Monster Between the Sheets

Dragon of My Dreams

Diego

Being a dragon in a town filled with monsters isn’t so bad. A bunch of scales and wings isn’t the worst affliction to hit this town’s residents. However, I don’t like being alone or having people run away when they see me. And with more humans moving to town, that happens more and more. Most of the time, I keep to myself or with a select group of good friends who are also monsters. I sell my jewelry and rent space in my art gallery. It’s a dreary but acceptable way to live.
The moment Scarlett walks into my jewelry shop, she changes everything. Becomes my everything. I can tell that she’s hiding something, and I’m almost certain someone in her past hurt her. As a man and a dragon, that’s not something I can live with. Now that she’s entered my dragon’s lair, I’ll do anything to protect her.

Scarlett

I stumbled upon Screamer Woods by accident. The unique residents make it the perfect place to hide out from my ex. He may find me anyway—he has before—but this place is so far off the beaten path, it may take a while. In the meantime, I can sell some artwork and refill my coffers before I have to run again.

Seeing a vampire or a fairy doesn’t scare me. I know what a real monster is and does. Meeting Diego is an unexpected bonus. Too bad I’ll have to bolt soon. I could get used to the way Diego looks at me. The way he makes me feel. If only the monster in my past would stay away and let me live happily ever after with the dragon of my dreams

**2.4/5 stars**

This series has the same premise for every novella. After a dreadful Halloween night, the people who drank a special punch started morphing into monsters and they now all live in a little town called Screaming Woods.

Scarlett has been on the run for about a year, ending up in Screaming Woods, a little town where she can hide from her abusive ex. There, she meets Diego a man who became a dragon after drinking the punch. He owns a jewelry store, as well as an art gallery. Seeing Scarlett is desperate to find somewhere to live, he offers her the studio above the gallery, where she'll be able to store her paintings and even contribute to the art exposition.

Diego was very understanding and protective. It was easy to like him, especially how caring he was towards Scarlett. I just felt that he was a bit plain overall. There was nothing really outstanding about him.

She must be six feet tall. Glorious and curvaceous, she’s magnificent.-Diego

As for Scarlett, she is the reason why I rated this novella so low. She kept bringing up her ex, talked about him, thought about him, noted the differences between him and Diego and it was too much for me. I understand that she had to deal with her trauma and fears but it played such a big part in the story that I failed to see the romance between her and Diego. Also, there were many incoherences that I noted; this girl fears her ex and has nightmares about him, doesn't feel safe anywhere she goes, but she sleeps naked? It's such a small detail but for her to let herself be vulnerable didn't make sense at all. Also, she was so confused about what she wanted, kept changing her mind and assumed things...it was redundant.

Just because he called me love doesn’t mean anything. It might just have been to rile Shawn up. He may call all women love, like some people say hun. I need to accept that he wanted to make sure a woman was safe, and I’m not special. It’s his nature to protect.-Scarlett 🙄

I appreciated that the pacing was slower when it came to the getting intimate. The initial attraction between them didn't lead them to just instantly hit it off. They got to know each other a little bit prior. But as mentioned above, the heroine's problems, her trauma and her constantly bringing up her ex all staled the romance to a point I didn't really enjoyed what I read. I wish that Scarlett had found peace in Screaming Woods, beside Diego, making her forget about her ex, building up her confidence and strength. Anyway, I liked the epilogue, so there's that.

Would I recommend this novella? This novella felt much heavier than the other ones in this series. I would've preferred it to be more centered around Diego and Scarlett, rather than her and her doubts, fears, and all that. It didn't look like a love story to me.

**Note that I do not rate novellas and full-length books by the same standards**

I didn't like this one. I'm not sure if it's the writing style or if I've ready too many isekai villainess stories, but Scarlett felt fake. It felt like I was reading into a dragon/thief story. The helpless innocence came across as manipulative to me and then there was the bit where she thinks Diego has done nothing to show her, he wants her to stay. Diego was okay, I preferred the vampire. Deals with an abusive ex.

Pretty typical as far as the MBtS books go, but...I just didn't feel any chemistry between the two leads and, in the case of Diego, hardly any character, either.

Unfortunately, while I did get a sense of Scarlett's character, her I can honestly say that I didn't like at all. Apart from being very insecure and just sort of back-and-forth on whether to trust Diego or not, I felt that she was WAYYYY too concerned about her ex from the past to really be believable. I mean, okay, so he's a sheriff and has some authority and whatever, but Diego's a fricking DRAGON, so what've you got to worry about?! And, even if not Diego himself, as she quickly should realize, there are other monster pals out there who could do quite a number on a puny little human, so what the heck was it with her continuing to want to just run away to be safe?!

*sighs* I'm just saying, Scarlett had no plan, too many negative characteristics, and lowkey gave me Delora vibes from A Soul to Heal, which believe you me, NO ONE WANTS!

So...yeah, all in all, just a super MEH on this one. I'll also link Remnant Light's review, as they pretty much say everything that I agree with, so check out their review as well: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

6% in and he checked out her ass, thinks she smells like roses, and she’s “not scared of him bc real men are worse” or something cliche.

14%. She’s known him for half a day and he’s asking her why she ran from her previous town and she’s crying in his arms and it’s all very dramatic and a lot for 17 pages in.

16% and we have the whole hurt you trope.

23% “the idea of a man hitting her or any women’s brings my dragon’s temper to the surface” - okay I was like ick but then he said any woman and it made it better. I hate the “I’m only protective of my mate” trope and love that he thinks about other women in the situation as a whole and not just the one he’s attracted to.

“The fact that they are sleepy and not fully conscious of decisions freezes me in place. There is no doubt I want Scarlett Street. Clearly, she trusts me more than she should. Rather than risk hurting her in any way, I retreat.” 26% - Yaaasss we love a consent king. Is she turning around? Could I possibly add 2/7 to the count for this series? Only time will tell.

Hahahaha, he had to run away in his boxers and fly around half naked to calm himself down. What a cinny roll.

Okay, he’s going to help her get rid of her ex, no strings. He’s like ima make you safe and you can choose your next direction, with or without me. Lil cinny roll okay.

“Dip my tongue into her belly button” 44% um. Now I’m lost. Weirded out.

Okay. We brainwashed the psycho ex with vampire magic and now they are confessing their feelings for each other. 80%

Alright, this story follows Diego and Scarlett. Diego is a dragon that runs an art gallery and a jewelry store. Scarlett is on the run from her psycho sheriff ex who abused and used her for her art. Diego takes her in after seeing her magnificent art and offers her the gallery space to showcase as well as the apartment above while she gets back on her feet. Sparks ensue and with the help of newfound friends she is able to shake her ex and find love and a new life free of control.

Alright, this one actually was good compared to the others. 2 good ones out of 7 so far is meh odds, but I am not stopping!
Onto the next!

This is a good paranormal romance, my favorite of the series so far, mostly because I really liked both Diego and Scarlett. It gets 3.5 stars from me, rounded up to 4 stars.

I did wish the story had been a little longer, to allow more time for character development. I would have liked a little more backstory on both Diego and Scarlett.

I really liked that Diego and Scarlett didn't have as big an age difference as the couples in most of the earlier books. It also helped that Scarlett was 30 -- in my opinion, she was mature enough to decide if she wanted to be in a relationship with an older man.

I adored Diego. He was wonderful to Scarlett, and I loved that he helped her with her terrible ex -- even though he knew she might leave Screaming Woods. He loved her enough to want her to be happy, even if it meant she left him. I also really liked that he got his vampire friend to help with her ex. His talents were perfect for what that awful ex deserved.

Scarlett was likable, and I was proud of her for finding a way to escape her abusive ex. She was still on the run when she met Diego, but she was so brave.

I did think that Diego and Scarlett were more in lust than in love, especially at first. I did believe, though, that they fell in love later.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

The dragon and the artist are up and they have a little sizzle going from the start. That said, seeing as Scarlett's on the run from an abusive ex, she's a little wary of falling into a relationship. So, yeah, there's sizzle, but there's also a little careful holding back.

Let's start at the beginning, shall we? Diego and Scarlett. He's a dragon with an eye for beautiful things. She's an artist who's been living a pretty awful existence over the past year as she attempts to keep one step ahead of her ex. Diego's dragon-ish instincts (among other things) have him more than willing to step up and help any way he can, but there's more going on here than a desire to protect. Diego likes the pretty artist and his beastly side is pretty sure she's the one.

On Scarlett's end, she definitely likes Diego, but she doesn't want to drag him (or the town) into her problems. Having a safe place to stay is incredible, but she knows it can't last given her ex's penchant for showing up when he's least wanted. BUT...Scarlett also trusts Diego when he says he can keep her safe and take care of her problem.

A little danger, a flight through the night sky, a town that pulls together when needed, and two people who make things work. *thumbs up*

This one was just ugh.
My biggest issue with this is Scarlett is on the run and only been away from her abusive ex for less than a year. But then for her to turn around and start something with Diego, even while said abusive ex is on her tail just isn't ideal nor realistic for me.
Because of her past issues with her ex, Scarlett is a very wishy washy character who, in my opinion, doesn't put into consideration how her words and attitudes now can hurt others.
When everything is all safe once again for Scarlett instead of her putting on her big girl panties and telling Diego what she wants she makes a big deal about beating around the bush until he finally puts himself out there and says he doesn't want her to leave. I have no clue why she would think that he didn't want her after they were "together" for the entire month or however long prior to her ex being taken care of.
All in all I didn't care for Scarlett's character in this one. She makes a lot of assumptions about Diego and why he's doing things. She whines about how she doesn't want her ex and that relationship to shape her future, yet she constantly compares Diego to her ex even when he gives no indication that he's anything like that.

Twenty years ago, the town had a Halloween party that changed everyone's life. Some turned into literal monsters, and others were filled with dark magic.
Diego was transformed into a very large dragon. He's been alone since. When Scarlett enters his store, her scent wakes up something in him. But she is running from a dangerous past. Will she be safe in Screaming Woods?

Monsters falling in love with humans is the basis of this series. It appears that most characters will be either v-card holders or have been celibate for several years. So far, it's been meet and fall into bed very soon after. Typical insta-love timeline, but it works well with this series. The kids are starting to be mentioned a bit more. There is a second generation for this universe.

“Dragon of my Dreams” by Andie Fenichel
A Fun Fantasy
When I received the offer of the ARC for this story, all I knew about the story was the title/author. This is what I found out.. this very brief recap of the story.
Screamer Woods a town that is a wee bit out of the ordinary. Diego a human/dragon one of the unhuman-human residents of the town. Scarlett a woman on the run from an abusive past searching for a safe place to rest, at least for a few days.
I do not usually read fantasy stories and very nearly did not read this story. But it is a rather short novella and I read the first chapter and then just kept right on to the very end. It is an easy fun read. I really liked this story as a change of pace, but fantasy reads remain one of my least favorite reads. Happy Reading ! !
NOTE: This review expresses my honest opinion.
I received an ARC of this story from the author via Bookfunnel.

Dragon of My Dreams is quick-read novella that is part of a multi-book series by various authors, set in Screamer Woods, and featuring monsters and things that go bump in the night.

Diego Santos is a dragon who makes beautiful jewelry. He meets artist Scarlett Street and is surprised when his appearance does not faze or frighten her.

"Mr. Santos, there are men in the world who really are monsters, and I know what I'm talking about. So far, you've been a complete gentleman. Do you think I should be afraid of you?"

Diego is intrigued by Scarlett and works to learn more about her and what brought her to Screamer Woods.

I have read a number of books by Andie Fenichel, and she is a talented author. This steamy, insta-lust to insta-love tale is an entertaining afternoon read but is not the best I've read from the author.

A quick supernatural read. Diego always refers to himself as a monster. He is anything but a monster. When Scarlett comes to town, Diego immediately knows that she is the one for him. She is on the run from an abusive ex, so he has to go slow. But whether she stays or goes, he will protect her. He doesn't want her to feel trapped so he will let her go if that is what she wants. Scarlett has her freedom taken from her by her ex and doesn't want that to happen ever again. Her immediate attraction to Diego gives her pause and she isn't sure if he really cares for her or is just feeling protective. Will she stay with him or move on?

Where do you hide from abusive boyfriend? In a town inhabited by monsters. On the run, artist Scarlett hides out in Screamer Woods, where the inhabitants were turned into monsters after a potion turned party goers into monsters.

She meets Diego, an art gallery owner who happens to be a dragon. Diego vows to protect her from her ex, but Scarlett isn’t sure he can, and fears she’ll have to leave.

Dragon of my Dreams is a low-angst, steamy, quick romantic read. Perfect for an afternoon or a plane flight.

Very Romantic!

Diego and Scarlett are another cute couple in the Monster Between the Sheets series. Another novella featuring a Dragon and the woman that he falls in love with. Diego is a Dragon who owns a jewelry shop and an art gallery in the series town of Screaming Woods, Scarlett is an artist who has been running from her abusive psycho ex. This novella is similar to the others in the series, though it didn't have as much smexy times as much as the others it was just as romantic. Cute read! Onto the next!

Dragon of My Dreams - Scarlett & Diego

The Monster Between the Sheets series has produced some really great books & a few duds. Bonus for me is I have found several new authors to add to my list, along with their delicious books.
I really enjoyed Scarlett & Diego's story. He is so honorable, protective & kind, but also super sexy, sweet & very lovable. The way he treats Scarlett is beautiful. However, he treats everyone with kindness. Scarlett is running, very fearful of her ex & Diego is just what she needs in every way. Their story is sweet, steamy & and oh, so good.

Pacing issues and left me feeling a bit meh 😔

Seemed to drag on at the start and by the time you get to the last chapters it is speeding ahead at brake neck speed and seems to skip past parts of the story racing to get to the HEA in the epilogue. The ending was so rushed the 'evil ex' was a waste of time, the whole sting and standoff could (and probably should) have been cut with no real impact on the plot as it was very anti climactic, hmmph no I'm not phrasing this correctly as there was no real sense of peril or a build up to the confrontation.

Diego and Scarlett were such a wonderful pair. I absolutely loved how immediately protective Diego was of Scarlett. He knew right away that she was meant to be his, but he wasn't going to force her to stay with him if she didn't want to stay. He was going to protect her and make sure she was safe no matter what. The chemistry between these two was great, but their relationship was just awesome. I loved this story so much. I received an ARC and I'm voluntarily leaving my honest review.

Dragon to the rescue!

I have a thing for dragons so this book was a no brainer for me.

Diega and Scarlett were both cut from the same fear cloth but for different reasons. Diego because of his poisoned transformation and Scarlett because of her crappy ex's treatment. I love how the build up was just right and he solved her problem just bylistening to her.

A simply interesting read..especially if you love dragons.

Dragon of My Dreams: Diego and Scarlett

Fun and sexy. While Diego is a dragon (not a dragon shifter), the story isn't super monster focused, so anyone reluctant to try more intense monster romance might want to try this story.

I appreciated the very satisfying comeuppance for the bad guy. It wasn't even gory and no one died. I look forward to more stories from Screaming Woods.

good

This was a good addition to the Screaming Woods series. Diego and Scarlett were and interesting couple and I liked the take on him being a dragon. It had a nice a storyline but for some reason I did feel like it was missing some the heat and passion I would expect from a dragon and his mate but overall I did enjoy the book.

Absolutely loved the newest book in the Monster between the Sheets series. Diego was turned into a Dragon when he drank Dr. Karloff's punch. He has been so lonely, when Scarlett comes to Screaming Woods she is hiding something and I love how she sees pass his appearance. These two have the greatest story and y'all are going to fall in love with their perfect ending.

Another great addition

Dragon of My Dreams is another great addition to the Monster Between the Sheets series! It proof that just because it’s a novella, doesn’t mean that it all has to be quick. That you can have a story with a good plot and romance between two characters that have some chemistry.

Meant to be ~

What a fantastic story. I liked how she saw past the ‘monster’ appearance to see the real being that they were. I liked his immediate reaction to her, but was scared he would frighten her because of his appearance. He gave he a safe place to start to heal. Loved the epilogue !!

Just ok

I don't know about this one, parts of the story were really good but it was also a bit corny. I think that the book being so short really didn't help. There was really no time to fully develop the characters that would give you a story that really drew you in.
