Dit deel was echt een ROLLERCOASTER!!
Zo veel duisterder dan het eerste boek, nieuwe personages en interessante wendingen.
Geweldig hoe we meer leren over de magie in deze wereld en ik ben dól op de nieuwe personages die we leren kennen.
En halloooo, de spice, de TENSION?? My goodness.
Ik kan niet te veel verklappen over dit boek vanwege spoilers voor het einde van het eerste boek, but holy shit I loved this.
Het einde heeft een flinke cliffhanger, dus ik kan niet wachten om het laatste deel te verslinden!

Echoes of Magic was a disappointment.
In September I had the opportunity to read Whisper of Witches. Overall, I thought it was a good book. I ended up rating it with four stars and I looked forward to how the author was going to work out the final events from the first, in the second book. I can tell you that although EOM started in a nice way, the narrative gradually fell apart.
Ana, who now has the magic of an entire coven inside her, needs to learn how to control that magic and Ezra who is forbidden to use his own powers, pledges to help. In the past book, Ana had some actions that resulted in the betrayal of the trust of Ezra's mother and her son, but although the mother has not forgiven, the son insists on keeping Ana around and training her in order to keep her magic balanced. During this process, Ana hurts Ezra a few times. He has no way to defend himself, so he is subjected to the latter's outbursts and Ana spends the book apologizing. She apologizes to Ezra, she apologizes to Abby, she apologizes to Silas, she apologizes without having a reason to apologize. Ana was not the most mature character in the first book, but in this one it felt like we were contantly dealing with a child. This somewhat affected some scenes and hindered her growth.
Other situations in which Ana actively participated and directly caused suffering to the people around her, were forgotten by these characters as if they were events from some years ago. After a funeral, there was a party and two characters were introduced to interfere with the relationship that Ana had with Ezra. I often felt that there was a lack of chemistry between the two. I also felt that the only sex scene between the two of them, was super basic and that the author tried to turn this scene into something she shouldn't have tried. The lack of chemistry ruined everything and I couldn't take it seriously. It lacked intensity. I found the scene superficial. Between having a scene like this that looped several things and not having it, I would rather not have it.
Another thing that greatly affected my rating was the confusion of the plot. I understood zero of it. In one chapter the goal was to train Ana so that she could control her powers, in the next Ana wasn't going to be able to control her powers and was going to end up dying anyway. In other chapters, we see Ezra, Ana and Silas trying to get back a jewel that was supposed to free Ana from having this kind of magic inside her, but when they get the jewel to give to the person who was going to help them, the person says it was all a lie. And then Ana does what? Kills everyone. Simple. Even because if before she couldn't survive with the magic in her body, now the only people who had knowledge about this magic are dead. In the end, Ezra sacrificed himself for Ana (basic, after all he only doesn't sacrifice himself for me because I don't participate in the story).
The author's writing had some odd moments. There were passages where she wrote super well, and consistently about what was going on, and then there were times when everything was a mess. The book seemed to be written by two different people.
Will I read the third one? Probably not.

About My Rating:
I hate star ratings. I truly do not like them. They are arbitrary and sometimes misleading. Not everyone has the same taste in books/themes/tropes/styles and I'm sure everyone has loved a book that someone else hate. But, I know people generally find them useful and I know it's important for authors, too. So, with that said, I'm giving this book 4-stars because I enjoyed it. Writing is hard and I appreciate anyone who can come up with a good story AND manage to actually get it on paper and published for everyone to read. There are some elements with the author's craft overall that I think could use with a bit of work, but Whisper of Witches and Echoes of Magic are still solid reads. I am looking forward to reading more about Ana, Ezra, Silas and Abby in the next book which, I'm sure, will be even better.

Faced with the challenge of controlling the magic before it controls her, she is forced into this new world in a literal baptism of fire. Ana’s life is thrown into utter chaos and, as the darkness descends, she fights to save what little she has left; Ezra and her soul.
Echoes of Magic by Nikita Rogers is the second book in her debut Whisper of Witches series. If you like a paranormal romance, I encourage you to check out Whisper of Witches . It’s an easy read with a unique premise that you will enjoy if you liked The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling.
The Pace
Echoes of Magic was a fun, quick read. Although it wasn’t a book that I needed to plow through in one sitting (for which I am known to do), it hooked me well enough to read its 324 pages (Kindle edition) in about three days. The magic system is easy to understand and there aren’t a lot of complicated concepts to muddle through (which is always a bonus for my fried brain at the end of a long day).
The Characters
Admittedly, I wanted to give Ana a good shake through the first half of the book and Ezra could have used a sharp slap upside the head with his quasi-friend zoning business, ugh. But, dark Ana is a bit of a badass and the ending of Echoes of Magic paved the way for a gloriously tortured Ana. She is already struggling to resist the numbing allure of her power within so there's no doubt that she will be faced with a multitude of moral dilemmas and hard choices.
In Echoes of Magic, we are also introduced to the coven council members, Silas, and Abby. There is definitely something fishy going on with Ezra and Anora, ew. And there’s more to Silas that I hope will be revealed in the next book. I’m a big fan of Abby’s character and I loved her role in the story.
I don’t know if it’s just me, but I get the feeling that there’s a hidden, darker side to Ezra. I have a suspicion that everything isn’t as it seems with him. He seems almost too nice. Maybe he and his father were actually colluding together? Or maybe he is just a super decent guy? Let me know if you picked up on that vibe or not.
The Originality
Nikita Rogers does a good job at incorporating popular themes and tropes in Ana’s story. From Ana and Ezra’s ‘insta-love’ to Ana’s ‘fish out of water’; paranormal experience, Echoes of Magic slots well into the paranormal romance genre. And, with the introduction of Silas, there is a bit of a love triangle vibe that fans of the trope will like (I personally don’t care too much for a love triangle drama).

But I’m not sure where the spicy level is going to go for the next instalment given how this book ended. There are a lot of loose ends to tie up and Silas is too yummy to go without staring in any spicy scenes of his own.

There are a few issues that could do with some polishing but, overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the second instalment in this series. The story itself is engaging and fast-paced. I appreciated how the story developed and the direction set up for the next book.
It was interesting to meet the wider coven and see how magic is wielded in this world. Silas was a strong addition to the cast and I hope we get more of his background in future books. Abby (Ezra's sister) was another welcome introduction after only hearing about her in book one.
The violence was definitely more explicit in this book but the author provides content warnings at the start, which is always a great sign. I'd highly recommend this series if you're looking for a witchy October read.

Witch stories always have a special place in my heart, and Echoes of Magic is no exception. 🖤 The world Nikita Rogers created is enchanting, and I couldn’t get enough of it. That’s also my only tiny critique – some scenes felt a bit too short for me. I just wanted more time to fully immerse myself in the magic and drama! 😭
Ezra, though. 😍 He’s such an incredible character, and I can’t wait to see what happens next in the final book (even though I’m sad it’s the last one 🥺).
If you’re into witches, compelling magic, and characters you’ll totally fall for, this is definitely worth picking up! ❤️🔥

This is Nikita Roger's second bookand it certainly doesn't disappoint. I feel bad for Ana and Ezra now that Ana's magic is dark. I can't wait until the book. If you are into witches and are looking for a good Halloween read this book is definitely for you.

I absolutely loved this story! I loved following Ana and her new normal and learning about her new life and where she fits in. I also loved the new characters. I hope we hear more about them in that future! Bravo Nikita!

The first one was good because it was a little cutesy, but this was trying too hard to be edgy and angsty. Also we’re really just going to gloss over the fact that Ana burned her boyfriend’s father at the stake and no one actually mourned him or got mad at her? What?

i would say this is a solid 4 star book but i’m giving it 5 because i enjoyed reading this so much. this is so much better than the first one!!
