This is book three of the Palmchat Islands Mystery series and follows a couple, Vivian and Leo. They are both journalists and Leo has had to return to run his father’s newspaper empire in the islands, after his father had what is supposed to have been a severe heart attack, which he is recovering badly from. So, Leo is stuck running a newspaper instead of being off in some danger zone reporting on wars, etc. Vivian is holding onto a secret and is glad that Leo is working beside her and safe.

This story follows the case of a rampant womaniser, who it is found out is also a whistle-blower, ends up dead at the house of his latest fling, in a very brutal manner with his head almost taken off in the attack. Viv sets up one of her junior reporters, Beanie, on the case, under her careful watch. Leo gets even more frustrated with the aspects of managing the papers and pokes his hand in where it isn’t welcome, causing problems between him and Viv.

He spends a lot of this book whining about being forced into taking over and managing his dad’s role, which makes him quite unpleasant as a character in this book. Viv spends a lot of her time building up her junior reporters, but also keeping a secret she wished she didn’t have to.

The murder case gets more involved, with them looking into links with the murder victim’s unhappy previous partners but also the secrets of his company which he was willing to divulge to others. Which caused his death is left to nearer the end of the book for you to discover, as the story takes you off on different tangents and into some dangerous places for the reporting duo.

These are easy read mysteries with nothing too complex to the read. Lots of misleading plots and twists to go along with, but a lovely island location and the laid back lifestyle. The small group of regular characters from the newspaper, lets you get to know them as you read through the series. A good look into investigative reporting and what this entails, mixed in with a mystery to be solved. A little let down with Leo’s character mood in this one, but will wait and see what the next one brings.

A night of passion. A gruesome murder. And the question remains: who could’ve wanted Harold Otty dead?

Leo and Vivian, a team of journalists, certainly questioned the mysterious tipster. If he wasn’t Harold Otty, then who was he? And what did it have to do with a money-laundering scheme?

The duo dives into the cold-blooded case, asking intelligent questions and digging deep into the inconsistencies. Was the murder a crime of passion? Or was it a means to keep the whistle-blower from exposing company secrets?

Quick and easy, the mystery was pretty captivating and well-informed. The possibilities were endless and it was easy to get lost in all these theories. I did think that there were too many characters, which opened up to even more fruitless possibilities, but, fortunately, it did not deter the focus from the case, which was deeply involved and multifaceted. I thought it was much too speculative at times, and, honestly, I was more interested in the murder than the money-laundering. It’s still a pretty good read though.

All in all, it was great investigative journalism and a hunt for the story of the century.

4.5 Stars for the 4th book of this Series and also my favorite.
A womanizer, Harold Otto, is murdered in a crime of passion. Unlike most crimes of passion, this is premeditated murder carried out in a very violent manner. There is no shortage of suspects. So many women had motives to kill this “Casanova” wannabe, I needed an organization chart to keep them all straight.
As with the past books, the author does a good job balancing the suspense with the relationship between the married journalists, Leo and Vivian. There is certainly added pressure on their marriage, with Leo being moody due to his dissatisfaction with his job and Vivian being filled with guilt from keeping secrets from her husband. Then there is Leo’s dad that treats his family like pieces of a Chest game.
The best “Who Did It” books are the ones that keep me guessing. This author has a knack of keeping her readers in suspense. There are red herrings and a twist or two which makes for a captivating plot.
I look forward to the next book starring Mr. and Mrs. Bronson.

This third instalment in the Palmchat Islands Mysteries series is an excellent read, light yet engaging with lots of twists to really keep you hooked from beginning to end. I was also really pleased to see Viv's secret FINALLY get revealed, though it was a little annoying to have Leo whining through the whole book again (so much so that it lost a star for me). I'll be interested to see what impact this has on their relationship in future books.
Anyway, if you like mysteries with a twist of romance, these books are definitely well worth reading. I'm looking forward to seeing what dreadful thing happens next on the small Palmchat Islands!
NB I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I always give an HONEST review based wholly on my own opinions

This is the 3rd book in the Palmchat Island mystery. When a womanizer who works for the power company is murdered and Leo realizes this was the whistle blower who didn’t make their meeting the investigation begins. Vivian and her new sidekick Stevie investigate who could have killed the electric employee, Harold. When Harold didn’t show up for his meeting another man approached Leo with a story about the local gang laundering their money through the islands prestigious bank. When Leo’s father wants the story squashed that makes Leo even more intrigued. Between the murder and the money laundering story the couple is kept busy. This book had a lot of red herring, drama and twists and turns. I really loved this book and this series. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

A very easy read, this book is the third instalment in the Palmchat Islands mysteries but can be read as a stand-alone as I did. It started off promising with a murder in the first few pages and the investigation keeps the reader guessing but I felt it had too many twists by the end making the story slightly tedious. Vivian, who was a big part of the newspaper investigation alongside her colleague Beanie were a great pair in revealing who the murderer was but Viv’s ‘tag along’ husband was constantly whinging about his job and made the character very unlikable. Overall a good mystery/detective story and a quick and easy read.

This is a well written story with enough small plot twists to hold your attention. I find that the characters don’t have a lot of depth and would like to see them more fully developed.

A confidential informant comes to Leo with documentation showing that the St Killian bank appears to be laundering money for a dangerous gang. Leo is also dealing with his desire to get back to doing investigative reporting instead of running his fathers newspaper empire. Meanwhile, Vivian is helping a junior writer with an investigation into the death of an engineer.

I received an arc of this book and voluntarily provided a review.

The investigation team of Vivian and Leo are on the case of a gruesome murder. This murder mystery had me turning the pages on the edge of my seat wanting to find out who killed the womanizing whistleblower. This is a well written, suspenseful story with well developed characters and twists and turns that pulled me into the story. I look forward to reading the next book by this author.

This is a murder mystery story with husband and wife working together on a newspaper. They are both very good journalists. The story they are working on is a good one and it is very involved and full of twists and turns. It is quite an interesting read.

I received a free copy of this book to review. This book is one of a series. It could stand on its own with ease. I did at times wish I had the full backstory to understand the characters better. Lots of twists and turns with edge of your seat moments.

Good

The secret that was kept in three books had this anti climatic ending. Fortunately for Vivian, Leo was more apt to put all the blame on his father. The mystery was thrilling.

A husband and wife reporter duo. And a mystery with the murder of a womanizer/whistle blower. Not all meets the eye.
Excellent story with plenty of red herrings!
