story, so it fell a bit flat for me. Overall, I gave this a 3 star review for no obvious typos, some character development and decent world building.

Mountains, a sweet brute of a beast, and a lady who is just trying to figure things out. And by that, I mean the lady is trying to figure out what to do with herself after a breakup (caused in part by dreams she keeps having of a handsome beasts in the mountains). What she absolutely doesn't expect is to find said handsome beast when he shows up at her cabin claiming she's his.
Brutus, on the other hand, expects to find Hailey (eventually) thanks to a handy vision that clues him in on what's coming for his tribe. Sure, sure, Hailey is a little less enthusiastic about being carted away to the tribal caves than he thought she'd be, but she'll figure things out. Eventually.
As these two work on getting to know one another, Hailey also gets a crash course in a new culture and has to come to terms with maybe possibly probably living in a cave without human creature comforts for the rest of her life (don't worry, she and Brutus work that part out nicely).
An untamed wilderness, a dangerous enemy, a hulk of a Sasquatch with a gentle touch, and a lady who finds her place on a mountain. Good stuff.

Hailey is not in the best position of her life. She just caught her fiance cheating on her and is heart broken. Her best friend travels to another planet to find her HEA and she is all alone. A trip to recharge and to gather her next steps brought her into Brutus life. Brutus is not human(a lot like a sasquatch) and as soon as he sees Hailey he just knows she is his One. He kidnaps her and now just has to convince her that they are perfect for each other 😏 They fall in love with each other and learn how they can live together despite being from different species. Insta-love , fated mates , steamy, romantic, with action and safe with a sweet HEA 😍😍😍😍😍 I love how they interacted with each other👍

This was a fab series opener and a well written story. There was so much chemistry between Chief Brutus and Hailey. The world building really allowed me to be fully immersed in this story and I really couldn't put it down. Prophetic dreams, humour, suspense and a fated mate romance, with steam ;P, were well played out and I can't wait for the next book.

Painfully cheesy
I just couldn't. I made it to 25% and threw in the towel. The dialogue was grade Z campy cheese off a bad skin flick. Insta hormones. You're dealing with dueling dystopian, alien and cryptozoology beings. With a side of mate dream visions tossed for extra chaos. Apparently humanity has gained space travel and colonization of new worlds but is also burning Earth to the ground. Trigger warnings for the horrific deaths of 2 humans who were in a crashed plane. What he called justice read more like a tantrum on top of grief. Oh, and the cryptozoological beings have super powers but are still dying out. The only, only good thing I can say about the parts I read was at least he realized that she had gotten drunk (because of course she did) and didn't take away her choice during her inebriation.

It is bad. The conversations felt so stiff and unnatural, that I couldn’t read without cringing. Some stuff made no sense. And she changes her mind way too often. At times he was super dominant, but most of the time he gave off some golden retriever, people-pleaser energy, so the moments when he decided to go all alpha were jarring. I wasn’t enjoying it, so I’m stopping at 30%.

Esse é o primeiro livro da série “Cascade Beasts” e eu achei a história bem simples, rápida de ler e divertida. A escrita da autora é boa, o enredo é interessante, o casal principal é fofo e o romance entre eles tem uma boa dose de caos.
Viver na Terra está cada vez mais difícil com as constantes guerras e disputas políticas, mas Hailey sente que não é seu destino deixar o planeta ao lado de sua melhor amiga para se casar com um alienígena.
Ao descobrir a traição do noivo e presenciar a raiva descabida dele, ela decide fugir da cidade e seguir na direção que seus sonhos a tem levado nos últimos meses: para a floresta das Cascatas do Norte. Porém, também é nestes sonhos que Hailey se encontra segura e aconchegada com uma criatura que ela nunca viu antes e nem sabe se existe de verdade.
Brutus é o chefe da tribo Starblessed e seu povo, os Montikaans, tem vivido escondido há centenas de anos nas florestas e montanhas da Terra. Infelizmente seu segredo está cada vez mais ameaçado, pois além dos caçadores humanos, dos incêndios e dos humanos em guerra, eles também têm que lidar com outras tribos invadindo seu território e com a recente perda de inúmeras fêmeas de sua espécie.
Trazendo esperança para o futuro da tribo Starblessed, o falecido pai de Brutus revela em uma visão que a companheira predestinada do filho e as de vários outros machos Montikaans são na verdade mulheres humanas.

Achei engraçado o quão confiante o Brutus é, ele realmente não percebeu o quão assustador era para a Hailey! Claramente há uma grande diferença cultural entre a espécie dele e os humanos e só por isso não considerei o comportamento dele abusivo.
Na verdade o Brutus é muito doce, sempre pensando em agradar a Hailey, em amar e ser amado por ela e em construir uma boa vida ao lado dela. Ele fica fascinado por ela, além de passar a se sentir mais feliz e menos solitário ao redor dela.
Já a Hailey é um pouco pessimista e reluta muito em aceitar se tornar a companheira do Brutus, tanto por ela não gostar da ideia de desaparecer sem dar explicações para a família e os amigos quanto por temer não se encaixar na tribo dele. Porém, como Brutus é sempre carinhoso e ela se sente atraída e segura com ele, apesar do sequestro, ela percebe que ele não é uma pessoa ruim.
A Hailey nunca teve chance contra a magia do destino e a atração que sente pelo Brutus, pois ele é seu gigante gentil! Por mais que quisesse fugir, ela acabou cedendo facilmente ao vínculo de companheiros e não se arrependeu.
Hailey conseguiu seu recomeço em um belo lugar, além do lar e da família amorosa que tanto desejava. Quanto ao Brutus, ele conseguiu uma companheira como sempre quis e ela lhe deu o conhecimento necessário para derrotar seus inimigos e manter seu povo em segurança.
O livro não foi publicado no Brasil, mas em inglês é possível comprar a versão eBook na Amazon. Caso alguém tenha curiosidade, eu não consegui encontrar o livro da Candy, mas a autora tem mais de uma série com os Vaxxlians e suas companheiras.

Unfulfilled Potential
I loved the premise of Gentle Giant:
A unique First People, a man finding his mate, and how the Great Spirit prepared them for meeting one another. The original language and names were genius. However, the storyline and character development were severely limited by the emphasis on erotica throughout the book. I was skimming pages so much, I finished the book in less than an hour.
Since this writer clearly savors erotic writing, it is impressive that what character and plot development there is, is really good! However, in reality, this book is only a wonderful short story. Their erotic thoughts and behavior make up about half of the book.
There is so much potential here for world building and for the interwoven stories of these interesting people! Yet it all gets dropped on the floor, along with their clothes, in favor of the erotica.
The potential for a story with more depth and perhaps more thoroughly exploring their culture is there. By choosing erotica over the story, we miss out on seeing where this story could go.
Plus, depicting her Gentle Giant as literally stupid with lust was too dissonant to accept. It was incongruent with his leadership role and his depth of caring for others. He is someone who plans well and thinks ahead. It is actually out of character for him to kidnap her, so as a plot device it failed.
One star for the interesting and unique world building; one star for the great wordsmithing; and one star for creating such an interesting people. Two stars off for not going anywhere with all that and for not clearly indicating the amount of detailed erotica in the description.
If erotica is your favorite genre, you will enjoy this tale.
If you are looking for an absorbing and well developed story, look elsewhere.

Wonderful start to new series, great characters and scenario makes riveting read
This is a simply splendid read and I guarantee that without spoiling the plot or the surprises for you I can guarantee that once you start this book it will be totally impossible for you to put it down.
Brutus is a huge male that is from a tribe that live in the mountains and they are kind and gentle and when he’d discovered her she had been a shadow of her former self, a bad break-up and being lost she had relied and his kindness and his honesty and it had been a breath of fresh air.
She supposes that she is a captive of sorts and yet the Chief Brutus who had been daunting at first mainly because of his sheer size has become almost like a giant, cuddly bear and when she is in his arms there is no safe place!
If she decides to become the partner of Brutus it will mean that she will never be able to return to her home again or contact anyone that she knows, to all intense and purpose she will be as id deceased.
Read this fabulous story and discover her decision and find out all about Brutus and his tribe that live and flourish in the mountains high up away from prying eyes of supposed civilisation?
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.

It is a breathtaking, imaginative, creative, intriguing and amazing story from start to finish! Where do we find love? Sue Mercury shows us to keep an open mind, reach beyond our barriers and we will not only find love but we will embrace it and our lives will be enriched.
We are introduced to Hailey, who has gone through a difficult breakup and decided to retreat to a quiet vacation in the mountains. Give her bottles of wine, books, beautiful sunrises and sunsets and she’ll come back from this relationship and move on to better times. Uh, Oh! The hitch is there’s a tribe of Giant, Sasquatches living nearby! Unknown to her, a Sasquatch chief named Brutus has been dreaming of her and he is looking for her. Oh, yes, he finds her and takes him to his home in the mountains. I think that at some point we might all have been Hailey. Things not quite right and you cannot put your finger on why. Brutus, for all his size and his name, is far from a brute. He just wants someone to love and to share his life with. Loved both these characters and how their interactions grew.
Hailey is not exactly living her best life. Let's face it she just spent the night sleeping in the bathroom after catching her fiancé cheating and when she confronted him he went just a lil' bit loco. Her best friend is leaving to find a forever mate on new Vaxx and this is something that Hailey feels she should also want but something is holding her here on Earth. It is certainly not her family but maybe it has something to do with the strange dreams she is having? Either way she thinks that getting back to nature is what is going to help heal her. Yep, nature... you could call Brutus part of nature. He is definitely not human and would best be described, by someone who didn't know, as a Sasquatch. He had a vision of sorts where his father spoke to him and showed him his future mate. She was not like him, she was human. This would explain why he had not felt anything much towards the females in his own tribe. He feels that she is coming to him but he is just not sure that he can wait that long. Still he makes a best guess about where she be when she arrives and set out to keep watch. The moment that he senses she is near that's it. “I was the pessimistic bookish introvert…”
Hailey realized, the heartbreaking way, that her current relationship was over… and what better time to pack some bags, take a vacation, get out of war torn dodge, and try to find a new job and a happier life?
Brutus wouldn’t say his people were on good term with humans, but he’s aware things need to change, and a vision encourages him to give a specific human woman a chance. More than that, as Chief, that vision lets him know human women are going to matter to other of his people as well, so he realizes he has to lead, even as he tries to court her, and win her over.
This done in one story has some really interesting world building, and ties in to the Vaxxlian Matchmakers and Vaxxlian Mail Order Brides books/universe.
I found myself loving how Brutus and Hailey were each tryii To understand the others culture and expectations, to give one another a chance rather than risk throwing something away. Hailey realized, the heartbreaking way, that her current relationship was over… and what better time to pack some bags, take a vacation, get out of war torn dodge, and try to find a new job and a happier life?
Brutus wouldn’t say his people were on good term with humans, but he’s aware things need to change, and a vision encourages him to give a specific human woman a chance. More than that, as Chief, that vision lets him know human women are going to matter to other of his people as well, so he realizes he has to lead, even as he tries to court her, and win her over.
This done in one story has some really interesting world building, and ties in to the Vaxxlian Matchmakers and Vaxxlian Mail Order Brides books/universe.
I found myself loving how Brutus and Hailey were each tryii To understand the others culture and expectations, to give one another a chance rather than risk throwing something away. Touching!
Hailey is living in war torn Seattle. Earth has been at war for many years and most places are very dangerous and impossible to escape. Many women are leaving the planet as brides for aliens hopeful for a new life. When her best friend decides to leave earth, Hailey won’t go with her because she has been dreaming of a blue eyed giant and something pulls her to stay on earth. But her friend manages to sneak her out of the city and she rents a cabin in the cascades for several months.
Brutus is the Chief of his Montikaan Tribe. Their tribe has suffered many losses and the latest one killed over 20 of their females. He has a vision where his father tells him they are destined to mate with human females and he sees Hailey. He has dreamed of her for a couple of months before he finds her in the cabin.
Their first meeting is pretty hilarious and he carts her off to the cavern where the tribe lives. A gentle journey to love with a little danger thrown in!.

This was an enjoyable monster romance which I was intrigued enough with to give a read and wasn’t disappointed.
Taking place sometime in Earths future the story of Brutus and Hailey is sweet and engaging with the right amount of humor and spice to make it a good read in the fantasy romance genre.
After a breakup with her fiancé and in need of solace Hailey with an assist from her best friend Candy has decided to get back to nature for a while. Renting a cabin deep in the North Cascades National Park she is totally surprised when a Sasquatch begins a knock ‘in on her door speaking English no less!
They’ve both had dreams of each other, and their uniting has been prophesied but it’s up to Brutus leader of his tribe to convince Hailey they are fated mates.
The world building around the Sasquatch culture was imaginative and very creative within a perfectly paced story. Good writing and some adventure made their story a very delightful read.

This book had me drawn in from the very first page and kept me glued to the pages that I read it in one sitting. Hailey is recovering from the break up from her ex fiancée after he cheated on her and she decided to get away for a while to the mountains with her books and wine to just forget about everything and it’s go well until a giant hairy Sasquatch knocks on her door telling her she is his fated mate she is so shocked and doesn’t know what to do because Sasquatches where never on the brochure from the Airbnb. Now she has been abducted by this giant Sasquatch named Brutus of the Montikaan tribe and the more time she spends with him and his tribe she realizes he is a big softy especially when it comes to her and her needs and she finds that she likes it when he is protective and she heartbonds with him and they spend some hot and steamy nights together. Will she stay with him because he is everything she wants in a man or does she return back to her old life. Great book.

Brutus is the leader of the Starblessed tribe. Along with his cousin Axxon and brothers Gorran and Mastorr, they are all Montikaan. When a vessel crashes and takes the lives of 25, it is heartbreaking. Their tribe is small and the loss of females is devastating. But Brutus has a vision and that vision shows him his mate, a human. Hailey just wants out of the city. Her friend Candy was going to New Vaxx to find her mate. That wasn’t what Hailey wanted. She was drawn to the Cascades. Fate is bringing Brutus and Hailey together. When a force unknown to the Montikaan comes to destroy them, it’s Hailey that shows her true knowledge and devotion to the tribe. I love that there was talk about New Vaxx. That was a great series. Even though the tribe members are not alien’s, they are peaceful and just as kind and protective as the Vaxxilian. Looking forward to Gorran’s story in Savage Giant.

He recognizes her as his fated mate from a previous vision. Although Hailey is frightened at first, his kindness and care is allowing her to develop deeply emotional feelings. How will these two individuals from totally diverse lifestyles find a way to accept their differences and live together in peace?
I definitely recommend this fascinating story.

When he and his men get the fire out they find twenty-five dead Montihaans twenty-one of whom are females and he wonders about the future of the tribe. He has a vision which shows him the face of a human female and his father's voice telling him h will mate a human. I found Sue Mercury’s new book Gentle Giant such a fun read. It’s part of her new Cascade Beasts series and I found it such a unique twist to the average romance book. She is such a creative writer and can make you fall in love with just about anything. Gentle Giant has an amazing storyline and wonderful characters. Two people from different worlds find each other and despite the odds and fall in love. Brutus is the chieftain of the Starblessed tribe (Montikaan) and after a terrible tragedy that happened to his people he has a vision of his and his tribes future. Hailey has overcome a lot in her past and decided on a break from all the chaos that is going on in the world and decided on a vacation in the Cascades. There she meets her future and the love and happiness she that had been missing from her life. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

loved it !! a great start for a new series/ spin-off... love Hailey and Brutus.. this is their story .. a fast paced action packed drama... Brutus is the chieftain of the star blessed clan... the world has changed so much !! he must protect his people no matter what... Hailey is starting over after she catches her fiance with another woman.. the world has gone to h.ll... she goes to the only place that feels like home.. the cascades... Brutus has been waiting for her.. his vision... so... he kidnaps her... Hailey has been dreaming of him, too.. she never believed he was real.. I mean a bigfoot ... so good !!! so heartbreaking !!! next ?.

Both characters have a major life-changing event just before meeting that seems to set their paths to cross. Brutus sets out to find his fated mate to help continue the dwindling members of his community, and Hailey sets out to have a nice quiet vacation before starting a new life after breaking up with a cheating fiance. Their initial meeting and interactions are both awkward and sweet. Even if Hailey is interested in staying with the giant who carried her away, it means giving up most of her life, since Brutus' people live in hiding from humans. They continue to live in a majestic world while the world of humans comes crashing down around them.

Having fled the violence of the city behind to seek refuge in a remote mountain cabin, the last things Hailey expects is to be abducted by a Sasquatch back to his cavern home. Hailey finds herself drawn to the giant male that she had dreamed about and finds that life is his tribe is nothing like the violent world she left behind. As Brutus and Hailey spend time together, things get hot and steamy between the two as their relationship deepens. Lovely fated mates Sasquatch romance with a side of hot and steamy and a little bit of alien thrown in too - cool how the Vaxxlians are in there.

This is a well written book. The characters are awesome, Brutus is fiercely protective and also gentle, loving and kind. Hailey is feisty, lovely and the pair of them have fantastic chemistry. Brutus knows she is his mate as soon as he sees her and is determined to keep her safe and loved. If she stays with him though she won’t be allowed to leave the mountain he calls home. I loved reading their story, it’s got surprises, romance, steamy scenes and more with a happily ever after ending. I definitely recommend reading it.

She has dreamed of a hairy gentle giant and Brutus proves he is her mate. Protecting his people and their home is a challenge for them both. The book has sizzle, steam, action, drama, and compelling characters. Great read and great start to the Cascade Beasts series and it's available on KU.

First time reading this author and she did not disappoint. She truly fed my addiction of Yetis and Sasquatches.
Brutus is the chief of his tribe and the numbers are dwindling cause of low female births. But he has a "vision" that his mate is human. Hailey is in the mountains to revamp her life, get over heartbreak and see her friend off leaving the planet to be a lottery bride....who is also having "visions" of a hairy beast, a Sasquatch.
Once Brutus lays eyes on Hailey it was a done deal. For Hailey, it wasn't that simple but she gets there and realize that sometimes what is unbelievable is the truth...and so much better than you can imagine.

Our MC was indeed a gentle giant but it does not mean that he isn't fierce when it comes to protecting his tribe or his mate.
This story took a different path from the Vaxxlians, ie. the FMC remained on Eartha and found their soul mates in another species living on earth. The MMC was amazing, no wonder our FMC form a life mate and heartbound with him.
The MMC might be all hairy and tall, but this gentle giant is swoon worthy on his own.
