Uncover the mind-blowing complexities of the brain and how it affects our personalities, behaviours and more.
Written by Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at UCL, Sophie Scott, and composed of ten mind-blowing yet accessible essays, The Brain guides you through the astounding complexities of the organ that makes you, you. From diving into the networks of neurons that are vital to our functioning, to the way our brains differ from one another and how neuroscience is shaping up for the future; this book is a guide to our most powerful and awe-inspiring body part.
If you have ever wondered what's going on inside your head (or someone else's), this book will be a fascinating and enthralling read.
2.5 star. Enough fun facts, and mostly written in an accessible style. The book has no pictures of the brain, the author uses a comparison to explain the typography. The title does not completely match the contents, not everything - though interesting - is a should know imho
Bit of a dry read but worthwhile reading. 10 mini-essays (?) ranging from the evolutionary why of the brain's existence, through its structure, and onward to the ways in which we can help keep them as healthy as possible. Includes a nice section on the brains of some other animals. Mantis shrimps sound badass.
Fantastic book, well written and well presented so that also non-technical readers can enjoy. Prof. Scott whom I met at a book signing in London is a very kind and nice person. She should write more books to communicate science to the general public.
increasing my knowledge about the brain, how we can improve our cognitif ability and sensory abilities such as echolocation, sensory abilities in bats or blind people in seeing their environment, are abilities that can be trained because the brain is plasticy.
A very easy and comprehensible book to read to gain a basic understanding of our brains. Everything written was done so in simple terms with boundless information
What an incredible book I should say, it really gives you a new prespective about the brain and everything that it concerns. If you are new to this amazing field I really recommend it because it is technicall, but not that technicall, so that you can know nothing about the subject, but still understand it pretty well. Congrats Professor on this amazing book, hoping to read more of your works!
