1859. Junie Benson has the mind of a genius and the ears of an angel — how else can he hear the voice of God? But then again, why would God be speaking to a twelve-year-old slave? These are questions Junie’s father can’t answer, and his enviably beautiful sister would rather not ask. But when God tells the Bensons to run, they run.
2023. Lt. Colonel Zachary Trumble can’t shake the feeling he’s compromising his life away. Haunted by dreams of a green-eyed beauty, he leaves the military to appease his wife and soothe his unhappy marriage. But as the new head of security at Burstein Labs, Zachary finds himself unsettled by their top-secret experiments.
A mad scientist, a family of captives about to be propelled into a new century, and a love that transcends generations all conspire to push Zachary to the limits of duty — until he’s caught between what has always been done and what is right.
Later is the first book that I have read penned by the author Colette R Harrell.
This story is set in the past and the present. The story features a twelve-year-old boy Junie and his twenty-year-old sister Sari. Junie, Sari and their father John have never been whipped. As a slave to the Benson Plantation, Junie has attended the public whippings. John and Junie want Sari to be free.
Pick a copy of this book and get to know about ex-Special forces Lt Colonel Zachary who fell in love with a green eyed Goddess. Who is this beauty?
This book is about God's timing. It tells the readers that delay doesn't mean you've been denied. This book gives hope and faith. It's a well written book. The cover of the book is eye-catching. I enjoyed every bit of this story. The pace of the story is perfect and I wasn't bored anytime while reading it. This story will stay in my mind for a long time.
The book opens up in 1859, and the readers are introduced to the Benson family, who are making plans to escape slavery. On their quest to freedom, John along with his son, Junie and daughter, Sari are being led by "the voice". When they reach Colorado, which is their final destination, they are met with an avalanche, which transports them into modern day.
Ironically, they wake up and find themselves a part of a social experiment.
My introduction to @coletterharrell's catalog completely blew me away! Reminiscent of Kindred by Octavia Butler, it starts out as historical fiction and suddenly changed to science fiction…thru time traveling. The icing on the cake, is the way the author connected the two time periods.
If you're willing to step outside the box, pick up this book!
Later is a story told in the past and the present. Later is one of those stories that will stick with you long after you have read the last page. Later is a very intriguing and spellbinding read that will keep you up late into the night as you race to the end to find out how the past and the present come together.
Later is a story about a boy and his sister in 1859. A family who wants nothing more than to be free. The road to freedom is a long and hard one for twelve-year-old Junie Benson and his older sister, Sari. When Sari is set to be sold Junie and his father set out to save Sari by taking her away to freedom.
Later is also a story about a man, ex-Special Forces Lt. Colonel Zachary who lives in the present 2022 with a green-eyed beauty whom he fell in love with from the moment he met her but after the marriage, everything started to go downhill. His green-eyed beauty changed right before his eyes never to be the same again.
Later kept me on the edge of my seat wanting and waiting to see how the past and the present were going to intertwine. From the moment I picked up Later I was anxious to see how the past and the present came together.
Later kept me in suspense from the beginning trying to figure out how it was all going to come together in the end. The twists kept the pages rolling chapter after chapter. I can’t wait to read more by this author, Colette R. Harrell.
I would recommend Later to anyone who loves a good love story. Grab your copy of Later today!
I normally don't like a lot of sci fi reads. When the author asked me if I would read and review it, I agreed, since I've read her work before. When I saw the cover, I wondered what I had gotten myself into. As I started reading, I was surprised that I was enjoying the story so much. The story kept me engaged right from the start, and I could not stop until I was finished with the story. And the switch between the two time periods was done so well. The author did such a great job with this story. Although I read it a bit ago, the characters have stayed with me even until today.
I received a copy of the book via the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review of my own thoughts and opinions.
This book was so fun to read!!! I really enjoyed the historical bits and the spiritual/science fiction undertone. I’m also a sucker for love and the beauty of the love story here is enthralling and transcends race and even time! The author is very descriptive and left me laughing with these unforgettable characters ( Junie’s my favorite) and curious to see what this book would look like adapted into film or television BRAVO Colette R. Harrell job well done.
Well written with engaging and a bit troublesome characters. The plot is interesting, compelling. A bit unpredictable, and very enjoyable. A story of love, redemption, and finding a HEA. I was hooked from the beginning.

Such a good read. I see this book as a movie as I was captivated by the story between being taken back to the 1800s to the current times. I felt pain when reading about the Bennett family going through past and modern slavery. This is her best book yet. I can’t wait for her next book.
