KELLY THOMPSON has a degree in Sequential Art from The Savannah College of Art & Design. Her love of comics and superheroes have compelled her since she first discovered them as a teenager. Currently living in Portland, Oregon with her boyfriend and the two brilliant cats that run their lives, you can find Kelly all over the Internet where she is generally well liked, except where she's detested.

Kelly has published two novels - THE GIRL WHO WOULD BE KING (2012) and STORYKILLER (2014) and the graphic novel HEART IN A BOX from Dark Horse Comics (2015). She's currently writing ROGUE & GAMBIT, HAWKEYE, and PHASMA for Marvel Comics and GHOSTBUSTERS for IDW. Other major credits include: A-Force, Captain Marvel & The Carol Corps, Jem and The Holograms, Misfits, Power Rangers Pink, and the creator-owned mini-series Mega Princess.

Kelly's ambitions are eclipsed only by her desire to exist entirely in pajamas. Fortunately pajamas and writers go hand in hand (most of the time). Please buy all her stuff so that she can buy (and wear) more pajamas.

Fairly solid art and a story that really reads as a collection of separate tales, which is somewhat rare for this era of superhero comics. Some of the tales work better than others, and there is a bit too much 'slightly altered versions of our heroes' all in one book, but it is overall fun.

Finished this famous run of Captain Marvel in time for the new movie. It's one of those old school style superhero comics where instead of focusing on one big arc over 50 issues, it's a lot of mini stories that have elements that continue, they all FEEL Big though. It's a lot of fun superhero comics. I'm just not endeared to the Carol character, I think it's more interactions with the wider world that are really interesting here.

(4.5) definitely enjoyed the first half more than the second half. this is the first omnibus i’ve ever read (reading this taught me the word omnibus) and there are so many cliff hangers. that is probably really normal when reading a comic in this way but i do wish some of this stuff was expanded on a little bit more.

After reading both the Captain Marvel: Ms. Marvel—A Hero Is Born Omnibus and the Captain Marvel by Kelly Sue DeConnick Omnibus, I was curious where Captain Marvel by Kelly Thompson Omnibus Volume 1 would land. As it turns out, it may be the best starting point yet. Thompson's take is more energetic and honest than the Bronze Age run and less preachy or polarizing than DeConnick’s—striking a confident balance that makes for a smoother, more enjoyable read.

Collecting Captain Marvel (2019) #1–26 and Captain Marvel: The End, this omnibus plays like a series of punchy arcs rather than one long story, and that actually works in its favor. The first half is the strongest, with Carol freshly returned from space and immediately thrust into a dystopian Roosevelt Island showdown. From there, we get a fun body-swap adventure with Doctor Strange, a rising new rival in Star, and a powerful final chapter in The End that ties Carol’s journey together with surprising warmth.

Where the Bronze Age stories often felt dated and DeConnick’s run leaned heavy into reinvention, Thompson’s version lets Carol be a full-fledged superhero—flawed, funny, and fierce—without losing her edge. It’s a modern run that respects the character’s history without being shackled by it.

Carmen Carnero leads the art with crisp lines, fluid action, and detailed renderings that give the book a classic polish. Annapaolo Martello and Tamra Bonvillain also step in, and their work leans into a Westernized manga-meets-Nickelodeon vibe—not quite my style, but clearly tailored to younger readers who grew up on that aesthetic.

Some threads (like alternate versions of heroes and apocalyptic futures) feel familiar, but strong character work—especially Carol’s bonds with Hazmat, Spider-Woman, and Rhodey—keeps it grounded.

Thompson’s run might just be the most balanced and enjoyable Captain Marvel series to date. It’s fun without being frivolous, modern without being cynical, and bold without losing sight of who Carol is. A smart, accessible jumping-on point for new readers—and the most binge-worthy of the three Captain Marvel omnibi.

I enjoyed this, but the first half I definitely enjoyed more. I was not a fan of the dumb She-Hulk. When did that happen? And Captain Marvel as the Accuser; maybe a page or even a paragraph to explain how that came about (outside of the contents of this omnibus) would have been helpful.

A great series. Thompson is one of my favorite comic writers out there, and her superb consistency doesn't stop each title from feeling different from the rest.
