The first two volumes set up a really complex story that was hard to complete in this short third volume. Ending felt rushed, but not necessarily unsatisfying... it ended how it should imho, but I'm sure a lot would disagree.
In the midst of all the comedy and insanity, there are some really broken characters that stand out. This is a novelization of 6 20 minute episodes so the ideas could have been developed into much more. Nevertheless it was a Fully Cooly read :D

Some series are just better as an anime than as a manga series. I wasn't entirely sure what was going on for most of it, but apparently this series is supposed to be a metaphor for pubescent angst so maybe that's the point? Anyway, I would still recommend the anime to anyone who wants to experience this series.

Was hoping it'd have something extra beyond the anime but it essentially lines up 1:1 perfectly

Well, the story in words finally came to a head, and for the most part it was fairly satisfying. Characters like Kitsurabami are actually elaborated on, Naota's arc is wrapped up, Amarao is fun to speculate about, and Atomsk even shows Naota his future. The first half of the book was more comedic and silly, as most things between Naota and Kamon are. However, these events build up to Naota confessing his crush on Haruko, along with complicating his character even further. Naota becomes more vulnerable throughout the series. He cares less about being cool by the end which results in becoming more in touch with his feelings. Interestingly enough, the conflict between Medical Mechanica and the Brotherhood is actually explained. Their cosmic conflict makes Mabase feel seem very small and helpless during the final battle sequence. There are a lot of details that don't make a lot of sense, like Naota's mom being in the space police. Overall though, the light novels filled in some of the anime's cracks and made certain things make more sense. Plus its just as surreal and fun to read as the anime is. One of my favorites for lots of reasons.
