The narrator visits from apartment to apartment as each is planning a special contribution to the party because the whole apartment building is invited to the narrator's sister's wedding. The author demonstrates different culture's traditional food as they contribute to the wedding, such as Mexican, Russian, Chinese, and many more! As a literacy teacher, I could use this text in the classroom to teach students about different cultures's wedding delicacies. Some students may interact with the text by sharing their own experiences in helping with wedding food preparation or if they have ever tried the foods the book mentioned. The author and the illustrator did well in being very descriptive in both the story and the illustration. The text relates to my topic because it shows different tradition's cultural dishes that may be seen at wedding ceremonies.

Sallie's big sister is getting married and everyone is excited. The whole building is getting in on the celebration and cooking special dishes and treats from his or her own country. Sallie's sister, going dood-to-door to spread the news, carefully washes her hands at each place and helps prepare the dishes: biscotti, a wedding cake, challah, dolmades, honey-harmonizing-with-oil-buns, and more delicious treats. There is just one thing missing--but it's something that Sallie's sister can handle just on her own.

The book was pretty average, but I did like the descriptions of the different foods from around the world and the more lengthy explanations at the back. It's nice to see different wedding traditions throughout the world represented through this one wedding.

I love this book! I get choked up every time I read it! I cry every time I get to the end...my preschoolers could never figure out why. :)
