*Part one of a trilogy. Slow burn with a Cliffhanger ending.
I was an omega—an anomaly in a world of betas. A throwback, or so the kindly doctor told me.
Then she offered me a form of chemical sterilization to take away my 'unnatural' urges.
I didn't take her up on the offer, although I was too young to understand at the time.
But I didn't fit in and never would.
Until I met William Bremmer and found a connection for the first time in my life.
But fate had other plans, and catastrophic circumstances would send me to a primitive, uncivilized land outside the wall.
A place I'd secretly fantasized about.
A place where all the alphas lived.
Content advisory for trilogy: Extremely dark, graphic content, mind-games and manipulation, SA, violence, and gore. Heroes in this book range from sweet to pitch black. Slow build whychoose romance over the course of the trilogy.
In a secret garden hidden behind a wall of shrubs and trees amid a tiny English village, you'll find L.V. Lane's writing den, where she crafts spicy adventures...Magical and mythical creatures, wolf shifters, and alphas of every flavor give our sweet, sometimes willful omegas and heroines a guaranteed HEA. If you like my books, you might also like my contemporary pen name, Verity Arden!

I am damn sure Lane watched AoT (Attack on Titans, for those who don't know) before getting the idea for this book or maybe before plotting it or anytime during the whole process of creating the series really. Because I refuse to believe this many uncanny similarities existing between the two otherwise.
The world building where there is a wall separating the civilised country of Rymor/Serenity from the primitive wilderness of Shadowland is ditto same as in AoT. And most importantly, where it is unsafe to venture outside that wall.
The other important detail where the ancients build the said wall and other technologies and the current generation has almost forgotten about the knowledge is again same.
Same with the special team of people who venture outside the wall to fulfil risky tasks and/or spying on the situation.
The evil agenda to tear down the wall and reunite both the sides is again same. Ans so on...
*sigh*
So my enjoyment of the book got hindered by this fact that I keep on noticing another plotting similarity after few pages. All the suspense and action packed scenes turned sour in my eyes.
But as this was supposed to be an RH omegaverse romance, all the branches led in that direction, specially after the second half. This was rightly labelled as a slow burn though. May we see more romantic developments in next instalment.
Lane's writing was solid though. Even after multiple POV of even side characters, it held a steady pace. Though, this book somehow felt different from her other works.
Oh, and I don't like the title of the book.
P.S- In the manga version, Eren (AoT) has grey eyes. Not green like in anime.
The second half of this book was a solid, action-packed 5-star read all the way. The complex layering of sub-plots held me spellbound and the way the story slowly unfolds to reveal more puzzles, problems and peril left me in awe. I liked the majority of characters we met - and disliked the ones we are meant to hate, the main players of Bill, Hannah and Tavis were all very distinct and solid protagonists. The writing flowed, and the tension built and I simply couldn't turn the pages quickly enough.
There are a lot of different points of view and, at first, it possibly felt like too many for first-person. I did eventually settle into the wide cast of characters and can't see how the story would work any other way, so I very much recommend "sticking it out" on this one. It did mean that whilst I was quickly drawn into the story I experienced pacing issues in the first quarter of the book. As the separate strands carried by each character had yet to converge and begin painting a picture, I wasn't sure quite where the story was heading, and that left me feeling a little adrift. Once Hannah leaves the safety of Rymor those minor issues seemed to melt away as though they had never even existed and I couldn't turn the pages of this book quickly enough.
Maybe it was me but I found the world-building a little confusing. Bill's apartment had a view of the Shadowlands but it took weeks and weeks (over a month) of travelling on horseback to reach the damaged station. The very same station that helped power the city. Were the Shadowlanders only a few miles from the wall surrounding Serenity/Rymer or hundreds of miles? I'm hoping this will be made clearer in future books, along with giving us a little more history of the different societies, how they came to be, and where they come from if they aren't all indigenous.
I am very firmly hooked on this series and can't wait to read the next book!
The Girl with the Grey Eyes was amazing! It has elements of a romance, but it is not a romance. It is an epic fantasy. It is LV Lane being a puppet master pulling the strings of numerous characters and weaving a fantastically interconnected story with science fiction, political intrigue, ABO dynamics, and a little bit of smut.
I loved the varied POVs (there are multiple 1st person POVs, including the main characters and many side characters). It made the story feel richer and gave us depth in the storytelling we wouldn’t have seen otherwise by keeping the POVs more focused on just the main characters.
It is hard to say more without giving away spoilers, but the character development and world-building are unlike other books in this genre. It is a departure from LV Lane’s prior work and I am thrilled it is part of a trilogy because it was a pleasure to read and I want more!
The Girl with the Grey Eyes is book one in a slow-burn, slow-build RH trilogy with extremely dark elements. Please check TW/CW before reading.
I couldn't must invested in this story. The heroine was a bit annoying more often than not as she came across fairly young. There were a lot of details about subplots given that just didn't interest me and after a while, I just started skimming sections. This author has always been hit or miss for me.
I'm a bit mixed in my thoughts. I would probably rate it a 3 - 3.5 for my enjoyment, but I want to give the author credit for writing a detailed and expansive fantasy story. Also I am intrigued enough that I will continue reading as the series is released.
First off, don't expect romance when you read the book (I was notified of this so it didn't affect my reading or review), although it does have elements of romance particularly tropes related to alpha, beta, omega dynamics. I would classify the book as a Dark-ish, urban-like, fantasy with some science fiction elements.
I enjoyed the Alpha Omega dynamic. I liked Nate as a character.
There are many plot points that I found intriguing, but there is also a large cast of characters so for me it was hard to settle into the story. This was my main struggle as I prefer character driven stories where I can really dove deep with the characters. I'm hoping for more development in the subsequent book.
I appreciated that this book is kicking off a whole new fantasy world with lots of layers. My understanding is that a whychoose romance aspect will develop in the future books.
Hannah is an omega living in a world of betas and polite society. Her omega side is lacking in stimulation and when she meets Bill the chancellor of Rymor she’s attracted to his dominance and power. She soon learns that there is another side to Bill that she does not like. Especially when he wants to send her to the Shadowlands to repair a power station.
Bill is set on a plan of revenge against a man living in the Shadowlands, an alpha named John Tanis. There is a lot of speculation on what happened between them. He’s set forth actions that will make it look like that John is trying to start a war with Rymor. The Shadowlands are full of savages called the Jaru, they are normally not civilized, they rage, kill and destroy everything in their path. John Tanis has his own agenda and that it is to wipe the Jaru out and to stop Bill from causing war between Rymor and the Shadowlands.
There was a lot going on in this story. Many POV’s of main and side characters that gave us lots of information of what was going on in both worlds. The world building, plot and story draws you in and takes you on an epic fantasy adventure. This was the first book in this trilogy and I can’t wait for book two! It does end in a soft cliffhanger and one that gives us a little peak into where the next book will take us. Can’t wait!
I don't really know what I expected going into this, but I was still surprised, delighted and so excited! The worldbuilding and lore is SO intriguing, and the characters and their connections to each other had me thrilled. I'm really excited to continue this series right away because I can't wait to see what happens next!
Filled with action, mystery, politics, exploration, and the scorching hot scenes I've come to expect and love from LV Lane
4.75 stars - the only thing missing for me is more of Garren's amazing personality
Hannah is this sweet, super smart Omega that is in a boring relationship, only to move on to a melt your panties off relationship with Bill (barf). No sex is that amazing to put up with the deception and manipulation that this man does, Bill is an extra evil that has too much power. Then you have Tanis, an Alpha with a bit of Do-Gooder or is it Hero Complex? Any way I digress, he is a strong-willed man with a........ not pure heart but a good heart. These characters and those that surround them are fantastically written; you love, hate, cheer, and cringe with them. The loss and betrayal that is happening throughout this book has the reader jumping up and down and calling for heads to roll. I am so invested in the stories of these characters and can't wait for the next book in the series, there are a lot of storylines that I need know what happens next.
My biggest pet peeve with the book is that there are were many povs. I found it distracting and was unable to really get to know anyone - it’s all surface-level at the moment. I am enjoying the world-building and the plot; I just wish that it centered on a lot less people. It is definitely a slow burn, that’s for sure.
I literally have no idea how I'm meant to do a review that does this masterpiece any justice, but I'm going to try!
The world building and character development in this book is phenomenal!
We have multiple POVs including main and side characters, and I wasn't sure how to feel about that at first, but omg I loved it! It made me fall more in love with each and every character, and it was thrilling to be able to see into so many different minds 😍 each character has different traits and Liv wrote every single one to perfection 🖤
The main thing I loved about this book was the vibes it gave, it's dark and twisted with a dash of mystery and steam, and I have no idea what's going to happen along the way during this trilogy but I am so here for the ride!!
So don't even hesitate to pick up this book, dive into the pages, and disappear into this amazing world Liv has created 🖤
I loved this story and I just know that this is going to become one of my favorite series. One of my favorite things, when it comes to books, is complexity. The more complex the characters and the setting, the more I love it. It's usually only in epic fantasy that I find that complexity, but this one hit it. Part of that comes from all the different POVs that the story has, and part of it has to do with the complexity of the world the story is set in, but the characters are also complex in their own way. Needless to say, I savored this story in a way I haven't done with a romance novell in a very long time. It was still a one sitting read, and the story sucked me in so deeply that I forgot to watch the clock and was late picking my child up from work, but I still felt like I was savoring each word as it jumped off the page. It was brilliant!
This story is a unique blend of SciFi and omegaverse. It’s an exceptionally slow burn romance with dark elements.
Hannah is an omega, who catches the eye of a very powerful man. One who is more than meets the eye and surrounded by secrets.
This story focuses more on plot with very little romance, which I don’t usually enjoy. It’s action packed with multiple POVs, including those of some side characters. The characters introduced in this first book are intriguing and we don’t quite know who the villain is yet. Overall, The Girl with the Gray Eyes is a very interesting read.
If you love dark and twisted epic fantasies, then this book is for you.
Unlike Lane's previous work, this one is a bit of a slow burn as far as romance goes, but it makes up for it with an amazing story and wonderful world building.
⭐️ 4.5 Holy macaroni! The revelation at 69% had me shaken, absolutely shaken! And then again at 86%…there were many smaller ones, but these took the cake.
For the longest time I’ve wanted a reverse harem where the plot was the draw, and the harem was the side piece. I just got so sick of seeing the same kind of sex scenes between the same amount of people and then as soon as they’re together it’s apparent nothing else is holding the book up.
𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒃𝒐𝒐𝒌 𝒊𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒔.
For starters there is no one main character. We don’t focus on just her and how everyone is drawn to her. Ohh no no no. We focus equally on her and anyone else that is contributing to the plot significantly. It creates a very in-depth world with many layers. It shows us all the cogs that are leading to significant decisions. It makes me invested. This story takes it’s time, and I believe is all the more richer for it. It means it’s slow to get rolling, but once it does, there’s no stopping it.
Plots upon plots, I enjoyed holding the many threads shown me throughout the book, watching as it weaved a fascinating, complex story. The romance is secondary to anything happening here, and I am all in, for all of it.
The banter of the men near the end of the last fight had me in stitches.
If I could make one complaint it would be that I wish she wasn’t so ruled by her biology. She’s so quick to jump someone, there’s very little build up to it. In short, it is not a romance
This one was not my favorite read from this author. I like the premise of the book however I felt like it was bogged down a bit by some of the world building. I like books with many POVs but I think this one may have had one too many and too many changes. If found myself skimming through some of the world building and politics to get to the dialogue between characters.
I enjoyed the dialogue and the relationships between the characters as well as meeting new characters. However it just was not enough for me. I don't think I will be continuing this series, but will continue to read other books by this author
I purchased apll the books in this series off the bat of her other series. I cannot read this book. I've tried and tried but there are so many pov I lost track of who is who why and how. I gave it several goes and I couldn't. I'm not returning the unread books because I'm not like that. Next time I will be more careful.
This one took me a little longer to get into than most of LV's books. But I think because the world building in this one was so huge. Lots of characters and chapters from their POV's. By the end I was fully invested and really looking forward to book 2.
Wayyy to many pov , I'm was so confused the whole time. To many characters and I wish there were some sort of explanation, lika a map or something but nope just thrown in the deep.
This was one of the most horribly written books I’ve read. It felt like, for the majority of the book, the author didn’t even know where they were going with the story or the plot. To further support that theory, new characters started getting POV chapters, about nothing, just to drag the story on.
I picked up this book because I love alpha and omega stories, well some types of them. This one disappointed me so badly. Hannah, the main character and omega, is supposed to be a rare Omega born in a society that has no Alphas, only Betas. These Betas barely show aggression and pretty much cede all control over to the women in a relationship… or maybe that’s just with sex. I couldn’t tell as it’s poorly written. She refused an operation or something that would make her “normal” when she was younger. There seems to be barely information on Omegas in this society. The knowledge she has obtained came from some dark web like thing. Now, they are actually some living Alphas, but they live on the other side of a very tall wall built and long ago by people they call “The Ancients”. They are said to be savages, brutal and aggressive, almost unthinking cave man like beings.
But back to Hannah. Hannah starts off sounding like a female that has never been satisfied by a man due to her physiology and likely never will considering an omega typically needs an Alpha to sate them. So all of her complaints are valid and make sense. Then suddenly she meets someone that seems to hit all the right spots and that’s cool too. Unfortunately, she then seems to become a nympho vice an omega. There is no “heat” cycle. She just seems to constantly want and need sex. So much so that she over looks all the questionable crap this man does and becomes needy, almost dependent upon his ddkk! She then starts falling in love with him. She even disregards her only surviving family, her sister’s warnings and advice, someone who is so close to her and they had the tightest relationship. It was hard to read all of her ridiculous thoughts and denials. It contradicted the fact that she was supposed to be super smart in a way, but… that doesn’t necessarily mean common sense.
So that goes on the majority of the book. We find out that despite the author saying that Omegas are rare, we meet two more almost immediately. One is a coworker and mentor, the other is the mother of another main character. I was baffled to discover that despite Omegas being so rare, they didn’t seem to have a registry of them or even support groups since they would feel different than others. Hell, they didn’t even know of each other!
So Hannah continues being stupid until she is sent across the wall... by her boyfriend, where savage Alphas and even more savage indigenous people, called Jaru, reside and war with each other. There, where she’s around the kind that she should be around, it becomes clear she knows nothing about being an omega. She knew nothing about suppressants, only sterilization. She didn’t know about her pheromones permeating the air, setting off all the alphas. She did know that they had a knot though, courtesy of her dark web searches. Anyway, despite all the evidence point at her boyfriend for doing some savagery that could bring her mostly peaceful city to war with the inhabitants on this said of the wall, she still doubts he would do that. Even though she has witnessed several things contrary to what she was told, she still wants to believe her boyfriend, that sent her there to die, has a logical explanation for all that has transpired. In true Hannah fashion, she has already become the sex partner of one of the alphas in her traveling party, acting like a nympho and once again, falling in love. So her track record is if he has good sex, she must love him or she’ll die or some crap. The book ends with her seemingly wanted to also have sex with that guy’s brother, another main character.
Having said all that and being utterly disappointed, I will attempt to read the next book after I put some space in. It probably shouldn’t even be one. They entire thing could have been in this book if the extra POVs weren’t added for filler. Some are valid chapters though or rather, hearing from those people would have been valid but most are filled with fluff for word count.
Also, the color of her eyes had zero significance throughout this entire book, leaving the title making no sense in this one. Maybe it’s significant in a later book? Who knows.

Holy hell this book was freaking amazing! I took my time reading this book. I just soaked up all the world building that L.V. Lane put into this book. Sometimes when I was reading this book, it felt like I could just open my front door and walk out into this world. This was a world that I wouldn't mind spending a lot of time in. I was completely fascinated with it. Actually I want to move here! 😆😆😆
I absolutely loved that we had so many different POV's in this book. Usually you only get POV's from the main characters in a story. This story there are so many that you get. It makes the story better in my opinion that you get all of their thoughts on what is going on also. I hate to call them side characters. Because in my opinion they are not side characters. They are as important as Hannah, Tanis, and Bill. Those are, I believe the main characters. There might be a few more. But so far it has been hard to determine just which ones are indeed the main characters other then those three. Garren I think might end up being part of the main characters. But so far I love all of characters. They are all so diverse and intriguing in their own right. I have a few favorites so far. I am intrigued by Nate and Theo. I want to know more about those two in particular. Oh who am I kidding? I want to know more about all of them! I just love this story and need more of it now!
The only complaint I have with this story so far is some of the scenes with Bill and Hannah just kind of fade to black and I didn't particularly care for that. Specially not when Hannah would think about it later and question what really happened. We didn't get to "see" what happened. So for her to question herself about it, without really going into details about what exactly about it she was questioning... kind of left us hunting around in the dark for an answer that wasn't forthcoming. I didn't like that at all. I'm not sure if that was the authors intent. For it to be part of the suspense of this book and it will be revealed later.. or what. I can just say that for right now I wasn't happy with that part. But since it only happened a few times before things moved into an entirely intriguing way.. I got over it quickly with so many more questions turning up.
I am dying to know why does everybody hate Bill? I agree he is a complete ahole! He couldn't tell the truth about anything to save his life. Bill is completely up to no good. I know all this. What I want and need to know is why do they all hate him? It is kind of hinted at, and we get Bill's version of what happened. But we all already know that it is far from the truth. I need to know! I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out!
2.5 neutral stars rounded up to 3 (for the series)
Well…that was a story.
I can’t decide whether or not I liked the tone the story was told in. It felt somewhat detached or emotionally muffled, like listening to a conversation from underwater. While this tonal style can add to a story, I can’t say that it added value here, overall.
I applaud the author for creating a rich and innovative world setting. I appreciated that there was a reason for the existence of the different peoples, including alphas, but wish there had been more explanation for the existence of omegas. They’re not a natural counterbalance to alphas in how alphas and omegas are written in this story, so the existence of omegas, and Hannah’s experience in owning her omega status as a result, read rather gratuitous. I also found the unquestioned colonizer mindset to be, at best, a missed opportunity for thoughtful exploration.
We are introduced to a cast of characters who, as the author warns, range from the morally grey to pitch black. Unfortunately, we never get to satisfactorily explore and challenge the range of morals and ethics we are given, which is something I would have hoped to be the case with such a morally and ethically diverse group of characters. While I enjoyed the multiperspectivity as a whole, some POVs were unnecessary, and there were certainly some chapters told from secondary characters’ POVs that felt like they served no purpose beyond reminding readers that those characters still existed. Moreover, there is absolutely no character development from anyone, and after three books, I don’t feel emotionally invested in any character. The romantic relationships go from 0 to 100, with time skips for readers to assume some amount of natural progression existed off-page. And I can’t say that they felt particularly healthy, so I couldn’t ship any of them.
As a minor gripe, could we please stop the « unnecessarily picking up children just to assume others will care for them » trope? Instead of making readers think the character is caring and nurturing, it makes them seem rash, irresponsible, and neglectful.
In the end, we are left with a whole lot of unanswered questions and loose ends.
Miss Lane starts her new trilogy off with a bang. With the story of Hannah, the ancient technology specialist and her fantasies of the Shadowlands It all starts with the relationship between Hannah and the Chancellor William Bremmer. Hannah wins the Lovert Award on behalf of a society, where she meets the Chancellor. There she meets Bremmer, and falls in lust with him. All due to her Omega hormones reacting to his masterly air. Bremmer has a Dominant attitude about him that makes her slick come out, making their interaction even more addictive to her. Something Hannah needs in her somewhat stale life. A station failing across the border in the Shadowlands throws a cog into the plans of Bremmer. He has to send two ancient technology specialists out to fix it. But they do not get there. Bremmer suspects his long time enemy, John Tanis. Exiled from Rymor for terrorist actions, or from trying to kill him ten years past.. Little does Bremmer know that Tanis trying to help by keeping the Juru away from the downed transport he sent. Hannah gets her dream. She is sent into the Shadowlands to fix the station, but by horseback. A Juru attack brings her to the attention of John Tanis and his band of Alphas. Something that sets off her Omega scent. Driving Garren, one of Tanis’ men, wild. Soon they are paired up, and the inevitable happens. . A mutual attraction is acted upon. The band gets to the station, amid warring with the Juru, Hannah gets in to fix it. Bremmer has his own secrets back in Rymor pending. Mainly trying to start a war with the Shadowlands all because of a vendetta with Tanis. The character driven plot thickens even more from there. Readers of Renee Rose will like this trilogy.
This was definitely a unique and very creative omegaverse story that had me utterly captivated. It took a bit to get fully immersed into the story as the start was all about laying the foundation of all the individual characters and their backstories and all of the political intrigue and corruption going on. After about 30% of the book, the storyline starts to take some very interesting turns. It is a complex story with multilayers of puzzling intrigue and sub-plots. The story unfolds slowly but it kept me fully engaged and wanting to know what was going to happen next. The imagery and world building is outstanding and it brought this unique world to life on the pages.
The characters are complex but well fleshed out. Each one is unique with their own hidden agendas. You definitely start to hate some right away, and others will have you instantly hooked on them and wanting to know more about them. I am intrigued by it all.
Once I started reading, I couldn’t stop. I needed to know what would happen and peel back some of the layers of this story. Filled with suspense, action, drama, violence (gore), corruption and some very steamy and titillating moments, this story will keep you turning the pages quickly to see how it will all play out in the end.
I can’t wait for the next book after that ending!!
I originally started this book when it first came out a few years back. I stopped reading at around 30% as I just couldn’t get into the story.
Fast forward to July 2024 and I pick it up again as I love this authors writing style. I’m so glad I did because WOW this book was absolutely amazing 🖤 after getting to around 45% I couldn’t put the book down, I was invested and needed to see what was going to happen next.
This is a slow burn RH omegaverse in a dystopian type setting with a bit of scifi elements thrown in. This is a large multi pov book but once you figure out your characters your good to go 😍 the world building is incredible, especially with all the different factors going into the story: I understand lots of POV might throw you off a story but with this story it’s definitely needed as there is so much happening you need to understand all the parts that come to play in making this book the story that it is 🖤
With this being a slow burn there is some spice but that is not the focus of the story. Everything is described perfectly so you as the reader feel as though you are part of the story and understand everything going on around you. This is a dark story with a lot of violent themes 🖤
I honestly can’t wait to see where this story goes next. I’m so glad I now started reading when all the series was out so I don’t have to wait to read the next bit 😜
Loved this so much! Such a fantastically crafted world and barely a hint of romance. Excited for how this slow burn will play out.
This is nothing like the other books I've read by her, and was significantly lengthier. She's always been fantastic at crafting worlds, but given the shorter length of her previous works, the romance/lust have often been quite immediate.
I think one of the reasons I loved this so much was because I wasn't really sure who the love interest was (presuming this was a reverse harem romance) - until about 80% I wasn't sure if Bill was a love interest or not (and I really didn't want him to be, because that kind of sociopath can't be redeemed imo).
Though I was sad for the events that transpired re Ella, it did cement that it just wouldn't be possible for him to be a love interest.
I also loved that contrary to the trigger warnings at the beginning of the book, it wasn't as dark and difficult to read as I assumed. Well, it was, but for different reasons: it was difficult to read when she doesn't realise she's being manipulated and gaslit by bill. But especially at the beginning of the book, as a reader who has consumed so many books where the bills of the world are redeemed, I was unsure how it would be played out.

L.V Lane is an automatic read for me. This book wasn't really a romance but I have a feeling it will lead to one down the line. This book isn't without L.V's spice though, so don't worry about that.
The world in this book, everything is automated-- if a machine breaks down, another machine repairs it. Hannah, is one of four people in the world that knows how to manually work this technology and when a station goes out on the power grid she is sent out to the war torn Shadowlands to repair it. This mission is part of a larger conspiracy by a psychopathic politician named Bill. Bill is smitten with Hannah for a few weeks, but then decides she would make a good scapegoat. Not the first time he's done it either, and won't be the last. Luckily, Tanis and his crew are there to rescue her and her team from the savage Jaru when Hannah's craft leaves them stranded in the middle of the Shadowlands.
The only real complaint I have about this book is that the first 20% or so,the multiple points of view were a bit confusing but the characters were so vivid and interesting. I can't wait to read the other books to find out what happens!
The book really is a page turner. I love when I find one of those.
