Venom Baseball #2

Owning the Game

Rate this book
A Billionaire Baseball Romance
I hate baseball, and no matter how hostile and absolute that particular word is, it’s the only way I know how to express my feelings about the sport that has brought so much pain to my family.

My unpopular loathing for America’s favorite pastime wasn’t always the case. As a little leaguer, I eagerly awaited opening day alongside my teammates. But as I grew older, my enthusiasm faded and was replaced by predictable disappointment.

I began to resent the hours I spent practicing and dreaded game days. They were just another reminder of broken promises. Each time my father said he’d be at my game and didn’t show, it chipped away at any hope of having a relationship with him.

I’ll give him some credit, though. He taught me a few of life's cruel lessons that I carry with me to this day. First, that trust is earned by one's actions, not words. The other was to never put the key to your happiness in someone else’s hands.

Kaylee Rose is a mother, sports fan, and contemporary romance author looking to stretch her creative muscles and explore other genres as well.

Inspired by her husband's career in law enforcement, and her passion for the written word, Kaylee began to pen her novels as an escape from the rigors of everyday life. She admits teaching herself the craft of writing has been a tough, but wonderful journey, and is just the creative outlet that she needs. Writing time is her time, and she protects the hard-won moments fiercely.

Kaylee’s series The Weight of the Badge was written after she attended required law enforcement classes with her husband. The seminars focused on the stress a first responder faces daily, how it affects their lives both on and off the job, and the continually growing number of law enforcement suicides. With her books and her experience married to a law enforcement officer, Kaylee found herself armed with the perfect platform to use her voice and subtly spread the statistics others may not know. Kaylee Rose is passionate about sharing sexy stories with an important message mixed in.

Kaylee’s husband is her biggest supporter, believing in her even when she can not, and writing love stories comes naturally to her after falling in love with him at first sight.

This is book 2 in the Vegas Venom Series and we get Dylan and Raquel's story. Once I was able to get into the story I could not put down. He's one of the owners of Vegas Venom and she owns a flower shop. They meet and he falls for her she's leary of men due to how her last relationship ended. This kind of left on a cliffhanger, wanted the rest of the story. Hope we get that in the next book. Really well written and can't wait for book 3

AVAILBLE NOW- OWNING THE GAME - BOOK 2

My original strategy of sticking my head in the sand and ignoring the stack of papers on my desk has finally caught up with me. The deadline to accept the offer or walk away from the largest investment opportunity I’ve ever been involved in is fast approaching, and with my business partner breathing down my neck, I can’t put it off any longer.
For what feels like the hundredth time today, I scan the section of the contract relating to the division of team ownership and financial responsibilities.
“Did you find the clause you were looking for?” My executive assistant, Julianna, interrupts my musings.
“What? Sorry, I zoned out.” I toss the papers on the table and remove my glasses.
“Hey, are you feeling alright?”
“Yeah, I’ll be fine. I’ve reread the same sentence five times already.” I pinch the bridge of my nose and squeeze my eyes tight. “The words are starting to blur.”
“I’m not surprised. We’ve been going over this contract for six hours without a break.” She stands, walks across the office to my desk, and grabs the bottle of prescription migraine pills from the top drawer.
I pour myself a glass of water and take the two pills she’s holding in her outstretched hand. “Thanks, Mom,” I tease. Although Julianna is almost ten years younger than me, she looks after my well-being just as much as my actual mom does.
“Don’t roll your eyes at me, mister. You need to take better care of yourself.”
“I already run ten miles a day and Brazilian jiu-jitsu training twice a week. If I had more time, I’d start preparing for the marathon I’ve signed up for next year.”
“You know I’m not questioning your fitness level. It’s the headaches. They’re getting worse and more frequent. I’m making an appointment for you to see Dr. Oxley next week.”
“No, I’ll be fine. It’s just this contract.”
“I’ve never known you to be so conflicted about a business deal before.” She places her copy of the contract beside mine.
“This one carries a hell of a lot more weight than anything that’s ever crossed my desk before.” And maybe it’s because it feels like I’m making a deal with the devil.
“You know, most men would kill to own a piece of a professional baseball team.”
“True, but I’m not like most men.”

I'm not usually one for reading romance, but this was less slushy and more story-based. That's a bonus for me and I found I enjoyed Dylan and Raquel's story because of that.

As main characters, I enjoyed their journey, and they were written well.

There wasn't much baseball in it, aside from the male lead owning a team. Also a plus!

It was a very easy read and the surprise twist towards the close of the book gave it some much needed grit.

Well done!

Great Story

I really enjoyed this book. It’s a wonderfully told story. Characters have good depth and interesting side characters. Dylan and Raquel both have past pain and trust issues. Ride along as they work it out and get their happily ever after. I highly recommend this book.

I really loved Owning the game and I loved the two main characters Dylan and Raquel, along with other characters from the first book. The story flowed really well, with romance, and a bit of suspense that kept me engrossed the whole time. Congratulations Kaylee, I loved this read.

A Home Run!

Kaylee Rose hit it out of the park with Owning the Game! Dylan and Raquel’s story was fantastic. I haven’t read many sports romances and I really enjoyed this one!

Dylan, one of the owners of the Vegas Venom baseball team, and Raquel, owner of a thriving flower shop, Romance in Bloom, have both been unlucky in love. Being a billionaire, Dylan’s romantic history has been with women wanting only what he can give them; when he meets Raquel, he keeps the truth of his identity a secret. Dylan is sexy, charismatic, and truly a good person. I loved his character!

After Raquel finds her treacherous fiancé in a compromising position with his secretary, she’s wary of trusting any man. Desperate, in jeopardy of losing her business and her home, she puts her faith in the wrong person and finds herself in a dangerous situation no one could have imagined. Raquel is independent, a little sassy, kind and genuine. She’s perfect for Dylan.

This book is a charming and witty, steamy and sweet, slow-burn romance. Add in baseball, billionaire romance, suspense, danger, he falls first, found family, emotional healing and some really great characters and this one is a winner!

It ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I can’t wait for the next book!
