Previously released as Diary of an Adorable Fat Girl
Mary Brown is funny, gorgeous, and bonkers. She's also about 50lbs overweight. When she realises that she can't cross her legs and has trouble bending over to tie her shoelaces without wheezing like an elderly chain-smoker, it's time to take action. So, one rainy day she puts down her pizza and heads off to Fat Club, where she flirts, causes mayhem, and celebrates every pound lost with a huge glass of wine. The friends she encounters, and a man she meets, change her life forever.

I HAVE THE BEST, MOST LOVELY, LOYAL, SUPPORTIVE READERS IN THE WORLD. Here are some of my reviews:
"I adored the various storylines, loved the quirky and captivating characters, and was beguiled by Ms. Bloom's colorful and highly amusing writing style. I am hopelessly addicted. More Fat Girl, please!"
"The book was just a delight to read. Every time I picked the book up I could guarantee that it was going to make me smile. The full-length novel was funny, this one was hilarious, and heart-breaking at the same time. I was completely and utterly hooked to the pages and didn't want the book to end."
"The last thing on earth I need is another addiction, but I fear I have acquired a new one for the cunningly amusing author Bernice Bloom and her wily Adorable Fat Girl series. Mary Brown is an adorable yet outrageous Queen-Sized trouble-magnet and party animal who manages to embroil herself in the oddest of quandaries."
"I can't recommend this book enough. This series is fast becoming my favourite and I can't wait to see what's in-store next for Mary. I urge you to pick up these books, you won't be disappointed!"
"Cruise with an Adorable Fat Girl is just THE most heartwarming, funny and emotional read. It's great to have a more real life heroin
i picked this up bc of meri brown from sister wives (they have the same names) but oml this book was baddddd rlly promoting a y2k ideal of wanting to be skinny and if ur fat ur disgusting and must hate urself so much the whole thing was so bad rlly promoting skinny amazing fat bad like all of the fat shaming going on was rlly unrealistic in my opinion but yeh overall i don’t tbink i was it’s target audience at all like thank god i grew up in a generation of acceptance felt a bit sick at some of the lines said tbh
also the fat shaming that was happening i thought was sometimes unrealistic not that fat shaming doesn’t exist just that i feel like it’s often more covered up than what was shown
i just wish it was more of an emphasis on loving urself bc the main character talked shit about herself sm like i couldn’t imagine being a size 22 (as the main character was) and reading this like it could just crap over all ur self confidence
Gave up reading at 25% due to the lack of storyline and the boring characters. I had more fun notifying my Kindle of all the spelling mistakes, which says it all!!!
Loved this book. It would be easy for the reader to identify with Mary if they had emotional issues which affected them to the extent that they were overeating thinking this would solve all their issues. Good Book club choice. I have just come to the end of this book and discovered why Mary's emotional issues affected her extreme eating habits. Such a shock I wasn't expecting that!!
This enchanting story revolves around Mary, a relatable protagonist who grapples with her weight and self-esteem. She joins a local support group as she embarks on her journey toward a healthier lifestyle. Throughout her time in the group, she not only learns to navigate the ups and downs of weight loss but also forms genuine friendships with a diverse cast of characters who each bring their own quirks and humour to the table.
The narrative is light-hearted and filled with amusing moments that will surely elicit genuine laughter. The author’s witty writing style and knack for creating relatable situations make it a delightful experience. You can’t help but feel invested in Mary’s journey, rooted for her successes, and even share in the occasional misadventure that brings a smile to your face.
While the book is incredibly enjoyable and features many heartwarming moments, I must admit that the ending left me a bit wanting. This may have been the intention, as I have since discovered that this series has 12 books in total. Have I ordered the second instalment? Of course, I have!
Overall, I absolutely adore this author—her ability to weave humour and empathy into her storytelling is genuinely remarkable. The characters are crafted with care and relatability, and you wish for all the beautiful things to come to Mary.
If you’re looking for a delightful read that will lift your mood in the dark days of winter, I recommend this book.
First book by this author. It was free for Amazon Prime members. Mary is a really big woman, she decides she wants to loose weight. She joins a group like over eaters, she calls it " THE FAT CLUB" She wants to turn around and run well waddle away before she gets to the door. But she goes on unto the meeting. She learns a lot, she needs to find the core issue she was having when she began overeating. She knows but does not feel comfortable telling anyone her story. She learned to embrace the group and even made some great friends, and found a boy friend. But Mary always messes things up. Will she get it together? Will she get to keep the guy???? Or is she too self-destructive to keep him or anyone for that matter? Just a nice relaxing easy to read and a quick read.

This is the first book in the series, and overall, it was an enjoyable read. The story is lighthearted and filled with humorous situations that Mary finds herself in. Much of the plot revolves around her struggles with weight and her budding relationship with Ted—who is, quite honestly, the best boyfriend ever. He’s incredibly sweet and adds a charming dynamic to the story.
I do wish she would get away from Downstairs Dave, she leans on him to much an would like to see him be removed in the rest of the series.
If you’re looking for a fun, easy read with a dash of humor, this is it. Just be prepared for a few formatting hiccups along the way.
Hilarious. I found myself laughing hysterically throughout the book. Some parts were a little vulgar for my taste, but a majority of it was great.
However, there were quite a few annoying typos and formatting errors that really bothered me. One or two, no big deal, but I was beginning to wonder if the book had actually been edited. This was probably my biggest annoyance with the book. I've ordered the second book in the series, and I'm hoping the errors are less.
Overall, while it isn't my usual genre, it was a nice breakup from the more serious books I usually read.
This book was...okay. I did not care for some of the language or sex or all the alcohol use. The main character is just frustrating at her lack of concern for others and her lack of any sense of self. Its as if she's just bumbling along life drunk and not thinking. Others found this books humorous but I didn't. I'm sure it's a great read for some, it just wasn't for me. I will not be continuing on with this series...I was barely able to finish this one. Maybe it gets better? I won't be finding out.
I don’t quite know what made me choose this book. But here we are, I didn’t want it to end up the way it did. This couple needed proper help to understand their problem, and that didn’t arise. Yes they ended up happy ever after, but I didn’t feel it was the right way to end. I mostly felt very sad about them (even though they said they were happy). But deep down I don’t think they were, Sorry to put a damper on this, but just my personal opinion.
I picked up this book because the reviews I saw said it was hilarious and laugh out-loud funny. In my opinion, it was not. It was an easy read, but often times things were repeated. And there were so many typos! This is the first book I have read by this author and probably the last. I will not be reading the next books in the series.
Wonderful light hearted story funny made you cry. Loved Mary and Ted. Story about there journey into the Far Club classes. And you should never judge people why they are fat, some have medical reasons others have sad stories about when they were growing up. ❤ Cannot wait to read the next book.
Great characters, a funny outlook and a serious side, too, with characters that you grow to love coping with their daily weight struggles. I have laughed a lot reading this.
I liked this book. I could relate to Mary, having a few extra pounds myself. I haven't always felt good about my size either. The book has some funny parts. I look forward to reading more of this authors books.
The life of an overweight woman and her struggles to overcome the reason she is so distraught. Joining a weight loss group and making friends with others in the group helps her with her insecurities and finding someone who loves her for who she is.
I loved this book, I loved every character and the entire story. It's rare that I read this genre but I am going to read all 11 of Bernice Blooms Mary Brown books and I know I will love them all. ♥️
Really funny book and can relate to how she feels at times. Even cringing at times. Just a shame it finished on such a downer I know things happen but enjoyed the book.
DNF I got halfway through but had to give, I got really fed up of her getting ridiculously drunk and doing stupid stuff, I did not find any of it funny. The way she describes herself is sad and depressing tbh
This was a fun read between mysteries and thrillers. I am not as large as Mary but I have attended weight watchers years ago and I can certainly empathize with her struggles but I love the book handled it all humorously. The airport scene had me laughing out loud so much! The scene in dress shop was great and of course all the catastrophes in Amsterdam. Good book!
