This book is like a fairy tale crossed over with a story that is told through animal characters. I cannot have enough of this, and the reading world definitely needs more of the kind. There is good news though because the book is the first in a series titled "Lion Paws." The book title gives fairy tale vibes, much like Beauty and the Beast or The Frog Prince. Our young lion Adon Ayele is the youngest of four siblings, the others being triplets and older than him by six years. His dream is to be successful as a carpenter. What is a lion without his lioness? And this story has one.

A gentle lioness named Kichoro Tambo, a young widow, along with her son Jabulani Tambo is also a part of this story and an important one at that. The young lion due to various circumstances has had his heart hardened. The reason is known to a select few and involves family. This has resulted in Adon being focused on perfecting his craft and removing all distractions in the form of romance from his life. But how long can he live like that? A young heart is bound to find its way in the end.

Kichoro has struggles of her own. After her husband's death, she has to raise their four-year-old son alone, a task in which she is barely scraping by. The resources are almost diminished. She has come to sell her house, and we all know that is how the two will meet. The struggles for the two don't end there. The family often turns out to be one's biggest foe, and that is what happens to these lions. However, the story is all about how they overcome these challenges along the way and give life a second chance.
