About the author

Martin Woodside is a writer, educator, and founding member of Calypso Editions. He earned his MFA and a MeTara certificate in Children’s Literature from San Diego State University and a Ph.D. in Childhood Studies from Rutgers-Camden in 2015. His current book, Frontiers of Boyhood: Imagining America Past and Future (Oklahoma University Press), explores the cultural interplay of boyhood and frontier mythology in nineteenth-century America. Woodside has published five children’s books, collections of poetry, and translations of Romanian poetry. He has taught for nearly two decades and serves as an Assistant Principal in the School District of Philadelphia.

First of all, i'd like to say that it's my first experience reading english book. And whoa, because i'm not used to read in english, it was like 'trouble' for me to read english book. But honestly i'm not dissapointed at all!

I start to read in english because yeah, can i say that it's interesting to read in english?

At first 10 pages, i still don't know what the author wants to tell me. But after 30 or 50 pages, i started to know the story itself. And of course, because i'm a beginner, everytime i found words that i don't understand, i searched it on my dictionary and wrote it on my notebook xD.

For the story itself, this book sure can entertain readers from kids till adult readers. But in my opinion, this book has a lot of difficult words for a beginner like me. Because now i'm reading contemporary YA novel, for you--who start reading english books--i prefer you start with YA novel because it has easier words and the words/vocabulary used are daily conversation.

This book has a good moral value to everyone. Be a loyal friends, whoever your friends are, they are still your friends ;)

This book was absolutely brilliantly written and I enjoyed most of it. I felt that I was actually transported into each part of the book and the sensory details were really good and the story line was interesting to read. It would be 5stars BUT towards the end it got less and less intriguing and more predictable. 4.5 stars is an honest opinion 🏆🏆🏆🏆If you are prepared to smile, laugh and imagine you are among these characters than this book is for you definitely! 🙂

Mama says a great book to expose a young reader to new vocabulary. The woods are a bit haunting and Toads delirium for driving cars a tad strange, but Moles desire to see the world was a nice point of conversation while reading.

Lovely abridged version of the classic story. I just finished reading the ebook to my 8 month old son and he seemed to appreciate it.

I tried to read this a bedtime story but my kids (6 and 9) couldn’t get into it at all. They liked the idea of it, and I had fond memories of being read this as a child, but it wasn’t the book for us.
My 9 year old made it through the first three chapters and then didn’t want to listen anymore. I made it halfway before my 6 year old asked why we couldn’t read something more interesting... even though it’s supposed to be a modern retelling, I still reworded it a lot when I read it out loud.

Having never read or watched The Wind in the Willows before, I picked this book up in my 40th year and decided to read it. I had visions of lovely days on the river, animals talking gaily to each other, maybe little adventures. I certainly wasn't prepared for crime, hate, jail-breaking and zero apologies for misdoings! Quite boring at times, with over-explaining. However, in a strange way, I'm glad I read it to satisfy my curiosity.

It was actually a 3.5/5⭐ read. It was fast paced in the start but soon with every chapter it became better and better. The toad was all fun to read , ratty was very cute and gave some very important life lessons since the very first chapter . Mole was always ready for an adventure......and Mr. Badger was really adorable . This book consisted of events ready to entertain the readers of all ages .

I am re-reading this book and it is delightful! I love the vocabulary, the descriptions of the little underground domiciles of the animals in the wintertime. It's all so cozy and in this winter storm, it's so appropriate to our situation. I love this book.

I am reading Kenneth Graham's original version, not the adapted one by Woodside.

A very fun children's story. No major 'the moral of the story is' in this delightful story, but one that lends itself easily to parents reading this to or with their children to interject life lessons along the way.

I'm glad I started with the Classic Starts version. It was nice to be introduced to the characters and see their friendship. I like that Toad changed for the better eventually and that his friends stood by him. I didn't love the story or find it very memorable but overall it was good.
