Fey Realm #1

Survival of the Fairest

Rate this book
No magic for two weeks? What’s a fairy to do? Go to Vegas, of course! Princess Talista of the fairy clan Serendipity has been sent, like all young fairies, to a remote forest in humanspace for mandatory survival training. But headstrong Tali’s got different ideas about where to spend two weeks without magic. What better place than Las Vegas to learn to live like humans, a true test of survival? Tali might not blend, but she’d like to be shaken and stirred with stage magician Jake Story. Their attraction is instant and electric…and Tali senses there’s more to Jake’s show than flashy tricks. Jake always knew he was different, even before he developed an unusual flair for hypnotism. He has no trouble mesmerizing the luscious Tali during act three, but the lights that appear around them when they kiss weren’t part of the program. When the authorities from Tali’s homeland track the missing princess to Vegas, Jake and Tali end up on the run. In between magic experiments, evil gnomes and astonishing sex, Tali learns what it really means to be human—by falling in lust, followed closely by love. But Tali’s not human. And Jake doesn’t believe in fairies. The truth will either bind them together—or tear the fairy realm apart.

This isn’t a “fairies with wings” fairy book. There’s magic, gnomes, and Las Vegas! Pick it up and you won’t want to put it down until you’re done.

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, right? Not exactly. Not if fairy crown princess Talista has any say in the matter. She's took off on her own into the heart of Las Vegas, leaving of the safety of the Realm to find as many secrets about humans as she possibly can before her time runs out. The girl's got two weeks before she must return home or she comes down with "separation sickness", and just might not make it back.

Tali's a real "humanophile" and a bit of a rogue. Think Ariel the little mermaid meets Sarah Palin. She tries desperately to blend in, but doggone it, she just can't do it without the help of stage magician / good Samaritan Jake Story. Tali thinks she's it's smooth sailing ahead, but Jake's sexy as all get out and they share an instant spark of attraction--quite the distraction from her original plan.

Adding fuel to their budding romance is a real cat and dog chase when the head honcho of the Realm, Elder Embor, comes searching for her. It's all fun and games for Tali at first, until things take a dangerous turn with other treacherous fairies and gnomes on the loose.

What I liked most about this book are the unique voices Ms. Wallace gives to each character. She's nailed their parts so well, it was like I was right in their heads. I forgot I was reading a book much of the time. There's a real lighthearted feel to the whole story, even when things go from bad to worse. The love scenes are fantastic, especially the last one--wow!

The only things that didn't appeal to me were very minor. One particular plot aspect was quite predictable from the get-go, but it didn't disappoint in the end. Long passages of inner reflections and world building information slowed the pace a few times. And the last scene of the resolution seemed too drawn out, and then the end came too abruptly.

Or maybe it was just so good, I didn't want it to end that soon. Which could have been the case. But the only way you'll know is if you buy the book for yourself. It was a great read for any romance fan!

this book was good.

as a fairy in training, tali was supposed to spend her 2 weeks training in some desserted place but instead, she ventured into vegas, no less! there she met jake, a magician who helped her and their attraction sizzled when jake used hypnotism in her and kissed her in front of his crowd.

only problem is, tali is a princess and soon the primary looks for the princess to return her to the realm when she wanted to spend more time with a human and learn more about blending in vegas. soon, the fairies found out that jake wasn't human after all but a lost one and more so, he got tali pregnant but they can't be together because as a lost one, he can't step into the realm for he would brought destruction if he step one foot in it. but tali was determined to be where her mate is even if it means sacrificing her ties with her twin sister.

everything was in chaos because of a selfish fairy princess. soon, tali realized why there are rules that have to be followed. but she won't regret being with jake. it's a good thing that her twin is willing to support her and they think of a solution for them to be in vegas and also in the realm for every now and then.

a good read for someone who wants to read about a fairy seeking adventure.
