This book is a collection of four stories. I quickly fell in love with 조예은’s writing and the book became one of my favourite Korean books I’ve read.
The first story was wild, I don’t think I can think of a different word that’d describe it. I’ve got no idea if it is supposed to make sense or if it’s just a trippy story. If anyone knows.. let me know?
The second one was interesting, but I think I enjoyed it the least out of the four. That being said I still like the way it was written, the writer’s style just feels very smooth.
The third story is an original take on a zombie apocalypse. I found it fun and interesting, my second favourite story.
The last story was just mind blowing. I don’t want to reveal too much but all I can say is WOW. If you’re going to only read one of the stories read this one.
This book includes four short stories written by Yeaeun Cho. Her stories are a little bit on the dark side but once you start reading the book, you cannot put it down. Her stories are so unique and original, and always have surprising endings! I hope her book gets translated in other languages! Best wishes to you, Yeaeun Cho!
Absolutely loved it. A very light, quick read to get over a reading slump or to read on vacation. My favourite was "Overlap Knife, Knife" and it'll probably remain knocking around in my head for some time.
In the author's writing, violence is not an end but a tool, from the anti-logical "The Invitation" to the austere "Knives, Overlapping Knives", it seems to see the novelist's version of Ziolan, from sadness to pessimism, from pessimism to tragedy, the boomerangs are getting sharper with each brush with us, enjoyed it very much, looking forward to the next one.
