No Pepper, Please, the second book in the Amanda Danvers Mysteries, is every bit as wonderful as the first. Once again, the playful, clever title immediately drew me in, and the story behind it did not disappoint. Having not long helped discover who murdered the body she discovered at her carwash in No Dumping Allowed, Amanda finds herself pulled into another mystery, this time with much more personal stakes. When a man collapses at her stepmother’s café under suspicious circumstances, Amanda can’t help but investigate. What at first appears to be a heart attack slowly unravels into something far more curious, and Amanda’s determination to find the truth keeps the story moving at a lively pace. At the same time, the book weaves in Amanda’s personal life, particularly her growing relationship with Ethan. Watching her struggle with the complexities of love and trust adds another layer to her character, and as pieces of her past are revealed, you can see how deeply that history shapes her choices. Amanda remains the heart of the series: practical, kind, witty, and refreshingly honest. What I especially loved in this instalment is how her vulnerabilities become more visible, making her all the more relatable.

The writing here shines in a way that perfectly complements Amanda’s personality. It’s clear, engaging, and deceptively simple, yet with much hidden depth. The author has a gift for balancing humour with sincerity, keeping the mystery light hearted without losing emotional resonance. I also have to mention Nina, a new character who absolutely leapt off the page. She’s funny, vibrant, and adds a delightful spark to the narrative. The ending delivers both excitement and laughter, a clever and satisfying combination. It’s rare to find a mystery series that blends warmth, wit, and intrigue so seamlessly, but this one does it beautifully. I sincerely hope L.M. Ford continues with the Amanda Danvers series, and I can’t recommend it highly enough!

This is the second time I have dipped my toe into the cosy mystery genre and it won't be my last, I think it's fair to say I'm addicted.

No Pepper, Please is the second novel in the Amanda Danvers series but as each book is stand-alone can be read as a novel in and of itself and refers back to book one just enough so you know what's happening, but not too much that it takes the focus away from this story. In other words absolute perfect synchronicity.

No Pepper, Please is set in and around Amanda's step-mother's cafe. The chef, Betty, is divorcing her husband who still attends daily for his breakfast. He hates pepper so Betty liberally applies each meal with enough to make an elephant sneeze.
When his mean is also laced with arsenic, the suspicion naturally lies with Betty.

Amanda plays amateur sleuth to uncover the source of the poison, but will her findings lead to Betty's imprisonment or is it someone else entirely?

To find out you will have to read the book!
