Who would say no to a free trip to the Caribbean? Me, if it was offered by the wrong person. When my aunt interrupts my cycle of self-sabotage, she sends me away to a resort that she claims eases her own mind and worries. Naïve, I take the offer. What is only told in the small print is that this resort is different. Different as in a nudist paradise. I’m freaking out. How will I get through this week from hell?
Denise
School is out and it is summer vacation. On a teacher’s salary, my options to escape are limited. Not this break. This break I will carry my fine ass to Jamaica and run around the beautiful island au naturel. These plans come to a halt when a handsome sulking stranger asks for my help. He’s too fine to deny but do I really want to get involved? What’s in it for me?
I don’t come across black romantic comedies often and I’m so glad that I can across “Bare With Me”! It’s the most fun I’ve had reading in a while! The storyline was refreshing and it made me feel like I was on vacation along with them.
The story centers around Xavier and Denise. Xavier is a surgeon in the making. He’s preparing to take a medical school exam, The STEP. How amazing right?! A black man chasing big dreams! But his sleep is riddled with nightmares about clowns and he’s wound tight and a bit obsessive about studying. His makeup mogul of an aunt gets tired of his mess and forces him take a much needed vacation to Montego Bay. He’s completely in the dark about the resort and activities that she has arranged for him. He meets the beautiful and free spirited, Denise on the plane. They just so happen to be seated together and hit things off pretty well. Denise is a kindergarten teacher vacationing with a plan. Sis is ready to let loose and enjoy herself. She ready to risk it all and considers joining the mile high club with Xavier.
From the time these two land in the airport in Montego Bay I was cracking up. They realize that they are staying on the same resort and things really turn up. Baaaaaby when Xavier found out he was staying at a nude resort, he flipped out! His stick far up in the booty ass wasn’t with none of it. Denise was everything! Sis was loving her best life and encouraging Xavier to not only relax but literally let his ball loose. 🤣🤣 Their time together was no short of hilarious. To really shake things up, Xavier’s ex and the super sex and super famous man she left him for are also on the resort. Guess who needs to pose as his fake girlfriend?….poor Denise!
Y’all this book was a blast! I laughed from beginning to end. The writing was well done. There were a few grammatical errors but they did not take away from the story. I loved all the characters! I loved the setting! I really felt like I was on this resort with them!
The downfall and the main criticism I had was the lack of spice! The setting was a literal nude resort and I wish things were sexier. I wanted the freaks to really come out 🤣 These two didn’t share a kiss until the book was over halfway over. And sex…the book was almost over. 🤣
But wait! Even though the book was very low on spice, I loved every minute of it!! I recommend you guys check this book out!
Amidst a landmine of typos and errors there’s an enjoyable, actually fun romantic comedy. The ending was a bit clunky but the charming characters save the story entirely.
This is worth a read if you have a few hours while relaxing on the beach.
I like to start saying this romantic comedy was hilarious, and funny as hell from beginning to end. The story consist of Xavier and Denise who both find a lot out about themselves by way of nudist resort. The way Xavier's family(Aunt Victoria) are the one's that think boundaries are optional in this book and how I felt that in my soul. Xavier nightmare dreams of clowns with a boob on their shoulder threatening to kill him in his dreams damn near took me out how funny his Aunt Victoria was talking about it while he was in a panic. The plot had so many lessons the characters learned from the experience of letting go and just living in the moment. The key take was learning to treat your mental health with care because we do tend to forget that we have to take care of ourselves. I love how Denise was about manifesting her happiness and going after what she wanted putting her needs above all others. The side characters like the older woman with her husband ashes in tow was a hoot to read and the ex plus her new boyfriend was just pure comedic genius. I think everyone needs a vacation at the Tego Heat resort and I volunteer immediately. The way Denise was enthralled by Xavier good looks, but also thinking he was someone's sugarbaby was so funny. There were so much comedy that you'll laugh even after you finish the book. This is definitely a must read if you wanted the pure comedy and the happily ever after.
I had so much fun reading this! When I tell you I laughed my tail off? This is just a well-done romantic comedy. I loved Denise; I thought she was funny and relatable. She had a bold, colorful personality compared to Xavier, who was slightly more reserved. This will be right up your alley if you love the fake dating trope. Xavier is a grump, but I also loved his character and development. The development of their relationship was also a *chef's kiss*. 10/10 highly recommend it!
First off romance is not my go to genre, but this rom-com is HILARIOUS!!! 😂 I literally laughed out loud reading this book. This would make a good movie that I would enjoy watching. I will continue to say good things about this book just as I’ve been doing since I started reading it.
Denise and Xavier was fun and cute together. She bought out the shyness and help Xavier more than he can imagine. This was my first time reading this author work and I enjoyed it.
This book was funny, because I can imagine it being a movie and can see the characters and how they would act. It was fun to read a book about a naked retreat. This book was cool, kinda found the romance lustier than anything, but it was fun.
I laughed my way through this entire book! It was a super funny and adorable story! If you’re looking a cute, funny, light-hearted read, look no further!
