Rate this book
Losing a spouse is one of the most difficult life changing events in one's life. In her reflective piece, Mary Butler chronicles her experiences, thoughts, and feelings through her first year as a 48 year old widow. Through poems, letters, and journal entries, Mary provides her readers with an honest, frank, and poignant look at the challenges faced by mid-life widows. The title, Learning to Fly Again is shared by a poem written by Mary, evoking injury, but not defeat for those suddenly widowed.

My cousin Mary lost her husband of 26 years to a heart attack in 2007. Her poems and letters are collected here in this book. Her husband, Steve, was a great guy, someone you really enjoyed being around during family get-togethers. He is missed. The book provides a window into the experience of losing a spouse, and the process of coming to terms with a new chapter in life. There is sorrow, humor, and much determination.
