My name is Ben, and I died last year.

Almost.

I’d hoped I would wake up from my near-death experience as a medium just in time for high school. Turns out it just wrecked my legs.

No medium talent, either. I’m something else. A summoner.

I know next to nothing about my talent besides it involves portals and pledge bonds. It’s okay, they teach it at school. Sounds perfect, right?

Wrong.

Mateo, the other summoner in my class, hates me.

The class clairvoyant thinks destiny has got it out for me, too. Makes sense. As if I don’t already feel like a square peg, getting around on crutches, my portals break stuff and go to the wrong realm.

It’s a good thing I’ve got help from my family, friends, and a celestial called Arie. It takes constant rehab just to keep my busted body working.

But how do I fix my broken talent?

fantastic book - great read for adults and teenagers and those going through a life change

There are references to characters and events from previous books from Hawthorn and Gallow Hill Academy’s Series so it might be better to read those first.
What I liked most about this story is that it was from a disabled teenager’s point of view which makes a great change and as once a teenager with mobility problems then a disabled adult I could totally relate to his point of view.

This book had such great promise! Mediums, ghosts, school for magic, student heroes, what's not to love?! Apparently the ridiculous and juvenile, one dimensional characters. I was liking Ben, and then I met the other characters and I just couldn't stand them. And then Ben became like them. Aarg! Maybe it gets better, I don't know, I may try again.

Feels like there might be a whole series before this

Story grabs you right away
Feels like a lot is assumed
Maybe a previous series?
Love the Characters right off
Lots going on
Need to see how it sorts itself out

Thank you!

Nice YA paranormal story. I didn’t know there was a trilogy that led into this book, so there was stuff I just didn’t get. I suggest reading them first.
