Marwayne: Volume 1 The Migration

Rate this book
This is a history of the migration of the Marfleet family from England to Canada early in the last century. Original members of the contingent of Barr colonists, they settled homesteads in a north western part of the country before it subsequently became Alberta and Saskatchewan. The story, told through the eyes of Sarah and Fred, is frequently poignant, sometimes tragic, but more often humorous. It describes their separate journeys, one from England the other from Ireland to meet, fall in love, marry, and raise five boys on a farm in a rural community where electricity, plumbing, roads, telephone and railway were all new technological advances to the infrastructure of the time. The tale of the ordeal suffered by the Barr colonists, the largest mass migration in the history of Canada, has been chronicled from the point of view of historians. This is a history written by some of the people who lived through it.
