I love LEGO so I was really excited to win a copy of this book from the Goodreads First Reads program.

I enjoyed how this book talked about multiple different ways in which LEGO bricks can be used outside of conventional building. Each chapter covered a unique program or effort that used LEGO bricks for a completely out of the box concept. I enjoyed learning more about how different people benefit from these unique applications of LEGO bricks and how these ideas came about.

My one source of feedback is that I wish the chapters were a bit longer, or had pictures more pictures of how the bricks were used. I sometimes felt that one or two extra pages or pictures really would have helped give more of a backstory that would have my increased my overall enjoyment of the book.

This was a heartwarming informational read about all the good LEGO is doing for the world! As an avid LEGO fan, after reading this book I was more grateful and in awe of everything a few plastic bricks can do. I thought the photos really added to the synopsis’s of each featured LEGO project and helped bring the projects to life. The twelve features were all so engaging, I would have loved if there were even more. It would be cool if there ends up being a second edition of this book, I very much enjoyed it. Highly recommend it for any LEGO enthusiast!

LEGO Heroes covers the stories of twelve innovators who used LEGO to bring change to the world around them. Each chapter covers a different inspirational story. The book shows the unique ways in which LEGO has been used to solve a variety of everyday problems. It also gives examples of ways that LEGO has been used to improve the lives of some people with disabilities.

I had previously heard of a couple of the stories but a majority of the book was new subject matter for me. The content of LEGO Heroes is suitable for all ages. It would make a great addition to any school library or homeschool curriculum. Some of the sections are a little lengthier than others but the book is still packed with interesting information.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to NetGalley and Chronicle Books!

This book had a lot of potential and my 3rd grader who loves LEGO was excited to read it at bedtime. We found it to be incredibly dry and long-winded and repetitive, however, and he lost interest after only a few of the featured innovators.

The stories of the inventions and innovations would have been really cool, especially if simplified for a younger audience to spark their imaginations. It would have been easy to do. I'm thinking it would be best for the upper elementary to early high school student.

The pictures included were colorful and interesting and added to the impression that it would be a great book for elementary school students.

Unfortunately, the long-winded, wordy, repetitive, circular way it was written sucked all the joy and wonder out of the inventions. It feels like this can't decide whether it is an inspiring book for LEGO lovers or a technical manual for LEGO marketing teams, with the emphasis on LEGO programs and, oddly, the incredibly repetitive passages about how all LEGO bricks are made to be compatible with all other LEGO bricks. Like. Once would have been enough. There was no need to repeat that in every story. Even the quotes chosen to illustrate the stories were odd, as they didn't really add to the text and in many cases made it even more circular and confusing.

The comprehension level of the text hovered around upper-high-school to college-age and even for that age was circular, repetitive, and confusing.

Ultimately we didn't enjoy it at all and it was quite the disappointment.

*Thanks to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for providing an early copy for review.

This book is my 4th book of this year (2023). I came across it and thought to myself, “This could truly be an amazing book to read”, as I grew up “playing” with Legos AND I have a Masters degree in Biomedical Engineering. Reading stories of how the world is impacted by creative ways of using Legos is definitely an enticing theme for a book. This book did deliver on that.

However, I am a bit unsure of the audience for this book. Children can read it, but the language in the book and the topics covered are more applicable to adults. In other words, the language is kind of too sophisticated for a child to understand. I was thinking that maybe there could be a companion book that is geared more towards children so that children and their parents can discuss the stories.

Overall, I was very interested in the stories and was inspired to think of other ideas for how to use Legos. I definitely appreciated this book and each of the stories within its pages. I give this book 4 out of 5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley and Chronicle Books (publisher) for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I am a massive fan of LEGO, the LEGO story and how play in integral to both. We all know that LEGO can be used in many different ways and as creatively as your imagination allows, but did you know that LEGO can help make a prosthetic arm or rebuild a reef?

LEGO Heroes shares twelve stories of ingenious and innovative use of LEGO to solve problems and bring positive change to people’s lives.

With large, colour photographs and full colour quote pages, this book is visually pleasing, and modern. The stories are all tied to ideas that improve the world around us and is the perfect starting point for introducing students to innovation, design thinking and problem solving. I’m looking forward to using the book and stories to inspire my students to take their ideas to a new level and start thinking about how they can use LEGO to solve the problems they see around them.

Each chapter is devoted to a different story, including LEGO prosthetics, LEGO wheelchair ramps, LEGO art, Braille Bricks, a turtle LEGO wheelchair and making LEGO more accessible.

The publishers provided an advanced readers copy of this book for reviewing purposes. All opinions are my own.

Open up your child's mind while increasing their building skills. Legos are one "toy" that bridges so many ages and generations that you'd be hard pressed to find a home or gathering place that does not contain a huge bin of these bricks and people. This book contains so many patterns on "next step" building projects that it will take your family many weekends to complete them all. This book is a wonderful gift for any child, of any age, for any event. It is alos a great way for parents to connect with their children while building. Build some memories while building that project.

A fun collection of stories about varying applications of Lego to real world problems. I was particularly impressed by the use of Lego science and engineering fields, including the development of prosthetics, culturing of sea corral, and repair of broken turtle shells. While the stories themselves were fascinating and generally well-written, they provided only a big picture and human-centric perspective that was somewhat lacking in detail and specifics. Overall, great for a general reading audience, including youth aged readers.

Thank you chronicle books, Graham Hancock, and Netgalley for an ARC of LEGO Heroes by LEGO Builders changing our world- one brick at a time.

I was a huge Lego fan as a kid and now my kids are too! My son and I read this together and it was so enlightening and informative. We had no idea LEGO was used for so many other things besides play. We really enjoyed this book and recommend it to all Lego lovers out there.

This was an interesting read but at the same time a pointless read. It was a bit dry in places which did take a bit away from the intriguing stories of the inventive ways Lego is being used the world over to help in the world.

Luckily, with it being a short book it was a quick read so that negatives don't prevent someone form picking this up and enjoying it.

The pictures are the best part.

Lego Heroes by Lego Builders Changing Our World - One Brick at a Time is a book about building things and changing communities. One of my favorite things they made was ramps for wheel chairs.

Scrapes a four. I like Lego and was interested by the book but it does read a bit like an advertisement for Lego. If you’re not particularly into Lego that could put you off.

LEGO Heroes

I thought that this would have some ideas to build with my nephews, but it’s not that kind of book at all. Instead, it tells the stories of some real life heroes and how they used LEGOs to improve their lives or the lives of others.

Without going into too much detail, the Heroes in this book help everyone from a turtle with mobility issues to seniors in nursing homes to a young man with a prosthetic. These projects are amazing and surprising. Some are extremely functional, and others are about the artistic outcome. But most of them bring awareness to the fact that LEGOs help with finger dexterity and keeping the mind going at any age. I was very impressed with what these folks accomplished.

I’d recommend this book to any older teen or adult that likes human interest stories. There is a glimpse of some very amazing and innovative people throughout this book, but I don’t believe most kids under 15 would be interested in what is said in the book. The stories do show that humanity is alive and well!!

I was given a copy of this book for an honest review by Netgalley.
