I hope that, by the end of this workbook, you think so too. As an author and a professional editor, I have developed this guide to self-editing for fiction writers with both roles in mind. The process and strategies outlined in these pages have been forged through self-editing and honed during professional editing. You will find a blend of the rigid structure required in the profession and the flexibility authors must apply to their personal self-editing process.

This second edition includes expanded sections on prewriting, as a strong prewriting process can make editing far easier. This edition also includes information about publishing options and tips for publishing safely.

An East Tennessee native, she is passionate about the representation of Appalachian culture in literature. Victoria is represented by Sandy Lu of Book Wyrm Literary Agency, and her short fiction has appeared in more than forty publications.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Campbell University and is an active member of the Editorial Freelancers Association, the Knoxville Writers’ Guild, and the Tennessee Mountain Writers. Victoria spends much of her time backpacking in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. She lives with a lovable, hyper husky named Rocket.
