"As I struggle to unlock my gaze from the impertinent bridesmaid who doesn’t seem able to stop herself from giving me attitude, I contemplate the various ways in which I intend to teach the insolent little brat a lesson." Greyson
This wasn't supposed to happen. Every piece of my life has been planned out since the day I was born, calculated to the letter. I knew where I was headed. I knew what to do at every turn. I had power and wealth and privilege, and women dropping to their knees whenever I would care to look at them. And most of all, I had what I required most... Control. Until I met her.
She blazed into my life entirely uninvited, a storm of chaos, creating messes for me to clean up, daring me with her audacious eyes, her impertinent attitude, and that smart little mouth of hers. Her singular beauty knocked me off balance despite her refusal to show me the reverence that my name normally arouses. Now when I close my eyes, I am hounded by her face, by her voice, by her taste. And what's more, she has awakened in me a torturous need to protect her. A need that renders me weak, and one which my illustrious family little appreciates. The way she consumes me despite her unrelenting insubordination is most unwanted. I need to get back to what I had before--absolute control. And a life I was the master of. Free of the torment afflicting me.
That means I need to work her insolence out of my system bit by bit. To claw back every piece of control that I've lost while drowning in obstinate green eyes that just dare me to punish her. To do that, I must make her submit to me, to willingly fulfill every one of my unpalatable desires. Once she does that, I will be free of this affliction. I will be the Master again. Indigo
Greyson Everitt. A walking red flag. A man who doesn't hide his need to dominate. He says he can't fall in love, but he watches over me with a fervor I've never seen before, and the way he protects me stuns my senses, urging me to succumb to his will. Or almost. I've been hurt before, and I won't allow any man to take control again. Even one as coveted as him. The only problem is... when he touches me, I want only to melt, to let go, to finally trust again. His words are rough, but his touch is strangely tentative, even when he binds my hands behind my back. He wants a brand of submission he'll never get from me. I intend to resist him all the way. I just need to withstand this heat. I just need to not succumb to this HUNGER.
___________________________________________ Hunger is a standalone dark love story with a HEA. It is emotion-heavy and features a dominant male hero who needs control and a very feisty heroine who refuses to relinquish it. Dual POV. It features adult themes and is for mature readers only.
Monique Edenwood is a British-Canadian author based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Her love of the magical trees and forests that she grew up surrounded by helped to inspire her first novel, Enter The Black Oak, book 1 in the Black Oak series.
She loves helping people escape their daily lives for a short while with the help of some intrigue, suspense and some smoking hot fictional boyfriends!
When she isn’t writing or reading, she loves hiking and cycling around beautiful Vancouver. She's also an epic fantasy geek and lover of 80's and 90's music.
Monique absolutely loves hearing from readers of her novels so please feel free to contact her!
Can't wait for this to be released Monday! This author always does a great job of writing original characters. She also writes the sexiest MMCs on the planet, cough, cough Sebastian from her Black Oak series.
Update 1/2/2023, progress 25%:
So Indie is basically Jess 2.0 and Grey is Cam and Jack merged into one person. This story is not having the same bite as Black Oak so far, since Sebastian isn't involved. Monique's stories take a while to get anywhere so I am kind of hoping this gets more interesting. Bc the crazy s*x cult led by pretty much hot Lord Voldemort mixed with the Phantom of the Opera (Sebastian) was 1000x more interesting than this.
Update 1/8/2023, finished:
3 stars, I liked the the characters and I think the story has a lot of potential. If the second book in this duet meanders as much as this one did I'll most likely rate that one lower. I get that most of this book was set-up for Grey and Indie's relationship, but 700 pages of barely any plot was a lot for me. There are a a lot of open questions by the end of this book, so much so I doubt that Monique is going to stick to this being a duet. I wouldn't be surprised if she adds more books to this series like she did with Black Oak. So if you are a first time reader of Monique's work just be ready for there possibly being more than 2 books to this series. If she ends up liking the characters she may keep writing more books.
Another side-note here is if you are considering picking up her Black Oak series just know that it isn't completely finished even though it is mentioned in the authors note that it is. On her FB page she mentions that it's finished "for now". She's a mood writer, so if the mood strikes her that she wants to write more to that series she will. If she wants to write more of this series she will. If that is going to annoy you I would recommend you may not like her work.
Back to this book, my main issues were that there should have been a decision at some point by the author to have decided between the office-romance arc or the meeting at the wedding arc, they both did not need to be in this book. It just added pages, imo this led to them circling each other for too long. Also the over use of the word "trauma", I get Indie and Grey both have sh*t parents, but there are other ways of conveying it without having to spell it out. Indie talks like a 40 year old woman and not the self proclaimed 23 year old she is. Sometimes Grey's speech also comes off dated or robotic. There were a few Canadian-ism used like "province" of Maryland instead of "state" of Maryland. Monique has good ideas, but she really does need a beta reader to help with some of these issues. Her work is good, but could be great with some feedback.
I like the dark gothic atmosphere that Monique creates in her books, it always makes me want to keep reading. Her main characters always have good chemistry together. I could feel that Grey and Indie were really into each other both in and out of the sack. The side characters were really fleshed out, even better than Black Oak. I liked Indie's "Moms" and her friends. Her friend "Rami" was great, it's always nice to see female friends in romance books actually being supportive of their friends. The villains she writes are always the worst of the worst, so I'll be interested to see how they play into the story in the second book.
If you are looking for a longer character driven bdsm-esque romance you will enjoy this book.
OMG Monique has done it again! I love Indie and Greyson. As I’ve read an ARC of this book I won’t leave any spoilers, but I could not stop reading! It meanders along so you can get to know these characters and fall in love with them. It is not slow or repetitive, but making the reader want to keep turning the page to find out more about them and what will happen next. There are bits of humor as well which found me laughing out loud at some points! Monique has such a way with story telling and girl can write the spice as well! 😉 I applaud you Monique EdenWood….I can’t wait to read the rest of their story!

Indigo is AMAZING, I love everything about her, from her personality ,looks, strength, and vulnerabilities to where she takes No S*tttt, annnd pops off at the mouth having Zero filter lol. And Grayson… He’s a Veryy Wealthy, Hott AF, Moody, Overwhelming , Alphahole… WHO I am Not Sure about yet, Because of those Dark Secets Twists, and certain tastes that are questionably psychotic, or are they to Leave no stone unturned?!? Gahhh… I NEED BOOK 2 Noww! I’m Sooo swept up in this DARK LOVE STORY!!! Because I’ve Nottt Ever Read one with such in depth background annnd Yet, Im like, WAIT WTAF IS GOING ON?!?! I received this as a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I wanted to like this book, I truly did. My best friend is an indie writer and I know how difficult it can be and my goodness, more power to you guys for your time, effort, and struggle to be seen/read!
However, unfortunately, I couldn’t even finish it. (I did go and read the last couple of pages for some semblance of closure) but I struggled through this book for far too long. Like I said, I wanted to like it.
It had a fairly decent plot to it that I think with some editing help it could be turned into a pretty good book. It was just very difficult for me to push through a lot of things that were consistent road blocks for me as a reader (I.e. extreme run-on sentences that equaled an entire paragraph, saying the same thing almost verbatim multiple times). I truly feel like just simply having a good editor or even just a good friend that could’ve read through this to help change some things around here and there would’ve made it flow much better overall.
The basis of this book is a very sassy but emotionally damaged girl meets a man that seemingly has everything going for him but is equally as damaged. As I mentioned before I couldn’t make myself finish it (did make it about 80% of the way through it even though the book seemed like it continued to grow - adding pages, very weird) but there was a constant repetition of the same theme throughout that ultimately just most literally made me roll my eyes and give up.
I love a good strong, sassy female character and the brooding, too hot for reality guy that is just dark enough to be alluring is ALWAYS a yes for me….but I just couldn’t with this one. To reiterate, I think the potential is there but the need for concise character foundations and a more precise direction of the plot would do wonders for this work.
There is definitely spice in this book, it’s not SJM level or JLA level but it’s still fun. There is the enemies to lovers aspect and I hope there was a HEA found…and I hope that the author continues to write and hone in on her craft!
Thanks again for the opportunity to read and review.
I immediately fell in love with these characters. Greyson and Indigo are both dealing with trauma. Mysterious and evil outside forces are working very hard to keep them apart. It was suspenseful at times thinking at one point I might have it figured out, but then I realized ……Do I? Even through this, I found myself laughing out loud at their hilarious banter between each other, and then BAM your in the dark and it’s a darkness I didn’t want to get out of because when these 2 collide it’s next level spice… The Wolf and the Wildflower. I cannot wait for Surrender book 2 to release as these characters will be with me for a long time. I anticipate this series to be one of my favorites for this year!
I understand why this book is almost 800 pages. Absolutely anything and everything that can go through the character’s head is described. It’s BORING and unnecessary. You’re telling me this is one of TWO books? Did this even go to an editor?
Also, I just realized I don’t like m/f dark romance books with alternating POV chapters with the guy in the first book. It’s just very boring. Where is the thrill? The suspense??
Monique your books are very good but sometimes you go into detail way to much! One of the times you described a milk jug setting out and explained what a charter looks like several times. After the 3rd time it gets repetitive. The characters inter monologues are way to long, detailed, and repetitive. I love the story lines but I get bored easily and skip a bunch of parts. So I’m sure I’m missing something. I’ll continue to read your books but I bet if you would cut back on some of the descriptions and the monologues it would cut maybe 200 pages from the book! But over all great story line
Indigo and Greyson are two characters that you will either love or love to hate
From there very first interaction, you could tell that Greyson was affected by her, that he had never met anyone quite like her before, let alone come up against someone of Indigo’s character.
Indigo tests his patience and control like no other, she likes ruffling his feathers, and all he wants to do is claim her.
As there relationship develops, so does there trust, she is carefree, where he likes order and control, they couldn’t be more different, but he can’t seem to stay away from her, for she challenges him, brings out another side to him that he thought that he would never see or feel again.
They are both dealing with their own trauma, Indigo with her ex and her mother, Greyson with his father. They both use mechanisms to help them cope the only way they know how. And with there respective friends they know they can wether any storm.
Indigo is inexplicably drawn to Greyson. The way he makes her feel, how he incites her body with want and need. Greyson is inexplicably drawn to Indigo. Her light calling to his darkness, he has this feeling inside of him that only she can satiate. There souls call to each other, there need for one another consumes them, but in the end will it be enough.
Greyson is dominant, Indigo submissive. He is controlling as he is possessive, she is sassy as she is fiery. But there are people out there, who are determined to not see them together, to tear them apart, even when Greyson stands up to his father, and he claims her for his own, are they more determined to prove that whatever anyone else says doesn’t matter, for Greyson will go to every length to protect her, as Indigo fights her instincts, knowing that something isn’t right.
This book has it all dark romance, possessive dominant alpha male, a strong sassy female who gives as good as she gets, complex family and friend dynamics, madness, mayhem, revenge, vengeance, violence, stalking, blackmail, deception, adrenaline seeking suspense, jealousy, twists, turns, truths and betrayal.
This story is told from multiple POV, it will take you on a wild ride, having you turn page after page, this book had me from the beginning to the end. Reading this story, it enables the readers to really connect with the characters, and as the story unfolds the readers see the development and growth from the characters singularly and together. The author definitely knows how to write and I’ll be coming back for more.
And those s*x scenes, including those BDSM elements were steamy, yet sensual, dirty, hot, intense, physical, provocative, it had all the angry angst, hate, jealousy, pleasure and passion one would except when Greyson shows Indigo who he is, taking everything he gives, darkness and all. For Greyson takes what he wants without consequence, giving Indigo the pain and pleasure she deserves, his possessive and obsessive need for control and dominance, it was off the charts and had all of the feels.
Greyson Everitt is a wealthy man with deep trauma. He has spent his life controlling everything he is able to, never letting emotion seep through his cold and indifferent heart.
This is mostly because of something that happened in his childhood and how his father has treated him ever since. Greyson's parents run a PR firm notorious for helping criminals. They have arranged a marriage for Greyson that will benefit the company and make them one of the most wealthiest families in Washington.
He had a plan, he had control, he was content with his life until the day he met Indigo Nillson, a feiry little brat who needed to learn how to control her mouth and her attitude. But when Greyson finds out that Indie's past is just as traumatizing as his, and that she's still in danger of it, he starts to feel something else, starts to want something else, and that scares him.
My thoughts: Lots and lots of triggers like sexual abuse, stalking, controlling etc. The book is centered around a traumatized male who deals with his issues through control in the bedroom. There were alot of similarities between this book and Fifty Shades of Grey when it came to small details but it had its own plot which was very interesting. I felt like this book had so much potential but it felt like a first draft to me. There was alot l repetition in dialogue, using the words "well" or "look" or other similar terms when starting off sentences and it got a little annoying after a while. I also am very confused with the ending and I hope everything is explained in the sequel. The book has good bones and I really enjoyed the storyline and where it was heading.
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶🌶🌶 Genre: Dark Romance
Quotes from the book:
LOVERS, forget your love, And list to the love of these, She a window flower, And he a winter breeze. Robert Frost, Wind and Window Flower (1915)
To those with wild hearts and messy hair whose pain has made them beautifully untamable.
After reading the Black Oak series this book was a delightful surprise. Greyson is the brooding, troubled alpha Dom with deep secrets. Indigo is a closet submissive with an equaling troubled past and deep secrets.
Together they are combustible! Indigo’s banter and refusal to fully submit will have your sides hurting from laughter. Grayson’s insight into her reactions will warm your heart. He can tell from her eyes and movements when unknown to him trauma from her past rears it’s ugly head. He then stabilizes her thoughts and brings her back to the present and to him. His caring and patience and always putting Indigo first will make him your favorite book boyfriend.
They both have domineering parents. Indigo has walked away from her abusive mother despite her wealth and privilege she could offer. A mother who knows her second husband abused Indigo. She simply doesn’t care.
Grayson’s parents have an arranged marriage they are trying to force him into. They are equally as cold as Indigo’s.
Plus Indigo’s ex is now in prison for stalking and abuse. He is out to make Indigo pay and reclaim her for himself. He is indeed a monster and if he gets his hands on Indigo she will not survive.
We will find out in book 2. Surrender if Greyson can protect her from Micah, his Father, Her Mother and the Father of the woman they are trying to force him to marry.
Greyson and Indigo have already been to hell and back. One wears the scars on his body the other wears hers in her heart and psyche. You can’t help but pull for them to finally find peace and happiness together.
Thank you, Author and Katieandbreypa PR For Providing Me with An eARC Of This Book.
“Grey’s touch was like the water of some pool, continually filled by a waterfall originating in the clouds. It was cleansing. It was powerful. It was transcendent.”
This book was phenomenal. One of my favorite books this year and I’m so happy that I got an eARC of It. I loved the writing style, the characters, the storytelling..etc it was all amazing.
I loved Grey he was such a complex character. He has a dark side that only selected few people to know about. I loved how utterly obsessed he was with Indigo and how slowly he started to accept his feelings for her and what she means to him. I hate his family so much that I wanted to punch each of them in the face.
I loved Indigo. She’s one of my favorite strong FMC. I loved how she kept pushing Greyson at every chance she got and how she slowly started to trust him after what happened to her. And I loved her relationship with her friends and family it was very wholesome to see her and Grayson interact with them.
The side characters were amazing. I loved them so much and I want more of them. Except for Indigo and Grayson’s families, I wanted to dowse them in gasoline and set them on fire this is how much I hate them.
If you love angsty and spicy romance then this book is definitely for you.
“Something about her taps into a part of me I believed I’d hammered over with steel plates a long time ago…”

I can't say enough how much I loved this book! The banter the writing style everything about it was phenomenal!! It's a very lengthy read which I was worried about but it was worth every minute I spent nose deep in the story!! Talk about a dynamic duo.....Indie and Greyson are just that. I loved their banter and the back and forth between them. The one thing I loved about the length of this story was how we got to know so much about each character and nothing felt rushed or dumped. The pace of the story suits the length in my opinion.
Indie is a spitfire with pink/red hair. She's a go getter and finds her confidence from past trauma and toxic relationships. The fact that we meet her after trauma and with very strong confidence right off the bat of who she is and who she refuses to be is very different from what I am use to reading where we following the growth journey. Not to say she still doesn't show growth cause she does but it's a different kind of growth as she helps Greyson with his own. Both of them travel a path of demons from the past resurfacing to haunt them. I can't wait to read the next book!!
Monique Edenwood knocks it out of the park again! This book starts slowly and brings with it plenty of light banter and humour. As the plot progresses we find that many things are not as they seem for either Indie or Greyson, the darkness is growing, shadows from the past closing in on the future. Do these two ever have a chance and can Indie afford to open her heart to a man clearly haunted by his past? I really enjoyed this first part of Hunger, the characters and plot engaging and interesting, the smoking hot scenes between our two MCs enough to ignite my Kindle (and other things besides). I cannot wait to find out where this talented author will take us when book 2 is released later in the year.
Monique Edenwood, the Queen of dark and spice has once again written a book that leaves you craving for more. Hunger is book 1 in a duet. I have laughed out loud, cried and cursed throughout this book. Two characters, both with traumatic pasts, try and navigate a relationship that leaves you sweating and breathless. Their scenes are hotter than hell and not even a cold shower will distinguish that fire flowing through your body. And yes, thats how much you will feel each and every emotion and touch between these two. As we follow their journey throughout the book, we get to know and fall in love with Greyson and Indigo. Their past traumas have made them who they are and hopefully when they stop hiding their pasts they'll be able to move on. But for now their bodies are doing the healing and the talking. As their past rears it's ugly head, you cannot help but want to dive right in and save them. But Grey and Indie together are no push overs and I have a feeling that Book2 will lead us even further into their darkness. And I cannot freaking wait for April!!!😈😈
Who doesn’t want to read a book with two main characters who have come from such darkness they are perfect for each other, even when they don’t even know it. I really love possessive and protective men in the books I read and Greyson didn’t disappoint. He has claimed my heart and soul, he might of even ruined me for all others. There’s just something about him that stands out to me.
Greyson and Indigo have already been through so much but we haven’t even got to the surface of these complicated characters story. I can feel the words not being said, the secrets that everyone I’m sure would rather be hidden. I can’t wait to see what Monique does with their story in the next book! Happy reading!
I read 40% of this and has to give up. I was so bored with the lack of progress and skimmed so much. Gutted as the story looked good from the synopsis. l. Skipped to the end as and was further baffled.
this book was interesting? i was intrigued by the synopsis at first, as it sounded like a great dark romance. however, i quickly found myself reading a Fifty Shades of Grey wannabe; with lots of long, boring chapter
the plot of this book sounded interesting: a girl has an bad first encounter with a guy; only to find out he is the rich neighbor of the house she's housesitting? it created the perfect storyline, something that could be really interesting. however, i found myself incredibly bored very fast. i can tell the author is an incredibly writer, however there was way too much word vomit at times. numerous times i found where i was just reading pages of paragraphs. not that that isn't what reading is, but i expect some sort of dialogue, as well. if i wanted to read paragraphs endlessly, i'd open a textbook. not only that, but when the characters did conversate with one another, they were either fucking or fighting -- no in between. very rarely did i find the female lead, Indigo, have a normal conversation with someone. she was ALWAYS talking with Greyson, and most times they were either arguing or fucking. i'm not even going to call it sex, it was straight fucking (we'll get into that in a minute). not only was there a lack of speaking between characters, but i also felt like there was way too much character vomit at once. i'm all for characters having back stories and pasts, i believe that's what makes a good character. however, within the first five minutes of reading, i could tell you Indigo's entire life story. nothing was left for mystery or to figure out... which was disappointing. whereas with Greyson, we learn nothing. literally nothing. it would've been nice to maybe learn the guy's favorite color, or something?
as for the characters, blah boring. can i just watch the movie? starting off with Indigo, she was way too hippy for me. i got pick me girl vibes from her, "oh i'm so different from all the other girls", like okay, we get it. not much i enjoyed about her, from her entire life story within five minutes to the pick me girl vibes i immediately got. however, one thing i could appreciate was her fierce attitude and the way she stood up for herself. i did like that she wasn't afraid to speak her mind and confront someone on something. she wasn't a complete doormat, and for that, i respect her. as for Christian, i mean Greyson. i mean, cmon at least be original. the male main character in fifty shades name was Christian Grey; so this author names her male main character "Greyson". like okkkay, total not trying to copy. Greyson is your typical male character: stone cold, heartless, and disrespectful towards everyone. don't get me wrong, i normally love me some good grumpy men, but this one didn't do it for me. i wasn't a fan of his demeanor, and i found that he thought he was better than everyone else. it also irks me how he was so quick to claim Indigo, like buddy calm down. just because you slept with her once doesn't mean she's your girlfriend -- although you don't do relationships. as for the other characters, couldn't tell you one thing about them. they do not stand out to me in any way, shape, or form... so irrelevant i don't even remember their names. the author did not do a good job at trying to make them important roles; or at least ones worth noting
now, i'd like to dedicate an entire paragraph to talk about the relationship dynamic between Indigo and Greyson because it was, weird. if you haven't read this book, the dynamic may be a little bit of a spoiler. just your fair warning. now, don't get me wrong when i say that i love a good dom / sub dynamic. it's one of my favorites and could actually be written so beautifully. however this one was, bad. just bad. Greyson was pretty bad with treating his sub right, and he didn't take care of her the way one was suppose too. i also found it odd how quickly they jumped into that dynamic. like, within one night of sleeping together, they discovered that and stuck with it. most people ease into it at least. the whole thing felt very unrealistic to me, and i would have liked to see them work their way up to it. or at least, not do it after sleeping with one another one night
overall, this book was a disappointment. i think it has the potential to be really good, and i can see that the author could be really good. but i think this book needs to be shorter (less word vomit), more realistic with dynamics of relationships and relationships as a whole, and needs some fine tuning
I just finished this masterpiece and am still searching for words, so let me start with the synopsis. We have Indie, a free-spirited hippie feminist who teaches yoga and Kirtan classes for a living, regularly volunteers at animal rescues and loves to dye her hair whatever colour she fancies... like pink. And we have Grey, a presumptuous alphahole who happens to have been brought up by a wealthy, prestigious family that cleans up the messes of other, even wealthier families for a living. And who happens to be sex on legs. Take these two character who can barely be any more different, cage them into the same company for three days and BAM... Wait, no bam... Not yet.😅 We haven’t earned the right to see our two new favourite characters hit it off just yet... Either that, or the certainly diabolic author wants her readers thoroughly HUNGRY so that, when the final relief comes, it hits in all the right places. And it hits hard... Honestly, this book consists of so much heat that I don't know where to start praising... Every conversation between Indie and Grey is like a blazing hot foreplay that made me want to scream at the top of my lungs 'just f*ck her already!' Honestly, I felt about as deprived as the character by the time they finally sealed the deal. And talking about which... to answer Indie's question if it was possible to orgasm without physical contact... pretty sure it is... 🥵🥵🥵 In fact, I developed about twenty new kinks and am quite sure I've been ruined for anything 'real-life' from this day forward. Because Greyson Everitt is just something else. He's a wolf. Dark, powerful and dangerous with a swift elegance to his filthy insinuating mouth that'll leave you hunger for more... The characters the author painted are so full of life. You can see them, hear them, feel them, even taste them as if they were standing right in front of you. Without much description necessary, they evolve right in front of your eyes, their physical appearance just unfolding only by getting to know their personality. It's almost magical. The whole story is so full of tension, of suspense and thrill, laced with heat, seduction and erotic moments, but also with so much humour I found myself laughing out loud several times. Indie's inner monologue must have been one of my favourite parts of the story, together with her wit that never failed to turn an erotic moment into a blazing heatwave rolling over you! But aside from all the fantastic writing, character development and heat, I also have to applaud the author for her sensitive portrayal of the psychological aspects behind everything. I don't want to give out any spoilers, but it needs to be mentioned! This book is empowering, entertaining, funny, sexy as sin and an absolute must-read! I'd give it a hundred stars if I could!
First off, wow! If you love big books, here you go! Prepare to visit a world where you can fully immerse yourself in the story and characters, their trials and tribulations, without fear of it ending too soon. ( Can you tell I hate short reads?!?! LOL )
Monique Edenwood has written another fascinating story full of intrigue, mystery, angst, and emotion. It's full of delightful banter between the hero and heroine and even had me laughing at times. I had no idea what to expect going in, and still, in a way, I'm unsure of what's to come. I have soooo many questions after that ending! I'm both frightened and excited about the finale!
I was enthralled early on by Greyson; his mystique and Alpha male behavior kept me wanting more. His internal struggles, as well as his protective nature and need to look after Indie, were endearing. His dirty mouth didn't hurt either ;) I hope in book 2, he starts doing more of those delicious things he threatens! I so enjoyed what he did in book one!
Indigo took me a bit longer to warm up to. She's all sass, with feminist ideals, a love for healthy eating, and seriously in denial. She's not the type of heroine I usually read. But once I got past the brave facade she projects and started seeing a bit more vulnerability in her, I fell in love with her character. She's fallible and has flaws which I love. She still frustrates me a bit, but isn't that what a great book is about- witnessing the characters' growth from beginning to end?
The first 50% of the story moves leisurely as you get to know all the characters. The last 40%-50%, though, is where I truly fell in love with these two. I think mainly because it dug deeper into their characters, more of their history was revealed, and the story progressed faster.
The only thing that bothered me just a bit was the negative opinion of men by the female characters. It wasn't so much that I was turned off the story, but enough that I noticed it happening often.
Overall, I enjoyed this new world Mrs. Edenwood introduced us to, and I cannot wait to read the finale!
I will never tire of reading Monique Edenwoods unique and addictive style of writing such delicious dark romance. When I pick up a book I want to be fully immersed into a fantasy where I can lose myself and explore ideas that should, rightfully, only be found in books. It’s the one place where it should be safe to explore as a private experience. Monique edenwood has the ability to provide that forbidden thrill, that addictive tension that prevents you from putting a book down and that level of intrigue, where something you hadn’t yet imagined to be thrilling is suddenly the exact outcome you’re urging the story for. The Black Oak series proved I was this type of reader and now the Hunger duet completely cures that craving for more and fills the void that the loss of Jack, Cam and Seb left behind. Whether you’ve read ETBO yet or not (I’m sure you will be after reading this) everything you want from Monique can be found in here: emotion, mystery, detailed characters, developed background stories, action rich plot and, of course, delicious and unputdownable spice! The sexual tension is perfectly delivered and leaves you gagging for more! I’m already hankering for the second part of the duet and apparently anything else Monique has in store!! Give me more Greyson and Indie!🥵🔥 5* Highly recommend
First off I want to thank @katieandbreypa & @monique_edenwood_author for my free ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
This was a great and terribly dark hot spicy romance ouff. The sex is fire. The angst is unbearable. The wait is excruciating but once you get a taste of Greyson and Indigo together ouch ! This is a possessive alpha male and strong sassy female type of romance.
It did take a while to get to the steam between them, as the author does know how to build up the tension. The beginning is definitely a slow burn, but its totally worth it and has a purpose. This is not your regular spicy romance, this one is very developed, character driven, we get all the back story of both characters and immerse ourselves in their day to day lives which I loved. Getting to know them, together and apart was fantastic. Getting to know their traumas and why they are the way they are was phenomenal.
A lot happens in this book and it will keep you flipping those pages to get to the bottom of it and see how it ends.. but wait there's a second book on the way, so of course this one ends in a cliffhanger. This honestly had all the feels and all the heat. You will either root for them or hate them entirely. You don't want to miss out on this one.
If you want a dark, spicy, sexy, alpha male, sassy female romance with hot as hell sex scenes grab this one NOW !
I have been excited for this book from the moment Monique announced it was in the works. She is super talented and the Black Oak series cemented her as one of my favorite authors. Well, she did it again, my mind is blown. But before I get to why, I have to tell you about Indigo and Greyson.
Greyson is the one every girl is trying to get - rich, powerful, hot as hell, controlling, unapologetic in his assholery, and emotionally unavailable. Indigo is this down-to-earth, headstrong, feisty “hippy” type that fights his dominating, arrogant ways tooth-and-nail, in spite of this heated attraction between them. These two people come together and try to explore these day-one intense feelings while each struggling with their own issues, not to mention, Greyson is getting pressure from his family to uphold certain obligations and to keep up a specific image. Needless to say, Indigo does not meet their approval.
Ok, so my mind has been reeling trying to piece together little details I noticed throughout the story. It feels like I’m about to be taken back into another world of suspense, darkness, passion, and intrigue…by force! Again! Yes, I’m getting Black Oak vibes and I suspect no one is really who or what they seem.
Oh wow this book is long! Probably 200 pages too long. I started off really enjoying it but found it challenging to keep going in the end. Both main characters made me angry. They both have massive issues and bad parts but those issues and pasta are never really revealed which made the whole book just frustrating as it prevented me getting to know the characters and understanding why they were doing what they were doing. Indigo was abused in various ways by various people but she never says exactly what’s happened so it is confusing as to why she allowed Greyson to talk to her and treat her the way he does. Greyson has scars and bad attitude to women but never comes out with what’s happened either so the whole thing just gets muddy and nothing actually happens in the whole book! The sex scenes were ok, but got repetitive and the ending was a bit of a cliff hanger but not enough that I’ll be racing for the next book. What a shame as the writing itself was really nice, I just didn’t connect with either character and there wasn’t enough going on!
This book hit all the checkmarks for me and I loved it. First, we have the rich, dominant businessman, Greyson. He’s a man that demands respect, exudes power, and needs control. Underneath his hard exterior however, is a man with scars that run deep. It will take a special someone to figure him out and it won’t be easy. Then we have Indigo. Like her name, she is unique. A pink haired, take no shit, mouthy, rebellious, bratty young lady. She too, hides a past she wants to escape from and learn to overcome. That’s where it gets intense. Greyson, being a seasoned dominant in the bedroom has the skills to help Indigo overcome her sorrows, while Indigo has the attitude to bring a naturally controlled man to his knees. As for the story… it’s a well-written whirlwind of emotion, twists & turns, perfectly timed humour, and unforgettable steam in the bedroom. I’ll be impatiently waiting for the second part to this duet.
The Wolf and the Wildflower, Two damaged souls that find each other but other influences don't want them to stay that way ,there are malicious forces at work to drive them apart and the story has a very interesting ending , Having read The Black Oak series and loved every word of it I so looked forward to this new book from Monique Edenwood and found myself pulled in to this fabulous and dark storyline Greyson and Indigo have to overcome some serious challenges and I can't wait till the next book is out to find what happens with this pair, Once again Monique has written a fantastic story and if this very talented author was to write a grocery list I would read it and know it would be epic such is her style of writing Once you start reading trust me you won't want to stop
The cover is beautiful and after reading the synopsis I just had to find out what lied within the pages.
I’m a big fan of the slow burn and this definitely fulfilled that for me, however I can see some readers being dissuaded by the pacing and length. This mood reader wanted Indigo and Greyson together sooner rather than later but appreciated the build up.
I enjoyed Indigo as the strong (FMC) and her friends. I appreciated the dynamic between the main and side characters. Greyson (MMC) was so raw and honestly I hadn’t read a book that contained a character with his type of energy before. The spice was hot and the tension was there for sure. I see fans of dark romance with a HEA loving this for sure.
I’m curious to see how the author ties up the Hunger Duet, with Book 2 Surrender!
Wow... first off, I love a big long one, and this delivers in spades. Plenty of girthy words to devour (see what I did there?).
Anyway, let's talk characters, Greyson... ah Grey... yes, you can have me... please... I love his character, the darkness, the turmoil, the family problems. It all just adds to up to a deliciously conflicted guy, whose head was turned by Indigo, our lovely Indie. She's a delight to read, she's smart, sassy, she cares about the environment (which I love), and she's what Grey needs to shake him out of his world, and show him that there's more to life than his job and his oppressive family.
I literally sank into this book and loved every minute. I can't wait for book two, especially with the looming threat on the horizon, and I know it's going to be as mind blowing as book one!!
This book is so good. It starts out with a slow burn between the MMC and the MFC and there is so much sizzle and chemistry going on. There is also a mystery and some people are desperate to keep them apart. His family is absolutely against them . She is being terrorized by her ex boyfriend. But none of this keeps them from becoming so involved with each other and so sexy by the end and then a cliffhanger which has me wanting more. I love Monique Edenwoods style of writing as I have read her Black Oak series which I highly recommend. I'm looking forward to the continuing story line of Hunger. I give this book 5 stars and I received an arc for an honest review.
Indigo and Greyson have such chemistry! The wolf and the wildflower. I'm not one for dom/sub or bdsm elements in books, but Hunger covered consent very well. Grey is our alpha male OTT J/P main man. Indie has a rough back story, but she owns her uniqueness and quirks. Together, they work well, and I'm ready for book 2 to see how they progress with their story. I enjoyed the characters' dynamics and secondary characters contributed to the story. Conversations flowed well. The backstories were well-developed. I look forward to Surrender to see if Greyson finally ditches his toxic family and convinces Indie to move in with him.
Oy I feel bad to leave such a negative review but this book was terrible - repetitive boring inner monologue going on for pages and pages, odd use of words such as using word “sing” vs “responds” or “says” for 55 times! The sex scenes are extremely awkward and not sexy. The heroine is written very similarly to the heroine from the author’s other series and for some reason the author has a strange obsession with health food. I had to force myself to finish the book. On the positive side, I think the author has potential but needs a good editor to cut a lot of boring and unnecessary prose out and would benefit from beta readers.
