Seeing the future isn’t all it’s cracked up to be… but even with my powers, I never saw the dark god coming.

It was an unbreakable prophesy. He immediately asked for my help to break it anyway. I told him no.

He doesn’t understand the word no.

I am the Blood of the Moon,

The Queen of the Vanir,

The most powerful witch in our realm,

and a Valkyrie.

And yet… somehow, here I am…a prisoner, locked in a blood oath with this brutal ruthless god to help him break an unbreakable fate.

I’m already half in love with him. He feels like my future, but how can he be when he’s doomed to die?

Maybe I’ll just kill the gorgeous bastard myself. He should be careful about underestimating me.

dnf @ 76% I JUST SNOOZED THROUGH A BDSM SCENE 😭😭😭

DISCLAIMERS:
1. I am giving a rating even though I did not finish this book because by the point I dnf'd there was no chance of the book redeeming itself by my rating scale (and, from what I hear, it only gets worse). However, if I'm going to leave a low rating, I feel like it's only fair to explain why.

2. I have read one other Kitty Thomas book and absolutely adored it! Even though this book did not work for me, I very much look forward to reading her other books and highly recommend them .

3. SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

REVIEW:
Drawing on Norse mythology, Valkyrie is a modern-style retelling of Freyja and Odin's epic love story.

Freyja is Queen of the Vanir and a volva (witch/seer), unmatched in her abilities. Renowned for her beauty, power, and sexual appetites, males of all magical ilks desire her. Many have attempted to win her hand or even hold her hostage. As a result, Freyja has developed her magical abilities so as to never again feel vulnerable or be at a man's mercy.

It’s very important to me that you know that Freyja has thirteen Norwegian Forest cats that follow her everywhere because she’s an ICON.

At some point before the story takes place, Freyja, disguised as an old woman, seeks out Odin, the Aesir King, to tell him that she has prophesied his death at the epic battle of Ragnarok. Present day, Odin is waging war against the Vanir to manipulate Freyja into living with him so he can make her fall in love with him and thus somehow avert this inevitable fate—even though Freyja told him doing so was impossible. I feel like there are other ways to woo a woman than forcing her to live with you, but sure.

To end the war, Freyja agrees to Odin’s terms—Freyja and her twin brother Freyr will come live with Odin in Asgard, while Odin will cede Mimir, his highly esteemed advisor, to the Vanir. Disguised as an old man, Odin tricks Freyja into drinking bespelled mead so she forgets his prophecy and they sign a contract in blood to make the deal official.

Personally, I don't love romance where the relationship is based on a lie; because it's such a poor foundation for a relationship, this trope often makes it difficult for me to suspend disbelief and root for the romantic pair to end up together. And, no matter how endearing the story, there's always the predictable and painful fallout. I get it, though—gods are messy. In any case, Odin is not doing himself any favors right from the start.

For a while, the two play power games and antagonize each other. In his true(?) hot guy form, Odin appears in Freyja’s chambers and she unknowingly tries to seduce him to get back at her captor. When it’s revealed that the man she’s groping is Odin, not some random hunky warrior, and Freyja is understandably irate. She soon gets her revenge, however, when the Vanir deliver Odin Mimir’s severed head.

During this incident, Odin gets riled and his beastly berserker side surfaces. Discovering that she is a valkyrie, Freyja is able to soothe Odin’s rage. Odin’s Berserker recognizes Freyja as a his fated mate and marks her.

Odin’s like, calm down, it’s nbd, the mark will go away. Both he and Freyja agree that UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should Odin's berserker finish the claiming ritual (biting during sex) because they do NOT want to be tied together permanently. Odin just wants Freyja to fall in love with him, move mountains to save his life, and then go on her merry way, I guess.

“The Berserker” manifests as a voice in Odin's head that I can only imagine sounds like the Hormone Monster from Big Mouth.

In the following days, Freyja notices that Odin leaves the castle often and without warning or explanation. Unbeknownst to her, Odin is visiting the human realm to recruit soldiers for his berserker army.

Freyja and Odin have a steamy moment and Odin offers her half his berserker army if she’ll let him fuck her, because man is down bad. Sadly, before they can consummate, Odin is called away on urgent business.

I genuinely enjoyed the first third of the novel. Odin and Freyja had great enemies-to-lovers chemistry. It was fun to watch their antics, and the marking thing was hot.

After their interrupted tryst, Odin disappears again—this time for weeks—and for some reason Freyja misses him. Like, a lot. She’s super horny but uncharacteristically doesn’t want to sleep with anyone other than her big, virile captor🥺. During Odin’s absence, his berserker mark fades.

Odin returns just as Freyja's about to fuck his twin brothers (because they remind her of Odin) and suggests they all enjoy Freyja. Freyja says she will only fuck Odin if he signs over half of his army to her, as promised. Then, in the most lackluster threesome scene I've ever read, Odin's brothers fuck Freyja while he watches. Afterwards, Odin's berserker marks Freyja again, proving that Odin does not have it under control, contrary to what he insists.

Trusting a man who says "I can control my berserker, I won't claim you, I swear!" is the equivalent of trusting a man who says "I'll pull out, I swear!"

They sign another blood contract wherein Odin grants Freyja her pick of his men and Freyja agrees to fuck Odin whenever and whereever he wants. When you screw each other over so you can screw each other…. In one of this book's few actually hot scenes, Odin tries to seduce Freyja into loving him. However, he quickly decides that's the wrong approach, and instead takes Freyja to the human world (NYC, to be precise) for a getaway. Obviously, a shopping spree is the way to Freyja's heart. I'm oversimplifying a lot of stuff, and I guess it's sweet that he wants to spoil her, and she’s eating it up, so...

In general, I was really confused about Odin's romance strat. What are you doing, man? Tamlin did it better. TAMLIN.

Anyway, the human world is full of whozits and whatzits galore, and Freyja loves it. She tastes a hamburger and french fries for the first time and tries to figure out what a TV is. Odin leaves Freyja in the hotel and disappears again.

I swear, with the way Odin is gone 75% of the time on "important business," HE MIGHT AS WELL BE MY DAD.(meme cred goes to Dana)

Freyja gets bored and goes to explore (not taking any money with her or anything), and some guys corner her with intent to assault. Freyja's magic doesn't work in the human world (Odin’s does though 🤗), and she is paralyzed and helpless. Luckily, Odin arrives just in time, literally goes berserk, and rips the men to shreds.

It really frustrated me to see Freyja so helpless. Not only is she helpless, she is utterly clueless. Freyja is set up as this strong woman archetype, but there were so many episodes in this book that felt inconsistent with that character. That is not to say that strong women cannot feel powerless, but I struggled to believe that Freyja, with her history escaping men's grasps, adamance that she will never again be vulnerable before a man, and as the leader of a people at war, wouldn't have picked up some self defense skills along the way. I do get that the point was that Freyja is softer than her tough exterior, and I am firmly in favor of FMCs who are both hard and tender. I just hated this damsel in distress moment; Freyja deserved better.

Fleeing their crime scene, the pair return to the gods' realm. Back in Asgard, Odin and Freyja have PIV sex for the first time. Yawn. Odin struggles to hold back his berserker from claiming Freyja, but doesn’t bother to mention this to her. Wouldn’t want to make her distrust us, would we?

In the morning, Freyja wakes up and suddenly freaks out. Somehow, she realizes that Odin's tricked her and seeks her friend Hyndla's help to figure out what exactly Odin has done. Hyndla reveals Odin's true identity—or, at least, helps Freyja recall the prophecy. But, oh no, now Freyja realizes she's fallen in love with someone destined to die! She's obviously pissed at Odin, but also—as Odin hoped—determined to save hime. Hyndla tells Freyja to seek the four dwarves.

Following Hyndla's instructions, Freyja finds the dwarves' cave hideaway and meets... four taller than average, unnaturally attractive men cooking chili in a modern apartment. Sure. They promise to make her "an object of great power" to save Odin, but they have to use her strong feminine energy/sex magic in order to do so. This means that Freyja must spend a night with each of them and she can't tell anyone about it. It's super important that Odin not know, because he has to actually accept death in order for her resurrection magic to succeed.

Each night, Freyja returns to the dwarf cave to make good on her bargain. The dwarves have elemental magic so, each encounter centers around her current lover’s essence: earth—the physical realm, water—emotions, air—intellect, and fire—passion (I'm assuming, based on tarot, I kinda started skimming here. Maybe fire is pain). Every morning, Freyja returns to Asgard. Odin—the man who is best known for being absent—gets suspicious of Freyja's nighttime activities and sends Loki to spy on her.

That's about as far as I got. After the fourth cringe sex magic scene, I knew there was no way I could get into this book. The worldbuilding was so messy that I was pulling my hair out, I felt no connection to the characters, and the sex was incredibly dull. From what I hear, the narrative continues to devolve into slut-shaming and revenge cheating, so I'm good not continuing on.

FINAL NOTES:
I know I’ve been coming down really hard on Valkyrie, but there were things I enjoyed about the book! I felt that the characters speaking in modern language worked and offered an unusual twist to a high fantasy world. Also, the folkloric elements seemed more or less consistent with what I know of Norse folklore (which is basically limited to Neil Gaiman’s Norse Mythology).

The things that ruined the book for me: the plot and characters were so messy and the world building was confusing and annoying.
One thing that bothered me from the start—I never understood why Odin needed Freyja's love. Was it just to make her feel compelled to do everything in her immense power to protect him? Was it to fulfill a different part of the prophecy? I don't get it. It feels manipulative and very ACOTAR. As a result, I was not invested in seeing their relationship succeed.

The characters were so mercurial in their love/hate for one another. They make an abrupt and inexplicable about-face from antagonistic to affectionate. I don't understand what Freyja sees in Odin. Man is always GONE. And you know he's not trustworthy.

Freyja didn’t work as a strong female archetype for me – even as someone realistically flawed and soft. I don't want to say that Freyja was a "too stupid to live" heroine, but…it was close.
Odin was unlikeable and irredeemable and, unfortunately, not in a hot villain way. It was frustrating that Odin, a god king, whose power and potential are limited only by imagination, uses his power to party and spend extravagant amounts of money (stolen from ATMs) in New York and Vegas.
The world building made no sense. The gods have indoor plumbing and butt plugs, but Freyja doesn't know what lotion is? Yet the dwarves have a modern kitchen including a microwave (which baffles Freyja).

I’ve definitely oversimplified a lot in this review and I think you’ll see from the overwhelmingly positive reception that most people really enjoy this book! Please don’t let me discourage you from reading it. It just made me really, really irritated.

Kitty Thomas warned me Valkyrie was in an entirely different league from everything she’d written before, and she wasn’t kidding!
She’d been teasing me with it for quite some time now,and i thought i was ready, but boy was i wrong!
What she delivered is mindblowing, spellbinding, magical and truelly magnificent.
If anyone could pull this off, could do Odin and Freya’s story justice,it’s Kitty.

Valkyrie is a story that blows your mind, not only with the detailed world building, but with the characters in it,too.
I’m not going to give you any details, you really need to go in blind to enjoy this rollercoaster ride to it’s fullest.

I wíll tell you that getting the ARC of this beauty is a special gift that i will treasure for a very long time!

A dark, mythological fantasy, Valkyrie was filled with drama, action and witty banter.

I love Odin. He was tricksy and seductive.

Freyja was an absolute queen. She was so strong and I loved her from the very first chapter when she came into her powers.

While different from Kitty's usual offerings of dark contemporary romance, Valkyrie was well worth the read.

4.75 stars!

Valkyrie was so surprising! I have not read a lot of Kitty Thomas because she writes romance that is entirely too dark for me. However, Valkyrie is much lighter without losing that Kitty Thomas literary punch.

Diving into Norse mythology, Kitty gives life and heat to Freyja and Odin. Freyja is many things...a Goddess, a Queen, a witch, and a Valkyrie. Odin is a God...powerful, resourceful, and a berserker. Ragnarok and Odin's death is creeping closer and he isn't going down without a fight so he decides to use Freyja in the hopes she will change his fate.

"Freyja's fury may be a powerful thing, but her love is even greater. If she loves something, no one could ever stop her from saving and protecting it."

Fate is a funny thing though and can one ever truly escape it? Is Odin hearing the whole prophecy of his fate? Can Freyja save him?

Valkyrie was full of twists, turns, and lots of great action. I loved the development of Freyja and Odin's relationship. Freyja is not what Odin expected and I loved seeing him discover there is so much more to her. Freyja was a strong warrior and held her own but she also had this sweet vulnerability about her with Odin. She wasn't whiny or annoying and I really appreciated that. Odin's berserker was a unique part of him and was so well written. Who can't love the whole "mine" romance. This was steamy but also incredibly sweet. Even the steamy bits that weren't necessarily with Odin didn't bother me all that much. THAT is how good of a writer Kitty Thomas is. The ending had me tearing up and I was rooting for these two lovebirds the whole time. I hope Kitty continues to write in this world!!

Overall, if you like strong heroines that change the stars and heroes that realize their woman's worth even before he falls in love, then definitely give this gem a try. Freyja and Odin, despite their initial grievances and plans, were fated and it was EVERYTHING.

"I love you, too. We have a lot of story left, you and me."

Kitty Thomas has jumped into another genre and it is mind blowing and spectacular!
Freyja and Odin's story is magical, mythical, and intense. This couple has so much passion and chemistry and it's blissfully exciting.
Valkyrie took this reader on a roller coaster ride through riveting scenes, with trickery and so much action, I could not put it down.

This is my favorite book of 2022.

I'm not super familiar with Norse mythology but I do know that KT is one hell of a writer. And if anyone can bring Freyja and Odin's story to life, it's her.

Freyja and Odin are so complex. Freyja is a goddess, a Queen, a powerful witch and so much more. She rules firmly and fairly. But there is a depth to her that I'm not even sure she was completely aware of. Odin, on the other hand, is a god, a king and a warrior. And he is running out of time.

You can't fight fate, though. Or can you?

This is like nothing else you've seen from KT. It's devastatingly heart warming. I felt every single emotion while taking this journey with Odin and Freyja. By the end of it all, I knew more than just their story. I could actually feel their love. It's so moving and so powerful.

It's destiny.

I have no idea where to begin this review. I read it, moving slowly through the pages, absorbing it.
Kitty Thomas told us this was unlike any book she ever read before.

She was correct, but I still loved it. For me Kitty Thomas is a must read. She wrote it, I want it. I've been so fortunate to come across her stories.

The fact that this had a HEA also got me swooning over our lovely characters Odin and Freyja, I admit I had a hard time not imagining some of the people from Marvel, but what an outstanding book.

Great job, thank you so much for writing this captivating novel!

Wow. Just fabulous. I absolutely loved this story. Odin and Freyja are just the perfect couple. Odin tries to trick Freyja into helping him escape his fate which she believes isn’t possible. His hope is that she falls in love with him and will change her mind. But he’s slowly losing control of his own game and his heart in the process. Now he won’t confess to the real reason he wanted her in fear that she’ll never forgive him. But in doing so, he’s sealing his fate he tried so hard to change.

I absolutely adore Norse mythology, so I was really excited when I found out that one of my favorite authors was writing a story based in that world. Valkyrie marks this author's departure from her usual style of dark romance, though you can definitely still sense her distinct voice and humor in this book. Freyja is not her typical heroine either. This is a strong heroine, an experienced woman who knows her worth and her strength. She's powerful in her own right and can fight her own battles. To be honest, these types of heroines can be hit or miss for me, but I fell in love with Freyja. She is one of the more entertaining heroines I've read lately and I really enjoyed being in her head. Now Odin is on a completely different level. He's a charmer and neither Freyja nor I seemed able to resist him for long. The level of heat between these too was outstanding. They were exceptionally well matched in every way. In addition to this enemies to lovers romance, there's an intricate plot full of twists, turns, betrayals and redemption. The book is long and well developed, there's a lot of intrigue and action and I really found myself immersed into the world Kitty Thomas created here. I would absolutely love to get more stories set in the same universe in the future!

Kitty Thomas is my go-to author when I'm looking for some dark romance erotic goodness. When I found out she wrote a norse fantasy romance, I was surprised and excited to jump into it!

Freyja is sassy and capable while Odin is gruff but playful. They butt heads as enemies do, but come together with feral passion. I really enjoyed the fated mates aspect, how Freyja has a valkyrie in her while Odin has the berserker and they're drawn together in that manner.

This book is told in dual POV form. I expected the writing to be Old English leaning (you know, the usual fantasy/medieval mode of speaking) but it was mostly modern. I was taken out of it a bit with the mishmash but the modern phrases are justified by Odin's travels to Earth in order to amass his berserker army.

The smut scenes were really enjoyable; Odin and Freyja don't claim to be monogamous so there's MFM where Odin just watches his BROTHERS take her, lots of Odin/Freyja action, and scenes with a few other characters that aren't Odin.

I do wish this book spent more time in Freyja and Odin's dimension instead of Earth. I was intrigued with the powers and their world and didn't really care for the shopping and opulence the two indulged in on Earth. Yes I loved Odin spoiling Freyja and showing her what she's been missing, but we just spent so much time there.
I also felt that the world building could've been stronger. There's a lot thrown in here about the realm, people, and culture that isn't really explained. I took a Scandinavian myths class in the past so I have some background knowledge and wasn't entirely lost, but I felt like this could have elaborated a bit more especially because this is meant to be romantasy. The ending was a bit rushed but things wrapped up with a HEA.

Overall, I liked this, am impressed with KT's foray into this genre, and I'm excited to read more.

Kitty Thomas crafts the most amazing homage to feminine sexuality I have ever read! Freyja, Queen of the Vanir, the blood of the moon, the giant killer, volva and valkyrie, is one of the most powerful Goddesses in all the alternate realms. But she loves cuddling her cats, cries with slight provocation, and is ruled by her love of her people. Even with her magical prowess and her future sight, her most atavistic power comes from her sexuality. Odin, King of the Aesir and the original Berserker, seeks her allegiance to thwart his prophesied demise at the jaws of Fenrir at Ragnarok. This is Freyja and Odin's love story and it is powerful. It is intense. It is incendiary! It's also full of fun, humour, and a little angsty. (Odin's commitment-phobia had me wanting to stab his remaining eye!) I bypassed many others to rush this to the top of my TBR and it was worth it!

When Kitty started writing this story, she promised something epic, something better than Comfort Food, and as a dedicated reader of all things Kitty Thomas I was doubtful, cause how could she possibly top that story… well, she didn’t lie and she topped it and then some. While Valkyrie isn’t in the same genre, it still gives you the story of two individuals whose worlds were meant to intertwine, based on the story of Odin and Freyja; this book gives you dedication, selfishness, selflessness, great side characters, and a world you want more of. It took me a few days to read the story, not because I couldn’t get into it but rather I had to dice myself to stop so that I could enjoy every minute of it and make it last! It was a longer story for Kitty but seriously could have been a thousand pages more, it was just that good. While gods and mythical creatures may not be my go to read, I am beyond glad I took Kitty’s word and read this story…

Wow wow wow! Kitty Thomas dipped into a new genre and boy did she do it perfectly!! If you have read Berserker, then you will really appreciate this a bit more too (highly recommend reading that if you haven't already!!) This is different from her usual books, but no need to fear because it is just as amazing, captivating, and pure perfection! Hooked from start to finish! The action, the suspense, the steam, just.. I got no words except you have got to pick this up for yourself to see the beauty!!

The angst between Freyja and Odin is quite indeed a beautiful thing to witness. The twists and turns, the push and pull... complete perfect 100%. They are like magnets, moths to flames, yin to yang! Complete fire, soulmates through and through. Both strong and fierce as he**! The book was written in such a way that you stay engaged from start to finish wondering what will happen next! I mean... I was mesmerized from the very first word to the very last word. I also loved and appreciated all the things I learned about Norse Mythology.. super interesting, so if you love Greek Mythology and that type of stuff, you will definitely be entranced by learning a bit about Norse Gods and Goddesses. Definitely pick up this book for a beautiful, magical ride! I need moreeeeee ASAP pleaseee! :)

This is DEFINITELY one of my favorite books by Kitty Thomas 🖤 There were SO MANY aspects that I loved, and found intriguing, about this story!! Freyja and Odin…..Need I say more 😍🔥 It starts out with Odin, needing a witch, to save his life. It becomes so much more!! Odin and Freyja are strong characters, and when they start feeling more for each other…..IT IS FIRE 🔥 I love how these two give each other a run for their money, because neither one will take the other’s s**t!! I loved their push and pull 🤗 Also, Freyja is just BADASS plain and simple 🤩 I’m familiar with Greek Mythology (Hello Persephone and Hades 😍), but I’ve gotten some education about Norse Gods/Goddesses. Kitty’s book, Berserker (which I also loved ♥️) is also about Norse Mythology. Even though that book is not a duet with this one, they’re still a part of the same timeline. I learned there are many different dimensions in Norse Mythology. It’s all extremely interesting!!
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK 💙🖤

Blown out of the water! Kitty kept saying this was different, and she had moved in a different direction from her normal stuff, I was a little apprehensive because of my love for all her previous books and wasn’t sure what to expect. However she has always kept me hooked from the first line so I was excited to read it.
I need not have worried a second! She promised this was her best work yet and she wasn’t lying! Wow, wow, wow, people you gotta read this! This is a action packed whirlwind with twists and turns that you can’t put down until you finish. I keep saying that about all of Kitty’s books but it’s true!

What an absolutely fabulous read by an excellent author.
This one kept me transfixed from beginning to end ~ SUPERB writing with fascinating characters wonderfully fleshed out that the reader is intrigued by & needs to know more about. What will happen, how & why. A stellar plot that kept me on tenterhooks, invested & engaged.
All beautifully balanced within the story with superlative writing that pulled me deep into this one & didn't let me go until the last word.
Simply awesome.

I want to be Freyja!

I loved this book. I loved so much about this story. I rooted for Freyja, I couldn’t resist Odin, even if he deserved resisting. I want a book about dwarves now! Don’t even get me started about Loki. I felt it started off a bit slow but I was all in soon enough. I sank into the story and could not put it down.

There is just something so engaging when a story, based on characters you know, is done so right! This is one of those stories, because while we ‘know’ Freyja and Odin, we don’t know them like this. These two have sizzling chemistry and explosive passion, and both those things make for some interesting encounters. They also connect on a cerebral level, they are both of the same ilk, and that causes some great clashes and some greater understanding. Needless to say, the story pulled me and I gladly went along for the ride 😊

Many people are going to think Kitty was tooting her own horn when she said this was her best book.
She has every right to do so.
Of all the books I've read of hers, this has been the best.

We all know the story of Odin and Freyja. Now forget it and read this.

Learning of his demise from a fortune teller, Odin tried to think of ways he can make it not happen. We all know that the prophecies can't be changed but that doesn't stop him from trying.

Freyja is the key he needs. She will probably be upset when he finds out what exactly he wants of her but what's a little deceit between gods?

Freyja knows what fate Odin has but thanks to altered Mead she doesn't recall that she was the one who told him. Due to her not knowing, she feels she has to do something about it.

Let's add in the fact that Odin has a Berserker inside him and Freyja finds out she is a Valkyrie and that Berserker really wants that Valkyrie to be his and no one else's.
Odin does NOT want that to happen. He only wants her to help him not die. The berserker has other plans in mind though.

A volva and a valkyrie
A god and a beserker
An ill-fates prophecy

How can you save the one you love from an unbreakable prophecy. This story is about Freyja and Odin and their journey to becoming one of the most powerful couple.

From all the stories this author have published, this is by far her greatest masterpiece. She is know for her very dark romance that aren’t for everyone but this new shift in her writing is chef’s kiss. Don’t worry there’s still a lot of spices with a little bit of darkness

Kitty has officially made me an emotional mess with this phenomenal book. I laughed, I cried, got angry and swooned - hands down, this is one favorite reads of the year.

Freyja may be the most powerful volva, but she is so much more. This Valkyrie is confident, stubborn, brave and I find her hilarious. She is one of my favorite female heroines I have read in a long time because with all her strengths, she proves that emotions can be just as powerful as actions.

Odin is the god of war and of the dead but Kitty gave him this personality I wasn’t expecting at all and I loved it. He’s just as charismatic as he is deadly. I couldn’t stop myself from adding him to my harem of book boyfriends.

I love the push and pull between these two. It’s hilarious at some points, while being aggravating and truly heartfelt in others. How these two come together is one of chance-filled fate, but how they dare to challenge and change fate to stay together is the proof of how love can change lives.

Kitty and her deviously talented self took me on a ride I didn’t want to get off with this tale. It ticks off all my boxes with what I want in fantasy and added a few more. I love the character development and how this talented author played everything out. The combination of old world magic with modern day realm and the side character development is pure perfection. It’s definitely a step out of her norm, but a flawless one. I can easily see myself reading this again and am beyond excited to see what she writes next in this universe.

DNF. NOT FEELING IT.

Clearly I'm the odd man out. The blurb reeled me in signed, sealed and delivered but I don't know I wasn't feeling it. The heroine came off as BITCHY in capital letters, and I didn't like that. I found it annoying. As always I say there's a fine line with sassy and bitchy, and I'd take a Showalter or Cole type of mouthy heroine any day. I get that Vaklyries' are supposed to be strong warriors, never take shit lying down and don't need a man (obviously a feminist) in her life and she can be a sex kitten with a hundred different lovers....but gosh that's sooooo not my thing.

If you like headstrong, cunning/manipulative characters with a hint of sexual tension that just smacks your right in the face...well this might be your cup of tea. Personally I prefer Kitty Thomas's prior stories, the darker fucked up ones with hints of sensual seductiveness. Those were good.

I love that Kitty Thomas decided to dip her toes into a new genre! This woman can write! I loved reading Valkyrie so much that I was so deeply involved in the story that I wasn’t paying any attention that I was at “The End” that when I got there I was astonished. I read this book in one go.

Valkyrie is Odin and Freyja’s story. Their attraction is so magnetic and electrically charged!

Kitty Thomas isn’t afraid of writing such a sexy book and I appreciate that! I love this book and I look forward to reading more in this genre or any other genre that she chooses to write! 5 STARS all the way!!!

This was an amazing read that I didn't want to end. The story was spot on. I loved the humor, the steam, the emotions the characters went through. This is definitely one I will read again.
