It’s October in Bobwhite Mountain, TN. The temperatures are getting colder at night and the entire town is decorated for the Halloween season. It’s a fun time of the year for all of the citizens of this quaint mountain town.
Landry Burke and her friends are surprised when Landry’s Mom, Claire, invites them all on a weekend camping trip. Eventually, they all agree to go but the mishaps that occur have them all thinking they should have stayed home.
Of course, everyone in town is planning their Halloween costume parties and Mayor Cartwright and his wife, Barb, are trying to get the jump on the others by having theirs earlier and on a weekday instead of the usual weekend celebrations. Everyone is having a great time at the party until a body is found and the main suspect is Landry’s best friend who just moved to town.
Sheriff Wyatt Collins, Landry and Adam are doing everything they can to find the real killer before an innocent woman is put in prison. Come join them, as well as Ms. Millie and her shenanigans, as they muddle through false leads and suspicions to solve the case. Murder, Mystery and Mayhem in a town you’ll fall in love with.
Witching for a Murder is the best of a delightful Christian cozy mystery series. The warmth and kindness of the group of friends and the descriptions of their interaction are enough to keep me coming back even before the challenging mystery. I enjoyed the visit from an unexpected guest and the changes in her demeanor. I did not figure out the murder in advance. While the book is definitely Christian base, it is not heavy handed; their faith is shown as a natural part of their everyday lives. The book has nothing to do with witches or witchcraft. It takes place around Halloween.
"Witching For Murder" is the 3rd book in the Bobwhite Mountain Mystery series by Jamie Rutland Gillespie.
It's October in Bobwhite Mountain and everyone is getting ready for Halloween. Landry and her friends are surprised when her mother Claire invites them all on a weekend camping trip but they eventually all agree. The trip is anything but uneventful as several mishaps occur. A few days after their return, the Mayor hosts his Halloween costume party. The party is going fairly well - until a dead body is found and the evidence points to Landry's best friend who just moved to town. Sheriff Wyatt Collins along with Landry and Adam do everything they can to clear her name before she ends up serving time for a crime she didn't commit!
My thoughts: Like the first two books, there are plenty of laughs in this book. Ms. Millie is up to her usual antics - and more! The camping trip had me guessing who would be next in line to sustain an injury! Remind me never to go camping with this bunch! I was delighted to read that Annie had moved to town. (I assumed she would, as she had fit in so well during the second book.)
The costumes for the Halloween party were well suited for each character. The ID of the body wasn't a huge surprise but I also hadn't figured out who the killer was (kicking myself for not getting that one sooner!) However, I did deduce what Claire was hiding long before she fessed up.
As always the characters are fun, the antics make me laugh and the food makes me hungry! Looking forward to seeing what Jamie Rutland Gillespie comes up with for the next book in this charming series!
I enjoyed this book. I really like the characters, especially Miss Millie. We all need one of her in our lives. While this is a cozy mystery it is very much character driven. We really get to know the characters, which is something I love. I feel that the more I know the characters the more I feel as if I'm in the story with them. I get totally transported. It does, though, take a bit to get to the mystery. Don't worry. The mystery was a puzzling one. I didn't guess it at all. There is a secondary mystery that I found very interesting. I thought it is a timely one and is something I have heard in real life. I'm very much invested in where this storyline goes. Be on the look out for it. That one isn't easily solved and appears to continue into another book. One I'm already looking forward to reading. A note: this book has characters that are Christian. Faith does play a part in the story. I have seen a number of readers who seek this out so I wanted to mention it.
This is a wonderful book and the series is even better. Landry and the gang are convinced that they need to go on a camping trip and little do they know that what can go wrong does. Carrie, Landry's mom has a secret and Landry knows but she tries her best to get it out of her mom. Annie, her best friend sold her bakery and went to live with Landry, then gets accused of murder. Boy do they have a lot unraveling to do. I highly recommend getting this book and the series, I hope you will love it just as much as I do. The characters are wholesome and the plot is easy to follow. My favorite characters are Landry and Ms. Millie, she is a hoot. Thank you.
What a fun read Landry lives in Bobwhite Mountain and owns a bookstore and Hotel that she inherited from her Aunt. Her friend Annie has moved back and is staying with her and her Mom while she gets her business up and running. A body is found and Annie is thrown in jail since she knew the person who was killed. Landry does some investigating along with the police there were twists and turns and a narrow escape. I laughed a lot at some things that happened it was a thoroughly interesting story.
I highly recommend Witching for A Murder. Once again Landry finds herself right in the middle of a Murder investigation. But this time her best friend is the one being accused. When all the evidence points to Annie, and the fact that she had a motive , can Landry find the clues it will take to prove her best friend innocence? And Landry’s mother shows up with no advanced notice, and has her own secret. Are the two connected or are there two different mysteries to be solved? You will love this cozy mystery and it will have you laughing and guessing who did it!
Another fantastic book in the series! I really enjoyed revisiting Bobwhite Mountain in October. It was fun reading about Landry and her friends and all the hijinks they get into throughout the book. I also enjoyed reading about the Halloween activities and the costume party. The mystery was interesting, and it was not easy to guess the killer. The author also included some tasty recipes at the end.
So fun, I love this series ,Love the characters especially Millie, she always makes me laugh.Laundry has her mom and best friend in town, they should be having a great time visiting, but with a camping mishap and her best friend being framed for murder, laundry has to spend her Halloween fun finding the real culprit. Each book in this series has a great storyline, look forward to the next one.
Landry and her crew of friends land themselves in the middle of another Murder investigation…this time with her best friend Annie as the prime suspect. With fabulous characters and a great setting not to mention laugh out loud fun, Can Landry get to the bottom of things and clear her friends name? Looking forward to the next installment in this series! Highly recommended
For a third time I was immersed in the world of Landry Burke and Ms. Millie. As Halloween approached, I smelled the pumpkin candle and tasted the ghost cookies. This author never stops making me feel at home in Bobwhite Mountain. I did NOT guess the motive, or the murderer and had a wonderful stay in town! Please go visit soon!
Every day life in a small town. That's how this book is written. Well except for a murder. You will be kept guessing until the end. Each suspect has a reason, but all the leads just don't pan out. You have to read book three and it will keep you guessing all the way!!!
I love all the characters!! I am falling more and more in love with them! This is a great series!! This is a must read!! You will not be disappointed!! I also can not wait to try the recipes!!! Can’t wait for the next one!!
Jamie Rutland Gillespie, has created a wonderful series. I really enjoy these cozy, clean mysteries. This series has quite the bunch of characters and you will love everyone of them. Anxiouxly awaiting book four.
Never expected the ending I just loved this book and could not put it down II hope this series will go on I highly recommend this book to everyone and the rest of the series Dorothy Schaefer
I love the cast of characters in this series. Miss Millie is an absolute hoot. In an interesting twist, that I never expected, the killer was a local favorite person. Starting the next one now.
Witching for Murder was a great cozy mystery! I love the relationships between all the characters. This has been a fun series to read and can't wait for the next book to come out!
I really enjoyed this story. And I want to learn more about Gunther Smith, the man with Ralph the Raven, who lives in the artist camp on the other side of the mountain and who sculpted a raven for Landry to display in her bookstore. Hopefully, he will be reintroduced in the future. I really like how all the main characters work well together. Impromptu camping trip. Halloween fun from a costume party to popcorn witch hand treats for the kiddie bookstore event, to the pumpkin scented candle burning. Each character had side stories that were very interesting, but didn’t distract from trying to find the murderer. I liked that Landry’s bestie Annie is in town for good and relocating her bakery down the street from Landry’s bookstore. There’s a future wedding for Lisa and Jared. Landry and Adam’s romance is strong. Ms. Millie is dramatic, but also concerned about what’s happening. Wyatt the sheriff is doing what’s right, while trying to help Annie from getting out of jail and being accused of Blaine’s death.
A book challenge I take part in gave readers the option to read a book set at Halloween as an option for October. My choice, Witching for a Murder, turned out to be a wonderful choice.
I had no problems getting into this story even though I have not read the earlier books in this series. The author adequately introduces the “who’s who” as the story moves along, making it easy for a new reader to know the characters. Although we are well into the story before the murder takes place, there is plenty of activity to keep the reader’s interest. Of course, we are led down many dead-end roads before we learn who the killer is. And, yes, I was taken by surprise when discovering who is the guilty party.
This cozy mystery is easy and fun to read. There is a bit of romance, fun times with friends, personal secrets unveiled, and the mystery to keep the reader entertained and turning pages.
As for this being the first book I have read in the series, I can tell you that it will not be the last.
Again I thoroughly enjoyed this book as I have the other 2 in this series. The characters have initiated a fiction friendship. The settings, plot and details are comfortably described. I forgot some of my exposure to daily strife and stress. It's a fun, charming ,clean read. I could do with a little less emphasis on prayer, too liberally sprinkled. There's no recipes included???? Some of the food mentioned had me wanting to know more
Landry Burke is one lucky girl. She is at a time in her life when everything is going well. Why is it then things kind of start sliding just a little sideways? Her Mom is in town for a visit, but she seems to be keeping a secret. What could it be, and how scared should Landry be? On the other hand, her best friend Annie just moved to town, and that is awesome until Annie is arrested for murder. Life is never dull in Bobwhite Mountain!
Landry and her friends attend a Halloween party after her friend Annie moves to town. At the party everyone wears costumes and she and Annie dress in the same witches costume. Blaine and old friend of Annie's is poisoned and Annie is arrested. Meanwhile her mother Claire shares some bad news. Landry goes to work with Adam and Wyatt to solve the mysteries. A clean cozy that the reader will enjoy.
The 3rd book in the Bobwhite Mountain Series. The story continues with Landry Burke and her friends. Another murder but this time Landry's best friend Annie moves to town and is arrested for the murder of her ex boyfriend. The humor continues with the antics of Ms. Millie.
Characters are created with such detail you feel like you know them personally and that they are close friends. Easy to follow ~ you can continue reading two days after you last read the book & knowcexactlybwhat is going on. You will laugh hysterically one minute then cry the next ~ all on the same page.
Another wonderful book in this awesome series by author Jamie Rutland Gillespie. I love all the wonderful characters. I highly recommend reading this wonderful series of books...
Book 3 took me awhile to read. I wasn't into it and some parts didn't make sense to me. I kept at it though! And it all came together. Good story. I enjoy the friendship between everyone. I look forward to know more about Landry mother, Claire, situation.
