My child means everything to me. But saving his life means destroying my best friend’s family…

I didn’t plan to fall pregnant, but when I found out, I was overjoyed. Even though I’d be going it alone, I swore I’d give my baby everything they needed.

But I didn’t know who the man I met on that sweltering summer night, the father of my child, really was.

I decided to keep his secret to protect the innocent… but then my beautiful baby was born with a rare illness, desperately needing a transplant.

Now, as I gaze into my son’s wide and trusting eyes, I know the choice I have to make: for the sake of my precious little boy, I have to destroy my friend’s happiness.

But when the truth comes out, what if saving my baby means losing him forever?

An absolutely gripping and emotional read about the choices and sacrifices we make for those we love. Fans of Liane Moriarty, Amanda Prowse and Susan Lewis will love The Dilemma.

The Dilemma by Julia Roberts
Narrated by Daphne Kouma

I went into this story knowing nothing more than the synopsis and really didn't expect the story to be so mature. Often the "dilemmas" in stories will seem too manufactured but I liked almost all the characters so much that I was invested in how they worked things out. In fact, I didn't think things could be worked out.

There is one great big coincidence that had to happen to make this story even be a story and it seems like it would be very unlikely but once I just let that one go, all I could do is to want for things to work out in the best way possible. There wasn't just one dilemma, there were a lot of dilemmas but Charlotte did make a mistake or two that got the dilemma avalanche rolling, exposing mistakes of others along the way. Recent and past secrets had been kept and if this story teaches anything, it's that in this world, it's better to own up than to keep quiet.

I really liked these characters. Even with their mistakes, I can see why they might be forgiven. So often it's impossible to see past what happens to think that the characters could ever be happy again. Or it will seem like resolutions are forced and don't really fit. I feel good about how this story played out and it gave me a lot to think about in regards to how I might have dealt with certain situations.

The narrator was perfect for the story. Right off the bat she helped me like these characters and she took nothing away from them. Considering the subject matter of this story, this ended up being a feel good book for me, which I would not have expected when I started listening to the story.

4.25⭐ for the audiobook.

Featuring ~ dual 1st person POV, 2 parts, betrayal, unplanned pregnancy, one night stand, married man, friendship, baby with life threatening illness

Charlotte is mad when she finds out her long time boyfriend has not been honest with her month after month when she hasn't been able to conceive. She gives him the boot because she can't forgive his betrayal. When on vacation with her bff, Annabelle, she has a drunken one night stand with a fellow guest that she'll never see again, or will she?

The Dilemma is the perfect title for this one since making a choice to save her baby could cost her one of her best friends. I think all mothers would agree that you would do anything for your children, so the answer is a no brainer.
I hated Zach's secret, but I really liked all of the characters and the way Tiffany handled things. All 3 women have a solid friendship and that shows as the secrets unfold. Overall, I enjoyed it and I'd be happy to read Julia's work again.

Narrated by Daphne Kouma for 8 hours and 1 minute, easy to follow at 2x. I have no complaints about her narration skills as a whole, but wouldn't have minded a little distinction between the 3 female characters voices.

This book has more than one dilemma with a capital "D." It was a bit slow getting off the ground, but once the pieces were in place I could not put it down. Found lots of good stuff to do around the house giving me an opportunity to hear some more from Charlotte and Tiffany. What I most appreciated about this book was the respect for new life and for keeping a marriage intact. All three characters made mistakes and were sometimes not in tune with one another. Ultimately they respect vows and promises as well as being aware of the impact their decisions have on others. There is plenty of confession and lots of forgiveness all around. Would be interested in trying another Julia Roberts title in the future.

Thank you to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for an audio ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A fellow blogger (Robin Loves Reading- a wonderful lady and blogger- she's well worth following) put Julia Roberts on my radar a few months ago, so when Bookouture were organising the upcoming blog tour for this title I leapt at the chance to be on the tour too.
This is a wonderful read, I was thinking about it constantly, telling friends about it and every day looking forward to my bedtime read.
This is a suspenseful read, with a few twists thrown in, but at the heart of it is the dilemma. There are many decisions to be made in this book, with different characters needing to put things on the line, and unveiling their secrets. There are SO many secrets here.
I have mixed feelings about Zak (if you read it, it's obvious why) but I loved the others and the different POVs Roberts gives her readers really adds to the story as more information comes to light.
I literally couldn't stop reading at bedtime, several times I sacrificed my sleep to continue the drama.
I adored this, and I can't wait for the next Roberts book!

This was a surprisingly intriguing read! A well-written women’s fiction themed on friendship and motherhood, barring the too nice climax.

Charlotte has always wanted to be a mother, but her hopes of embracing motherhood are shattered after she ends her ten-year-long relationship. While having a girl’s trip to another country, she has a one-night stand with a stranger whom she later finds out to be married. Devastated for sleeping with a married man, Charlotte is shocked to learn that she is pregnant. Her road to motherhood isn’t easy as her child is diagnosed with a rare illness that would need a transplant, preferably from either of the parents. As the test results deem her an incompatible match, it leaves her with the only other option which is to contact the child’s father.

I wasn’t a fan of the plot, but the execution blew my mind. Despite the story sounding like a recipe for utter sadness, Roberts had a fantastic grip on the flow of emotions. The friendship between Charlotte and her girls was the backbone of the book, and clearly the best part of it. I can’t say that the story was believable, nor were the decisions made by the characters, but I could understand the justifications given. The book screams the importance of honesty in our relationships, and I can’t agree more.

I would’ve enjoyed it more had Annabel stuck to her original decision of remaining childless. Not all women want to be mothers, and it is high time we let them be. The climax was too ideal and had ‘let’s make society happy’ vibes. I know ‘kindness wins’, ‘forgiveness is the key to a happy life’, blah blah but I had an overdose of all the niceties.

The audio was brilliant, and although it took me a while to adjust to the narrator’s accent, I enjoyed her voice modulation and varied pitches. Great narration!

Overall, a quick, heartwarming story!

Thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for the ARC & ALC in exchange for my honest review.

Is honesty always the best policy?

Author Julia Roberts explores the answer to this thought-provoking question in her gripping novel about a dilemma. Her protagonist makes a couple of split-second decisions that ultimately change the direction of her life. You’ll be fraught with anguish at the predicament she finds herself in and will be feverishly turning pages to find out what choices she makes and the ripple effect it has on those around her.

The twists are excellent as is the storytelling. I’ll be honest, though, this one took me way too long to get invested in as I detested the cutesy millennial character names and almost gave up. My advice is to be patient through the first 10 chapters because, all of a sudden, the pace picks up and you’ll not want to put this one down. I turned over the last page and was thankful for the many who’ve given me second chances. Maybe life isn’t really black and white?!

Go into it blind. Enjoy the deliberation.

Congratulations on a fantastic book that I won’t forget any time soon. I appreciate the opportunity to read and review.

I was gifted this advance copy by Bookouture and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

Julia Robert's book The Dilemma is an intriguing and sweet story about love, heartache, friendship, and living with the choices we make. Everyone experiences highs and lows in life, but what you do with them is what matters the most.

Synopsis:
Tiff and Charlotte are best friends through their professional connections. Charlotte gives birth to a son with medical issues. His only chance of survival may involve a life-saving transplant. Will Charlotte risk her friendship with Tiff to save her son's life?

The Dilemma is a very curvy and emotional story. What starts as a slow burn quickly evolves into a page-turner. As I read, I kept thinking how wonderful it would be to turn this novel into a movie. My fingers are crossed for a sequel since the author left room for one. This is my first book featuring Julia Robert's work. It will be a pleasure to read more from such a gifted writer.

The Dilemma by Julia Roberts is available on October 26th.

I want to start with highlighting this amazing new-ish author, Julia Roberts, who is not OUR actor Julia, but a really amazing talent in her own right.

I listened to this novel on a well-done audiobook and enjoyed Daphne Kouma, the English female narrator, from beginning to end. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookotoure Audio, author Julia Roberts, and everyone else involved, I appreciated the opp to read and review this ARC honestly.

It's one of those books that you do a happy dance when you realize you get to read it in advance. So clap-clap!!

The Dilemma, pulled me in immediately. It begins with a compelling story and the strong voice of a young woman, Charlotte, the main character, and her heart breaking issue with her current long-time bf Zach. She discovers he's been living a huge lie. Ugly and UGH. As one who went through infertility, and really, really wanted a child, this pained me and made me cringe! Regardless, the lie IMO was too big to forgive. But let's keep going because it's a very compelling story...what happens next???

Charlotte and her BFF Annabelle go on a premium vacation to get away...to Mauritius. (Hello, I'd love to go there someday before I'm too old to enjoy it - lol!!)

What happens on vacation stays on Mauritius. Right!? Charlotte comes home different than expected - some thrills and excitement along the way with some twists and turns and perhaps a love interest.

And yes, once she's back and things are back to normal..... there is a big, elephant in the room, and it's called a DILEMMA. There's a lot of deep convos amongst those important enough to be involved. Almost like a sit-com of FRIENDS - lots of honest and heart opening and heart breaking convos.

There is also much heartache and pain coming up, and yet love and kindness.....with this small group of friends who somehow weathers the craziness that envelops them. I am beyond impressed. Perhaps this should be THE guide to how to deal with a very F-'d up situation for normal, and not really crazy people? Regardless....You'll grow to love them all - Charlotte, of course, Tiff, Annabelle, JJ....the way you would hope for people and loved ones in your life.,.

I almost gave this 5 * but just couldn't at the end. I was disappointed in (and somewhat appalled at) the ending. NOT A DEAL BREAKER in this beautiful novel. It's personal for me and probably others, but read it, you will get it on one end or the other :)

Thank you so much for this gift, NetGalley and Bookouture Audio, and for sharing this heartwarming novel with me. Your kindness is appreciated! It's absolutely one of my recent faves for #2022. I would happily read another by OUR AUTHOR, Julia Roberts!!

This is one of those times in which I dearly wish we could give half stars on the rating system as this book is worth more than 3 but I wouldn't quite give it 4.

I will admit, I was expecting more drama when I read the publisher description. Given that the dilemma involved infidelity between a woman's husband and her best friend, it could've gone off the rails onto cray cray land...but it didn't. It was a civilized story in which the characters were mature and thoughtful in dealing with the outcomes of the infidelity. Way more mature and thoughtful than I could ever be if presented with that same situation. For this reason, the plot was a tad vanilla for me and didn't ring absolutely true. I expected (and wanted) more extreme emotions from the characters. Another reviewer described this book as "feel good" and I would agree. The dilemma(s) are tackled seamlessly and the characters are all presented as "nice" and "likeable."

I think readers looking for women's fiction with some big interpersonal dilemmas (as there were a few that arose throughout the plot), and likeable characters who say and do "the right thing" with a feel good ending (that was admittedly hard to believe), will want to pick this one up. I was keen to know how the dilemmas would resolve themselves and this kept me engaged.

The audio performance was good. The narrator portrayed the characters authentically, which added dimension to the story.

Thank you to publisher and Netgalley for an advanced audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

This was very original and unexpected, but a pleasant surprise! This is my first book by this author and I’ll be keeping an eye out for her now. I was interested when I saw the book but I just had to get it when I saw the audio was available and I’m so glad I did because the narration was wonderful.

This isn’t really a mystery or thriller, it’s a full on family/domestic drama and/or contemporary fiction. It was actually refreshing. I thought it was going to be too stressful based on the content but it was handled so delicately that it kept me guessing with some suspense but was still also a relaxing listen.

We start out on Charlotte and Zac’s anniversary. They’re celebrating at an island themed bar and both feeling a little too old for it. They go home and Charlotte wakes up and nervously takes a pregnancy test. They’ve been trying for years and it just isn’t happening.

This is when Zac decides to reveal he can’t have any more children and she’s been wasting her time. Unlike most book women, she leaves his butt. 👋🏼 He comes home to find he’s all by his lonesome.

This starts Charlotte's journey on her own. Upon leaving Zac, she calls her old modeling BFF and she helps her get settled. I don’t want to reveal much more because I didn’t know specifics going in and that made it even more interesting.

These friends are put to the ultimate test when a mistake has consequences for the future and can no longer be hidden. How the friends handle it is both heartwarming and breaking. It’s a lovely story with complex characters that mean well but fall short.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to listen and review!

I loved this story, especially the narrator. I could listen to her all day!
I've not read any of this author's other books, but will definitely check them out. This story of three friends at different stages of their lives, wanting different things, has plenty of twists to it. And if you're someone who thinks "that would never happen in real life," I can think of several real-life situations I know of that makes this story very plausible.
Regardless, I enjoyed these characters, these previous-model women who appear to have it all, and of course, do not. I enjoyed the way their relationships evolve, the underlying theme of friendship, trust, and forgiveness. And that narrator? Loved her!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an audiobook copy of this highly-recommended story.

Charlotte’s ten-year relationship with partner Zack is over. Desperate to be a mother, Charlotte is devastated that all of their efforts to have a child were for naught. After many tries and fails, Zack tells Charlotte that they will never be parents. He had a vasectomy. Shocked, betrayed and unforgiving, Charlotte ends their relationship.

One night while away on a trip, completely out of character for her, Charlotte has a one-night stand with a man named Justin. This would have long-range consequences for Charlotte, although she had no way of knowing at the time. Charlotte is now pregnant, and she soon shockingly discovers who it was that she slept with. This truly places Charlotte in a dilemma, thus the apropos title of this effective read.

In fact, the father of her baby is only one of several dilemmas Charlotte will be facing. With her son being born with a rare disease, quite naturally, Charlotte will make the best decisions she can for her child, even if it means revealing the truth of that single night, something that could cost her dear friendships.

One thing is for certain in this stellar read by Julia Roberts. Secrets find their way to the surface, especially when critical decisions could save a precious life. This story definitely has moral consequences facing the characters, but also has a very strong emotional edge that begs this story to work out for all involved, especially the innocent child in all of this.

Julia Roberts is a brilliant author who has presented readers with yet another evocative story, one that pulled me in right from the start. I loved the various dilemmas facing Charlotte and other characters in this book, and I stayed invested because I just had to see how everything would work out. Needless to say, I was not disappointed.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Charlotte and Zac have been together for 10 years and have been trying to have a baby for the last no avail. After they go out to celebrate their 10 year anniversary, charlotte takes another test hoping will be the month that it finally happen. Unfortunately, it is negative, and she completely comes unde can't understand why it isn't happening until Zac comes clean and tells her that he had a vasectomy divorce and never told her, which absolutely devastates her, so she ends their relationship.
Charlotte starts a new life on her own and is able to hang out with her old friends from her modeling again now that she's single. While she's single she has a one night stand that ends up having some ve dramatic consequences for not only her but for those in her life as well
This was complex story with well developed characters. I'm glad I went in blind as I think it aided in my enjoyment of the story.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for accepting my request to audibly read and review The Dilemma.

Author: Julia Roberts
Published: 10/26/22
Narrator:
Genre: General Fiction (Adult) -- Romance -- Women's Fiction

The line was cast, I was hooked until the story sank at roughly 75%.

I read (my usual) minimally the blurb. From page one I was taken. The narrator has a soft and compassionate voice truly working with this story. Basically, the book tackles the life of a woman in a long-term relationship wanting a baby. She believes her partner is hoping for a pregnancy as well. Turns out, he has two children from another relationship and does not want anymore. There is a breakup, a one night stand and the dilemma begins.

The author brings up a lot of points while minimally touching on issues. Is it okay to be a single parent? Do you need an extended family to be a parent? Is there a girl code? I liked how Roberts was not preachy in her writing. Every person chooses their path and must live with the choices they make. But, what if ... What if .... I'm not spoiling, however, the author is losing me.

There was one encounter, two men, and the track she wrote I wasn't buying. The topic was too heavy to have a Hallmark ending. In addition, Roberts started with profanity near the end. It was absolutely not necessary.

I'm giving this 3 stars. If the ending had been realistic I would have given 4. Furthermore, a realistic ending and no profanity would have garnered 5 stars the beginning writing is beautiful.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'The Dilemma' by Julia Roberts.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Julia Roberts, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 26th October 2022.

This is the second book I have read by this author. I have also read 'The Woman On The Beach' which I would highly recommend.

I was originally drawn to this book by its beautiful cover and intriguing sounding synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that 'Fans of Liane Moriarty, Amanda Prowse and Susan Lewis will love The Dilemma'. I am a huge fan of Susan Lewis so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of Julia and if this book is half as good as 'The Woman On The Beach' it is guaranteed to be a page turner. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of 42 chapters set over two parts. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, UK 🇬🇧. The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture.

This book is written in a mix of third and first person perspective and the protagonist is Charlotte and Tiff. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them. .

This book is beautifully written with vivid descriptions that really put you in the storyline and feeling the pain and joy of the characters. The cover and synopsis suit the storyline perfectly.

Grab the tissues ready before you pick this book up as yet again Julia has me in tears which is not an easy feat!! Congratulations Julia on making a tough skinned grown woman cry!!

The storyline is about the friendship of three friends and how the actions of one can change the dynamics of each other and their families. It is filled with friendship, love, tragedy, tears, secrets, loss and more, everything you could want in an unputdownable family drama. It was very fast paced and it kept me constantly turning the page until I finished with it in one sitting. This is a book that you can read curled up in front of a fire or laying on a sunny beach. I felt completely absorbed in the storyline and absolutely loved it. It is a story about forgiveness. It shows the strengths involved in keeping friendships, marriages, partnerships and helping an innocent child. My heart was in my throat on so many occasions and I found so many scenes very touching. I think it is absolutely beautiful that Julia has based this story on a friends son who suffered with Meconium Aspiration Syndrome. Not only is it a beautiful thing to do but by writing this book Julia also raises awareness of.Meconium Aspiration Syndrome which is something I have never heard of. Congratulations on raising awareness but also on doing plenty of research which shines through!! There's not much worse in a book than the author not researching the subject they discuss and ending up with a book littered with errors. Not only does Julia discuss Meconium Aspiration Syndrome but she also weaves it into an absolutely stunning storyline that brings up marriage vows, friendships, courage, forgiveness and so so much more. This book is absolutely filled with thought provoking dilemmas that had me wondering what I would do in each of the characters situations and it is a book that will stay with me for a long time. I would absolutely love to see this turned into a movie which I will definitely be the first in the line to watch!!

Congratulations Julia on writing a gorgeous story while raising awareness of Meconium Aspiration Syndrome. I always think that any book, whether fiction or non fiction, that raises awareness of any illness, disease or subjects such as domestic violence deserve an award as it could save at least one life by making people aware of these topics.

This is only the fourth book that I have listened 100% on Audiobook. If I listen to a book on audiobook I usually also read the physical book between but for the second time I listened to the whole book and I was impressed! I must say a HUGE congratulations to the narrator Daphne Kouma who did a great job bringing this story to life. I would listen to it in the car and while walking at any opportunity and Daphne did a fantastic job on both male and female characters voices!!! I'm not only looking forward to reading more books by Julia but also to listening to more books narrated by Daphne!

The characters were realistic and strong and I loved meeting them all. The friendship between Charlotte, Tiff and Amelia is beautiful and I loved reading the dynamic between them before the "dilemmas" and it was intriguing to watch how relationships grew and changed after the "dilemmas". My heart went out to each of them for different reasons. Charlotte seemed to be going through hell anyway and things just continued to get worse through the book with one Dilemma after another. I personally don't think she did anything wrong apart from maybe leaving things a bit too late to tell a certain person about something. However, I can see where she was coming from as she was just trying to protect them. My heart also went out to Tiff up until a certain point and then all I can say is pot, kettle. Amelia seems to be stuck in the middle and is completely innocent. It seems to be the two main males Zac and JJ that are far from innocent and are to blame for many of the "dilemmas". Again, the problem I'm having is saying too much without spoiling it for future readers so I won't go into their characters any more than that. It would be interesting to know how others feel after reading this book. Regardless of whether you love them or hate them each of the characters play their parts perfectly to make an absolutely addictive page turner!!

Congratulations Julia on yet anothet absolutely beautiful, emotional and thought provoking unputdownable page turner. I cannot wait to see what you come up with next!!

Overall an emotionally charged, gorgeous unputdownable page turner that will have you absolutely addicted.

Genres covered in this book include Women's Literary Fiction, Romance Literary Fiction, Literary Fiction, amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Liane Moriarty, Amanda Prowse, Susan Lewis and anyone else looking for a beautiful family drama.

292 pages/ 8 hours 14 minutes

This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle, £16.99 on audiobook and £7.99 in paperback via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 5/5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

I enjoyed The Dilemma, but have been puzzling in my head for 2 days how to write this review. First, it's a solid book with an interesting premise and a couple twists. It kept my attention and I listened to this over the course of an evening and a morning. So, great job author for writing characters that were able to move the plot along.

My issue with how to write this review was solved for me when revisiting the Netgalley site to look at the book listing. I am one of those people who see a cover and/or a title and base my decision to read on those alone. I did not read the publishers blurb prior to requesting this novel and I went in completely cold. That said, my dilemma (pun intended) was thinking that if I said too much in this review, it would be spoilers and ruin it for you. I am glad I did not read anything from the publisher prior to reading the book, and I would encourage a slightly modified version for the final release - too much is told to the reader. We know Charlotte was craving a baby. We know she ultimately becomes pregnant. And we know if the father's identity is revealed, a friendship between Charlotte and gal-pal Tiff will be impacted and likely destroyed. It's too much. Let the reader go in not knowing that surprise as I did. I was so excited when pages before what I thought was the "big twist", I guessed it.

I also guessed the second twist, a serious baby illness and that was also given away in the publishers verbiage.

As for the audio portion of the review, I was not a huge fan of this narrator. Her voice is lovely but there were three main female characters and I swear they all sounded identical. There seemed little attempt to voice them with unique characteristics and new chapters started with the name of the female who would be featured. If you missed that name announced at the start, you had to really pay attention to figure out which character was now the lead.

Happy to recommend this and would definitely read more by author Julia Roberts.

Thank you to Negalley and Bookouture for allowing me to listen in advance of the October 26, 2022 release date.

In a Moment of Weakness

Three friends, Charlotte, Amanda and Tiff have been friends for a very long time. They are best friends and have each other's backs. A Moment of weakness can change all of that as one of them commits an act that has life changing consequences for both herself and one of her friends.

The story has a lot of twists and a lot of reasons and soul searching by all the characters. I enjoyed the story and all of its twists.

I was glad to see that even when the friend found out what had taken place she was able to forgive her and to still be friends. They all learned a lesson that no one is perfect, everyone makes mistakes and sometimes you have to be big enough to forgive.

I listened to the Audio book, I liked the story, the narrator could have done a better job in differentiating between the characters. The voices were not so much different and it was sometimes hard to know which character you were listening to . The narrator had a pleasant voice but had a hard time separating the different characters.

I enjoyed this story and I would recommend it.

Thanks to Julia Roberts for writing the story, to the narrator for telling the story, to Bookouture audio for publishing it, and to NetGalley for allowing me to listen to the audio book and write a review.

Charlotte didn’t plan to fall pregnant, but when she finds out,she decides to go through it as a single parents since she found out that her Ex betrayed her in not the usual way one might think.

She doesn't know the man she spent one night away on a holiday with and intends to keep it this way. Until she finds out that he is closer than she would have thought. Still all would be okay if it weren't for her baby being born with a rare illness, desperately needing a transplant.

If you thought the Dilemma was about keeping her affair a secret this is where it seriously starts.

I particularly enjoyed the narration of this story although I couldn't connect that much with Charlotte then I wanted to.

Thanks #NetGalley #Bookouture Audio for a listening version

I must start off my saying that I am not usually an emotional person. But, this book caught me and pulled on my heart strings on more than one occasion.

The Dilemma follows Charlotte, desperate to be a mother and is always disappointed and a little broken by the negative pregnancy test results. But not as much as she was when she found out why it had not happened to her.

When she finally falls pregnant, it was not something she had ever expected which considering it was all she had thought about for years, the irony was not lost on her.

The Dilemma is a book that is written amongst many dilemmas along the way, but the shocking twist makes it known exactly which dilemma instantly is the one that counts.

This book was so incredibly well written, with such amazing, authentic characters that made me feel connected to them on a deep level. I found myself catching my breath, and with tears in my eyes numerous times throughout the book, right up until the very end.

Usually, happy endings are not my thing. But, all I wanted since first meeting Charlotte in this book was everything she had hoped for in her life.

This was an incredible, heartbreaking page turner.

This is my second book by this author. The book description led me to believe I would be reading a suspense but it turned out to be a family drama, which I enjoyed. It was a relatively short story but effective. Although predictable, the story was spoiled while reading reviews. The ending felt a bit rushed.

I would not hesitate to go back to Julie Roberts for a fast and easy story with likeable characters.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me a complimentary e-arc in exchange for my honest review.

People lie. That’s just the way it is and they do it for different reasons. Sometimes it are white lies like telling your children Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny are real. Sometimes it’s because you want to prank someone, but sometimes it’s because they have done something they are ashamed of and they know that telling the truth equals hurting a loved one.

Why, if they are so embarrassed, did they act the way they did? That’s a one million dollar question. It can be it was an accident happening, but from time to time they know exactly what they are doing. And they just cannot control themselves. Repentance comes after sin.

Some people are man (or woman) enough to fess up and face the music. Others want to forget what went on and hope and pray their secret will be safe forever and a day.

Some use the lame excuse saying they drank too much and did not realise what they were doing. Sorry, but you are an adult and you should know better. If you cannot hold your liquor, drink water or stop before the alcohol takes over.

Think about the lives you turn upside down with your selfish behaviour!

This is such a good book, but it has cost me a fortune in tissues!! Maybe I should consider buying shares in Kleenex 😉. I love these stories, but I cannot help it. I always get very emotional.

That’s, of course, the sign the author did a great job. Moving people with their words is the name of the game. I guess reading reviews where the readers admit the book had this effect on them, must be very pleasing.

After having writing such an amazing book, the praise is well deserved. I will translate my praise in a number of stars. 5 stars to be precise. 😊

Thank you

The Dilemma by Julia Roberts
Earc and Audio:NetGalley
Publisher:Bookouture
Publication Date:26th October 2022
Genre: General Fiction /Women's Fiction

This is an emotional book, especially for women. What a bastard the Mr is. I hate him from the start Zač not a man but a git.
Charlotte, Annabelle and Tiffy.
Charlotte I feel for her after the relationship breakdown with Zač.

Tiff is a mam and has everything that Charlotte needs to want children.
Annabelle is Charlotte's best friend and knows her very well.

a family drama that looks at family dynamics, relationships and friendships this book achieves it all.

After a one-night stand, Charlotte finds herself pregnant the one thing she wanted for such a long time. Showing not all motherhood goes straightly as her child is diagnosed with a rare illness that would need a transplant, preferably from either of the parents. As the test results deem her an incompatible match, it leaves her with the only other option is to contact the child’s father. This is heartwrenching to read /listen to. Shocks and turns on this book are in the books.

The narrator does. great job on this book. I felt for Charlotte at times.

I enjoyed this women's fiction book, which is about a woman called Charlotte who is on a quest to have a baby. At first, she is trying to have a baby with her boyfriend of ten years, but they split up, and she meets another man, who she finally has a baby with. But all is not what it seems, as she soon gets a big shock when she finds out exactly who this man is. Later in the book, once her baby is born, she has to make some difficult decisions regarding his health, and her friendships.

I found this story very interesting, although there were a few times when I thought that some of the situations seemed a bit unbelievable. However, it was still a good book, and I really enjoyed listening to it. The audiobook narrator was great, and she did a good job. Highly recommended!

Many thanks to the author, narrator, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

I want to thank Net Galley for this advanced copy listen. I was not influenced or reimburst for this honest review.

The start of this book was quite slow, having to read through the traumatizing experience Charlotte feels not being able to become a mother. She discovers the why behind her difficulty (no spoiler here!) and treats herself to a girls vacation with her friend, Annabelle.
On vacation she has a one night stand with the handsome "Justin" who joins her for dinner. Well, she ends up pregnant, she is trying to sort out how to contact "Justin" but it just so happens that "Justin" is someone in her circle of friends.
Shocked, hurt and unsure what to do next, Charlotte has the baby, and next thing you know, the baby has a serious kidney condition that will require a kidney donation--thus Charlotte needs to confront the biological father and his family.....

So even in my description you can see how there is a lot of build up to the climax of the novel. I think that is why I dropped it a star for the drawn outness of the situation and the "irrationality" of the main characters behavior. All of her "secrets" she tried to keep from being revealed were rather selfish , like not telling the wife of Justin he was sleeping around on work vacations? Really? Charlotte's over obsession with becomin g a mother causing her to act irrationally, and her boyfriend who ultimately lied to her for ten years, suddenly is all forgiven?
I think this book would have worked better if the baby required a more immediate type of donation (like bone marrow) because from what I know, an adult's kidneys are not going to be able to be transplanted into a baby.....

It was a decent read. The ending was a little too "pretty" if you ask me.
I will read more by this author for sure. I can see she has a great way of creating stories and is good with words. I think this one was just a little off.

THE DILEMMA was an excellent work of women’s fiction. Charlotte has been struggling for years with infertility and discovers that her husband Zack has lied to her. Rather than trying alongside her to get pregnant, he had a vasectomy years ago. In an impulsive moment after they split, she has a one night stand with a stranger while on vacation—Justin, who turns out to be married. Things only get worse when Justin turns out to be JJ, the husband of her best friend Tiff. But when her son is born with serious medical conditions, Charlotte is faced with the difficult decision of destroying her friendship and damaging her friend’s marriage in order to get her son the medical help her needs. This book was really well written and had lots of emotional twists. The friend group was pulled in both directions, understandably, and I especially liked how selfless the family that had been cheated on (Tiff and her children) proved to be despite everything. There were some surprise twists and this was an interesting read from start to finish. Will definitely be checking out more of this author’s books. 5/5 stars.

Disclaimer: I received a complimentary ARC copy of this book from Bookouture and NetGalley for review purposes.

I am sorry to say I really hated this book. The characters were so bland and colourless, with no depth to them at all. The storyline is ridiculous in places. The entire story is centred around Charlotte not knowing what JJ looks like! Utterly unbelievable in these days of internet and social media. Her friend has been married for years and yet she hasn't met her husband! Even if we accept they haven't met in over 10 years, we then have to believe she's never even seen a photograph of her best friend's husband! I also had problems with the medical content, as this is my own profession and from the GP at the beginning of the pregnancy, the medical side of the story just didn't make sense. I'm sorry to say I wouldn't want to read anything else by this author and nor would I recommend to friends. I really struggled to get on with this review because so many others have been much more positive but ultimately nothing in this book was believable and there were no unexpected twists or drama. My sincere thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy in exchange for an honest unbiased review.

Charlotte has just come out of a long term relationship. Her partner had kept a terrible secret from her. To cheer herself up she goes on an exotic holiday with her friend Annabelle. On her last night she has a one night stand with a charismatic stranger. Justin..
On returning from her holiday she discovers she is pregnant. But worst of all. Following a party for a good friend from her modelling years. She discovers that Justin is Tiffs husband JJ.
After the birth of her child she needs to contact Justin. But telling him could destroy families and relationships. But a life is on the line.
A fantastic read from Julia Roberts.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to see an advance copy.
