For the first time in King’s League history the developers have made concessions to their rules and brought Dirk back from the dead. After such a close call, he’s more focused than ever on bringing his A-game to the tournament.
Things are going well. Until a player with no armor nearly succeeds in taking everything from him. This one moment thrusts Dirk into a dark world of uncertainty about not only himself but also whether he’s on the right path altogether.
When Graydon throws another wrench into the already murky situation with a new vision, Dirk is once again spurred into action. In order to find the sword, he and his friends will have to travel to parts unknown first. They learn there is one truth that can be depended on:
Hints are never what they seem when given by a Trickster God.
All roads lead to the tournament but the trials are just beginning and not just for Dirk. Friends and enemies alike are put to the test in the final chapter of King’s League. The only question that remains to be answered is who will win it all?
This is not a stand-alone book! Be sure to read the previous 5 books before reading this grand finale. There is too much important, exciting, and interesting backstory you’ll miss if you don’t. Now Dirk will search for Graydon’s sword, Gathering Storm, which is fiercely guarded somewhere. The other champions are also searching for the final weapon to complete their armor. The tournament is imminent, and Dirk realizes he must greatly improve his PvP skills if he has any hope of winning. Fortunately for him, his team is glad to help him out by pitting themselves against him in a practice setting. Unfortunately, Billingsley and Alevestor are undermining his reputation, threatening Ebon Shire, his livelihood, and the safety of his friends. He finally meets Spyce IRL, who, along with Brian/Nogg, Stoneburner, Lord_Dread, and Rose are determined to help him succeed. Lots of adventure, intrigue, excitement, friends cooperating, and intense action ensue until the final Tournament of Champions takes place and the champion is declared.
While the storyline and characters were excellent, everything after book 3 feels heavily rushed. Those first few felt in depth with a distinct focus on storytelling for each part of the story where the last three felt like 2-3 books each crammed into one. Like when we all heard the hobbit was going to be 3 movies instead of one - just the reverse. I would have loved more of what actually happened in sky raiders or even interstellar (space marine like the movie Aliens) .
As with all gaming series the final battle is worthy and of course the old adage about justice is well used in these books. The ending did go a bit quicker than I thought and perhaps a bigger battle word count would of been nice but I like how it went. Now fingers crossed that we can get a follow up series.
I really enjoyed this LitRPG tale with minimal pages of stats ( I call this padding). There was even a dusting of romance, a plethora of bad guys and kool weapons. I think reading about the other worlds in Kings League would be interesting. Kudos to th author for a well written series. Thank you !
As with all other books in this series more trouble comes to Dirk and friends. The championship is close at hand. Enemies are attacking in real life and in the RPG. Dirk can only think of one thing that will solve most problems, he most win. Good read.
Exciting. Easy and entertaining read. The characters have some depth, and the story is good. Worth the read and a lot better than most of the junk out there.
