Life is so unfair.

The first time Poppy transitions, she finds out her mate is none other than Klaus freaking Demon, the alpha’s son. The guy who’s been secretly bullying her for years. If he thinks she’s going to fall for him, he’s wrong.

Klaus apologizes, so what more does she want? They’re mates, and there’s no way she can deny this connection. She wants nothing to do with him, but she belongs to him, and he can’t allow her to leave. When a visiting pack full of unmated males comes to town, Klaus knows he’s screwed. While he still tries to make Poppy see sense, the visiting alpha’s son takes a shine to her. Klaus can’t stand to see Poppy with another, and it’s time he steps up—even if his dad will find out about the bullying.

Will Poppy give him a chance or push him away? Klaus isn’t sure how he could handle the rejection. Can he allow her to be happy with another, or will he admit to what he’s done and stake his claim on his mate?

Sam Crescent is passionate about fiction. She loves a good erotic romance and so it only made sense for her to spread her wings and start writing. She began writing in 2009 and finally got that first acceptance in 2011 by Total-E-Bound.
She loved creating new characters and delving into the worlds that she creates. When she’s not panicking about a story or arguing with a character, she can be found in her kitchen creating all kinds of havoc. Like her stories the creations in the kitchen can be just as dubious but sometimes things turn out great.

I won't spend much time for this review, basically a teenager who for no reason bullied a girl finds out she's his fated mate and because of this, he tries to make it up to her.
The heroine won't have it in the beginning but there's nothing interesting in this.
The hero has been cruel to her for years, why? He was the alpha's son and it seems to me he was a mean boy, a coward, no hero material and no alpha for sure.
Just because he felt the bond he changed his mind about her and regretted his behavior.
I wonder if he had regretted it if the heroine hadn't been his mate.
And the book was anyway not interesting and boring, even if it was short.

I'm a huge fan of Sam Crescent, this was another hit! It's about a pair of shifters, Klaus and Poppy. Klaus bullied Poppy pretty much all of their lives. When Poppy finally transitions, they find out they are fated mates. But... they hate each other. How can they move past that?

I thought this was a super cute romance. I adore the fated mate trope- this one was no exception. I would have liked a little more spice but that's just me.

bully romances are my guilty pleasure 🫣 tbh there was not much bullying here, but mmc bullied fmc when they were in school so def still counts

safety:
- dual V
- no cheating/sharing/OW
- small OM (the guy from another pack is interested in her, hoping they will be together, however she is not interest in him at all, I enjoyed it because mmc deserved some jealousy 🤭)

DNF:

I just couldn’t do it anymore. I liked the name poppy I don’t see that much in books. However this book there was something so off with it. The cover… the guy does NOT look like he’s 18 try more like his 30s. Second geez I get it, he was a bully. Okay great. It was almost insufferable to get through. I’m used to Sam’s writing being different but this was like a poorly writing FanFiction. And then throw in ohhh he’s a virgin which contradicts what he’d said in the beginning. And why does her characters never have a backbone? I usually really enjoy the shifter series but lately it’s the same book over and over again. We get it. They turned, found out their bully is the mate and they don’t even grovel but she accepts them.

Reap what you sow

Best to be prepared for an all night read fest when you pick up this book! The characters were phenomenal! I love how Klaus took ownership of his previous actions and was willing to wait for Poppy to come to terms with their new reality, and Poppy showed her resilience and kind nature when she went along for the ride. Watching their love grow was a heartwarming experience and I can’t wait to see who finds their mate next. I kind of hope it’s Greg, I was truly touched by his pain.

A bully finds that the girl he bullied is his mate. Lovely story, great characters with just enough competition to add some depth to the story.

Nothing like bullying a girl throughout high school and then finding out she is your mate. Poppy isn't inclined to be too forgiving and wants to deny that Klaus is her mate. it is tough for them to ignore their mating instinct and keep the truth from their pack. Everything comes out when an alpha from another pack wants Poppy as a mate.

Most of the book is Klaus trying to atone for his behavior toward Poppy and the things he said about her mom. He realizes that he loves her and always did.

Some of the horrible shit I said to her, I hate myself for it.
I’m a fucking prick, and I … hate myself because of it.

I haven’t finished yet but so far this story is not only poorly written but it’s plot line is childish. I’m about 75% through it and I don’t see it getting any better at this point. I honestly wished I hadn’t wasted my money.

Bullies…Klaus Demon was a piece of work, and Poppy … detested him. He was cruel and manipulative. The one who made her life misery at school, throughout the pack, and just any opportunity he got, was her mate.

She hadn’t confided in her mother as the alpha (Kraus’s father) was known for his traditions, and he believed that mates should be together. The alpha always asked his people to give their mating a chance and if he knew, there would be a ceremony, and she’d be with Klaus. The fact that on her first transition, a grand whole eight months after his, he discovered that she was his mate, this had been three days ago. In the past three days, she’d seen more of Klaus than she ever cared to.

“You know what I want from you, Poppy. Stop being a fxxxing jerk already.”
“I’m being the jerk? How do you figure that out?”
“Why haven’t you told anyone?”
“Why would I tell anyone?”
“Why not tell anyone? Come on, this is a big fxxxing deal.”
He thought because they were mates, she’d be pleased.
“How is this a big fxxxing deal to you, Klaus?”
“You’re my mate. After all this time, we’re in the same pack. There’s nothing dividing us. We have found one another, and we both know that shit is rare.”
He looked so excited.

The truth was, she was utterly disappointed.
“Poppy, the whore’s daughter. Fat Poppy. Fat Poopy. Look everyone, duck and cover, Fatty’s in the room. Whore. Slut. B*tch. Ugly cow. Do you need me to go on?” Poppy asked. The name-calling had started when she was young. Mainly because of her mother, who wasn’t a bad person. Her only mate died many years ago, when Poppy was a young girl, he sacrificed his life for his alpha.

“You want me to tell you why I never said a word? My dad died, Klaus. My mother’s soul mate died protecting your dad. That’s right, in case you forgot, your father was being hunted, and my father put his a*s on the line. He got hunted and torn apart. My mother lost her soul mate and I lost my dad. I had to listen to her pain for months and years. She never got over that. By some miracle, she was able to find some kind of peace with random pack men. They were never mated. Never married to anyone else, but she found a small slither of peace, enough to help with the pain. Why the hell would I tell my mother that I was getting bullied by the son of the very man who was there when she lost her mate? How do I tell her that I’m being called fat, ugly, and the daughter of the whore? Being shoved. Hair pulled. Huh? How do I do that?”
“And I wasn’t an idiot, Klaus. I know you did all of that with no witnesses. So don’t you dare come at me with any accusations.”

“Do you think I don’t regret what I did? That I’m not paying that price?”
“I don’t believe a word you say and I never will. I won’t say anything, and if you don’t want to end up with a mate who hates you, I suggest you keep it to yourself as well.” Poppy might turn. He’d seen it, and he didn’t want her to do anything to herself that she might regret.
He didn’t even know why he said the things that he did or shoved her. At least he knew why he’d pulled her hair. He loved her blonde locks. She had them pulled back.

“Yes, I do have a mate. The alpha’s son, who spent a great deal of our high school days hurting me.”
“I didn’t spend a lot of time … bullying you. It was just a little bit.” Not that this helped at all. He had to learn to shut up.
“Fine. When no one could see you, hear you, or even report you to your own father. Every single chance we were alone, you were mean and hurtful. You pulled my freaking hair, Klaus.”
“Because you always wear your hair up. That can’t be comfortable. You have … pretty hair. I wasn’t actually trying to pull your hair that day. I was attempting to … pull the thing that kept it up.” He shrugged.
“You like my hair?”
“Yes.”
“Oh.”
“I like a whole lot of other things about you as well.”

“I don’t believe that.”
“I like your smile, it makes your eyes sparkle. I also happen to love that shade of green in your eyes.”
“This is the wolf talking.”
“I don’t care what is talking or not. This is how I feel. I also happen to love your a*s.”
“My a*s?”
“Yes.”
“My fat a*s?”
“Can we just agree that I am the biggest a-hole in the world? I said a lot of things that were stupid, and I regret it so damn much.”
She shrugged. “We can.”
Her hand rested on her knee. Throwing caution to the wind with the risk of rejection, he grabbed her hand, locking their fingers together.”

I’m not making excuses for his behaviour which was traumatising to a young Poppy, leaving her with a lasting impression of his actions. I’m trying to view him subjectively, as a new shifter, blinded by his hormones blurring his feelings. He redeems himself and sacrifices his needs for Poppy’s.

Five years into the future they’re parents to twins, with another twin set on the way.

Thoroughly enjoyed this read.
Poppy couldn’t believe that her fated mate was her school bully. Klaus had been her worst nightmare through school saying horrible comments about her weight, her looks and about her mum. They had lost Poppy‘s dad when he was defending the Alpha of the pack and her mum couldn’t cope with losing him. they were so happy. So after years of mourning she then started taking up with the single male pack members just for comfort and she got a name for a self. And Klaus decided to make her life hell for that. So now she struggled with the decision of could they be mates.

Klaus was devastated at what he had put her through when she was younger. He could look back now and know he done wrong. why did he have to say those things. So now he had to do everything in his power to get his fated mate to forgive him not to forget he would never be able to forget what he did but if she could forgive him then maybe they had a chance.
There wolfs knew that they were fated mates and they were making it more and more difficult to not be around each other. And now they have another pack coming to visit with many single wolf shifters how would Klaus react to men around Poppy??
Wow there is just so much heartbreak in this book my heart really went out to Poppy. It was like she was reliving every word. I don’t think Klaus had for one minute thought his words would hurt her so much. But what I did like was this attraction this electric feeling they had when they were together. And it was getting more more difficult to be in the same space without touching one another these two really had something worth fighting for. I honestly couldn’t put this book down really enjoyed it.

This wasn’t a bad book at all, but I gotta say I was a bit bored by the end. From the beginning, it all felt too predictable. I knew Poppy and Klaus were definitely gonna end up together, so I guess I wasn’t too thrilled about their relationship. Yes, he bullied her, but apart from calling her a few names, and pulling her hair, it wasn’t anything too unforgivable, really. There wasn’t a backstory on the bullying either, we just learn from the first pages that he was mean to her at school, boo-hoo. Not angsty at all. Hence, not an exciting grovel.

Nothing about this book was too exciting. The plot, the characters, the grovel, the spicy scenes (that lacked quite a bit of space for my taste). It was all too plain. The author tried to create some kind of drama by introducing an unmated guy into the story, but it never threatened the character’s relationship anyway so that also fell flat by the end (he just ends up getting ignored, not even the author seemed to care too much about him as he just blends into the background and disappears the moment the couple finally gets together).

All in all, it was just ‘meh’ for me. Didn’t connect with any of it. I probably would’ve liked it a bit more if there was a bit more chemistry between the characters. If the story was gonna be that predictable, at least throw me some sizzling scenes, no? It didn’t have that. Just sappy dialogues by the end and the epilogue where (of course) they have 2.5 kids and a white picket fence. I guess I wasn’t in the mood for that kind of thing…

What I liked: I liked Klaus(H). He knew he was a prick to Poppy(h)and I liked how at the end he told the whole pack what he did and how sorry he was. I really hope his sister gets a book because I really liked her character.

What I didn’t like: This book had a lot of repeating and because of that it got annoying. Also, I felt the author forgot what she wrote in the previous chapter because they would act like they never discussed it but they did (for an example they said I love you in a previous chapter but at the end they both acted like they never said it before).

***Major Spoilers/ Details/Triggers: the h had her first transition and realizes that she is mated to the H who bullied her in school. H is the alpha’s son and knows how much he messed up. h doesn’t want to be his mate and tells him so. H keeps coming around apologizing and doing all he can to get her to give him a chance. They decide to keep their bond a secret so they can work things out. Another pack is visiting to see if they can find their mate and their alpha’s son is staying with the h and her mom. This makes the H jealous and he asked the h to stay away from the om. The h agrees to not be alone with the om and to give her and the H’s relationship a try. They finally can’t fight it anymore and have sex. His dad finds out and is upset that he kept it from them but tells him to claim her quickly. Since h’s mom doesn’t know decides to have h go with om. Obviously the H and h can’t have that so they announce they are mates. HEA

Descriptive Sex: Yes

Final thoughts: This was just barely ok. I will read the sister’s book but I think I need to take a break from Sam Crescent books.

This book was so cute and really enjoyable to read. It tells the story of two shifter mates who never thought they’d turn out to be mates. Klaus, the MMC bullied Poppy all through childhood, and she’d hated him for it. When they turned out to be true mates after her first shift, she despised the mating bond between them and tried to ignore it at every moment. They didn’t tell anyone they were mates, and Klaus spent all the time he could, trying to prove to her how sorry he was. Things get a little complicated when a neighboring pack comes for a visit and the Alpha’s son wants to mate with Poppy and make her his wife, even without the true mate bond. Poppy and Klaus will have to decide if they really want one another and if they’re ready to be honest with the pack, the Alpha, and Poppy’s mom about why they hid their bond for so long. I love enemies to loves style romances, and this one was no different. Absolutely adorable and it made my heart smile. I definitely want to read more books like this in the future.

- dual virgins
- shifter mates
- spice 2.5/5
- enemies to lovers (kind of)

Bullied Mate

I just love this trope and think this story was done well. Poppy is transitioning for the first time and she's about to discover her mate. The one shifter that is meant for her and her for him. Unfortunately, her mate is none other than Klaus Demon, the Alpha's son and her bully.

Klaus has bullied Poppy in secret. No one knows how he treated her and she never told anyone. Deciding that she needs time to figure out how she feels about all this, Poppy and Klaus decide not to tell anyone they're mates. They need to decide for themselves if this can work and if Poppy can forgive and trust Klaus after everything he put her through growing up.

This creates some conflict when a neighboring pack comes to visit and some unmated wolves put the moves on Poppy. After all, no one knows she has a mate so she is considered fair game. This creates some issues of jealousy and actually helps these two discover their true feelings towards each other.

This read was enjoyable and entertaining. I felt that there was an appropriate amount of groveling from Klaus and he was sincere in his regret. Overall, well done and highly recommended.

Poppy Davenport experienced her first transition as a wolf and recognized the alpha’s son as her one true mate. Instead of a special and joyous occasion, she is mortified that her high school bully is the one fate chose for her. How could she possibly bond with someone that made her life absolutely miserable? Klaus Demon spent years singling Poppy out and calling her terrible names. He was unnecessarily cruel and now he must face the consequences.

Poppy is a strong and independent heroine. She is likable and relatable. I loved that she wasn’t a doormat and fought her wolf’s desire to mate with Klaus. She refused his charming advances at every turn (which was very refreshing!) and he had to really work hard to convince Poppy to give him a chance. He knew his past actions were wrong and took steps to make it right. No one could fix this disaster except him. I giggled every single time the alpha’s son of a fellow pack showed attention to Poppy in front of Klaus. He absolutely deserved it!

This was another great installment in this series and I devoured it in one sitting!

Tropes: Paranormal romance, enemies-to-lovers, BBW, bully romance, fated mates, shifters, virgin heroine, virgin hero

I do enjoy me some Sam Crescent bully shifter books and Bullied Mate did not disappoint. This is part of the Aloha Shifter Collection and can absolutely be read as a stand alone.

The story starts after high school, after the bullying, with Poppy and Klaus realizing their new reality as fated mates. Klaus is dealing with the realization of what he did all those years and Poppy coming to grips with this person in her life. He’s her mate. Him. Klaus, the alpha’s horrid son. Can she forgive him for all those hateful hurtful things he’s said? Does she want to?

But the more time they secretly spend together, the more complicated things seem to become. And why does it feel like she doesn’t hate him as much as she used to?

And then, just when it seemed like they were working things through, another pack comes to visit. With their unmated males. With their mating so fragile, and Poppy drawing the attention of Greg the son of the alpha of the visiting pack, things come to a head real quick.

Great, quick and easy read. A perfect way to spend an afternoon, evening, or even a plane ride (😆). I received a copy of this book and I’m voluntarily leaving a review.

This was the first book that I have read by Sam Cresent and all I have to say is I am obsessed. What a fun read and loved it from beginning to end. The characters were complex and well written. The world that was created for them had great secondary characters. So much so that I want more of their stories. I loved the spice and angst both the main characters brought to each other. This is one of my favorite tropes to read and this hit all my likes: a second chance, nice grovel, and a strong female. The male of course was TD&H and loved his determination.

Poppy was strong, stubborn, and kind. I really liked how she was determined to avoid the subject that her fate was insistent that they take care of. I am not giving any part of the story away it was just too good to give the plot away. Just know that you will read this book have that HEA and then need more. The road that these two characters traveled to get where they needed to be was a roller-coaster of what is coming next.

I will be going and reading the previous book and other books by this author.

I've many of the Alpha Shifter Collection books, especially all the ones that have a bully theme to it.
Out of all of them, this one is not my favorite at all. If I'm being completely honest, I felt this dang book dragged slowly...but that could've just been me and my reading speed because I couldn't stay interested in the book long enough just read through it.
The relationship with Poppy and Klaus was so annoying and Poppy constantly whinnying about the bullying just aggrevated me so much. I didn't believe the connection and relationship between them and I can't understand why either one would really want the other.
With many of the other bullying books this author writes, there's always a reason why the bullying happened with the most common one being peer pressure or trying to fit in. But with this one, there is really no clear reason as to why Klaus bullied Poppy. Nobody else messed with her, if anything everyone left her alone.

Klaus has been bulling Poppy since high school. The night of the transformation things all changed. Poppy was Klaus’ true mate. He has to make it up to her and show her that he truly didn’t mean any of what he did. He was a fool. But Poppy wants nothing to do with him. So, their wolves know they are mates. That doesn’t mean they have to be together. When a new pack comes by, Klaus has to show Poppy he is serious. Why do the alpha son’s always have to be stupid. Did they not learn anything from the Alpha. Never bully. The one you do could be your mate. But nope, never listen. Klaus has to work really hard to show Poppy he truly does care for her. He never wanted to hurt her. He was just being a jerk. You have to love Poppy. She is strong and pushes back against Klaus. Sure, she feels the pull but she wants to know he is telling the truth. Love is right there, they just had to admit to it.

This was my first story by this author and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I ended up ended up liking it. I’m not really big on bully romance but with the shifter element as well as fated mates, I decided to give it a chance. It was entertaining and enjoyable. The characters were interesting and likable. Klaus was Poppy’s mate. Unfortunately Klaus was also the person that had bullied Poppy for years. Poppy didn’t want to be mated to Klaus. Klaus was excited to find his fated mate. He had a lot of work ahead of him to try to win Poppy’s heart but he was willing to do whatever it took. When another pack came to visit, there was some drama and angst. I felt bad for Greg. He was really nice and didn’t want to be lonely anymore. He was a good friend to Klaus and Poppy. I loved their happily ever after. I recommend reading this book.

This is a short story shifter bully romance, that Follows the perspective of the two love interests. I love shifter romances; they are one of my favorite sub genres, so I was super excited to pick this one up. However, because it has a bully trope, I am very particular about how it's done and the reason behind it. The explanation used for it in this story was really lacking and I don’t really like the type of message it sends. Because this story was so short and there was not a lot of time for the development of an actual relationship, so it just felt like she just forgave him because of true mate bond, and it all felt unsatisfactory. The writing was ok, but I found the spicy a bit awkward. I don’t think that this short story is for me, while I like shifter romance, but there were just several elements that did not work.

Maybe 2.5 Stars?
The premise of this book really grabbed me. As do most books by this author. Sadly, they almost never live up to what I need them to be. There is something about the writing that is unrefined. Sentences and ideas repeat too frequently, and there are usually a good number of errors, and Bulled Mate was no exception. Yet I keep coming back because the plot idea calls to me every time.

Poppy and Klaus are your typical HS bully couple (this takes place after graduation, but has mention of the HS interactions) but with the added complication of them being mates. I was excited to see that it's Poppy this time who basically does the rejecting, rather than the guy. But it's a very light rejection, and she gives in fairly easily. I also enjoyed the epilogue, but found it to be sterotypical.

Hot, young, puppy love!

Klaus and Poppy grew up together, so them being mates should be a lucky break… if Klaus wouldn’t have bullied her through high school.

I love that Poppy doesn’t let him gloss over the past like he so desperately wants to; being soulmates didn’t change the fact that he was a total jerk to her, so she refuses to give him the time of day.

Of course, Klaus starts to understand just how bad it was and starts trying to earn her forgiveness while they keep their mate good a secret from their parents and pack.

This book is part of a huge series of standalone shifter romances that put a twist on regular ole fated mate tales. I highly recommend the whole series! Of course, HEA guaranteed!

I don’t know why I always fall for these books. I know what to expect but I do it anyway. I think, maybe, it’s because some of Sam Crescent’s older books were higher quality.

No bullying on page. Book starts a few days after H/h realize they are mates. He bullied her *secretly* for years. This apparently consisted of name calling and possibly one hair pulling). The secret bullying is downplayed more and more as the book progresses.

No amends are ever made. H just keeps apologizing and telling H, he’s a “dick” and he knows he messed up. He never actually does anything else.

Slow burn, both H/h are virgins, OM drama, no cheating, no scenes with others, no cliffhanger. HEA.

This is safe. OM is interested and nice but h doesn’t reciprocate.

I’m not sure how to rate this book. I was really loving the beginning. But about half way through I started to get annoyed and near the end I got really irritated.

Sometimes I think this author writes a book and then doesn’t go back and edit or read it again before she publishes it. There are always sentences that don’t make sense, and in this book there were scenes and conversations that were basically had twice but the characters reacted like it was the first time. For example, the MC’s saying they loved each other. At the end they reacted like they couldn’t believe what they were hearing, they couldn’t believe their mate just said they loved them… but they literally said it to each other the night before. 🙄

I'm a girl that love plot, i want to felt all of the pain. this book doesnt have it.
I didnt feel the pain, so i kinda cant feel the grovelling and things.
I wish the storyline can be slower, so we can feel more the characters feelings.

Its started straight after he found out shes his mate, so i dont have the idea of how she got bullied, her feelings at that moment and how she wanna ruined herself.. that kind of pain you know?
thats is my expectation from rejected mates or angst kind of tropes.

its an easy read for sure, the seggs scene is.. okay? i didnt felt anything and its kinda cringe haha.
as i said.. i'm a plot girl. i want some story!

Klaus has messed up big time and he knows it. Being a bully to Poppy and then to find out she's his mate has him running scared. This was such a good story. Right from the start I was pulled in as Klaus tries to do damage control with Poppy without his father finding out what a jerk he'd been. Being the Alpha's son and a future Alpha himself, has put this mating in danger if anyone finds out. When another pack shows up and that Alpha's son takes a liking to Poppy, Klaus realizes he has to tell the truth. Poppy fought the mating for awhile but she finally gives in only to find someone else wants her. Can these two be truly mated? Will Poppy ever forgive Klaus for being a bully to her?
