Objects Contain the Infinite
Il s'agit du troisième livre de Claude Royet-Journoud. L'auteur poursuit un même travail, très proche de la peinture moderne et de la poésie moderne américaine. La poésie y est conçue comme un exercice spirituel qui cherche à transformer des sensations corporelles souvent très angoissées en des sortes d'intrigues-limites de plus en plus dépouillées et sereines. Les expériences les plus précises et les plus personnelles, à force de soustraction et à force de condensation, deviennent de minuscules récits presque impersonnels et étonnamment simples. L'auteur extirpe toute image, toute facilité.Le titre reprend un des derniers vers du livre. Pour la première fois (dans la quatrième partie), au cours d'un long texte de prose, Claude Royet-Journoud évoque son propre travail.

His publications in French include, from Gallimard, Le Renversement, La Notion d'Obstacle, Les Objects contiennent l'infini, & Les Natures indivisibles (1972, 1978, 1983, 1997). He was also co-founder & co-editor, along with Anne-Marie Albiach & Michel Couturier, of the journal Siècle à mains. With Emmanuel Hocquard, he has edited two anthologies of American poetry, 21+1: Poètes améicains d'aujourd'hui, & 49+1: nouveaux poètes américains.
