A Murder of Crows #2

Only Happy When It Rains

Rate this book
Snubbed. Jilted. Exiled. Being left at the altar would have been better. Instead, I'm sent away to a secluded spot where I can't disturb the happy couple--on my honeymoon without a bride.

Left to lick my wounds and recover from the ultimate betrayal, I do what I do best.

No, not admit defeat. Not recover my dignity like I'm unaffected.

Plot revenge.

Lucky for me, I have a companion on this otherwise lonely island.

The only question is... Will she be the victim of my revenge schemes?

Or my partner in crime?
This is book 2 in this series, about a new couple who was introduced in book 1.

**received ARC for honest review**

This book was dark. Like pitch black. It had me questioning my own mind at some points and some parts were a little hard to read BUT I could not put it down.

My heart broke for Scarlett. I love a tough heroine any day but this girl was filled with daddy issues and insecurities but was still kind and bold and courageous.

This book had lots of action, lots of k!nk$, and made me feel a ton of emotions throughout. I was laughing, then my chest would ache, then I would swoon, then my heart would race, and then I’d be hurting again. I didn’t know up from down.

I enjoyed it but I do warn, it is not for the faint of heart!!!
PLEASE CHECK TRIGGERS— I do not say that lightly! 🖤

# The h's dad slept with her best friend, so that totally excuses her reason for being a bully and sleeping around when she was in high school (you kidding me 😠!?!).

# I hated the h and H (ow and om from the previous book aka part 1) so maybe my rating is kinda warped 🫤.

# It's kinda disturbing that the h gets raped twice in this book. She gets raped by some man first and she orgasms (coz she has rape fantasy) and then she gets drugged and gangraped later where she almost dies.

# It's puke-worthy when the H and om (H from the first book) keeps saying that she's tight though she slept with so many guys 🤢; and when the om (H from book 1) says that his wife should learn how to give a bj from h coz she's good at it 🤮 (what the hell!!???!!).

# The h was vain and shallow.

Let me simmer on the rating and review for this one.
Not my favorite from this author but an enjoyable read. I’m wondering if the authors heart was in writing this book or if her fans pressured her to write this one. It’s doesn’t have that 10/10⭐️ feeling like her previous books have given me.

Review
Lennox and Scarlet have a sadist/masochist relationship. If you love dub/con and non/con.. literally tons of rape from the MMC and not,
Consensual Non/consent
chasing/stalking, choking,
blood/knife play,
overly dominant and possessive vibes.

Lennox wasn’t who I thought he’d be. Out of the bedsheets, he’s actually a soft and romantic gangster. He wants love, marriage, and babies.
Scarlet owns her truth. She acknowledges that she’s completely selfish and highly obnoxious. She was a character that was very very hard to like, understand, and agree with any of her actions. I honestly don’t understand what Lennox sees in her.

“I want to see the fury flashing in her seafoam eyes, like some treacherous siren luring ships to their death, before she realizes she’s met her match, and that I won’t be captivated by her siren song. I want to see the savageness swept away, replaced with terror, as I strip her power and leave her at my mercy.”

Scarlet always thought she was in love with Lennox’s brother Maddox. But we all know from book one that Maddox married Rae. Scarlet was nothing but someone that warmed his sheets and Lennox always thought that he was in love with Rae.
When Maddox sent both of them off for a vacation to keep them away from him and Rae, these two quickly become lovers and open up to their deepest and darkest desires, and play around with one another. Mix in some motorcycle club enemies, stolen diamonds, and some random drama.
“I’m not a gentleman. I’m a murderer and a gangster, and she’d be a fool to forget it.”

3.5⭐️

I had to sit on my rating and review overnight...

This book has a lot of trigger warnings for a reason and even though I don't shy away from such triggers, in this book though, it felt like it was forced in a way and didn't come naturally with the story line.

I LOVED Lennox right from book 1, and I was rooting for him. Don't get me wrong I love Maddox as well but I always knew Lennox was more than a psycho. Underneath it all he just wanted to be seen and chosen first. Lennox + Scarlett, it's the good paring for sure.

* * * SPOILERS * * *

It was an enjoyable read for the most part and there were moments that I could not put the book down but after about the 60% mark, once Lennox and Scarlett ferried over to the island to make the trade with a rival gang, it was CHAOS (not in a good way). There are no other way to explain it other than a 'complete frenzy of triggers'. It felt like the author was trying to fit every trigger action in that scene.

There were guns, then there was a chase, and then more suspense, then rape, throw in thunderstorms, then there was a house maze?!?! LITERALLY A HOUSE MAZE? WTF? Lennox and Scarlett sneaking into a house maze and hiding in the attic. How does that make sense? Even as they were except the house had doors that opened to nothing. LITERALLY NOTHING. Oh and then there was a sex dungeon. Seriously it was so chaotic that I thought I accidentally skipped pages.

I know Scarlett bouncing back from her 'SA' was a testament to how her mind works and a reflection of her inner demons but it just didn't seem realistic. I'm talking an hour or two bounce back to her wanting to jump Lennox's bones.

Also... we get it. Scarlett's dream is to be an actress. No need to beat a dead horse. We get it.

Honestly I almost liked booked 2 more than book 1 until about 65% into the book. After the frenzy of violence that gave me whiplash between all the different ways I could be shocked within a few pages.

SCARLETT FREAKING STONE
I liked her but then I didn't. Overall she was a baddie and her development to owning her crazy had me screaming with pride. I love it but I do feel like the book was pushing the idea that her rebelling solely due to her dad ignoring her and sleeping with her best friend. When really... I think it's that PLUS all her past trauma. I feel like the plot was too focused on her dad and him sleeping with her best friend vs. history with the Pastor and the SA, which led to her constant nightmares. Now I'm not saying the SA from her Pastor needed to be highlighted with a whole chapter dedicated to the issue, but recognize it was more than a girl throwing a fit cuz daddy didn't give her attention and slept with her BF. Scarlett was more than a pretty face that was acting up cuz daddy decided to be a pervert.

If you read the trigger warning page, then this book isn't for you. You need to be an unhinged-no-triggers person for this book.

I dont honestly know what to compare this to... I can't really say I've read anything like this before.

The plot and story were super unbelievable, but in all honesty, you are reading it for the smut, so you just have to forget the unrealistic plot and push on, haha. The characters are both 19, so expect teenager behavior.

If you're looking for an insane smutty book, then this would be the perfect book for you, haha. Just don't go in expecting amazing plots and mature characters - your expectations just need to be crazy smut 😅

Okay, Selena, ma’am?? You had no right making this book so deliciously hot and spicy. I went in thinking it’d be a moody, maybe steamy read but I was not prepared to unlock an entirely new character trait.

This book dragged me into the rain, threw me into a storm of tension, angst, and scenes so unexpected, I had to physically pause and ask myself, “Do I… like this?” (Spoiler: I did. A lot)

It’s the kind of story that makes you blush and gasp and giggle and question your morals all at once. Just when you think you know where it’s going bam. It swerves into the kind of kink you never saw coming… but suddenly can’t get enough of.

I went in curious. I came out feral.

If you’re looking for a book that’s equal parts moody and mouthwatering, with characters that linger in your mind and under your skin. Just… prepare to meet a side of yourself you didn’t know existed.

I devoured The Rain King, so when I knew Lennox was getting a book, I knew I had to read it.

All he wants is revenge, and poor Scarlet gets all his rage and more.

𝑀𝓎 𝒷𝓇𝑜𝓉𝒽𝑒𝓇 𝒾𝓈𝓃'𝓉 𝒽𝑒𝓇𝑒 𝓉𝑜 𝓈𝒶𝓋𝑒 𝓎𝑜𝓊, 𝓈𝑜 𝑔𝑒𝓉 𝓊𝓈𝑒𝒹 𝓉𝑜 𝒷𝑒𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝓌𝑜𝓀𝑒𝓃 𝒷𝓎 𝓎𝑜𝓊𝓇 𝓃𝒾𝑔𝒽𝓉𝓂𝒶𝓇𝑒.

⚠️PLEASE CHECK TRIGGER WARNINGS BEFORE READING!!!⚠️

Lennox was UNHINGED I mean, what a psycho, but we all knew he had a dark side.

𝐼 𝓁𝒾𝓀𝑒 𝓈𝑒𝑒𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝒽𝑒𝓇 𝒻𝒶𝓁𝓁 𝒶𝓅𝒶𝓇𝓉, 𝓈𝑒𝑒𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝒽𝑒𝓇 𝓅𝓇𝑒𝓉𝓉𝓎 𝒻𝒶𝒸𝑒 𝒶𝓁𝓁 𝓈𝒸𝓇𝓊𝓃𝒸𝒽𝑒𝒹 𝓊𝓅 𝒶𝓃𝒹 𝓉𝓌𝒾𝓈𝓉𝑒𝒹 𝓌𝒾𝓉𝒽 𝑒𝓂𝑜𝓉𝒾𝑜𝓃.

Scarlet was one strong bada$$ lady, but who knew she had a dark side?

𝐼𝓉 𝒻𝑒𝑒𝓁𝓈 𝓁𝒾𝓀𝑒 𝓎𝑜𝓊 𝑒𝓃𝒿𝑜𝓎𝑒𝒹 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝒸𝒽𝒶𝓈𝑒. 𝒪𝓇 𝓂𝒶𝓎𝒷𝑒 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝒻𝑒𝒶𝓇 𝒾𝓈 𝓌𝒽𝒶𝓉 𝑔𝑜𝓉 𝓎𝑜𝓊 𝓌𝑒𝓉.

These two are broken, and that's why they worked so well together. I know that Scarlet was still hung up on Maddox, but I don't think she could have found a better match than Lennox. They were soulmates.

𝒴𝑜𝓊𝓇 𝒽𝑒𝒶𝓇𝓉, 𝓎𝑜𝓊𝓇 𝓈𝑜𝓊𝓁, 𝓎𝑜𝓊𝓇 𝓉𝒾𝑔𝒽𝓉 𝓁𝒾𝓉𝓉𝓁𝑒 𝒸*𝓃𝓉. 𝐼 𝒸𝒶𝓃 𝒽𝒶𝓋𝑒 𝒾𝓉 𝓌𝒽𝑒𝓃𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓇 𝐼 𝓌𝒶𝓃𝓉 𝒾𝓉. 𝒴𝑜𝓊𝓇 𝒷𝑜𝒹𝓎 𝒾𝓈 𝓂𝒾𝓃𝑒. 𝐼'𝓁𝓁 𝒻--𝓀 𝓌𝒽𝒾𝒸𝒽𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓇 𝒽𝑜𝓁𝑒 𝐼 𝓌𝒶𝓃𝓉, 𝒽𝑜𝓌𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓇, 𝐼 𝓌𝒶𝓃𝓉 𝓉𝑜, 𝒶𝓃𝒹 𝓎𝑜𝓊 𝒸𝒶𝓃'𝓉 𝓈𝓉𝑜𝓅 𝓂𝑒, 𝒷𝑒𝒸𝒶𝓊𝓈𝑒 𝒾𝓉'𝓈 𝓃𝑜𝓉 𝓎𝑜𝓊𝓇𝓈 𝒶𝓃𝓎𝓂𝑜𝓇𝑒. 𝐼𝓉'𝓈 𝓂𝒾𝓃𝑒.

Selena is pure magic. Her writing is amazing; she can make you feel so many emotions, and you know you should HATE a certain character, but she ends up making you love them, and she has twists and turns like no other writer I know.

𝐼 𝓊𝓈𝑒 𝓅𝑒𝑜𝓅𝓁𝑒. 𝐼 𝒽𝓊𝓇𝓉 𝓉𝒽𝑒𝓂, 𝒶𝓃𝒹 𝐼 𝓁𝒾𝓀𝑒 𝒾𝓉.

A Murder of Crows duet has been one heck of a wild ride, and I can't wait to see what she writes next.

Arc listened to in exchange for an honest review.

I actually preferred this story to book 1. And I wasn’t a Lennox fan in book 1 and I absolutely hated Scarlet. But this one answered and opened up new possibilities for them. Their character growth was interesting to read. I have to admit at times their relationship felt far fetched, but it was incredibly entertaining. I definitely enjoyed this plot and story more than book one, it felt like an adventure. I also was able to easily understand why both couples ended up where they did and who they ended up with. Those Lennox and Scarlet felt jilted by Rae and Maddox, it was easy to pick up on. Lennox only wanted Rae to hurt her and Maddox and to feel like he finally beat Maddox. Scarlet only wanted Maddox for protection and to piss off her dad. This 90’s throw back was an awesome edition to her Faulkner world!

When I tell you everything about this book was perfect. I thought that I was in love with Maddox and his madness but nothing could have prepared me for Lennox. Like his and Scarlett's story was the epitomie of a dark toxic lovely time. It was raw and unfilltered and I loved every moment of it.

I knew Lennox had some proclivities that we touched on in the previous book but the fact that Scarlett was his perfect match made me so happy for him. He found what he thought didn't exist for him and that in it's own way was beautiful to watch, him be able to be happy. The way that Lennox loved up on my girl was amazing he wanted her to see that she was beautiful and special imperfections and all. Scarlett is a fave of mine, after getting the background on what had gone down in her life it made me understand her character more and why she was the way she was in HS. I cried and laughed and I hurt for my girl, she was put through it multiple times and still managed to stay strong and I loved that about her Character. She might have been beating down and damaged but she never broke for anyone (unless it was Lennox cause he built her back up and loved on her). She is a real one...Badass queen B behavior.

There were so many moments that I teared up and cried which honestly thank you cause I know a book is good when I experience a shit ton of feeling and I know for a fact I should never expect nothing less from Ms. Selena...She can write my life any day. Thank you so much for allowing me to read this masterpiece!

BOOK IS A 5 OUT OF 5 READ!!

Ah-maz-ing!!!!

Everything I wanted and more! Lots of triggers which I love and actively search for in books. 😈
I read this in two day and didn’t want it to end. I personally think this is better than the first and I absolutely adored Lennox’s bad side.

Always a big fan of Selena’s and have yet to find a book of hers I don’t love! So sad, it’s over with and can’t wait for her next book to come out!

This book is so well written I can see it playing out in my head. So much action, spice and angst! This book is a must read for any dark romance girly! The spice is amazing but the storyline, plot and twists and turns… holy mackerel! This is a book I would happily read again!

This was only my 2nd Selena book and I didn’t read the Rain King so I was nervous! However I was so entertained by this book I felt like I was watching a suspenseful action movie the entire time. I couldn’t put the book down and it was so vivid I could picture everything. A few things I loved was the 90s vibes, and the 90s songs as chapters. I loved the chemistry and bond between Scarlett and Lennox, they are so wild, unhinged, & so vulnerable with each other about the things they like and want to try in the bedroom. lennox was so morally grey but he took such good care of Scarlett and they had some really sweet and vulnerable moments with each other. I felt like their inner dialogue was a little lengthy so I just read through that quickly because I’m someone who doesn’t love long descriptions but it never took away from the story or my love of the story. *ARC REVIEW

This was the darkest shit i’ve ever read…almost DNF but it was like a car wreck you couldn’t look away from. I thought I had read dark romance before but this took in a whole new meaning of dark romance. Some parts were disgusting and had to skip through but somehow I couldn’t put it down. Somehow through all the dark there was a super cute love story HAH. Def wouldn’t read again and don’t recommend.

ARC received in exchange for an honest review

This book was definitely soo crazy. It's dark er than anyone ever think a dark romance could get. It's my first book that I've read from this author and i can say that I'm very impressed. The Book sets off with the story from Lennox so Madox's brother (for people who read the first book which i didn't do) and Scarlet.

About the FMC Scarlet Stone:
As someone who didn't read the first book about Madox and Rae's story i felt really bad about Scarlet. Basically Madox dumps in the beginning of the book. Scarlet is 19years old and wants to someday be an actress. She got all the looks to achieve this dream. She is confident and incredibility funny. At the same time she keeps it very real and I really enjoyed her bubbly side in comparison to Lennoxs grumpy side. But just like everyone Scarlot has got a dark fantasy that she never got to act out until she finds Lennox. My heart breaks for her in what happens in this book. I seriously cried in one part so be aware! But I love her character development in the end.

About the MC Lennox North:
Lennox is literally the ultimate psycho in a dark romance. He is brutal and cold. He sticks to a type of women because he knows that others couldn't give him what he wants. But when it comes to Scarlet we see an interesting dynamic starting to form. He is still brutal and ruthless but with Scarlet he can switch and become the most romantic person. He literally bathes Scarlet and carries her for the majority of the book. Just like Scarlet he has his dark fantasy which he cant go without.

The spice in this book definitely needs a massive TRIGGER WARNING. The scenes contain a lot of red liquid and primal *minks*. I do also want to point out that this book is very heavy on the CNC so you have to always keep that in mind while reading this book. Because if you want some sweet love scenes you ain't getting it in here. To make up I have to say that Lennox really cares about aftercare and making Scarlet feel safe.

The Plot of this book is actually quite good. I didn't feel bored wile reading this book and in some scenes I was actually on edge hoping everything would go well. The pace is quite fast but that is also due to the fact that they are in forced proximity.

All in all I would recommend the book to a special type of dark romance readers as some things just can be too triggering for some. This is the book for all the people that love dark and twisted people with a great storyline.

5 stars! Visceral!

Only Happy When it Rains is the second installment in Selena's A Murder of Crows Duet, with a different couple, but a continuing plot. For that, I would advise to read book #1, The Rain King, first.

I teally enjoyed the first story, but this one completely broke me and put me back together. If you loved Maddox's madness, Lennox's is another dimension up! I wasn't his fan in book #1, but I would choose him always after book #2.

The end of the first book didn't seem very auspicious for Scarlett Stone. Certain she was going on a trip with her boyfriend, she was in for a surprise, life altering events and the man of her nightmares that could very well be of her dreams also.
Lennox might have started as a 'villain' but, when going deep enough, you knew he was rather an antihero with the most admirable and protective soul. The only one taking notice enough to see Scarlett for exactly what she was, a girl with a dream of becoming an actress because she had been playing a role all her life and it was the way to have the attention she so desperately needed. Scarlett was insecure due mostly to her daddy issues, a drama queen at core, a facet that would show providential for the journey ahead.

Everything started askew with mixed feelings, plans of revenge and survival, a mission to accomplish and a one-week vacation on the Atlantic's icing shore instead of the Hawaiian warm waters. What follows is a turbulence of internal conflicts, defiance, twisted games, exploration and raw emotions as well as danger, preseverance, diamonds and the realization they were it for each other.

There is so much to talk about this book that I would have to include spoillers, so....I'll just say that this is not for the faint hearted and easily triggered. It's dark, kinky, brutal and gory, active and reactive, visceral and exposed.
But their quest and emotional growth, connection, ensnarement and final entaglement is all so worth it, so felt and appreaciated, you couldn't wish for more.
In the end, we know they were not so alone or invisible, everyone was meant to be around one another, together, as one.
It was always the hunter and the prey and A Murder of Crows!

Absolutely loved it!

4 ⭐️

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I loved this book! Good plot, good story, & good spice.
🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️ - Great spice-plot balance.
Triggers ❗️

This review will probably contain spoilers for The Rain King - Book 1 in A Murder of Crows. You should start with that book first!

Only Happy When it Rains is Lennox’s story from The Rain King (Book 1). I was very happy to see that this book picked up right where book 1 left off, even though there are different MCs. I needed to know what happened in the aftermath of Maddox & Rae’s story! Maddox forces both Lennox and Scarlet to take a “vacation” together. While I wasn’t exactly on board with Maddox’s reasoning for doing this, I liked the fact that Lennon & Scarlet’s relationship evolved through their proximity to each other.
I did really enjoy this book but I wouldn’t say I enjoyed it as much as I did The Rain King. I do believe that Scarlet’s character in Book 1 influenced my opinion of Book 2. I will admit that I was afraid that Scarlet wouldn’t redeem herself for me. After the way she treated Rae in high school, I didn’t think I would ever be able to connect with her. The fact that I wasnt fond of her character made me less interested in how her story played out. However, the girl really goes through A LOT in Only Happy When It Rains. While she’s not one of my favorite FMCs, I did eventually grow to like her. She’s feisty & definitely a drama queen, but that’s what I liked most about her.
I really had a love/hate relationship with Lennox in Book 1 but I was pleasantly surprised with his character development in Book 2. The way he treats Scarlet is so drastically different from the way he treated Rae. My heart actually hurt for her when he began to reveal some things about their relationship. I was happy to see that he was capable of feelings!
Overall, Only Happy When It Rains was a good follow-up to The Rain King! Before jumping in to Book 2, definitely start with Book 1! I feel as if the connections are necessary even though the character POVs are different. Also, mind your triggers!

Only Happy When it Rains is the second book in A Murder of Crows Duet. It can be read as a standalone as it features a different couple but the plot is integrated with book 1 so I would advise to read book 1 first.
This book features Lennox and Scarlett. Lennox and Scarlett are sent on a trip together. Scarlett is the girlfriend of Maddox who is Lennox twin brother. If you read book 1 you will know the story behind Maddox and Lennox. Scarlett thinks she's going on a trip with her boyfriend but while sat on the plane waiting for her boyfriend Lennox turns up having been forced to take the trip to get him out of the way and also take on a job. A lot happens in this trip which neither of them thought would but it all works out how it was supposed to.

I loved book 1 and couldn't wait to read this. I didn't think anyone would overtake Maddox but Lennox came along and pushed him aside. I didn't like Scarlett or Lennox in book 1 but the more I got of their story the more I felt for them. Scarlett was an amazing character, she was broken and insecure but tried to hide it. I loved how Lennox was originally going to use her for revenge but he saw through her mask and made her see herself for what she's worth. He built her up and fell in love with her. I loved Lennox, he started off as a villain but the way he could be really protective over Scarlett was great to read. They are the perfect match for each other, they both have the same . I loved this story and these characters. I definitely recommend it but beware because it is a dark read with many triggers so check if you have any. If you have read any other books by Selena you know what your getting.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Selena has done it yet again!!! I absolutely love with this book. I was excited to read the blurb and couldn't wait to get my hands on it. I read this book in one day; I couldn't stop until the end. Only Happy When It Rains is the second book in the series, but can be read as a stand-alone. I am going to read the first book after I write this review. Selena is my favorite author to read. She writes these heartwrenchingly gritty stories. I love the world that she created. It is written beautifully, with vivid detail, and an unpredictable storyline, which I love. I loved all the twists and turns throughout this book. I was on the edge of my seat and biting my nails, loving every minute of this story. This book is very dark. If you have any triggers please read this book with caution. I loved how Selena used the Top 40 from Rick Dee's Countdown. The songs were songs I loved and had gone through my head while reading the chapters.

I so feel for Scarlet; she wants to be wanted and loved. I just wanted to wrap her in a hug and tell her it would be okay with all that she went through. At first, I thought she was weak and a people pleaser, but as the story progressed I realized she was a fighter and determined to get what she wanted. Lennox was dark, broody, and a little crazy. I really enjoyed his character. He had zero ef's to give. I loved his possessiveness and the protectiveness he started to show towards Scarlet. Their journey through this book was heartbreaking, stomach-dropping, fist-pumpingly tragic, and romantic. I loved their love story so much. The push and pull they experienced around each other was hot and terrifying. I was addicted to their story and cried when it was over.

Selena writes the craziest of psychos but Lennox somehow is the SWEETEST and the CRAZIEST.

This book was a rollercoaster of emotions, action and crazy hot sex 🩸🔪🫠🥵🚩🌶️

If you’re a whore for primal and 🩸play like me, this is the book for you. Jesus Christ 🥵🥵🥵

Scarlet was such an amazing character to read and I related to her in so many ways. It was journey of self love and realizing self worth for her. She just wanted to be SEEN and Lennox showed her she was more than just a pretty face and a body weaponized for sex. But also used her as his f*ck doll and I loved that aspect of the story.

The action and gang scenes were so fun to read and I loved the island scene so much! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time they were running through the island and the Mayhem Manor.

‼️‼️‼️‼️MAJOR SPOILER & TRIGGER‼️‼️‼️

I’ve read a lot of dark books and SA scenes (I read the bonus chapter in book 3 (I think) of Royal & Harper’s book so if you read that then you know what I’m talking about) but that scene with Scarlet ripped my fucking heart from my chesttttt. I haven’t been so physically hurt by a scene as much as that one. I don’t know why but goddamn I had to stop for a second 😭💔 I think maybe because she was such a lovable character and so pure, seeing her break when it wasn’t by Lennox gutted me.

Overall, I really don’t think Selena could write a book that isn’t 5 Stars. Scarlet and Lennox secured a special place in my heart by the end of this book.

I read the first book in this series and really enjoyed it. I had forgot this one was even coming out till I started seeing it in the author's book group and was like, wait a minute. So I was excited. Now I'm more like, meh, about it.

This one basically picks up where the first one ends. While I don't think you have to read book 1 to read this one, it would make it easier to understand the dynamics and why things are playing out like they are.

Basically, Maddox (Lennox's twin) arranges for Lennox and Scarlet to be on this "vacation" together. Really it is a job that Lennox has to do, but pretending to be Maddox. Scarlet is along for the ride, so to speak. Craziness ensues involving a rival gang, some diamonds, and a mysterious island.

Scarlet's dad had it somewhat right about her...she isn't very intelligent. But being desperate for love (since her dad had his own issues and that led to Scarlet have some daddy issues), it makes sense why she goes for what she does when it comes to men. And Lennox is more than willing to give it to her because like calls to like. He sees the darkness in her that is a reflection of what is going on in him, but he also sees the beauty in her that she doesn't see in herself.

It was a bit all over the place. Heavy on the dub-con and non-con (which those are two triggers that I enjoy so I was here for it) with some primal/hunt action in it. Major trigger warnings for rape/sa. Some on page and some off page.

𝗕𝗲𝗲𝗽, 𝗕𝗲𝗲𝗽, 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗚𝗼𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗞𝗲𝘆𝘀 𝗧𝗼 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗝𝗲𝗲𝗽?

Have you ever had a story that you wanted to slow down because you didn’t want it to end—to savor every bit of the characters and events? Author Selena’s “Only Happy When It Rains” did just that––really, the entire Faulkner universe has made me feel this way.

Selena writes such multi-faceted characters and knows how to develop them so well that as the story progresses, what initially seems to be an irredeemable character becomes someone you can easily fall in love with.

In “Only Happy When It Rains,” Lennox, Maddox’s twin brother from the “Rain King,” and Scarlett, Maddox’s girlfriend, find themselves together. All Scarlett wants to do is be an actress, but she goes in an entirely different direction with Lennox, who leads the way—a way to darkness, danger, and betrayal.

These characters wholly enraptured me. I wanted to give Scarlett a good shake so she could wake up to see she was worth much more. And Lennox—should I hate him, fear him, or think he’s hot? That’s the beauty of Selena’s writing, and readers will question his intentions until they don’t.

“Only Happy When It Rains” is another winner in the Faulkner universe. It just keeps getting better!

I received a copy of this book for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.

if you have triggers this book isn’t for you

When I say this book is dark, I mean it’s DARK DARK. After sending his brother to jail and proposing to the girl they both loved lennox is hell bent on revenge on his brother and his fiancé after his brother takes her for himself and sends him of to middle of nowhere with scarlet (his brothers “girl”) to fulfill his end of the bargain. At first it’s just about getting revenge on Maddox his twin, but as the days go by he realizes scarlet isn’t the girl he thought she was and and that his fantasies are safe with her because she has the same dark ones. Stuff goes down after he crosses a rival gang and they are forced to flee the town they have been staying at. After she is kidnapped and tortured for days Lennox and his twin team up with their old gang and put aside their differences to save her. This book is dark probably even darker that The Rain King. I ended the rain king and began only happy when it rains hating Lennox and scarlet but quickly came to love scarlet as her past starts to come to light. I was on the fence about Lennox until he started to show his sweet caring side. In the end I came to love him too! The spice in their book is 10/10 and the mouth on that boy! Whew. If you are as unhinged as me and can handle all the triggers you will enjoy this as much as I do.

I don't really know what to rate this book. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either. I honestly skipped the first book because I saw the same characters, and I hate love triangles it's not my cup of tea. That's what the first book sounded like it was gonna be. By skipping, though, I didn't connect with those characters, and I really hated Rae and Maddox. Scarlet, I have a love-hate relationship. I feel like there was a lot more to her than what you were shown in the pages the guys' mom said she was a good person with a good heart but all you really got to see from her was that she was shallow and vain with a kinky side. I would've liked that to be her outward personality but gotten to see more of a good person underneath. I kinda wish she was more badass too it seemed like it was going that way but never quite reached the full potential. Lennox I honestly loved him I really have no complaints other than why would you chase scarlet through the woods dressed as the enemy and not tell her it was you when you knew she was calling for you that was a little fucked up she said she liked that shit but it's gotta be terrifying to like it when you don't want to and only want it from one person then you're just left wondering what tf is wrong with you for getting off. So yea, I don't know how I'd rate it it's definitely not a 5 star for me, but it isn't a 1 star either.

If you liked the first book in the “A murder of crows” duet, you will love this one!

I was crazy about Maddox in The Rain King.
I definitely wasn't prepared to love Lennox more!
I also didn't think I would appreciate Scarlett so much!

Lennox is forced to go on a trip with Scarlett, his twin's girlfriend, and he doesn't know that Maddox did this to send him away so he can marry Lennox's fiancée.
Will Scarlett be the victim of his revenge or his partner in crime?

I loved this controversial and strong heroine, her craziness and insecurities touched my heart.

I swear this story took me by surprise and I was dying to read its development.

Lennox is a psycho, but he certainly found his perfect match. I really appreciated his evolution and his realization that Rae was just an obsession for him that had nothing to do with love.

Selena really knows how to write male alpha-hole heroes that can violently hurt and fiercely protect their loved ones at the same time.

This story is very dark, no trigger warnings can prepare you for what you will find in this book.

Entertaining, spicy in a tough way and absolutely riveting.
I couldn't put this book down!!!

Thank you Selena for the ARC copy, I couldn't be more proud to be part of your Street Team!!!!t

Thank you Selena for reaching out and the ARC.

“Let’s play a game.”

Lennox is a remorseless, angry, violent man hell bent on revenge. And he was just shipped off to an island with his twin brother’s girlfriend, well ex, she just wasn’t informed. But she’s a little crazy herself because she likes the bad boys. They end up in the middle of nowhere forced to fight for survival. Scarlett is so broken. She craves love, affection, kindness. She’s so incredibly fragile. She’s always settled for less bc she feels like she has no value. That’s what has been ingrained into her brain her entire life. But Lennox change’s everything. He challenges her. Pushes her. And they share the same eccentricities. A perfect match. It just took a really messed up situation to get them on the right path. What a whirlwind. This story is full of action. It will rip into your heart with all Scarlett has to endure. She earns her bones and then some. IYKYK. First time reading Selena and I’ll definitely be back for more.

“I hope you brought your running shoes.”

“The harder you fight, the sweeter my victory,”

“Run little bunny,”

“I want all your screams, Scarlet Stone. I want you to save me every single one of them for the rest of your life.”

“I want to be your everything.”
